I ME Myself
The Witness of the Monsoon.
A dim, rainy street in the city. Heavy gray clouds.
Continuous heavy rain and distant thunder.
[Narrative Block]
The sky is the color of a fresh bruise. It’s mid-August—the height of Shravan—and the city is drowning in its own secrets.
Revan
Great. Just great. ⛈️
Revan
I forgot my umbrella. Again.
Revan
I was just looking for a dry spot to wait out the storm.
Revan
I wasn't looking for a reason to change my life.
Revan runs toward a lonely wooden park bench under a leaking canopy.
Revan
Wait... what is that?
He spots a brown leather notebook sitting on the edge of the bench. It’s soaked, the edges curling from the water.
Revan
Hey! Did someone forget this?
He looks around. The park is empty. Only the sound of rain answers him.
Revan
It’s going to be ruined if I leave it here.
He picks it up. The leather is cold. In the center, gold-embossed letters spell out a single name: AUGUST.
Revan
August? Is that a month... or a person?
He opens the cover. The first page isn't a name or a phone number. It's a confession.
August's Diary
"To the stranger who finds this: Don't look for me. The girl who wrote these words is already gone. I’ve left her here in the rain so I can finally breathe. If you read this, you aren't a thief. You’re a witness."
Revan
"Gone"? What does she mean by gone?
Revan turns to the next page. The ink is slightly smudged, like a teardrop hit the paper before it dried.
Revan
Whispering:
Who are you, August? And why does it feel like you're talking directly to me?
A flash of lightning illuminates the bench, making the wet leather shine like a tombstone.
Revan
You tried to bury yourself in this ink, August...
Revan
But I think I’ve just found the only thing in this city worth searching for.
To everyone reading this, thank you for joining me. This is my very first time writing and publishing a story. It took all of my courage to finally share these characters with you.
