I Married the CEO I Was Sent to Ruin

Chapter 1: A Deal Signed in Silence

The room was too cold.

Not because of the air conditioning—but because of the man sitting behind the desk.

Elara Voss noticed it the moment she stepped into Adrian Valtier’s office. The space was vast and precise, all sharp lines and glass walls overlooking the glittering city below. Everything about it spoke of control.

And at the center of it—

Him.

Adrian didn’t acknowledge her immediately. He finished signing the document in front of him with slow, deliberate movements, as if nothing in the world could rush him. Only then did he set the pen down and lift his gaze.

Sharp. Assessing. Unreadable.

“You’re late.”

His voice was calm, but it carried authority.

Elara stepped forward without hesitation, placing her file neatly on the desk.

“I’m exactly on time.”

Silence stretched between them.

Most people would have looked away under that stare.

She didn’t.

Adrian leaned back slightly, studying her like something that had caught his unexpected interest.

“Sit.”

“I’d prefer to stand,” she replied evenly. “This won’t take long.”

A faint flicker of amusement crossed his face.

“Then let’s not waste time,” he said. “I need a wife.”

The words settled heavily in the room.

Elara didn’t laugh. She didn’t question the absurdity of it. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, as if evaluating a business proposal.

“On paper?”

“Of course,” Adrian replied. “A contract marriage. One year.”

Her gaze sharpened.

“And why me?”

Without answering, he slid a file across the desk.

She opened it.

Her life—summarized. Education, legal victories, professional history. Even details that should have been buried deeper than this.

Elara closed the file slowly.

“You’ve done your research.”

“I don’t make uninformed decisions,” he said. “You’re efficient, intelligent, and discreet. Most importantly—you don’t get emotionally involved.”

That made her pause for just a second.

“And what do I get?” she asked.

“Protection. Influence. And a name no one dares to touch.”

She met his eyes, steady and unyielding.

“And what do you get?”

This time, Adrian leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping.

“Control.”

The word lingered.

A quiet understanding passed between them—this was not just a contract. It was a calculated move.

“You don’t want a wife,” Elara said softly. “You want a shield.”

“And you,” Adrian replied, watching her closely, “aren’t just a lawyer.”

For a brief moment, something sharp and unspoken filled the space between them.

A warning.

A challenge.

Then Elara smiled.

Calm. Controlled. Dangerous.

“Looks like we’ll get along, Mr. Valtier.”

He slid the contract toward her.

“No emotional involvement. No interference in my personal affairs. No questions.”

Elara glanced at the pages, then back at him.

“You’re asking the wrong woman not to ask questions.”

A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

“And yet… you’re exactly the one I need.”

Their eyes locked.

Neither of them looked away.

Because what Adrian Valtier didn’t know—

Was that Elara Voss hadn’t walked into his office by coincidence.

She had been sent.

Carefully chosen to get close to him, to uncover every secret he was hiding.

And if necessary—

To destroy him.

But what Elara didn’t know…

Was that Adrian Valtier was far more dangerous than the mission she had accepted.

And this contract—

Was not the beginning of a marriage.

It was the beginning of a war.

Chapter 2: A Marriage Without Warmth

The wedding was flawless.

And completely empty.

Crystal chandeliers glittered above a hall filled with powerful guests—investors, politicians, and elites who whispered behind practiced smiles. Cameras flashed. Champagne flowed. Everything was perfect.

Except the bride and groom.

Elara Voss stood beside Adrian Valtier, dressed in elegance that matched the world she had just stepped into. Her expression remained calm, unreadable.

Beside her, Adrian looked every bit the untouchable CEO—cold, composed, and entirely in control.

To everyone watching, they were the perfect couple.

To each other…

They were strangers bound by a contract.

“Smile,” Adrian murmured under his breath as another round of cameras turned toward them.

Elara’s lips curved slightly.

“Convincing enough?” she asked without looking at him.

“Barely.”

Her smile deepened just enough to satisfy the audience.

The ceremony ended with applause.

Vows were spoken, but they meant nothing.

Rings were exchanged, but they held no promise.

And just like that—

They were married.

That night, the penthouse was silent.

The city lights shimmered through the glass walls, casting soft reflections across the polished floors. It should have felt luxurious.

Instead, it felt distant.

Controlled.

Adrian stepped inside first, loosening his tie slightly.

“Your room is on the left,” he said without turning. “Mine is on the right.”

