Reborn: Making Them Regret (Taekook)
Ashes to Rage
author
Greetings, readers! This marks my debut into the world of Taekook fanfiction, and I'm eager to share this story. I'm continuously honing my writing skills, so please don't hesitate to point out any areas where I can improve. Your support means a great deal to me, and I hope you find enjoyment in this story. 🍓
Tied to a beam in a cold, damp room, Taehyung's body ached with bruises, his wrists raw. He tasted blood, humiliation. The door creaked open, revealing Park Bogum, his boyfriend, and Kang Seoyeon, his sister. Their eyes met his broken form, then turned to each other.
A slow, deliberate smile. A sickening kiss. Each murmur a hammer blow to his shattered heart.
kang taehyung
(hoarse, tearful) How... how can you do this to me...?
Bogum pulled back from Seoyeon, a sneer twisting his lips.
park bogum
You thought we actually cared? You were always so naive, Taehyung.
Seoyeon giggled, running a possessive hand down Bogum's arm.
kang seoyeon
He was just a plaything, babe. A stepping stone. You should have known better than to trust us.
Taehyung's eyes widened, a fresh wave of agony washing over him, deeper than any physical pain.
kang taehyung
(whispering, broken) Plaything...? Stepping stone...?
park bogum
Precisely. And now you're useless.
Suddenly, the main door to the room burst open. His 'parents' entered, followed closely by his brother. Their faces were cold, devoid of warmth or concern for his state. They surveyed the scene, then fixed their gaze on Taehyung.
??
(a cruel smirk) Look at him, still hoping for a shred of decency from us. Pathetic.
??
(coldly, dismissing his pain) You're making a scene, as usual.
??
(with a sigh of exasperation) We've put up with your existence for far too long, Taehyung. It's time this charade ended.
Taehyung stared, disbelieving, his voice catching in his throat.
kang taehyung
(raspy, pleading) Mother? Father? brother? What are you talking about?
His 'father' stepped forward, his eyes like chips of ice.
kang daehyun
You're no son of ours. You were an adopted mistake we never loved. A burden from the start. But your grandfather... (he scoffed) ...he truly believed you were a real Kang, one of his blood.
His 'mother' shook her head, almost bored.
kang eunji
He foolishly transferred a significant portion of his inheritance to you, believing he was securing the Kang legacy. It was always meant for us. Always.
His brother stepped closer.
kang jaehwan
(stepping closer, enjoying Taehyung's despair) So we played along. A little acting, a little manipulation. All for the sake of the family fortune you so undeservedly received. Consider this an overdue family cleaning, little brother. You never quite fit, and now you're an inconvenience to our rightful claim.
Taehyung's gaze flickered between them, his heart shattering into irreparable pieces. He searched for a flicker of regret, of hesitation, of anything, but found only cold, calculating contempt.
kang taehyung
(a ragged gasp) Why... why now? Why all of you...?
park bogum
(shrugging casually, as if discussing the weather) Timing, Taehyung. It's all about timing. Your... usefulness expired now that the inheritance is secured.
His 'father' nodded once. Jaehwan produced a wicked blade. A flash of silver, then searing agony consumed Taehyung. Darkness swallowed him whole, the echoing laughter of his tormentors the last sound he heard.
But death sparked rebirth.
He awoke with a gasp in his own bed, uninjured. His frantic checks confirmed no bruises, no raw ropes. A calendar on his desk showed the date: a full year before his murder. A quiet voice echoed in his mind: "The Moon Goddess has intervened. You have been granted a second chance, child. Infused with power, you must forge your own path." He clutched his head as the voice faded, leaving potent, unfamiliar energy coursing through him. The gentle, naive soul was gone, obliterated by betrayal and death. In its place: burning, incandescent rage.
kang taehyung
(whispering, his voice laced with a dangerous new resolve) Where am I...? Did... did I get reborn?
He looked at his reflection in the mirror, a hard glint in his eyes.
kang taehyung
(A chillingly calm vow) They will pay. Every last one of them. I'll make them pay.
No Longer Naive
Taehyung’s hand clenched. A spark of shimmering silver light flared in his palm – raw, untamed power, the Moon Goddess's gift. He absorbed it, knowing he had a year to master it, to become unrecognizable.
kang taehyung
(muttering to himself) First, I need information.
Before he could even begin to process his next move, his bedroom door burst open without a knock. Kang Seoyeon stormed in, her face twisted in a theatrical mask of fury, with Kang Jaehwan lurking right behind her, a smug look on his face.
kang seoyeon
(screaming, pointing a trembling finger at him) You! You little thief! Give it back!
Taehyung merely raised an eyebrow, a flicker of cold amusement in his eyes. He remembered this moment. A month after his grandfather's will was read. Seoyeon's "missing" allowance, conveniently blamed on him to make him look irresponsible and greedy to the 'parents'. He had cried then, pleaded his innocence, endured their accusations and punishments. But this time...
kang taehyung
(coldly, his voice flat and emotionless) Give what back, Seoyeon?
