Mirror In Dust [TAEKOOK]
Part 1: The Reflection Wrapped in Fog
Author....
I shared this story once before, but over time, I ended up forgetting parts of the plot myself. So this time, I’m rewriting and rebuilding it from the beginning in a deeper and more refined way. Some emotions will still remain the same, but many mysteries, twists, and hidden truths will slowly unfold in a completely new light.

I hope you’ll stay with the story until the very end once again... 🤍✨
Seoul’s gray sky had settled into a strange silence today.
Beyond the glass window, the thick fog looked almost like a wall separating Jungkook’s study room from the outside world. Under the dim yellow glow of the desk lamp, Jungkook cleaned his glasses once before placing them back on his nose.
The diary in front of him lay open, yet he hadn’t written a single word in the last thirty minutes. He was a psychology professor understanding the darkest alleys of the human mind was his profession. But tonight, it felt as though he himself was getting lost inside the labyrinth of his own thoughts.
Taehyung
Jungkook? It’s very late.
Taehyung’s voice from the doorway was soft, yet it struck Jungkook like electricity. He turned around sharply.
Taehyung stood there holding the doorknob, the swell of his seven-month pregnancy visible beneath his loose white shirt. There was exhaustion in his eyes, but whenever he looked at Jungkook, that exhaustion always carried an indescribable tenderness.
With a sigh, Jungkook closed the diary.
Jungkook
Why are you still awake, Taehyung? You need rest right now. Didn’t the doctor say staying up late isn’t good for you?
Taehyung slowly walked inside and stood beside him. His cold hand rested gently against Jungkook’s forehead.
Taehyung
I can’t sleep because you’re awake. Lately, your hands tremble a lot, Jungkook…
Taehyung
And in your sleep, you talk to someone. Who is it?
Jungkook
No one. Probably work pressure. I’m just worried about the thesis papers for the new semester.
Taehyung held Jungkook’s chin and turned his face toward him.
Taehyung
You don’t stand in front of mirrors and talk to yourself, Jungkook. It sounds like you’re arguing with someone.
Taehyung
Sometimes it feels like there aren’t just two people in this room… but a third one standing here with us.
Jungkook tried to smile, but the expression never reached his lips.
Jungkook
The third person is already inside us, Taehyung. Our child. Maybe I’m just nervous because of that.
Taehyung said nothing. He simply rested his head against Jungkook’s chest.
As Jungkook ran his fingers through Taehyung’s hair, he stared into the darkness beyond the window.
For a moment, it felt like someone was standing behind the fog… watching him.
Someone with the same height.
The same shoulders.
The same silhouette.
**The Next Day — University Corridor**
Suga
Professor Jungkook! Wait!
Jungkook stopped walking. Suga was almost running toward him.
As the head of the university’s forensic department and Jungkook’s longtime friend, Suga rarely looked this disturbed. But today, his face carried an unusual tension.
Jungkook
What happened, Suga? Why are you so out of breath?
Jungkook asked. Without answering immediately, Suga pulled him toward a quiet corner.
Suga
Do you have any CCTV footage from last night? From the street outside your house?
Jungkook
**frowned*** No. Why? What’s wrong?
Suga took out his phone and played a video clip.
Suga
Watch this. Around 3 AM last night, police raided an underground club in Gangnam District. This guy was spotted outside.
Jungkook stared at the screen.
The footage was blurry, but a man could be seen stepping out of a black sports car. Leather jacket. Silver-tinted hair.
Then the man briefly looked toward the camera.
And suddenly, Jungkook felt the ground disappear beneath his feet. The man looked exactly like him. Even the smile was the same.
Jungkook
That’s not me, ***whispered** I was home the whole night. Taehyung can confirm it.
Suga slipped the phone back into his pocket.
Suga
I know it’s not you. Because this guy’s name is Jungguk. He’s the newest sensation in Seoul’s underground film industry. But that’s not the problem.
Suga’s expression darkened.
Suga
The problem is that he’s connected to Kai. And you know how dangerous Kai is.
Jungkook leaned against the wall, ears ringing.
Jungkook
Jungguk… who is he? And why does he look exactly like me?
Suga
I don’t know. But this guy could become a threat to your existence itself. People are already confusing the two of you.
Suga
There are comments under your university lecture videos asking if the professor started acting in movies.
Jungkook couldn’t respond. His mind had already gone back to last night.
The figure outside the fogged window.
Was that Jungguk? Had he been watching the house?
After finishing his classes, Jungkook sat alone in a quiet coffee shop.
The name “JUNGGUK” kept echoing in his head. Opening his laptop, he searched for him online.
