“CAESER ROMERO!”

Shit. Why is he shouting my name again? I’m definitely cooked this time.

I need to hide.

I rushed around my office, desperately looking for somewhere, anywhere, to disappear. My eyes darted from corner to corner, my heartbeat loud in my ears. Just as I was about to squeeze myself behind a cabinet—

“THUD.”

The sound echoed through the room like a warning.

Shit. He’s here.

“Hiding won’t help, Caeser,” he said sharply, slamming a stack of files onto my desk. “Come out.”

How the hell did he know I was hiding here?

“Hehe… I’m here,” I laughed nervously, stepping out from my hiding spot. “What’s up…?”

“What’s up?” he repeated, his voice thick with sarcasm, while I stood there, still awkwardly smiling.

“You see… I don’t know anything,” I said quickly. “So maybe you could tell me why you’re shouting again?”

He always shouts at me like my mother. Half the time, I don’t even know what I did.

“Caeser, my baby, you seriously don’t know what the hell you did?”

Wait.

Is it what I’m thinking?

But how did he find out? Did someone tell him?

“No, I don’t know. I promise,” I said, even though I definitely knew what I did.

“See, I’m giving you three seconds to confess and tell me what you did. Otherwise, I have my own ways of making you talk,” he said, his voice turning dangerously sharp.

That’s it.

I can’t hold it in anymore. I have to tell him. Otherwise… I don’t even want to imagine what he’ll do.

“I’m sorry. I just didn’t like their presentation, that’s why I rejected it,” I said, putting on my most innocent, puppy-like expression. I knew it wouldn’t work… but still.

“See, Caeser, it’s okay that you rejected it,” he said, his tone finally calming down. Thank God. “But you literally said their project was useless and that they’re not going to make it anywhere with that. Is that how you’re going to build business deals and relationships?”

“I know… but that was just,” I muttered. “It was just so bad.”

Honestly, it wasn’t even my fault. It really was terrible.

“I know how straightforward you are,” he said, sighing, “but you can’t just say anything you want. That’s not how business works. And don’t forget—you want to prove to your father how capable you are.”

“I’m so sorry, Henry. I won’t do it again, I promise,” I said quietly.

He was right.

I had to prove to my father what I could do… without his support.

“Is there anything I can do to make it up? PPlease mama,” I added, making a cute face that I knew would melt his heart. I mean, he is basically my second mom.

“Yes, there is,” he said. “I’ll tell you. But first, stop calling me mom. I am not your mom.”

“Okayyy, mom,” I said, grinning as I teased him.

“Heyyyy!” he shouted.

And just like that, we both burst out laughing.
