Marked By Power
Chapter One: The Scent of an Enemy
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿-𝗻𝗶𝗺
Hello, everyone. This is my first story here I'm on the hang of it so I further apologies for any errors or uncomfortable content please comment and don't report. Have fun reading: 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿.
Have fun!!!
The annual Zenith business gala was known for three things:
money,
power,
and bloodless wars hidden behind expensive smiles.
The grand ballroom glittered beneath crystal chandeliers while the most influential families in Seoul gathered in designer suits and silk gowns. Alphas dominated the room with overwhelming pheromones, powerful omegas stood beside them with practical elegance and Betas moved carefully between everyone like shadows.
At the center of it all stood the Jeon family.
Jeon Jungkook adjusted the cuffs of his black suit, his sharp gaze fixed on the entrance of the ballroom.
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"You're staring again." (he muttered quietly beside him while checking messages on a tablet)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"I'm waiting." (he simply said)
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"For Kim Taehyung?" (Sunoo asked)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
( His jaw tightened immediately)
The answer was obvious.
Across the ballroom, investors whispered nervously among themselves as the atmosphere slowly shifted.
Then the doors opened.
Silence spread almost instantly.
Kim Taehyung stepped inside wearing a perfectly tailored black suit, one hand tucked casually into his pocket. His expression was calm, unreadable, beautiful in a way that felt dangerous.
Beside him walked Park Yoona carrying a folder while scanning the room sharply.
Behind Taehyung followed his parents.
Kim Namjoon carried the natural dominance of an Alpha leader effortlessly, while Kim Seokjin smiled gracefully at nearby executives who immediately bowed their heads respectfully.
The Kim family had arrived.
And suddenly the ballroom felt smaller.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
( Jungkook scoffed quietly)
"Always making an entrance."
But before Sunoo could answer—
It happened.
A scent.
Dark amber.
Burning Cedar wood.
Smoke after rain.
Jungkook froze.
His Alpha instincts snapped violently awake beneath his skin.
His pulse quickened.
Something primal clawed inside his chest.
Not Omega.
Not Alpha.
Something else.
Something stronger.
His eyes locked onto Taehyung instantly.
At the exact same moment—
Taehyung stopped walking.
For the first time all evening, the Enigma's composed expression faltered slightly.
His sharp eyes slowly lifted across the ballroom until they landed directly on Jungkook.
The air between them became suffocating.
Several nearby Alphas shifted uncomfortably from the pressure of Taehyung's pheromones, but Jungkook didn't move.
Couldn't move.
The strange pull between them tightened like a chain.
Then Taehyung smiled faintly.
A challenge.
Jungkook's instincts roared.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"Interesting." (Taehyung said softly)
Even from across the room, Jungkook heard it clearly.
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
(Sunoo looked alarmed) "Sir...your pheromones—"
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"I know." (Jungkook tore his gaze with difficulty, forcing himself to breathe normally)
This was bad.
Very bad.
Because for the first time in his life—
Another person's scent was affecting him.
And worst of all—
It belonged to his enemy.
Music slowly returned to the ballroom, but the tension never truly disappeared.
People continued talking, laughing, drinking expensive champagne—
yet nearly everyone kept glancing at toward the two heirs standing on opposite sides of the room.
Because neither of them had looked away again.
Jimin approached Jungkook first, elegant in silver silk, his sharp eyes narrowing immediately.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻 [𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮]
"You're releasing pheromones."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook clenched his jaw)"I'm controlling it."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻 [𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮]
"Barely."
Jimin followed his son's gaze across the ballroom and instantly understood the problem
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻 [𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮]
(His expressed darkened slightly) "Oh."
Near the entrance, Kim Seokjin had realized the exact same thing.
Taehyung's fingers tightened subtly around the champagne glass in his hand while executives nearby shifted uncomfortably.
An Enigma losing emotional control was not something anyone wanted to witness.
Especially not in public.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗼𝗸𝗷𝗶𝗻 [𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮]
"Taehyung." (He warned softly)
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"I know."
But Taehyung's eyes never left Jungkook.
The Alpha looked infuriatingly confident standing beneath the golden ballroom lights, broad shoulders relaxed, dark eyes sharp with challenge.
Strong.
Dangerously strong.
Most Alphas instinctively submitted beneath Enigma pressure.
Jungkook didn't.
Instead, his pheromones pushes back.
The clash spread invisibly through the room like fire meeting gasoline.
Several lower-ranking Alphas quietly stepped farther away.
