Taming the Gangsters Hearts

Chapter 1: Brotherhood and Bullets

The floor-to-ceiling windows of the Vance-Rossi-Hayes Mansion offered a panoramic view of the city skyline, but inside, the atmosphere was thick with the scent of freshly brewed espresso and the metallic tang of firearm oil.

"I am telling you, Gabriel, if you leave one more weapon on the dining table, I am donating your entire collection to the local precinct," Elijah Vance said without looking up from his tablet.

Dressed in a bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, the twenty-eight-year-old CEO of Vance Global Defense looked every bit the corporate lion. Elijah Vance

He scrolled through a series of international shipping manifests, his calm, calculating demeanor giving no hint of the billions of dollars in security contracts moving through his hands.

Gabriel Rossi didn't look up from his spot on the velvet sofa, where he was methodically assembling the slide of a modified handgun. At twenty-six, the underworld mafia boss moved with the casual grace of a predator.

"A little steel adds character to the aesthetic, Eli. Besides, my guys were cleaning them. They're locked and loaded."

"They're a liability," Elijah replied, his voice dropping an octave. "And this is a residential property, not an armory."

"Oh, relax, old man," Gabriel grinned, flashing a quick, wild smile that made him look less like a feared kingpin and more like an overgrown golden retriever. "It's just the Russian contingency shipment. They're jittery, so we handle the drop personally."

A heavy oak door clicked open, and Julian Hayes walked in, his tie loose and his sleeves rolled to his forearms. At twenty-four, the financial tycoon was sharp and fast-moving in the boardroom, but right now, his hair was a messy bed-head and his face was drawn with irritation.

"Someone tell me why the catering company keeps sending the wrong blend of coffee to the Manhattan office," Julian groaned, throwing himself into an armchair. "I run a multi-billion-dollar fund. I shouldn't be dealing with decaf crises."

"Because you spend all your time checking the stock market instead of delegating," Gabriel mocked, aiming an empty magazine at the ceiling.

"I'm keeping an eye on our liquidity so we can expand the mansion's garage!" Julian shot back, pointing a finger at his brothers. "By the way, I need you two to look somewhat presentable today. We have the deal with the Sterling syndicate at the south docks in an hour."

Elijah finally set his tablet down and rubbed his temples. Despite running multi-million-dollar enterprises, their morning routines almost always devolved into childish bickering. "Julian, check the inventory on the latest shipment. Gabriel, put the gun away. We leave in ten minutes."

### **The South Docks, 11:00 AM**

The wind coming off the water was freezing, carrying the smell of salt and rust. Black luxury vehicles formed a semi-circle around the abandoned cargo warehouse.

Elijah stepped out of the black Mercedes, flanked by two armed security guards, his calm expression radiating quiet authority. Behind him, Gabriel slouched with his hands in his leather jacket, a mocking, wolfish smirk playing on his lips, while Julian stood at Elijah’s right, looking sharp and calculating.

"Vance," Victor Sterling greeted them with a cold, forced smile, flanked by half a dozen armed men. "I see you brought the family."

"We prefer to keep our business in the family," Elijah said, his voice level.

Sterling gestured to the crates containing the Vance Global Defense shipments. "The transaction is straightforward. The money is in the offshore account. We take the arms, you walk away."

Gabriel scoffed, twirling a lighter between his fingers. "Direct? Sure. But your men seem a little jumpy, Sterling. Look at the guy on the left—he’s gripping his rifle like it's a shovel."

Sterling’s smile tightened. "Watch your mouth, Rossi."

"Or what?" Gabriel asked, his voice dropping its teasing tone and sharpening into something deadly. He took a slow step forward, the wild wolf taking over. "You'll shoot? Let's be honest, Sterling. You don't have the leverage to demand anything. We're only here because Elijah felt like clearing out last year's inventory."

Elijah raised a single hand, signaling his brother to step back. The CEO stepped forward, towering over Sterling. "The funds have cleared, Victor. But don't mistake our presence for a partnership. If you try to move any of this equipment outside the designated zone, the security protocols will lock every system we provided you."

"Are you threatening me?" Sterling sneered.

"It's not a threat. It's a guarantee," Julian chimed in, stepping into the light, his strict corporate persona fully engaged. "Our legal and financial teams have already reviewed your company's assets. A single breach of contract, and we'll short your stock until your empire is nothing but paper."

Gabriel chuckled, leaning against a shipping container. "Don't test us, Sterling. We enjoy this a lot more than we should."

Elijah turned his back on the rival, checking his watch. "Let's go. We have a meeting back at the mansion."

As they walked back to their vehicles, Gabriel bumped his shoulder against Elijah's. "That was fun. Remind me to shoot someone later to celebrate."

