The Things I Never Told You

Introduction

It started on an ordinary day that didn’t feel like it would mean anything.

The enrollment hall was crowded—voices mixing, papers crumpling, chairs scraping against the floor. Everyone looked like they were either in a hurry or already tired of the future they were trying to enter.

Kira stood in line alone.

Her folder was pressed tightly against her chest, like it could protect her from the noise around her. Nursing was her choice—medical field, long nights, endless studying. It was everything she wanted… and everything she was slightly afraid of.

She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, quietly watching people pass by in groups.

Most of them weren’t alone.

Most of them already belonged somewhere.

“Section B-12 next!” the staff called out.

Kira stepped forward, heart calm but focused.

That was when she noticed him.

He wasn’t loud—but he wasn’t invisible either.

Codi stood a few meters away, laughing with his friends like the world didn’t feel heavy on him yet. He had that kind of presence that didn’t try to be noticed… but still was.

Confident. Relaxed. Slightly careless.

One of his friends shoved a form into his chest. “Hurry up, playboy, you’re slowing us down.”

Codi just smirked. “Relax. I’m going to be a doctor, not a mess like you.”

His friends laughed.

Kira didn’t mean to look again—but she did.

And that was when it happened.

Codi turned slightly, scanning the crowd while talking, and for a brief second—his eyes landed on hers.

Not a dramatic moment.

Not a spark.

Just a glance.

But it held for half a second longer than it should have.

Kira looked away first.

Not because she felt anything—

but because it felt strange being seen like that by someone she didn’t know.

“Next!” the staff called again.

She stepped forward, adjusting her grip on her papers.

Behind her, she heard footsteps moving closer in the line.

“Same section, huh?” a voice said casually.

Kira turned slightly.

It was him.

Codi.

He was holding his enrollment papers loosely, like nothing about this moment was serious to him.

She blinked. “I think so.”

He nodded like it didn’t matter either way. “Great. At least I know one person already.”

Kira raised a brow slightly. “You don’t even know me.

“That’s why I said one person,” he replied, a small grin on his face.

She almost laughed, but didn’t.

Instead, she just looked forward again. “We’re not supposed to know anyone yet.”

“Rules are boring,” he said.

There was a pause.

Then Kira said, very simply, “You’re loud.”

Codi blinked like he didn’t expect that.

Then he laughed. “And you’re honest. I like that.”

Kira didn’t respond.

She didn’t know why, but she felt the need to step slightly forward in the line—just enough to create space.

Still, somehow, he stayed nearby.

Not following.

Not leaving.

Just… there.

When their section was finally confirmed, they ended up standing side by side for a moment longer than necessary.

“Codi,” he said suddenly.

Kira looked at him.

“That’s my name,” he added, like it was obvious.

“I didn’t ask,” she replied.

He smiled again—this time softer. “You will eventually.”

Kira shook her head slightly, turning away. “No, I won’t.”

But as she walked forward into the next part of enrollment, she could still hear him talking behind her, laughing with his friends again like nothing had happened.

And strangely…

It didn’t feel annoying.

Just… familiar in a way she didn’t understand yet.

Like someone she would keep seeing again, whether she wanted to or not.
