A man lie on the ground under a flickering street light, the gravel biting into him as the rain smacked his skin. Washing away the blood coming from his chest as his right hand pushes a blade deeper into his heart. And as he did, he stared into the light, the first light he saw in many years. And as he did something in him broke, something in his mind shattered leaving him empty, a hollow shell of the man he used to be. The wind stirred, picking up and in no time a tornado had formed. With lightning and thunder tearing through the sky. The tornado swept him up as the sky split open, throwing him around.
He didn't resist, as it couldn't hurt him. Thinking of that he frowned a bit, jealous of all the mortals who could die. But he wasn't a mortal, more like a monster trapped in a body that looked human. A monster that couldn't die, trapped in a body that didn't age. Though as he watched a star come crashing into the earth he remembered all the humans that existed on it long ago. (They were a bright people, always getting into trouble.) He smiled as the once dark earth lit up, once again but this time for good.
After the star destroyed earth, the man's burnt and torn body went flying into space healing instantly. The man sighed, making himself new clothes with his magic, then went to sleep still flying through space. Upon waking up he found himself in a brightly lit room. He sat up and as he looked around, he saw three red packs next to a bowl of soup. He picked up one of the packs and saw "Blood type A positive.” written on it. And as he put it back down, a man entered the room shocked to see him sitting up.
“Good morning, I found you laying by the road, so I brought you to my home.” “Do you remember how you got there?” Grag asked, handing him a cup of water. “No.” He replied, shaking his head. “I checked to make sure you weren't injured, but please do tell me if you're in any pain.” After that they talked and Grag learned the man's name was Ethan. When telling his name Ethan thought back to the girl who gave it to him, and although it had been many years, and he's had many names, that was the only one that truly stuck with him.
Maybe it was the meaning of the name, the way it embodied him so fully. Ethan learned that the world he's in is called Blue Star, and is inhabited by vampires and humans alike. Humans have adapted to be able to secrete extra blood in their bodies as a result of “The Time Of Scarcity.” Although Greg didn't go into much detail about the time, Ethan could piece bits to gather. (It seems the Time Of Scarcity was a time where because of a lack of food humans and vampires were dying out and people turned to crime. A lot of vampires hunted humans.)
(While some kept them as Feeding Servants in exchange for food. Humans on the other hand stole and killed each other. Some formed groups out of jealousy of the vampires' long lives, and abundant food. And this occurred for ten years before a rumored pure blood vampire appeared and spread their magic all through the world making all the vegetation grow. And ever since the land has been back to normal.)
(But it seems that after the vampire spread their magic across the land humans have been able to produce a fixed amount of extra blood in their bodies that resets yearly. The average amount of extra blood humans can reduce is around 12 to 26 packs of blood a year, other than that they are just normal humans.)
Two days passed as Grag managed to get Ethan an ID, birth certificate etc. then took him to the hospital to test for his blood type. After the wait a nurse led them to a room and went to get the doctor. Five minutes later the doctor appeared with crimson red eyes and a tired look on his face. The nurse was behind him wheeling something in as Ethan looked up from the phone in his hands, handing it back to Grag.
As the doctor stepped closer to Ethan he paused, his brows scrunched up before introducing himself as doctor Lu. “I see that you're here today to test for your blood type?” Ethan nodded in response as he watched the nurse set up a machine. “Alright then I will need you to put your hand in this blood measuring machine.”
“You should feel a pinch as a needle collects a sample of your blood.” “After it does it will measure the amount of extra blood your body can produce yearly and your blood type.” “No need to worry though as it will only take a small sample.” After the doctor's explanation Ethan stuck his hand in the machine. And felt as the needle pricked his finger before quickly disappearing. And as it did doctor Lu and Gray's eyes glowed bright red as they stepped back from Ethan.
As they stepped back they covered their noses, the doctor with his hand and Grag with his sleeve.
What's wrong guys? Ethan asked as he saw their glowing red eyes locked on the device his hand was still in.
“Y-your blood.” Grag said, swallowing his saliva as his body started to heat up. “Smells so sweet.” He says taking deep breaths as his body trembles.
The nurse hands them both a mask, after the doctor put on the mask he inhaled deeply, getting a big whiff of a strong peppermint scent.
Ethan watched as their eyes went back to their normal red color and, no longer a glowing red.
The machine started beeping as doctor Lu told Ethan to take his hand out, and as he did a black card came out as well.