"Just get in the car, Gabriel," Elijah sighed, though the faint smirk on his lips betrayed his own amusement.

Chapter 2: The Red Petal

The grand foyer of the Vance-Rossi-Hayes Mansion was a disaster zone. It was forty-five minutes until the start of the Rossi family’s annual spring gala and wedding ceremony, and the brothers were running behind.

"I cannot find my cufflinks!" Julian yelled from the upper landing, his tuxedo jacket half-unbuttoned as he sprinted past the glass railings. "If I'm late to the reception, the market will think I've been abducted!"

"Use the diamond ones on the dresser, and stop shouting in the hallway!" Elijah barked, adjusting his pristine white dress shirt. At twenty-eight, he was the picture of calm authority, though his sharp jaw was tight with restrained annoyance.

Gabriel came bounding down the stairs two at a time, wrestling with a black silk tie that looked as if it were being treated as an opponent in a wrestling ring. "Eli, tell Julian that if he touches my watch again, I’m locking him out of the vault."

"Both of you, downstairs. Now," Elijah ordered in a chillingly level tone.

The three brothers finally emerged into the courtyard, adjusting their formal wear. Elijah had chosen a deep red velvet dinner jacket that contrasted with the cold night, making him look strikingly elegant.

They were halfway to the downtown chapel when Julian slammed his palm against the leather armrest. "Stop the car. Turn around."

"What did you forget now?" Gabriel asked from the driver’s seat.

"The bouquet! We were supposed to bring the congratulatory arrangement for the bride!" Julian panicked, his cheetah-like reflexes failing him for once.

"There's no time to go back to the estate," Elijah said, scanning the dark city street. He spotted a warmly lit storefront down the block with a glowing red awning. "Stop here. I’ll buy it. You two wait in the car."

Elijah stepped out into the crisp air and pushed the heavy glass door of *Petals & Aesthetics*.

As he did, a small bell chimed, but it was accompanied by a sudden, soft cascade of crimson petals that drifted down from above, dusting his shoulders and dark hair.

He blinked, brushing a soft red petal from his lapel, and looked up.

Standing on a wooden step stool near the ceiling fixture was a girl wearing a vibrant red dress, her hair pinned back, looking remarkably like a modern-day Red Riding Hood. She was singing softly under her breath, unaware of the audience, tossing a handful of rose petals into the air to test a new display.

Her eyes drifted downward, and she froze.

Elijah, with the soft red petals still resting on the shoulders of his crimson coat, looked like a prince stepped out of an old tale. For a long, silent second, the imposing CEO of Vance Global Defense simply stared.

Maya’s eyes went wide. She jumped off the stool, her face flushing a bright, embarrassed red as she stumbled forward.

"I—I am really sorry!" she stammered, her voice bubbly and sweet. "I was just so happy that my new shipment arrived on time that I forgot I had officially unlocked the door!"

She rushed over, her hands fluttering as she began picking the petals off his coat and dark hair with soft, hurried touches. "I'm so sorry, sir! What can I get you? Are you here for an arrangement?"

"A wedding bouquet," Elijah said, his voice unusually low, the fierce lion inside him suddenly feeling tongue-tied.

"Right away!" Maya chirped, turning to the workbench with practiced speed. "I have some beautiful white and red roses just in."

While Maya’s quick hands arranged the stems, Elijah stood motionless. His dark, calculating gaze remained locked on her. There was a bright, chaotic warmth to her that felt completely alien compared to the cold, structured world he lived in.

"Here you go," Maya said, turning and holding the bouquet out to him. "That will be sixty dollars."

Elijah reached out to take the stems, and as he did, the tips of his fingers brushed against her warm skin. A sharp jolt ran up his arm, and for the first time in his twenty-eight years, the calm CEO felt his heart skip a beat.

He pulled his hand back, gave a quick, awkward nod, and hurried out the door.

"You're sweating," Gabriel observed from the driver's seat when Elijah threw the door shut.

"It was... the humidity in the shop," Elijah muttered, staring straight ahead as Gabriel pulled away.

The ceremony was a blur of bright lights and expensive champagne, but throughout the evening, Elijah found it difficult to concentrate.

Late that night, back in the quiet sanctuary of the mansion, Elijah took off his red dinner coat. As he reached into the inside pocket, his fingers caught on something soft. He pulled out two crimson rose petals that had remained hidden in the fabric.

A faint smile touched his lips. He carried the petals over to his heavy oak study table. Taking a small roll of white tape, he carefully fastened the petals to a clean piece of premium stationery.

"This will keep you stored for a long time," he whispered to the fragile red leaves.

Opening the drawer of his desk, he retrieved his favorite leather-bound book on corporate strategy and slid the page between the pages, letting the quiet warmth of the florist linger in his study.