Elara glanced around, taking in every detail—the layout, the exits, the security system hidden behind clean design.

“No shared spaces?” she asked.

“I don’t share,” he replied simply.

She nodded, as if that was expected.

Of course it was.

As she walked toward her room, her movements were calm—but her mind was working.

Every corner. Every camera. Every blind spot.

This wasn’t just a home.

It was a fortress.

And someone, somewhere, wanted to break into it.

Later that night—

Elara stepped out onto the balcony, the cool air brushing against her skin. The city stretched endlessly below, alive and unaware.

“You’re observant.”

His voice came from behind her.

She didn’t turn.

“I like to understand my surroundings.”

Adrian stepped beside her, his presence quiet but heavy.

“And what have you understood so far?”

Elara finally glanced at him.

“That this marriage isn’t about appearances alone.”

A pause.

“And?”

She held his gaze.

“You don’t trust anyone.”

Something unreadable flickered in his eyes.

“Trust is a liability,” he said.

“And yet,” she replied softly, “you just married a stranger.”

For the first time, Adrian’s expression shifted slightly.

Not anger.

Not amusement.

Something deeper.

“Be careful, Elara,” he said, his voice low. “Some questions lead to answers you won’t like.”

She didn’t look away.

“I don’t ask questions I’m afraid of.”

Silence settled between them again.

But this time—

It wasn’t empty.

Because beneath the contract, beneath the distance…

Something had already begun to change.

Neither of them trusted the other.

Neither of them intended to.

And yet—

For the first time—

They were no longer just playing roles.

They were watching each other.

Carefully.

Chapter 3: A House Without Warmth

Morning came without warmth.

The penthouse was quiet—too quiet for a place meant for two people.

Elara stood in the kitchen, her movements calm and precise as she prepared coffee. She hadn’t slept much. Not because of discomfort—

But because she had spent most of the night mapping the house in her mind.

Entrances. Blind spots. Security patterns.

This wasn’t just a home.

It was a controlled environment.

Behind her, she heard footsteps.

Steady. Unhurried.

Adrian.

He entered without a word, already dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, as if he belonged more to the outside world than this space.

His gaze flickered briefly to the coffee in her hand.

“You cook?” he asked.

Elara slid a cup toward him.

“I function.”

He picked it up, studying her over the rim.

“Most people in your position would try harder.”

“To impress you?” she asked.

A pause.

Then—

“Yes.”

Elara leaned lightly against the counter.

“That sounds like a waste of effort.”

Something about that answer lingered.

Adrian didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he took a sip of the coffee.

Then—

“It’s not bad.”

“High praise,” she said dryly.

For a moment, silence settled again.

But it wasn’t the same as before.

It felt… aware.

---

Later that day—

Elara walked through the living area slowly, her eyes scanning everything without appearing to. A reflection in the glass caught her attention.

A small camera.

Hidden well.

But not well enough.

Her expression didn’t change.

Interesting.

---

“You’re looking too closely.”

His voice came from behind her again.

Elara turned slightly.

Adrian stood a few steps away, watching her—not casually this time.

Carefully.

“I like details,” she said.

“And I don’t like being studied,” he replied.

Their eyes met.

Tension flickered.

“Then you chose the wrong wife,” she said softly.

For a brief second—

Something almost like a smile touched his lips.

Almost.

---

That evening—

Rain fell against the glass walls, soft but constant.

Elara stood near the window, arms folded, watching the city blur beneath the storm.

“You’re quiet,” Adrian said, stepping beside her.

“I talk when it matters.”

“And does it matter now?”

She glanced at him.

“That depends.”

“On what?”

“Whether you’re listening,” she said.

That caught him off guard—just slightly.

He turned toward her fully now.

“I always listen.”

Elara held his gaze.

“No,” she said quietly. “You observe. There’s a difference.”

Silence.

Heavy. Sharp.

Then—

“Why did you really agree to this marriage?” he asked suddenly.

Not business.

Not strategy.

Something else.

Elara didn’t answer immediately.

Because the truth was dangerous.

Instead, she said—

“Because I needed something.”

His eyes narrowed.

“What?”

She met his gaze, calm as ever.

“Access.”

The word settled between them.

And this time—

Adrian didn’t look away.

Neither did she.

Because something had shifted.

Not trust.

Not yet.

But something undeniable.

A tension that wasn’t just suspicion anymore.

And as the rain continued to fall—

Neither of them realized…

They had already begun stepping into something far more dangerous than the contract they signed.