One Omega nearly dropped their wine glass.
And somewhere near the back, reporter had already started whispering.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗮 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"This is bad." (Yoona muttered under her breath)
Taehyung finally moved.
One step.
Then another.
The crowd instinctively parted for him.
Jungkook watched him approach, pulse growing heavier with each step.
Everything about Kim Taehyung irritated him.
The confidence. The beauty. The calm expression hiding something monstrous underneath.
Yet his Alpha instincts were becoming obsessed already.
When Taehyung finally stopped in front of him, the ballroom seemed to hold its breath.
Up close the scent was worse.
No—
Better.
Dangerously addictive.
Dark amber and smoke wrapped around Jungkook's senses until thinking became difficult.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung tilted his head) "So." (he said smoothly) "the famous Jeon Jungkook."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook smirked coldly) "Disappointed?"
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"Not at all."
Their pheromones surged again.
A nearby champagne tower rattled slightly.
Sunoo looked ready to faint.
Yoona looked ready to start filing resignation papers.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You're staring." (He said quietly)
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung's gaze flickered slowly over Jungkook's face.) "And you're resisting." (the word sounded almost intimate)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook stepped closer before he could stop himself, close enough to catch the faint warmth radiating from Taehyung's skin, close enough to notice Taehyung's pupils dilate slightly) "Maybe I just don't like losing."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(A dangerous smile appeared on his lips) "That makes two of us."
???
"Gentlemen." (The cold voice cut sharply between them)
Min Yoongi approached beside Kim Namjoon, both powerful Alphas carrying years of rivalry in their eyes.
The temperature in the ballroom seemed to drop instantly.
Yoongi glanced between Jungkook and Taehyung with immediate suspicion.
Namjoon looked even less pleased.
And for one brief moment—
the older generation realized something horrifying.
Their sons were compatible.
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿-𝗻𝗶𝗺
Hello, hoped you like the first episode. Don't forget to leave a comment, like and follow. Thank you (⌒‿⌒)
Chapter 2: Compatible
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿-𝗻𝗶𝗺
Hello everyone sorry for not continuing I had exams and so on but now I'm back. Let's dive back into our forbidden curb.
The silence after Yoongi's realization lasted only a second. But for the four parents standing there, it felt much longer.
Min Yoongi's sharp eyes moved from Jungkook to Taehyung, then back again.
The tension was impossible to miss. Unfortunately, everyone else in the ballroom was beginning to notice it too.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Jungkook." (The warning in Yoongi's voice was enough to make nearby executives flinch.)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook straightened immediately.) "Father."
Across from him, Kim Namjoon fixed Taehyung with a similar look
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗷𝗼𝗼𝗻 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Taehyung."
Unlike Jungkook, however, Taehyung only smiled politely which somehow made Namjoon even more suspicious.
Because Taehyung only smiled like that when he was hiding something. And Taehyung was definitely hiding something.
Beside him, Kim Seokjin looked between the two heirs and sighed internally. "𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧" he could only tell
Across the room, whispers had begun.
Investors, Executives, Reporters, everyone was watching, and both families hated it.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻 [𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮]
"Perhaps," (Jimin said smoothly, stepping forward with a charming smile) "we should stop providing entertainment for half the city."
The joke eased some tension immediately, some executives laughed nervously. Others quickly looked away.
The parents exchanged brief looks before separating their children without making it obvious.
At least that was the plan, the problem was—
Neither Taehyung nor Jungkook wanted to move.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You should leave first." (Jungkook folded his arms.)
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung raised an eyebrow) "Why?"
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"So that I don't have to look at you."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"Interesting." (Taehyung stepped closer.) "Because I was about to say the same thing."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook's Alpha instincts immediately flared.)
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(The corner of Taehyung's mouth lifted. He had done that intentionally)
Nearby Park Yoona pinched the bride of her nose.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗮 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"Oh, no."
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"What?" (Asked Yang Sunoo)
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗮 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"They're doing it."
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"Doing what?"
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗮 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"The thing where they pretend they're insulting each other while actually paying attention to nothing except each other."
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
(Sunoo stared, then looked back at Taehyung and Jungkook. The back at Yoona.) "... They're doing that?"
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗮 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"They absolutely are."
Sunoo looked horrified and Yoona looked tired. Fortunately, before another argument could start, a host announced the beginning of the evening's charity auction.
The crowd gradually shifted towards the main stage. Business discussions resumed, the tension finally eased or so everyone thought.
