Rain poured heavily over the small village of Ashara.
Thunder shook the sky as 16-year-old Rin Kael carried firewood through the muddy streets. The villagers moved away whenever he passed. Some whispered under their breath while others stared at him with fear.
“That cursed boy…”
Rin pretended not to hear them.
Ever since his father disappeared five years ago, strange things had happened around him. Mirrors cracked when he got angry. Animals refused to go near him. And every night, he heard the sound of heavy chains dragging through darkness in his dreams.
In this world, warriors used a mysterious energy called Chain Force. It allowed fighters to create glowing chains around their bodies and weapons. Strong emotions strengthened the power. Anger created destructive attacks, while calmness improved defense and control.
But beyond Chain Force existed something far more dangerous.
The power of the Dragon Souls.
Ancient legends claimed dragons once ruled the earth before humanity sealed them away using the Seven Dragon Seals. Their souls were imprisoned forever… or so people believed.
Only a few humans could survive bonding with a dragon soul.
Those people were feared as Dragon Hosts.
That night, Rin finished delivering firewood to the village shop when the warning bell suddenly rang across Ashara.
DONG! DONG! DONG!
The peaceful village instantly fell into panic.
“Bandits are here!”
Men dressed in black armor stormed through the streets with chained weapons glowing red from Chain Force. Flaming arrows shot across the sky as houses burst into flames.
Screams filled the village.
Rin ran toward the chaos and spotted a little girl trapped beneath broken wood near a burning house.
“Don’t move!” he shouted.
Ignoring the flames, Rin pulled the heavy wood away and grabbed her hand. Before he could escape, a powerful force slammed him into the ground.
A tall armored soldier stood over him.
The man’s eyes focused on the strange necklace around Rin’s neck — a black dragon wrapped in chains.
The soldier froze.
“After all these years… we finally found him.”
Rin stared in confusion.
“What are you talking about?”
The soldier slowly pulled out a massive chained sword glowing with dark red energy.
“By order of the Black Fang Order… eliminate the Dragon Vessel.”
Rin’s eyes widened.
The sword came crashing down—
BOOOOOOOM!!!
A violent explosion of black energy erupted from Rin’s body.
Dark chains burst from the ground and destroyed the street around him. The soldiers stumbled backward in fear.
“Impossible…!”
Rin clutched his chest as his necklace glowed brightly. The air suddenly became cold and silent.
Everything around him froze.
Then a deep voice echoed inside his mind.
“You finally awakened me…”
Rin looked around in terror.
“Who are you?!”
The darkness behind him slowly opened like a giant gate.
Two enormous glowing eyes appeared.
Massive chains stretched endlessly across the sky.
Then a gigantic black dragon emerged from the shadows. Its body was covered in broken seals and ancient chains.
“I am Zephryx…”
The dragon lowered its head and smiled.
“The Chained Dragon.”
Dark markings spread across Rin’s arm like scales as overwhelming power flooded his body.
The First Dragon Seal had begun to break.
The ground cracked beneath his feet.
The soldiers panicked.
“He’s awakening! Run!”
Zephryx’s voice echoed once more.
“Tell me, Rin Kael…”
The dragon’s crimson eyes glowed brightly in the darkness.
“Shall we destroy them all?”
Rin slowly raised his head.
His eyes now burned with a dark crimson light.
The village of Ashara burned beneath the stormy sky.
Flames spread across rooftops while terrified villagers ran through the streets screaming. Smoke filled the air as members of the Black Fang Order surrounded the center of the village.
But no one moved closer to Rin Kael.
Dark chains twisted around his body like living creatures. Crimson energy flowed through the cracks in the ground beneath him.
The soldiers stared in fear.
“That pressure…”
“It’s really a Dragon Host…”
Rin could barely breathe.
His heart pounded violently as strange power flooded through his body. His right arm was now covered in black scale-like markings, and his vision flickered between the burning village and a strange world of endless darkness.
Then the dragon’s voice echoed again.
“Give me control.”
Rin clenched his fists.
“No.”
The giant black dragon behind him narrowed its glowing eyes.
“If you hesitate, they will kill you.”
The Black Fang captain slowly stepped forward, gripping his chained sword tightly. Red Chain Force burned around the weapon.
“Do not fear him!” the captain shouted.
“The First Seal has only partially opened!”
The soldiers regained courage and charged together.
Dozens of glowing chains shot toward Rin from every direction.
Instinctively, Rin raised his hand.
BOOOOM!
Black chains exploded from the ground and smashed into the attackers, throwing them through burning buildings.
The villagers watched in shock.
Rin stared at his own hands.
“What… did I just do?”
The dragon laughed deeply.
“This is merely a fragment of my power.”
Suddenly, pain shot through Rin’s body.
He fell to one knee, struggling to control the energy surging inside him. Dark smoke rose from his skin as the black markings spread farther across his chest.
