"THE PRICE OF HATING YOU" the Ingles

Chapter 1: No is not an answer

Money has a particular smell.

At that party, it smelled like power... and it belonged to me.

I entered the hall without hurry, feeling the stares piercing into my back. Some were of admiration, others of envy. None of them mattered to me.

Power is not about being loved.

It is about no one daring to interrupt your step.

I had built my empire on the ruins of those who dared to underestimate me, and the suit I was wearing was not just expensive fabric... it was a statement.

I wasn't looking for friends.

I was looking for control.

—That woman is the devil dressed in haute couture —someone whispered to my right.

—I've heard she rejects every contract —another voice murmured.

I didn't react.

They weren't worth my time.

I stayed in the darkest corner of the hall, a glass of whisky in my hand. It tasted like excess... and poorly invested money. Around me, the vultures of high society waited for an opportunity to approach.

I didn't give it to them.

I wasn't looking for partners.

I was looking for distractions.

And then, the doors opened.

It wasn't the sound that made me turn my head... it was the silence that followed.

She crossed the threshold as if the world belonged to her.

Sienna Valli.

I had heard of her. A predator with the face of an angel. The heiress of a burning empire, holding it together with cold blood and decisions few would dare to make.

But the reports didn't mention the way she walked.

Every step of hers brushed against arrogance. She ignored the whispers around her as if they didn't exist.

As if they didn't matter.

—That's her, right? —my assistant murmured—. The one who rejected your offer three times.

—She didn't reject it —I replied without taking my eyes off her back, where her black dress revealed the pale skin of her shoulders—. She was just raising her price.

I watched her move through the crowd. She didn't smile warmly; she handed out courtesy like sentences.

She was beautiful, yes.

But her beauty was not an ornament.

It was a weapon.

And that darkness in her gaze...

only those who have had to bury their own enemies have it.

I smiled slightly.

She interested me.

No... she fascinated me.

I set the glass aside and began to walk toward her. The crowd parted without me having to say a single word.

As it should be.

She stopped in front of the window, watching the city lights as if she were deciding which one to turn off first.

I positioned myself behind her.

Her perfume reached me: jasmine... and something more dangerous.

—They say women like you have no price, Sienna —I said, letting my voice fall calmly.

Her shoulders tensed slightly.

Not fear.

Preparation.

—They say men like you don't know how to take a "no" for an answer, Mr. Valli —she replied without turning.

Her voice was soft... but firm.

Interesting.

—"No" is just a suggestion —I answered— for someone who has the means to change the answer.

Then she turned.

Our eyes collided.

And for the first time in a long time... I felt something.

There was no fear in her.

Only hatred.

Pure. Alive. Defiant.

And that made it even better.

In that instant, I knew.

I didn't want her company.

I didn't want her shares.

I wanted her.

—Your empire is sinking —I said, stepping close enough to invade her space—. The debt you inherited is going to drag you down before the night is over.

Her expression didn't change, but her breathing did.

—But I can erase it all.

Her fingers tightened around the glass.

—What do you want? —she asked—. My companies... or my soul?

I smiled faintly.

—Your soul is already stained, just like mine.

I paused.

—I want something simpler.

I looked at her directly.

— Six months as Mrs. Valli. You give me what I need... and when it's over, I give you back your freedom. And your empire.

The silence between us grew heavier.

—be with you? —she whispered with contempt—. I'd rather be buried alive.

I leaned slightly toward her, enough so only she could hear me.

—Then start choosing your grave.

I straightened calmly.

—You have until midnight.

I took a step back, without taking my eyes off her.

—Tomorrow you can wake up as my wife...

or with nothing.

I turned and began to walk away.

--if you know where the exit is, you won't want to make a spectacle

I pointed at my staff.

I didn't need to look back to know her eyes were still on me.

I knew she would accept.

Because people like her don't run from hell.

They rule it.

And I was ready to build one by her side.

Chapter 2: The Countdown

The clock read eleven twelve.

Sienna hadn't moved.

She stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, her posture flawless, watching the city she had once sworn to dominate... now threatening to consume her whole. From this height, the lights looked small. Fragile. No longer symbols of power.

Warnings.