There wasn’t much information. Only a few blurry photographs and one article: JUNGGUK: THE MAN OF MYSTERY — KAI Production’s newest discovery who never gives interviews.
The moment Jungkook looked into the man’s eyes in the photo, a chill ran through him. There was a wildness in those eyes. A dangerous kind of freedom Jungkook himself didn’t possess.
Jimin
Are you waiting for someone?
Jungkook looked up. Jimin stood there.
Taehyung’s childhood friend and a dance instructor, Jimin usually carried a playful sparkle in his eyes. But today, he looked at Jungkook with strange suspicion.
Jungkook
No, Jimin. Just sitting here. What about you? ** tried to sound normal**
Jimin sat across from him.
Jimin
I bought some vitamins for Taehyung. I’ll drop them off later. But there’s something I wanted to ask you.
Jimin
I saw you at a nightclub last night.
Jimin’s voice hardened slightly.
Jimin
I went over to say hello, but you shoved me away like you didn’t even know me. You even had two huge bodyguards with you. What was that about?
Jungkook
I was home last night, Jimin. You must’ve mistaken someone else for me.
Jimin smiled, but there was no warmth in it.
Jimin
I didn’t mistake anyone. I saw the mole behind your left ear. And that watch Taehyung gifted you. Are you living some kind of double life now?
Jungkook couldn’t answer. His thoughts spiraled violently. If Jimin really saw “him,” then did Jungguk also wear his watch?
Had Jungkook himself gone there somehow without remembering?
At dinner, Jungkook barely spoke.
Taehyung kept glancing at him repeatedly.
Taehyung
Namjoon hyung called earlier, **said softly.**
Taehyung
He said you were acting strange at the university today. You barely spoke to anyone.
Jungkook put down his spoon.
Jungkook
Maybe he misunderstood.
Taehyung gently held his hand.
Taehyung
Jungkook… Jimin came by this afternoon. He was really upset. He said you pretended not to know him. What’s happening?
Jungkook wanted to scream.
But he forced himself to stay calm. He could feel it now an invisible web tightening around him.
Someone was stealing his identity.
Jungkook
Taehyung… if I told you I never left the house last night, would you believe me? *** asked quietly**
Taehyung looked directly into his eyes. Tears shimmered there.
Taehyung
I want to believe you, Jungkook. But lately… even your scent feels different. Your clothes smell like perfumes I’ve never smelled before. Are you hiding something from me?
Instead, he stood up abruptly and walked straight to his study room. Opening the drawer, he searched frantically for the watch Taehyung had gifted him. It wasn’t there.
At that exact moment, his phone buzzed. An unknown number.A photo. The picture showed a man wearing Jungkook’s watch while holding a glass of alcohol.
And beneath it was a caption
UNKNOWN......?
You have a beautiful life, Professor. Especially your wife. Should I take over your duties for a while?
The phone slipped from Jungkook’s trembling hand. Slowly, he looked toward the window. The fog outside had disappeared.
Under the streetlamp stood a man. A man who looked exactly like him. The figure raised a hand toward Jungkook… waved once...…and vanished into the darkness.
Jungkook
**whispered shakily*** Who are you…?
Outside, heavy rain suddenly began pouring from the sky.
And Jungkook felt as though every drop of rain was washing away another piece of his existence.

Part 2: The Struggle of Existence
The message from last night and the shadow outside the window hadn’t allowed Jungkook to sleep for even a moment.
Rain drowned the city in endless noise, yet inside Jungkook’s mind echoed that strange voice — one he still couldn’t tell was real or simply a product of his imagination.
Before dawn even broke, he pulled out Jungguk’s photograph once again from the drawer and stared at it.
Taehyung entered the room carrying two cups of coffee. He looked at Jungkook’s exhausted face for a moment before sighing softly.
Taehyung
Are you still going to the university today? You look like you’re about to collapse.
Jungkook
**hiding his phone quickly** I have to. There are important files I need to submit. Did you not sleep at all?
Taehyung
How could I sleep? You kept tossing and turning all night. Sometimes you were shouting Jungguk’s name… and sometimes you were crying.
Taehyung
Jungkook, think about our child. If you fall apart like this, who am I supposed to rely on?
Jungkook
I’m sorry. I’m just… confused. Is Jimin coming over today?
Taehyung
No. He’s really angry with you. He still can’t believe you humiliated him at that club. He said you were wearing a leather jacket.
Jungkook froze. He didn’t even own a leather jacket.
Jungkook
Taehyung… do you really think I would lie to you? I was beside you the entire night
Taehyung looked directly into his eyes.