Seoyeon's mouth dropped open, clearly expecting his usual panic and tears. Jaehwan stepped forward.
kang jaehwan
Don't play dumb, you worthless leech! Seoyeon's allowance is gone. And everyone knows you're the only one desperate enough to steal!
kang seoyeon
(sniffing dramatically) My new designer handbag money! I know you took it! You always hated that I had nice things!
Taehyung leaned against the mirror, crossing his arms. His expression was cool, unreadable. He remembered where Seoyeon had actually hidden the money – tucked inside a specific book on her shelf.
kang taehyung
(his voice low, almost flat, yet it cut through their bluster) seoyeon, you know where it is, yet you keep on blaming it on me.
Seoyeon's face paled, her theatrical fury replaced by genuine shock. Jaehwan's smug expression vanished, replaced by a scowl. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Taehyung never fought back, never knew their tricks, never spoke with such chilling certainty.
kang seoyeon
(stuttering) Wh-what are you talking about? How would you know that?
kang taehyung
(his eyes holding an unnerving depth, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk touching his lips) Just a guess.
kang jaehwan
(furious) What are you talking about! Just give it back to Seoyeon!
But then Seoyeon, ever the actress, stepped forward, placing a hand on Jaehwan's arm, her eyes wide and seemingly innocent.
kang seoyeon
(her voice dripping with false pity, a practiced soft cadence that once fooled him completely) Enough, brother... Taehyungie might need it so he took it...
Taehyung’s gaze narrowed. He remembered how, in his past life, this "pity" would have twisted his gut, making him feel like a truly pathetic villain, further isolating him while Seoyeon played the benevolent victim. He had even, foolishly, thought she was trying to protect him from Jaehwan's anger, not realizing she was merely turning the knife further, embarrassing him more profoundly. But now, seeing through the saccharine act, all he felt was a surge of contempt.
kang taehyung
(his eyes holding an unnerving depth, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk touching his lips) Then let's check your shelf in your room, Seoyeon.
kang seoyeon
(in her mind: No... no... I will get exposed...) Taehyungie, what are you talking about...? (Her voice was a strained whisper, her previous indignation entirely gone, replaced by a desperate fragility.)
Jaehwan stared, bewildered, at his sister. He'd never seen her so flustered.
kang jaehwan
What is he talking about, Seoyeon? Is he just making things up?
kang taehyung
(stepping closer, his eyes fixed on Seoyeon, enjoying her discomfort) Oh, am I? Why don't you go with your dear sister and check? After all, it's her money, isn't it? She'd want to find it. Unless... she doesn't want it found?
Seoyeon swallowed hard, her eyes darting frantically between Taehyung and the door. Her carefully constructed facade was crumbling. This wasn't the old Taehyung, easily cowed and manipulated. This was someone... terrifyingly sharp.
kang seoyeon
(forced laugh, high-pitched and unnatural) He's just playing a game, brother. Don't listen to him! He's trying to distract us!
kang jaehwan
(firmly, taking Seoyeon's arm, already convinced by her outburst that Taehyung is indeed trying to distract them) Come on, Seoyeon. Let's just go look.
Jaehwan impatiently pulled Seoyeon out of the room. Taehyung remained, a faint, cold smile on his lips. Moments later, he heard muffled shouts, then the distinct sound of a book being pulled from a shelf, followed by Jaehwan's triumphant yell.
kang jaehwan
(from down the hall) Seoyeon? It was there!
Jaehwan returned, swaggering, holding a stack of cash. Seoyeon followed, her face a masterpiece of pitiful tears and wounded innocence.
kang seoyeon
(sobbing, dramatically clutching her chest, her voice trembling) Taehyungie... I know you're mad at me because Mom and Dad value me more, and they trust me with my own money... but this is too much. (She gestured wildly at the cash in Jaehwan's hand.) Why would I hide my own money... and then try to blame you? It makes no sense! You must have put it there yourself, trying to frame me! You want to ruin my reputation and make me look bad to Mom and Dad!
Jaehwan, seeing his sister's genuine-looking distress and her "logical" explanation, completely bought it. His earlier confusion vanished, replaced by indignation on Seoyeon's behalf. He shot a furious glare at Taehyung.
Taehyung merely watched them, his expression unreadable, a chilling stillness about him. The old Taehyung would have been heartbroken, crushed by this injustice. The new Taehyung simply saw confirmation of their boundless stupidity and malice.
Seoyeon sighed audibly, a sound of relief, when Jaehwan's face solidified into anger directed at Taehyung. She then clung to Jaehwan's arm, burying her face into his shoulder.
kang seoyeon
(muffled, but audible through her 'sobs') It's okay, brother. Let's just... let it go. Taehyungie is just... going through a phase. Let's not make a big deal out of it. It's just a little money...
Jaehwan, completely buying into her performance, glared daggers at Taehyung.
kang jaehwan
(snarling at Taehyung, shaking his head in disgust) Unbelievable. You really are lower than dirt. Leave my sister alone, you hear me?
They both turned and stormed out of his room, Jaehwan's angry voice fading as they walked away.
kang taehyung
(mumbling to himself, a dry, humorless chuckle escaping his lips) Idiots.
He could feel the nascent power within him stirring, a cold thrill running through his veins. This was just the beginning.
