Somehow, It Was You
After the Party
The music from the party still rang faintly in Liliana’s ears as she stumbled onto the quiet roadside.
Or maybe it was just her.
She crouched down, hugging her knees, blinking slowly at her phone screen. The brightness hurt her eyes. Names blurred together until her finger lazily tapped one at random.
Liliana smiled instantly.
Liliana
“Jacob…” she said, dragging his name like it was something soft.
Jacob
“…Why are you calling me?” he asked slowly.
Liliana smiled immediately, leaning against the wall for support as her head tipped slightly.
Liliana
“Because I touched your number,” she said simply, like it was the most obvious reason in the world.
There was a pause on the other end.
Jacob
“…Are you drunk?!” he asked suddenly, his tone tightening.
Liliana
She blinked. “No,” she said immediately.
Jacob
“Liliana,” he said sharply.
She scrunched her nose slightly, shifting her weight as she slid down the wall just a bit.
Liliana
“Yeah… a little tipsy,” she admitted, pouting like she’d been unfairly accused.
Jacob
“Where are you?” he asked.
Liliana
Liliana looked around slowly, her gaze unfocused as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. “Outside,” she answered.
Jacob
“Outside where?” he pressed, his patience thinning.
Liliana turned her head, looking around lazily as if the place would introduce itself.
Liliana
“There’s a tree… and a street light,” she said, watching it for a second before her attention drifted. “And a café… I think it’s closed.”
Liliana
“And there’s a golden retriever,” she added with a small smile. “He’s cute… I think he likes me.”
She continued, completely ignoring the tension in his voice.
Jacob went quiet for a second.
Jacob
“…Send your location.”
Liliana
started to tapping around her phone with unnecessary concentration. “…Okay.”
Liliana
“Sent,” she said proudly, like she’d accomplished something huge.
On the other end, there was movement—the faint sound of keys, a door, something shifting.
Jacob
“I’m coming,” he said.
Jacob
“Stay where you are,” he said, more serious now. “Don’t move. Don’t talk to anyone. Don’t do anything stupid.”
Liliana
“I won’t,” she said obediently, nodding even though he couldn’t see it.
She slowly slid down until she was crouched on the ground. She opened her cookie packet and gently threw pieces from a safe distance, watching the golden retriever with a soft smile.
Dramatic liliana
Liliana was crouching on the side of the road, mumbling softly while feeding pieces of cookies to a golden retriever from a safe distance. The street light above flickered gently, and the quiet night felt strangely calm around her.
A car suddenly stopped right in front of her.
Her face lit up instantly.
Jacob got out, and the moment he saw her crouched there, he pressed his palm to his face with a tired sigh.
Before he could even say anything, Liliana ran toward him, arms opening for a hug—but he stopped her immediately by pressing his hand gently against her forehead.
Jacob
“Do you even realize who you’re trying to hug?” he asked, rolling his eyes. “You better behave, Liliana.” (Damn.... she's so cute).
Jacob
He sighed again, crossing his arms as he looked at her properly. “You’re still drunk,” he commented.
Before he could react, Liliana leaned onto him, clinging to his arm.
Jacob
“Damn it, Liliana. Stop clinging onto me.”
Jacob
He scoffed. “Because we’re enemies.”
Liliana
“Why?!” she repeated, holding onto him tighter.
Jacob
“Because you’re annoying as hell and you always get on my nerves,” he said, though his tone wasn’t fully firm anymore.
Liliana
She pouted. “It’s because you are mean too… humos.”
Jacob
“And whose fault is that? You’re the one who always provokes me.”
Liliana
“I’m just teasing you,” she giggled. “You look cute when you’re annoyed… puffed cheeks and all red.”
Jacob
“…Cute?” he repeated, quickly looking away.
Jacob
“Shut up. I do not. You’re just drunk and not thinking straight,” he muttered, but his voice wasn’t fully steady.
Still… he didn’t push her away.
Liliana
“That’s why I tease you,” Liliana laughed softly. “You get all cute annoyed.”
Jacob
He groaned, rubbing his face. “You’re absolutely infuriating, you know that?”
But his arm stayed around her waist to steady her.
Jacob
“You’re a pain in my ass,” he muttered. “I should leave you here… but I can’t. Damn it.”