Taehyung
I know your body was here. But somehow… it feels like your mind was somewhere else. Tell me honestly, Jungkook…
His voice lowered carefully.
Taehyung
Do you have a twin brother I don’t know about?”
Without answering, Jungkook hurriedly got ready and left the house. He needed answers. And only one person might have them — Suga.
UNIVERSITY — SUGA’S OFFICE
Suga sat at his desk surrounded by forensic reports when Jungkook stormed inside.
Jungkook
Suga, get me his address. Jungguk — where does he live? Who does he work for?
Suga
Calm down first. Sit.
Jungkook slammed his hand onto the desk.
Jungkook
There’s no time to calm down! That man stole my watch. He’s meeting my friends while pretending to be me. Even Jimin got confused!
Suga leaned back heavily.
Suga
This situation is far more complicated than you think. I dug deeper into Jungguk’s profile last night. He works under Kai Productions.
Suga
Their headquarters is hidden inside an underground building in Gangnam. But normal people don’t just walk into that place.
Jungkook
Then I won’t go as a normal person.
Jungkook
I’ll go as Jungguk.
Suga stared at him in disbelief.
Suga
Have you lost your mind? Kai could be a murderer. And do you even know how Jungguk behaves?
Suga
Even if he looks like you, his body language is completely different. You’ll get caught instantly.
Jungkook
I have to take the risk. What if he shows up in front of Taehyung? What if he tries to take my place completely? I need to know why he’s trying to destroy my life.
AFTERNOON — NAMJOON’S OFFICE
Jungkook visited his older brother Namjoon.
Namjoon stood near the window drinking coffee while Jin sat beside him calmly. Jin always carried a strange peacefulness in his eyes — something Jungkook envied deeply today.
Namjoon
Jungkook, haven’t you been studying too much dark psychology lately? Suga said you’ve been asking strange questions.
Jungkook
Hyung… if you ever hear that I did something completely out of character… would you still believe me?
Jin stepped closer and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Jin
There’s always a thin wall between belief and reality, Jungkook. Sometimes what we see isn’t true… and sometimes what we feel isn’t false.
He studied Jungkook carefully.
Jungkook
I don’t know. It feels like I’m trapped inside a room full of mirrors.
Namjoon
Come back to reality. You have Taehyung. Your child is coming soon. Stop overthinking all this nonsense. Life needs stability.
But today, Namjoon’s words about stability felt poisonous to Jungkook.
Because deep down, he knew none of them truly understood the maze he was trapped in.
NIGHT — THE UNDERGROUND BUILDING IN GANGNAM
Wearing a black hoodie and mask, Jungkook stood in front of the underground building.
Then suddenly— A black sports car stopped nearby.
The way he walked. The curve of his neck. Everything mirrored Jungkook perfectly. Then the man removed his mask.
Two other men stepped out behind him — Mingyu and Eunwoo. Expensive suits. Earpieces.
Mingyu
Boss, Kai hyung is waiting inside. Tonight’s shoot is important.
Jungguk
Tell Kai I’m coming.
He glanced down at his wrist.
Jungguk
First I need to fix this watch. I scratched it last night after bumping into someone.
Under the streetlight, Jungkook’s breath stopped. The watch on Jungguk’s wrist was the exact same one Taehyung had gifted him. Rage and fear twisted violently inside his chest.
Suddenly Jungguk stopped walking. He slowly looked around, as though sensing someone nearby. Jungkook quickly hid behind a wall.
Eunwoo
What happened, boss? Someone there?
Jungguk smiled strangely.
Jungguk
For a second… it felt like my shadow drifted away from me.
Jungguk
It’s nothing. Let’s go.
They disappeared inside the building.
Jungkook remained frozen against the wall, breathing heavily.
The words echoed inside his head.
As he nervously opened his phone camera to check behind himself, a new message appeared on the screen.
UNKNOWN......?
Did you come to see me, Professor? Or did you come searching for yourself?
A second message followed immediately.
UNKNOWN......?
Be careful on your way home. Your wife is alone.
Jungkook started running. He had to get home.

Part 3: The Poisonous Scent of Memories
Jungkook’s House — Living Room
Breathing heavily, Jungkook burst through the front door. Taehyung sat on the sofa calmly.
But on the coffee table in front of him rested an expensive gift box and a bouquet of red roses.
Jungkook
Taehyung! Are you okay? Did someone come here?
Taehyung looked confused.
Taehyung
You sent these, didn’t you? Look at the card.
He handed it over. The handwriting was identical to Jungkook’s.
Jungkook
A small gift for our unborn child.
— Yours, Jungguk.
