Project: Love-Hate — Part 1: The Morning Battle

"I like you!"

The morning sunlight streaming through the classroom window hadn't yet reached the desk when Rin heard this strange voice. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and closed her notebook, staring at the boy standing in front of her.

Len stood in front of her. His hair was disheveled as usual, the top button of his shirt was open, and he had the kind of smile that annoyed Rin the most.

"Len, it's exactly 8:00 in the morning. Have you lost your mind?" Rin asked, her voice as firm as possible.

"I'm absolutely serious, Rin! Today's horoscope said I should confess my feelings," Len said, taking a step forward, holding a small packet of strawberry milk that he left on Rin's desk every day.

"I hate your strawberry milk. I hate your weird smile. And most of all... I hate you!" Rin practically shouted, standing up from his bench.

The rest of the class, who had been silently watching the drama, began whispering. This was nothing new to them. This love-hate game between Len and Rin had been going on for the entire semester. Len pursued Rin at every opportunity, and Rin rejected him with equal intensity every time.

"Hey, man, why are you acting so cold?" Len asked, scratching his head, but there was a twinkle in his eye. "You looked so peaceful and sweet when you were sleeping in the library yesterday."

Rin's face flushed with anger (or maybe a little embarrassment). "You... you were watching me sleep?! You really are a weirdo!"

Just then, the class teacher entered and signaled everyone to their seats. Len glanced at Rin as he left, made a small heart with his fingers, and headed for his own seat.

Rin sat back in her chair. Her heart was still pounding—whether from anger or something else, she didn't know. She opened her notebook, but her attention wasn't focused on the blackboard. She looked at the strawberry milk on her desk.

"I hate this," she thought to herself. But still, she quietly dipped a straw into the strawberry milk and took a sip. It was sweet. Just like Len's strange smile.

Project: Love-Hate — Part 2: Lunchtime and a New Rival

The lunch bell rang, and the classroom erupted in commotion. Rin breathed a sigh of relief and took out her lunch box. She was trying to forget the awkward conversation from that morning, but then there was a commotion at the classroom door.

The home instructor (class teacher) entered with a new boy.

"Class, pay attention. This is Reo. He's part of our class from today."

Reo was tall, his hair neatly combed, and his glasses enhanced his serious look. He looked like a perfect, promising student. The girls in the class whispered at him.

"Reo, you can sit in the empty seat next to Rin," the teacher gestured.

Reo smiled and walked towards Rin. He put down his bag and extended his hand to Rin, "Hello, my name is Reo. I hope we'll become good friends."

Rin smiled and shook his hand, "Hello, I'm Rin. If you need any help with your studies, let me know."

They had just begun talking when suddenly a tiffin box landed between them. It was Len. He stood between Reo and Rin as if it were a wall. The morning's playfulness in his eyes was gone, replaced by a strange irritation.

"Hey, new guy, I'm Len. The most popular boy in this class. And yes... Rin doesn't need anyone's help, he's already busy enough," Len said, crossing his arms.

Reo looked Len up and down, pushed up his glasses, and said in a calm voice, "I didn't think Rin was your property. Are you two in a relationship?"

Rin's face turned red at this direct question. "Absolutely not!" she yelled. "Len, go back to your seat and stop bothering me!"

Len didn't like Rin's indifference, especially in front of Reo. "Okay, I'm leaving. But Rin, you have to come with me to the café this evening. I already made plans," Len said, a bit possessively.

"When did I say yes?!" Rin called out from behind, but Len had already left the class, waving his hand.

Reo looked at Rin and asked in a low voice, "Does he always bother you like this? If you want, I can talk to the teacher."

Rin looked at the empty strawberry milk packet on her desk, the one she had drunk that morning. He told Reo, "No... it's just his habit. He's just a total idiot."

Even though Rin had called Len a fool, Reo noticed that there was no hatred for Len in Rin's eyes. The game was about to get more interesting, as Len had to work a little harder to save his spot.

episode 3

Project: Love-Hate — Part 3: Cafe Drama and Unknown Feelings

It was 5:00 p.m. Rin stood outside the cafe, repeatedly checking her watch. She was angry with herself for having come despite Len's refusal.

"Sorry for being late, Rin!" Len ran in, panting. He had a small bag in his hand, which he immediately extended to Rin.

"What is this?" Rin asked, frowning.

"Open it!" Len said with a wide smile. As Rin looked inside the bag, her eyes lit up. It contained the latest volume of the manga she'd been looking for for weeks and which was out of stock everywhere.

"How did you... how did you get this?" Rin asked, her anger evaporating.

"I went to three different bookstores last night," Len said proudly, placing his hand on his chest. "I'd do anything to make you happy."

Rin's heart raced for a moment. Len was as annoying as he was sometimes, and at times, he could be equally caring. Before she could say anything, a familiar voice came from behind.

"Hey, Rin? You here?"

They both turned around and saw Reo standing there. He was dressed casually and looked very well-dressed, as always.

"Reo! What are you doing here?" Rin asked.

"I often come to this café in the evenings to study. Can I join you two?" Reo asked, smiling.

Len's face immediately fell. "Absolutely not. This is our—" Before Len could finish his sentence, Rin interrupted him, "Yes, Reo, why not! Let's sit together." Rin actually wanted to tease Len a little more.

The atmosphere inside the café had become quite interesting. Len and Reo were sitting across from each other, and it was as if there was a war going on between their eyes.

"So, Rin, do you like reading manga? I love the classics too," Reo began, discussing studies and books with Rin. Rin was responding with interest.

Len felt completely ignored. He was chewing angrily on the straw of his cold coffee. Suddenly, he moved his chair forward and smeared a bit of the cake cream Rin had just eaten on Rin's cheek with his finger.

"Len! What's this rudeness?!" Rin yelled in shock.

"You got something on your cheek, I just cleaned it up," Len said innocently, but his eyes were fixed on Reo. He licked his finger and smiled, "Sweet."

Reo clenched his fists, while Rin's entire face turned tomato red. He didn't know whether to slap Len or run away. But one thing was clear—Len's childish and possessive behavior had created a strange stir within Rin.