Liliana poked his cheeks.
Liliana
"Jacob…” she giggled.
Jacob
“Damn it—stop that,” he said, swatting her hand away, ears slightly red.
Liliana
“You’re scolding me…” she pouted dramatically.
Jacob
“You’re acting like a child,” he sighed—but still wiped her fake tears without hesitation.
Jacob
“Stop being so melodramatic,” he muttered, his hand lingering slightly longer than necessary.
Liliana
Stopped crying.“I want to go to my room,” she said, wobbling slightly.
Jacob
“Of course you do,” he sighed. “You’re impossible when you’re drunk.”
Still, he supported her as she leaned more into him.
Jacob
“Fine. I’ll take you. Just behave.”
Halfway, she stumbled and fell.
Jacob
“Hey—damn it,” he cursed, quickly catching her before she hit the ground.
Without hesitation, he lifted her into his arms.
Jacob
“You’re seriously hopeless when you’re drunk,” he muttered, carrying her effortlessly.
Fairy God Mother
He finally arrived at Liliana’s room, carefully pushing the door open with his foot. He gently placed her on the bed, making sure she was steady before letting go.
Jacob
“Okay, Liliana. You’re here. Now stay put and don’t move,” he said firmly, eyes narrowing slightly.
He turned like he was about to leave—but paused.
After a moment, he exhaled and sat down on the floor beside the bed
Liliana Still nodding, obediently, watching him.
Jacob
“Good girl,” he muttered without thinking.
Liliana’s face lit up instantly.
Liliana
“Lily is good girl,” she said happily, sitting up a little straighter.
He clicked his tongue and leaned back slightly.
Jacob
Yeah, yeah. Good girl when you’re not being a total pain in my ass,” he said teasingly.
Liliana
Pouts sadly.... suddenly light up.
Then Liliana leaned closer.
“Jacob… do you want to know a secret?”
Jacob
He raised a brow. “A secret?”
Liliana
Liliana nodded and leaned in near his ear.
“Do you know who gave you your favourite strawberries that day?”
Liliana
“You know—the day the teacher scolded you because of me,” Liliana continued. “I brought strawberries for you and kept them on your table… but you gave most of them to Eddy instead of eating them.”
Her brows furrowed slightly as she remembered.
Liliana
“So I got angry and stole your favourite strawberry milkshake and gave it to Eddy.”
Liliana
“Then I felt bad again.”
Liliana
“So I bought a whole box of strawberry milkshakes and kept them on your table again.and you take all of them.”
She gave a small giggle at the end, like it was a silly cycle of revenge and guilt.
He went quiet for a moment.
He couldn’t believe it. She was the one who kept bringing him his favourite fruits and milkshakes… especially after she had annoyed him.
Without him even realizing.
Jacob
“So that was you, huh?” he said slowly, a smirk forming only after a brief pause. “Continuously supplying my favourite fruits and drinks after you annoyed me.”
He shook his head slightly, still trying to process how many times it had happened without him noticing.
Jacob
“You’re such a brat, you know that?” he added, lightly. “Stealing my favourite milkshake just to give it to Eddy?”
He clicked his tongue and shook his head in feigned annoyance.
Liliana
“Hey, for that only, I bought you whole box strawberry milkshakes again.” She pouts. “Plus that day on trip, tteokbokki was fully finished. You came late to eat and looked sad seeing there was no tteokbokki. Chef was busy, so I cooked tteokbokki again and gave it to teacher so you can eat it. I’m your secret fairy god mother.”
He went quiet for a moment.
Liliana cooked for him… because he didn’t get tteokbokki.
She noticed he liked it. She noticed he was a little disappointed that day. And instead of just leaving it, she made it again.
His mind drifted back to that day—how he had been slightly upset when it was gone… and then suddenly, a fresh batch appeared later.
His expression softened without him realizing
Jacob
He couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle.
“A secret fairy god mother, huh?” he said, voice lighter now. “Well, aren’t you full of surprises.”
His eyes stayed on her for a moment longer than usual.
Jacob
“You secretly cooking tteokbokki for me just so I could eat it…” he added, shaking his head slightly, “…that’s actually kind of sweet." a pause, Then his usual tone came back, softer at the edges.
“…In a weird and annoying way.”