The captain saw the weakness immediately.
“Now!”
The Black Fang soldiers attacked again.
One soldier appeared behind Rin and swung a chain blade toward his neck.
CLANG!
A wall of black chains blocked the attack instantly.
Rin looked up in surprise.
Standing in front of him was an old man wearing a torn gray cloak.
His body was surrounded by silver Chain Force.
The old man sighed.
“Using dragon power this early… troublesome.”
The soldiers stepped back nervously.
The captain’s eyes widened.
“You… you’re a Chain Keeper!”
The old man slowly removed his hood, revealing a scar across his left eye.
“Name’s Kaien.”
Without warning, Kaien slammed his hand into the ground.
Silver chains burst across the battlefield like lightning, wrapping around several Black Fang soldiers instantly.
CRACK!
The chains tightened and smashed them into the ground.
The remaining soldiers panicked.
“Retreat!”
“Fall back!”
But the captain remained still.
His eyes locked onto Rin.
“The Black Fang Order will never stop hunting you, Dragon Vessel.”
He pointed his sword toward Rin.
“Because the Chained Dragon must never fully awaken.”
The captain threw a smoke bomb onto the ground.
BOOM!
Dark smoke covered the battlefield.
When it cleared, the Black Fang Order had vanished.
Only burning ruins remained.
Rain continued falling softly over the destroyed village.
Rin collapsed from exhaustion.
The black chains around him slowly disappeared.
The dragon’s voice faded.
“You are still weak…”
“But soon… the next seal will break.”
Darkness consumed Rin completely.
Rin opened his eyes slowly.
He found himself inside a small wooden cabin surrounded by candlelight.
His body ached terribly.
“You’re awake,” a voice said.
Kaien sat near the window calmly drinking tea.
Rin immediately stood up.
“The village!”
Kaien’s expression darkened.
“Destroyed.”
Rin froze.
“What about the people?”
“Some survived.”
“Many didn’t.”
Silence filled the cabin.
Rain tapped softly against the windows.
Rin looked down at the black markings still visible on his arm.
“What am I?”
Kaien stared at him carefully.
“A Dragon Host.”
“The rarest and most feared existence in the world.”
Rin’s chest tightened.
“The dragon… Zephryx… is real?”
Kaien nodded slowly.
“Thousands of years ago, seven Dragon Kings nearly destroyed humanity.”
“To stop them, warriors known as the Chain Keepers sealed their souls away using the Seven Dragon Seals.”
He pointed toward Rin’s necklace.
“But somehow… the soul of the Chained Dragon was sealed inside you.”
Rin remembered the dragon’s enormous crimson eyes.
“Why me?”
Kaien remained silent for a moment.
“Because your father chose it.”
Rin’s eyes widened instantly.
“You knew my father?!”
Before Kaien could answer, a loud explosion shook the forest outside.
BOOOOM!
The cabin trembled violently.
Kaien immediately stood up.
“They found us already…”
Rin heard screams outside.
Kaien grabbed his chain weapon from the wall — a silver spear wrapped in glowing chains.
“Listen carefully,” Kaien said.
“The Black Fang Order serves someone far more dangerous than ordinary humans.”
Another explosion blasted through the trees.
A deep voice echoed outside.
“Bring me the Dragon Vessel.”
Heavy footsteps approached slowly.
Kaien’s face darkened.
“An Executor…”
Rin stepped outside behind Kaien.
The forest ahead was burning.
Standing among the flames was a massive man covered in black armor. Giant chains hung from his shoulders like serpents.
His eyes glowed red.
The pressure from his Chain Force alone cracked the ground beneath him.
The armored man smiled coldly.
“So this is the boy carrying Zephryx.”
Rin’s body trembled.
The dragon’s voice suddenly echoed once more inside his mind.
For the first time, Zephryx sounded serious.
“Run.”
“You cannot defeat this one.”
The armored man slowly raised a gigantic chained axe onto his shoulder.
“My name is Darius… Executor of the Black Fang.”
“And tonight, boy…”
“I will rip the dragon out of your body.”
Lightning flashed across the sky.
Kaien tightened his grip on his spear.
Rin felt dark energy rising inside him once again.
And deep within the darkness…
The First Seal continued to crack.
The underground prison of the Iron Kingdom had no true name. The hunters called it “The Vault,” but the creatures trapped inside knew it as something worse—the place where souls were turned into weapons.
Deep beneath miles of stone and iron, Kael knelt in silence.
Chains covered his body like a second skin. Each link was carved with glowing red runes that pulsed in rhythm with his heartbeat. Every pulse stole a little more of his strength, feeding it into the empire above. His wings, once proud and burning with crimson fire, were now pinned tightly against his back, unable to move.
He had been captured three days ago. Or maybe longer. Time didn’t matter down here. Only pain did.
Across from his cage stood the boy.
He was still there.
