From a Quiet Wedding to a Global Scandal

marriage

Keira! Tell me you saw the clip! James McAvoy just announced he’s playing the stadium here! I’m literally shaking.
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
(Sighing heavily) "I don't care, Sarah. I’m trying to finish this paper. Can we talk about something—anything—else?
...
...
How can you be so cold? That man is a literal rock god. His voice... it’s like he’s singing directly to your soul
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
It’s like he’s screaming into my ears, actually. My parents have his latest album on loop downstairs. I can’t even hear my own thoughts. Anyway, I have to go. My dad is calling me
[Scene: The Living Room]
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
(Walking down the stairs) "Dad, if this is about those concert tickets, I already told you I’m not going."
...
...
It’s not about the concert, Keira. Sit down. Our neighbors, the Grahams, are coming over tonight. They’re bringing their son, Arthur.
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
Wait... why? Is this that 'arrangement' you and Mom kept whispering about?"
...
...
He’s a very sweet boy, darling. Stable, kind, and he comes from a wonderful family."
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
"I’m twenty! This is 2026, not 1826! I’m not being 'married off' like a piece of property!"
...
...
You’ll show some respect. It’s just a meeting. But I expect you to be open-minded."
[Scene: 20 minutes later. The doorbell rings. Arthur enters behind his parents. He’s wearing a thick, cream-colored knitted sweater. He looks pale and avoids eye contact, looking more like a nervous student than a suitor.]
...
...
Arthur, this is Keira. Keira, this is Arthur."
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
(Crossing her arms) "Hi.
arthur
arthur
(Voice tiny and shy) "Hello, Keira. It’s... it’s very nice to meet you
...
...
Why don't you two go sit in the conservatory and talk for a bit? We have things to discuss with your parents, Arthur."
[Scene: The Conservatory. It’s quiet, and the moonlight is spilling through the glass.]
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
Look, Arthur, I don't know what your parents told you, but I’m not doing this. I’m going to be a researcher. I don’t have time for a husband, especially one I didn’t choose."
arthur
arthur
(Wringing his hands nervously) "I... I know. My father told me I had to come. I’m really sorry, Keira. I didn't want to make you uncomfortable."
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
Then tell them no! Tell them you don't like me
arthur
arthur
(Looking up with soft, watery eyes) "I don't want to lie... but I also don't want to trap you. I’m not a very brave person, but I can tell my father I’m not ready for this. I’ll take the blame. I’ll let them be angry with me instead of you."
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
(Softening, surprised by his lack of spine) "You’d really let your dad yell at you just to save me?
arthur
arthur
(Giving a small, shy smile) "I’m used to it. You have so much fire... I’d hate to see it go out because of a forced marriage. I’m a softie, really."
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
(Watching him, her heart skipping a beat in a way she didn't expect) "You’re... you’re actually really kind. Most guys are so arrogant. If it’s you... if you’re always this gentle... then maybe it’s not so bad. Fine. I’ll tell my dad I agree."
arthur
arthur
Really? You're sure?"
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
Yes. We’ll do it

[Scene: Arthur’s Apartment – Wedding Night]
The heavy oak door clicked shut, locking out the noise of the reception, the laughter of the guests, and the congratulations of their parents. The quiet of the apartment was sudden, almost suffocating. Keira stood in the center of the bedroom, her hands tightly gripping the silk of her white dress. The gold band on her finger felt incredibly heavy, a cold reminder that her life had officially changed.
Arthur walked into the room, loosening his silk tie. The shy, nervous boy from the conservatory seemed to have vanished the moment the rings were exchanged. His posture was different—straighter, more confident, almost imposing.

Finally. I thought your father’s friends would never leave
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
Yeah. It was a long day. I’m completely exhausted
arthur
arthur
You look beautiful, Keira. Truly. I told you before, I’m a lucky man."
He reached out, his fingers brushing against her shoulder, pulling the strap of her dress downward. Keira stiffened automatically, a sudden wave of panic hitting her chest. She stepped back slightly, her heart hammering against her ribs.
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
Arthur... wait. Can we just... sit down and talk for a minute?
arthur
arthur
Talk? Keira, it’s our wedding night. We’ve done all the talking for the last three months
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
I know, but... everything happened so fast. One minute I’m at university studying for finals, and the next I’m a wife. I'm only twenty, Arthur. Please... I’m still just a kid in so many ways. I need a little time."
Arthur’s face darkened instantly. The soft, gentle expression he always wore in front of her parents melted away, replaced by a cold, sharp glare that she had never seen before. The temperature in the room seemed to drop.