—Miss Smith —her assistant's voice trembled slightly—. It's confirmed. If we don't cover the debt before dawn, all accounts will be frozen.

Sienna didn't respond.

Her reflection stared back at her from the glass—composed on the outside... fracturing beneath the surface.

—And that's not all —he continued, more tense now—. Two of your main investors pulled out ten minutes ago. Others are considering doing the same.

Silence settled heavily in the room.

Sienna closed her eyes.

There it was.

The real blow.

This wasn't just debt.

It was the beginning of a collapse that couldn't be stopped.

—Who bought them? —she asked at last.

Her assistant hesitated for only a second.

—Valli Holdings.

A quiet, humorless laugh slipped from her lips. Not surprise.

Confirmation.

—Of course...

Elias hadn't just cornered her.

He had orchestrated every move.

Waited for the exact moment to strike.

Sienna slowly clenched her fingers, her nails pressing into her skin. The faint sting grounded her, reminded her she still had control... even if only over herself.

She hated losing.

But she hated feeling powerless even more.

—How much time do we really have?

—Hours —he replied—. Maybe less. Every minute makes it worse.

That was all she needed.

Sienna set the glass down.

The sound was sharp. Final.

—Prepare the contract.

—Miss... we could still try to negotiate, find another alternative—

—No.

She turned her head slightly.

Her eyes were cold now. Resolved.

—Do it.

She wasn't going to run.

She never had.

If she was going to fall...

she would do it on her own terms.

Even if that meant stepping directly into Elias's trap.

Elias stood by his desk when the door opened.

He didn't look up immediately.

He didn't need to.

He knew she would come.

They always do, he thought.

—Took you long enough.

Sienna walked in without hesitation.

—Don't get used to it —she said—. This isn't surrender.

Elias lifted his gaze.

A faint smile curved his lips.

—Disappointing.

Sienna stopped.

—Excuse me?

He stepped closer, closing the distance with controlled ease.

—I expected more resistance.

—I'm not here to entertain you.

—No —he replied calmly—. You're here because you don't have a choice.

The air tightened.

His words lingered between them, sharp and undeniable.

Sienna placed the document on the desk.

—I want clear terms. You stay out of my business, you don't control my decisions outside this agreement, and this ends in six months.

Elias didn't look at the document right away.

That irritated her.

—You think you're negotiating from a position of strength —he said at last.

—I don't think it —she replied—. I know it.

Something flickered in his eyes.

Interest.

Elias picked up the document and reviewed it with deliberate slowness.

—You've lost investors —he said without looking up—. Your accounts are about to be frozen. And in a few hours... your name won't mean anything.

He lifted his gaze.

—Tell me, Sienna... what do you really think you're negotiating?

The blow landed clean.

But she didn't step back.

She wouldn't.

—My time —she said—. And my name.

A pause.

—And you need both.

Elias studied her in silence.

There was truth in that.

He moved closer, reducing the space between them until the tension became almost tangible.

—I need you —he admitted—. But you need me more.

Sienna's pulse quickened, though her expression remained unchanged.

Elias placed a pen on the desk.

Between them.

Like a sentence waiting to be carried out.

—Six months —he said—. You keep your empire. I get what I want.

He leaned in slightly.

—And when it's over... you disappear from my life.

Sienna held his gaze.

—That sounds perfect.

They were both lying.

And they both knew it.

The clock struck eleven forty-eight.

The sound was louder now.

Sharper.

More urgent.

Sienna reached out.

Her hand stopped just before touching the pen.

Her mind screamed no.

Her pride demanded resistance.

But reality... left her no choice.

If she didn't sign, she would lose everything.

If she did... she would lose herself.

—This isn't a victory —she murmured.

Elias leaned close enough that only she could hear him.

—No —he whispered—. It's the beginning.

Their fingers brushed against the pen.

And for a moment...

everything went silent.

The world seemed to pause between that decision and everything that would follow.

Time stopped mattering.

Only that moment existed.

That choice.

And Sienna understood something with brutal clarity:

she wasn't choosing between winning or losing...

she was choosing how she was going to fall.

And that difference...

changed everything.

Chapter 3: The Signature

The clock struck midnight.

The sound was quiet.

Final.

