I Love You
Chapter 1
Veronica Wells had spent exactly three months trying to forget the most humiliating moment of her life.
Three months since she stood outside the engineering building in the pouring rain, hands shaking around a stupid confession letter she’d rewritten six times.
Three months since Alex Carlson looked at her with mild confusion and said
Alex Carlson (ml)
Sorry… do I know you?
When his friends asked who she was afterward, he had shrugged and said
Not cruelly.
Not mockingly.
Which somehow hurt more.
Because Veronica had loved him quietly for almost a year.
The star basketball player.
Top of his class.
Campus golden boy.
The guy professors adored and girls practically lined up for.
And he hadn’t even remembered her face
So Veronica did what any sane person would do.
She avoided him like the plague.
Until Valentine Scott arrived.
Valentine was impossible not to notice.
Tall. Gorgeous. Sharp-tongued. Effortlessly confident in a way that made people stare whenever she walked into a room. She transferred mid-semester and ended up becoming Veronica’s new roommate after a housing mix-up.
To Veronica’s annoyance, they clicked instantly.
And to Veronica’s absolute horror
Alex Carlson noticed her too.
Chapter 2
It happened in Advanced Biochemistry.
Veronica was half asleep, scribbling notes, while Valentine leaned back lazily beside her, twirling a pen between her fingers.
Then the classroom door opened.
Alex walked in late.
The professor glared.
Every girl in class looked up.
Alex ignored all of them.
Until his eyes landed on Valentine.
He stopped walking.
Actually stopped walking.
Veronica noticed immediately because Alex Carlson never lost composure.
But now?
He looked distracted.
Interested.
Gone.
Valentine raised an eyebrow at the staring stranger.
Valentine Scott
Why is Captain America looking at me like that?
Veronica nearly choked.
Because she knew that look.
It was the same one she used to have whenever Alex entered a room.
And apparently karma hated her.
Veronica Wells (fl)
I don’t know
Alex then walked to a desk nearby and sat
But his focus was wholly on valentine , but she was oblivious focusing on the class
But veronica noticed him looking at valentine
And accidentally made eye contact with him
But Alex did not even giver her a glance
And that made her more sad
Chapter 3
Three days later, Veronica walked out of the library carrying a stack of notes when someone stepped directly into her path.
Alex Carlson.
Up close, he looked unfairly good. Dark hair falling over his forehead, varsity jacket slung over one shoulder, blue eyes fixed directly on her.
Veronica’s pulse immediately betrayed her.
She tightened her grip on the books.
Alex frowned slightly, like her hostility surprised him.
Alex Carlson (ml)
I need a favor
Veronica Wells (fl)
Ask someone else
She tried to walk around him.
He moved with her.
Alex Carlson (ml)
It’s about your roommate
Veronica froze.
Of course it was.
Alex rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly
Alex Carlson (ml)
Valentine Scott?
The irony nearly killed her.
Because he remembered Valentine’s full name after seeing her twice.
But not Veronica’s.
Not the girl who confessed to him.
Not the girl who cried in a bathroom stall for an hour after he rejected her.
Veronica swallowed hard.
Veronica Wells (fl)
What about her?
Alex Carlson (ml)
I want to talk to her
She laughed once.
A sharp, humorless sound.
Alex Carlson (ml)
And you’re always with her
Veronica Wells (fl)
I’m not helping you get a girlfriend.
Alex Carlson (ml)
It’s not like that
Alex Carlson (ml)
Look, I just want an introduction
Veronica Wells (fl)
And I want a million dollars
She pushed past him this time.
But Alex followed again.
Alex Carlson (ml)
I’ll owe you
Veronica Wells (fl)
I don’t care
Alex Carlson (ml)
I’ll literally do anything
That made her stop.
Because unfortunately…
Veronica Wells was academically screwed.
She had failed molecular pharmacology.
One failed subject meant losing her scholarship if she didn’t pass the makeup exam in two weeks.
And Alex Carlson
The genius golden boy she unfortunately still liked
Had scored the highest grade in class.
Alex noticed the exact second her expression changed
His eyes narrowed slightly
Alex Carlson (ml)
You do want something
Veronica hated that he was observant.
Slowly, she turned around.
Veronica Wells (fl)
You’ll tutor me for the makeup exam
Alex Carlson (ml)
That’s it?
Veronica Wells (fl)
You say that now because you didn’t see my score
A laugh escaped him unexpectedly.
God.
Even his laugh was attractive.
How annoying.
Alex Carlson (ml)
You help me with Valentine, I help you pass.
Veronica crossed her arms
Veronica Wells (fl)
And if I fail?
Alex Carlson (ml)
You won’t
Veronica Wells (fl)
You sound very confident
Veronica Wells (fl)
And if I decide halfway through that I hate you?
Alex smiled then.
A real smile.
Soft.
Crooked.
Dangerously pretty.
Alex Carlson (ml)
Pretty sure you already do
If only he knew.
Veronica looked away first.
Veronica Wells (fl)
Two weeks
Veronica Wells (fl)
That’s the deal
Alex held out his hand.
She stared at it for a second before reluctantly shaking.
The moment their hands touched, her heart did something deeply embarrassing.
And Alex
Alex looked strangely distracted for a second too.
Neither of them noticed Valentine Scott watching from the second-floor balcony above.
With a very interested smile on her face