An hour later, Taehyung stood alone on a balcony overlooking Seoul's glittering skyline. The cool night air helped clear his thoughts.
At least temporarily, the Enigma inside him was restless. Dangerously restless.
He hated it, for years, his instincts had remained perfectly under control. Then Jungkook appeared and suddenly his body wanted things his mind refused to acknowledge.
Annoying, very annoying. The balcony door opened behind him. Taehyung didn't need to turn around, he already knew who it was.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"You followed me."
A familiar voice answered immediately.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"No."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung finally looked over his shoulder. Jungkook stood there hands in his pockets.)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"I just happened to come to the same balcony."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"Of course."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Of course."
For a moment neither moved, the city lights reflected in their eyes. The distance between them felt smaller than before. More dangerous.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You know," (Jungkook said quietly) "I never believed the rumours about you."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung tilted his head.) "Which rumours?"
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"The ones saying you were different."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(A slow smiled appeared on Taehyung's face.) "And now?"
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook held his gaze.)
For the first time that evening, there was no mockery in his expression, no challenge. Just honesty.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Now I'm starting to think the rumours didn't go far enough."
The air between them grew still. And somewhere deep inside their instincts agreed on something neither of them was ready to admit.
This wasn't going away. The words lingered between them. "𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙪𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣'𝙩 𝙜𝙤 𝙛𝙖𝙧 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝." for a brief moment, neither Taehyung nor Jungkook spoke.
The city lights stretched endlessly below the balcony, casting silver reflections across the glass buildings of Seoul.
Taehyung looked away first, not because he was intimidated. Because he wasn't, but because the strange feeling in his chest was becoming increasingly irritating.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"You should be careful, Jeon Jungkook."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook learned against the balcony railing.) "Is that a threat?"
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"No." (Taehyung's expression remained calm.) "It's an advice."
That only made Jungkook curious, for years everyone had described Kim Taehyung as cold, unreadable, and impossible to understand.
Now that he was standing here, Jungkook realized something. The rumors weren't entirely accurate. Taehyung wasn't emotionless, he was hiding something.
And Jungkook found himself wanting to know what it was.
Inside the ballroom, however, their parents were already preparing for damage control.
At a table near the stage, Namjoon, Jin, Yoongi and Jimin sat together in uncomfortable silence. A rare and dangerous.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Absolutely not." (Yoongi's response came immediately.)
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗼𝗸𝗷𝗶𝗻 [𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮]
(Jin sighed.) "We haven't even discussed anything yet."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"I know." (Yoongi took a sip of his drink) "My answer remains absolutely not."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻 [𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮]
(Jimin rolled his eyes.)
Meanwhile, Namjoon remained thoughtful. Unlike the others, he wasn't focused on family reputation.
He was focuses on Taehyung and Taehyung's reaction worried him, because his son never paid attention to anyone for this long.
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿-𝗻𝗶𝗺

Chapter 3: The unwanted attraction
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿-𝗻𝗶𝗺
Hello, my dear babes. How are you all doing? Hope good, let's dive into another sea of wander and curious glanced between suppose rivals and also I recommend listening to 𝙑𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙮 when reading the story, you won't regret it. Enjoy
𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿— 𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
The rivalry continued as normal or at least, everyone pretended it did.
Meetings, competition, business deals, media appearances. Everything appeared unchanged.
Except for one thing, Taehyung kept noticing Jungkook everywhere. In news articles, at shareholders conferences and on business broadcasts.
It was annoying, extremely annoying. Especially because Jungkook seemed to be doing the exact same thing.
𝗖𝗘𝗢'𝗦 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗘: 𝗞𝗜𝗠 𝗧𝗔𝗘𝗛𝗬𝗨𝗡𝗚
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"You're staring." (Taehyung glanced up from his tablet.)
Across his desk, Yoona looked entirely unimpressed.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗮 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"I'm not. You've reread that article four times."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"I was analyzing market trends."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"The article is a photo of Jungkook cutting a ribbon at a charity event."
Taehyung closed the tablet, Yoona looked victorious.
At the Jeon Group Headquarters, things weren't much better. Jungkook sat through a meeting while Sunoo reviewed quarterly reports.
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"...and those are the final numbers."
Sunoo followed Jungkook's gaze, a business magazine sat open on the table. The cover featured Taehyung, Sunoo immediately closed it.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook frowned) "Why did you do that?"
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"You weren't listening."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"I was."
𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗼 [𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗮]
"You absolutely weren't."
Weeks passed
Then months.
The rivalry remained fierce.