Sienna held the pen between her fingers, still for a moment. She wasn't trembling... but she was aware of what it meant.

She wasn't losing.

She was yielding... temporarily.

Elias didn't speak.

He didn't need to.

His silence was pressure enough.

—Do it —he said at last, unable to hide how much he needed this.

Sienna didn't look at him.

Her eyes were fixed on the contract.

On her name written across every page.

On the conditions that had just reduced her world into something smaller.

She took a breath.

And signed.

The stroke was firm.

Elegant.

Without hesitation.

When she set the pen down, she lifted her gaze directly to him.

—Don't get used to it —she said—. This isn't surrender. It's a fight.

Elias took the document calmly.

—No —he replied—. It's a beginning.

He closed it without hurry, as if everything had already been decided long before this moment.

Then he pulled out another file.

Thicker.

More detailed.

He placed it in front of her.

—Now the rules begin.

Sienna didn't sit.

But she opened it.

She read quickly.

Analyzing.

—Primary residence... —she murmured—. Valli Penthouse.

She turned the page.

—Mandatory public appearances.

Another.

—Private events, dinners, strategic meetings...

Her eyes paused briefly.

—Schedules.

Elias watched her in silence.

—And above all... "happiness."

Sienna closed the document.

—This wasn't in the contract.

—No —he answered calmly—. But it's necessary.

She looked at him.

—Necessary for who?

Elias stepped closer.

—For this to work perfectly.

The air tightened.

—You can't disappear whenever you want —he continued—. You can't act like this is optional. And you can't contradict me... unless you're willing to deal with the consequences.

Sienna held his gaze.

She didn't step back.

She simply looked at him.

But she didn't argue immediately.

—I understand the image —she said at last—. I'm not stupid.

Elias inclined his head slightly.

—I'm glad to hear that.

—But don't expect blind obedience.

Silence.

Elias studied her for a few seconds.

—I don't need it.

Pause.

—I need results.

That made her fall silent.

Because she knew he was right.

Elias pointed to a line in the document.

—You move in tomorrow.

—I can handle it myself.

—No.

Sharp.

Final.

—My team and I will take care of it.

Sienna clenched her jaw slightly.

—I don't need an escort.

—Now you do.

Direct.

—You're not just Sienna Smith anymore.

Pause.

—You're part of something bigger.

That annoyed her.

But she didn't respond.

Elias stepped closer, invading her space.

—And something more vulnerable.

The word lingered in the air.

Sienna didn't look away.

—You're wrong.

Elias smiled faintly.

—We'll see.

He stepped back.

Restoring distance.

—We leave in ten minutes.

Sienna frowned.

—Where?

—Home.

That made her pause for a second.

—You said tomorrow.

—I changed my mind.

Silence filled the room.

Sienna studied him.

Evaluating.

—You like moving pieces fast.

—I like not wasting time on insignificant things.

Pause.

—And not giving you space to change your mind.

That almost made her smile.

—That wouldn't happen.

—I know. I've studied you well.

Elias's tone was low.

Certain.

Too certain.

Sienna closed the document and set it on the table.

—Then you shouldn't be worried about anything... "love."

Elias didn't respond.

He just watched her.

With something close to fascination.

Silent.

Calculating.

As if he were already thinking several moves ahead.

Something she couldn't yet see.

—Get ready —he said at last.

Sienna walked toward the door.

But before leaving, she stopped.

She didn't fully turn.

—This doesn't make you my owner... "my life."

Silence.

Elias didn't move.

He just watched her, studying her.

—No —he replied—. But it gives me enough control to do what needs to be done.

The answer was honest.

And dangerous.

Sienna gave a small nod.

Accepting it... for now.

Then she walked out.

The door closed with a sharp sound.

The end of the night.

Or the beginning of something worse.

Elias remained alone in the room.

He looked at the contract.

Then the pen.

And finally, the door she had just walked through.

He didn't look worried.

But he wasn't relaxed either.

Because now he understood something clearly:

Sienna wasn't a solved problem.

She was a risk.

One he had chosen to take.

And sooner or later...

she would try to break every single one of his rules.

Elias smiled faintly.

—Perfect... not good, not bad... just right for this game.

Because that made everything far more interesting.