Jungkook tore the card apart instantly.
Jungkook
I didn’t send this! I told you someone is using my identity!
Taehyung stood up now, fear and anger mixing in his voice.
Taehyung
Then who sent it?
Taehyung
These roses are my favorite. And the necklace inside that box I saw it in a magazine last week.
Taehyung
Who besides you would know these things?
Jungkook
Taehyung, please listen to me—
Taehyung
Who am I supposed to listen to? ***voice trembled.***
Taehyung
The man standing in front of me? Or the man who sent these gifts?
Taehyung
**Tears gathered in his eyes.*** Jungkook… are you losing your mind? Or are you trying to make me lose mine?
At that exact moment, a car horn echoed outside. Jungkook pulled the curtain aside. The black sports car slowly drove past their house. And behind the dark glass, JUNGGUK stared directly at him.
Smiling.
Then, with one hand, he mimicked a gunshot gesture toward Jungkook before disappearing into the rain-soaked night. And in that moment, Jungkook realized—The war had only just begun.
Jungguk didn’t just want his face.
***Flashback — The Night Before taekook Wedding***
Jungkook and Taehyung stood alone on a deserted rooftop.
The clouds above looked unbearably heavy tonight, as if the sky itself was suffocating beneath them. Jungkook wrapped an arm around Taehyung’s waist and pulled him closer. His warm breath brushed against Taehyung’s neck like fire
Jungkook
Do you know something, Taehyung? Even the thought of sharing you with someone else makes it hard for me to breathe.
Jungkook
Are you only mine? Is every corner of your heart reserved just for me?
Taehyung
Why is your possessiveness so deep, Jungkook? Everything I have already belongs to you.
Jungkook leaned closer, stopping just inches away from Taehyung’s lips.
Jungkook
Then prove it. Let this dark night and the sound of this rain become witnesses. From tomorrow, you’ll legally be my husband… but tonight, you belong only to me.
Jungkook pinned Taehyung gently against the wall. There was no distance left between them.
Then Jungkook's lips crashed against Taehyung's lips. A soft, warm kiss that slowly intensified.
Taehyung's hands slid up to Jungkook's neck, his fingers tangling in his hair. Jungkook's tongue slipped between Taehyung's lips, probing and licking deep inside his mouth. Taehyung let out a soft whimper, his body pressing flush against Jungkook's chest.
Jungkook's one hand wrapped tightly around Taehyung's waist, while the other slipped under his shirt. Skin meeting skin sent electric shivers racing through both their bodies.
Jungkook's fingers traced circles over Taehyung's stomach, then slid upward to his chest nïpplê. He pinched it hard, drawing a deep groan from Taehyung's lips.
Taehyung
Jungkook... ahhng.~
That night, beneath the sound of pouring rain, Taehyung’s trembling breaths and Jungkook’s overwhelming love created something darker than simple romance.
A dangerous desire to completely consume one another.
Present Time — Study Room, Late Night
Jungkook slowly lifted his gaze from the laptop screen.
The memory of that night still lingered around him like warm breath against his skin.
Now he was fighting against his own shadow.
Taehyung was resting in the next room, though Jungkook knew he wasn’t truly asleep. He was awake, waiting for his husband.
Not for Jungkook himself.
But for the man called “Jungkook.”
The possessiveness that once felt like love now seemed more like a curse.
Jungkook
**whispering to himself** What if someone else is taking what once belonged to me? Using my face… my voice…
Suddenly, the study room door creaked open. Taehyung stood there. His eyes looked strangely empty tonight.
Taehyung
Are you writing in your diary? Or planning something about that man again?
Jungkook
Why are you awake, Taehyung? You’re not well.
Taehyung slowly walked closer.
Taehyung
The first time you held me that night, you said I belonged only to you.
His voice trembled faintly.
Taehyung
But now it feels like you’re no longer mine. It feels like the real Jungkook disappeared somewhere… and someone else came back wearing your face.
Jungkook reached for his hand.
Jungkook
I’m here, Taehyung. I’m still your Jungkook.
But Taehyung pulled his hand away.
He stared directly into Jungkook’s eyes.
Taehyung
If you truly were him, you would understand why I’m so terrified.
His voice lowered carefully.
Taehyung
That necklace from the gift box… do you know where I found it?
Taehyung
Under our bedroom pillow
Silence swallowed the room.
Taehyung
You didn’t leave the house last night… so tell me, Jungkook…
Fear slowly entered his expression.
Taehyung
Are you the one bringing these things without remembering?
Jungkook felt his body turn cold. He hadn’t left the house.
Or had Jungguk somehow invaded even his unconscious mind?