“That black card has your blood type and your yearly extra blood amount on it.” “If you are planning to donate blood, or work as a Feeding Servant, show them your card.”
“As the card can also detect how much blood you used, so as not to put you at risk of excessive blood loss.”
After doctor Lu finished speaking, Ethan nodded still looking at Grag who was just now coming to his senses. As the nurse put a weird, thick looking band-aid on his finger. Before leading them both out of the room, and bidding them a good day.
As they entered the house Grag immediately started asking questions.
“Ethan?”
“Yes, Grag?”
“What the heck was that!?” “Why does your blood smell so sweet?” he asked, his face still slightly red from the smell.
Ethan shrugged, glancing at the black card in his hand. “Well this card says that my blood type is O Negative if that has anything to do with it.” Ethan said, sliding the card into his pocket.
Grag froze his eyes going wide before rubbing his temples in stress. “Yup, that would do it.” He said pacing around the living room. Then he went to his room and came out with a huge pile of clothes before shoving them into Ethan's hands telling him to wear these when he leaves the house.
“We will go clothes shopping soon but until then wear these.” Grag then told him to be careful not to get hurt as his blood type is very desirable among vampires, and could lead to dangerous situations.
“Your best bet is to become a Feeding Servant, for a wealthy.” “they have high protection for their Feeding Servants.”
“And you still have the freedom to live however you want as long as you provide your blood, and don't do anything that could impact the quantity of your blood.”
“Most of the jobs are live in positions, some with free food and transportation as well.” Grag kept rambling on about the job position while Ethan just stood there holding the clothes Grag gave him.
Eventually they both went back to their respective rooms. And as Ethan sat on the bed he looked at the black card once again.
Card info:
Name: Ethan Millers
Age: 23
Blood type: O negative
Yearly blood bag limit: 20,000
Yearly blood bag usage: 0
Ethan considered manipulating the card for a lower yearly number, but decided against it.
He laid down on the bed, and closed his eyes. He thought about what to do with his life, for it had been many years since he had been among people.
Looking at the card one last time he closed his eyes to rest.
Two weeks later Ethan and Grag went to the Mall.
While there Grag led Ethan to a clothing store, picking out a few outfits Ethan tried them on.
(What do you think?) He asked, stepping out of the changing room.
(Looks good.) Grag replied, handing him another outfit to try on.
He tried on the outfit and came out again noticing a small crowd staring at him.
Each time he came back out, he noticed more people would be there watching him model the clothes.
By the time he got done showing off- I mean trying on clothes the once spacious store was now packed with people.
Soon Grag paid for the clothes and dragged Ethan out of the store before the crowd could react.
In the car they pull off as Grag let's out a sigh.
(Really Ethan?) Grag said, looking at him incredulously.
Ethan just smiles and looks out the car window, it's been years since he felt this alive.
Leaning his head against the window, he whips out the phone Grag gave him, his first week of living with him.
After scrolling down some he saw an app he had never noticed before.
“VampFeeder?” He said tilting his head he looks at Grag as they come to a red light.
“Is this the app you use?”
“Hmm?” Grag hums looking over.
Ethan turns his phone around, pointing at the app.
Glancing at the phone, Grag nods and puts his eyes back on the road.
“Yeah, I get blood deliveries from there, it's actually how I met my wife.”
“WIFE!?!” Ethan yelled, shock evident on his face.
“Hahaha, yeah I didn't know it was that surprising.”
“Oh by the way here.” Grag said, handing him some business cards.
“What is this?” Ethan said, fumbling with the cards.
“Business cards, while you were busy modeling you actually got some offers, how ironic.”
*Rolls eyes* “Is that jealousy I hear?”
Grag elbows him. “Yeah right model boy.”
After three seconds of silence they both burst into laughter.
“Model boy? 😂😂😂”
They continue to laugh as Grag drives them home.
At the house Ethan starts to cook and drops a few drops of his blood in the dish.
The food:
“Grag! Come here for a second.”
“Did you need me?” Grag said emerging from the hallway.
“Yes, could you try this please?” he said, handing a plate to him.
“Umm you know vampires can't taste human food right?
“Yes, but I wanted to try something so tell me how it tastes.”
“Ethan I can't taste it.”
“You haven't even tried it yet.”
“There's no point in me trying something I can't taste.”
“Grag, do you take me for an idiot? I may have lost my memory but I am far from dumb.”
“Now. Try. It.”
“Okay, okay, fine I'll try it!”