But something subtle began changing. They started respecting each other. Neither wanted to admit, not even to themselves.
Taehyung admired Jungkook's determination, Jungkook admired Taehyung's intelligence.
Neither said a word, instead, they continued arguing whenever they met. Which somehow became their normal way of communicating.
One rainy evening, both companies attended a government-sponsored business summit. The event lasted hours.
By the end, everyone was exhausted. Including Taehyung, as people began leaving he paused near the entrance.
The weather outside was terrible, rain hammered against the windows. Thunder echoed across the city.
Then a familiar voice appeared beside him.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Forgot your umbrella?"
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung turned)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook stood there holding a black umbrella)
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(A small smiled tugged at the corner of Taehyung's mouth.) "Maybe."
For a few seconds, neither moved. Then Jungkook held the umbrella out.
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Come on."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung raised an eyebrow) "Are you offering me help?"
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Don't make me regret it."
The smile on Taehyung's face grew slightly and for the first time since they met—
Their conversation wasn't a battle, just two rivals standing beneath the same umbrella while rain fell around them.
But it was there
A beginning
Not love.
Not yet.
Just curiosity.
Respect.
And the first fragile thread of something that might one day become much more.
The rain continued to fall steadily around them, for several moments neither spoke.
The umbrella above their heads shielded them from the worst of the storm, but the silence felt strangely heavier than the rain itself.
Taehyung wasn't used to this. Usually, conversations with Jungkook turned into arguments within minutes.
Yet somehow, standing side by side in the cold evening air, neither of them seemed interested in fighting.
It was... unfamiliar. And Taehyung disliked unfamiliar things.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"You've been quiet."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook glanced at him.) "Maybe I don't always have something to say."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"I don't believe that."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(A laugh escaped Jungkook before he could stop it.)
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung looked mildly surprised.)"What's funny?"
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"How unfortunate."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(The corner of Jungkook's mouth lifted.)
For the first time, the silence felt comfortable. As they walked toward the parking area, neither noticed how carefully they were observing each other.
Jungkook noticed that Taehyung walked slightly slower than he expected. Taehyung noticed that Jungkook always positioned himself closer to the road than the sidewalk.
Small things. Meaningless things. Yet both remembered them anyway.
When they finally reached the parking lot, Taehyung's driver was waiting. So was Jungkook's.
The moment had ended. Both knew it. Neither acknowledged it.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
"Goodnight." (Taehyung opened his car door.)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook nodded.) "Goodnight."
No insults.
No challenges.
No competition.
Just a simple farewell.
The realization followed both of them home.
𝗞𝗜𝗠 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 — 𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧.
Taehyung sat on the balcony outside his room. The city lights stretched endlessly before him.
Usually, after a long day, his mind focused on work.
Contracts.
Investments.
Future strategies.
Tonight, however, his thoughts kept drifting elsewhere.
Annoying.
Very annoying.
A familiar voice interrupted him.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗷𝗼𝗼𝗻 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You've been staring at the same page for twenty minutes."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung didn't need to look up. Only one person entered his room without permission.) "Hello, Father."
Kim Namjoon sat beside him. Neither spoke for a while. Then Namjoon asked calmly.
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗷𝗼𝗼𝗻 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"How much trouble is he?"
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗵𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 [𝗘𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮]
(Taehyung immediately knew who he meant.) "A considerable amount."
𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗷𝗼𝗼𝗻 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Namjoon nodded. That answer alone told him everything.)
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 — 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁.
Elsewhere in the city, Jungkook was having a similar problem. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't alone.
𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You smiled."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook looked up from his drink. Across the room, Jung Hoseok was staring at him suspiciously.) "I always smile."
𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"Not like that."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Hoseok leaned forward.) "You do."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"No."
𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You do."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"No."
𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
"You absolutely do."
𝗝𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Jungkook threw a cushion at him.)
𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸 [𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮]
(Hoseok laughed.)
Days passed.
Then another week.
Neither Taehyung nor Jungkook contacted each other. There was no reason to.
Their companies were still rivals. And yet... Whenever news about the other appeared, neither scrolled past it immediately.
Whenever a meeting mentioned the other's company, both listened a little more carefully than necessary.
Not because they liked each other. Not yet. Because liking someone required trust. And trust required time.
What existed between them now was something much smaller.
Curiosity.
Respect.
A growing awareness.
The kind that appeared slowly and quietly. And somewhere deep beneath rivalry, pride, and instinct...the first fragile foundation of something more had begun to form.