A kid? You weren't too much of a kid to sign the marriage certificate today."
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
(Blinking back tears, shocked by his tone) "Arthur, please don't be like this. I just mean... tonight is too much. I want to get to know you properly first. I'm scared
arthur

Scared of your own husband? Or is this an excuse? I’ve been patient, Keira. I played the nice, quiet boy your father wanted. But we are married now. You are my wife.
Keira(fl)
Keira(fl)
(Stepping back until her spine hit the wall) "Please... don't force me. Just give me a few days. Just to breathe.
Arthur stared at her for a long, silent moment. His fists clenched at his sides, his chest heaving with a sudden, volatile anger that made him look like a completely different person. The "softie" she thought she married was entirely gone.

(Spatting out the words with pure disgust) "Unbelievable. I didn't marry a wife; I married a child
Before she could say another word, Arthur turned on his heel. He stormed across the room, his heavy footsteps echoing loudly.

Arthur, wait—

BANG! The bedroom door slammed shut with so much force that the mirror on the wall rattled. Keira flinched, covering her face as the first tear finally spilled over her cheek. She sank down to the floor, her expensive wedding dress pooling around her, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
Outside the bedroom, she heard the front door of the apartment slam shut too. He was gone.
[Scene: The Street Outside – Midnight]
Keira didn't know how many hours had passed. She couldn't stay in that suffocating apartment. She had pulled a dark trench coat over her wedding gown, slipped into a pair of flat shoes, and run down to the street. The night air was freezing, biting at her cheeks, but she just needed to walk. She needed to escape the memory of Arthur's angry face.

run

[Scene: Arthur’s Apartment – Two Days Later]
The past forty-eight hours had been a living nightmare for Keira. Ever since Arthur had slammed the bedroom door and stormed out on their wedding night, the atmosphere in the apartment had been suffocatingly tense. He had returned the following morning acting cold, distant, and completely indifferent to her presence. The sweet, gentle boy who had promised to protect her from her father’s anger was officially gone, replaced by a stranger who barely looked her in the eye
Keira spent most of her time confined to the guest bedroom, her mind a chaotic blur. She kept thinking about her classes, her interrupted life, and—strangely—the piercing blue eyes of James McAvoy from that rainy midnight on the street. She hadn't told anyone about seeing the rockstar. It felt too surreal, like a hallucination brought on by her grief and exhaustion.
It was late in the afternoon when she finally decided to venture out of her room to get a glass of water. As she padded quietly down the carpeted hallway, she noticed the door to Arthur’s private study was cracked open.
From inside, she heard the low, murmuring tone of his voice. Normally, she would have kept walking, but something about his laugh made her freeze. It wasn't his usual polite, hesitant chuckle. It was sharp, arrogant, and filled with a cruel amusement.
Keira stepped closer to the door, her breath catching in her throat as she leaned in to eavesdrop.

I know, babe. I miss you too. You have no idea how unbearable it is being under the same roof as her

Keira’s hand flew to her mouth. Babe?

(Laughing coldly) "Are you seriously still jealous? I told you, the wedding night was a total bust anyway. She started crying, talking about how she’s 'just a kid' and needs time. I pretended to be furious, slammed the door, and came straight to your apartment, didn't I? I spent the rest of our wedding night in your bed, where I actually wanted to be."
A cold dread pooled in Keira's stomach. The room seemed to spin as the reality of his words crashed over her. He hadn't left because he was hurt or offended; he had left to go to his lover. He had been with another woman the very night they swore their vows.

Look, just be patient for a little longer. You know exactly why I had to go through with this. Her father owns half the prime real estate on the west side, and Keira is the sole inheritor. Once the marriage assets are legally merged next month, I'll have full signing authority over her trust fund
Keira felt the blood drain completely from her face. Her hands began to tremble so violently she had to press her shoulder against the wall to keep from collapsing. It was all a lie. The shy smiles, the cardigan, the "softie" persona—it was a calculated act to win over her traditional father and trap her into a legal contract.

As soon as the property transfer is finalized and the money is securely in my account, I’ll file for a quiet separation. She can keep her precious degree, and we can finally buy that villa in Spain. She’s completely clueless, babe. She actually thinks I’m too gentle to hurt her."
He chuckled again, a sound that made Keira's skin crawl with pure disgust.
The anger that suddenly ignited inside her was hotter than anything she had ever felt. She wanted to storm into the room, slap the phone out of his hand, and scream until her lungs burned. But as she looked down at her trembling fingers, a sudden wave of panic overtook her rage. If he was this calculating, what would he do if he caught her listening? He had legal control over her now as her husband. She was trapped.
Grabbing her trench coat and throwing her phone into her purse, Keira unlocked the window leading to the fire escape. She didn't care where she went; she just knew she had to run.