Kael lifted his head slowly, golden eyes dim but burning with hatred. “You’re still here,” he muttered.
The boy nodded. “I said I wouldn’t leave.”
Kael let out a bitter laugh. “Humans always say that. Then they sell us. Or break us. Or use us until nothing is left.”
The chains reacted instantly. A surge of electricity ran through his body, forcing him to his knees. Kael growled in pain, claws scraping the stone floor.
The boy didn’t move. He just watched calmly, as if studying something only he could see.
“My name is Lio,” he said again. “And I’m not here to control you.”
Kael’s breathing was heavy. “Then why are you here?”
Lio hesitated for a moment before answering. “Because I can hear them.”
For a second, the air changed.
Kael frowned. “Hear what?”
Before Lio could respond, a faint whisper filled the chamber. It wasn’t spoken—it was felt. A broken echo, like voices trapped inside metal.
Kael’s eyes widened slightly. “That voice…”
More whispers joined it. Dozens. Then hundreds.
Lio placed his hand near the chains but did not touch them yet. “Every dragon they bind gets absorbed into the system. Their souls don’t die. They’re used.”
Kael shook his head. “That’s impossible.”
But even as he said it, he heard them clearer.
Screaming.
Not in pain exactly—but in endless awareness. Awareness trapped in silence.
Kael’s jaw tightened. “They’re inside the chains…”
Lio nodded. “And the empire uses them to power weapons, shields, even cities. Dragons aren’t just hunted here. They’re harvested.”
A deep silence followed.
Then Kael’s voice dropped lower. “Then I’ll burn this kingdom to ash.”
For a brief moment, something inside him reacted. A spark ignited beneath his chest. His scales glowed faintly red, and the chains trembled.
But the reaction triggered the seals. The runes flared brighter, suppressing the flame immediately. Kael gasped as pain surged through him, forcing him flat against the ground.
Lio stepped closer to the cage.
“You’re fighting it the wrong way,” he said quietly.
Kael growled weakly. “There is no right way.”
“I think there is,” Lio replied.
He finally reached forward—and placed his hand directly on the chain.
The moment his skin made contact, everything changed.
The runes flickered.
The prison trembled faintly.
Kael froze. “What did you just do?”
Lio looked surprised too. “I didn’t expect that…”
Inside Kael’s mind, the whispers suddenly grew louder. Not chaotic this time—but focused. Like something had noticed Lio.
The chains… were responding to him.
Kael stared at him. “You shouldn’t be able to touch that.”
Lio frowned. “Why?”
“Because those chains don’t just bind bodies,” Kael said slowly. “They bind souls.”
A sudden roar echoed from deeper inside the prison. Alarms blared in the distance. Red lights flashed across the stone walls.
Footsteps thundered down the corridor.
Lio pulled his hand back. “They noticed us.”
Kael’s eyes narrowed. “Good.”
Heavy armored figures emerged from the shadows. Beast hunters of the Iron Kingdom. Their armor was black steel layered with glowing anti-dragon seals. Each carried weapons forged from dragon bone and cursed iron.
Their leader stepped forward.
“Subject K-7 is unstable,” he said coldly. “And the anomaly is confirmed. Terminate both.”
Kael’s lips curled. “Try it.”
But before he could move, the chains tightened violently. His body locked in place again, forcing him to his knees.
Lio stepped forward instinctively, placing himself between Kael and the hunters.
The lead hunter laughed. “A child protecting a dragon? How poetic.”
He raised his spear.
The weapon hummed with energy, reacting to Kael’s presence.
“Move aside,” the hunter ordered.
Lio didn’t.
The spear shot forward.
Time seemed to slow.
Kael’s eyes widened—but he couldn’t move.
Then—
CRACK.
A sound echoed through the chamber.
One of the runes on Kael’s chain fractured.
Just one.
But it was enough.
A pulse of energy erupted from Kael’s body, shaking the entire prison. The chains loosened slightly, just for a second.
Kael felt it.
Freedom.
His eyes burned bright gold.
“I remember…” he whispered.
The hunters staggered back. “Impossible!”
Kael’s flames surged.
A burst of fire exploded from his body, shattering two chains instantly. The shockwave blasted the hunters across the room.
Stone cracked. Iron melted. The prison shook violently.
Lio covered his face, sliding backward from the force. “He’s awakening it…”
Kael rose slowly, flames circling his body like living serpents. His wings stretched open for the first time since capture, tearing part of the chains apart.
“I remember what they did,” Kael said, voice deeper now.
The hunters regrouped, fear creeping into their movements.
“This is impossible,” one whispered. “The chains are unbreakable.”
Kael tilted his head slightly. “Nothing is unbreakable.”
He clenched his fist.
“And I am not your weapon.”
Another explosion of fire erupted, breaking more chains. Screams echoed from deeper cells as other imprisoned creatures awakened from the resonance of Kael’s flame.
The prison was collapsing.
But suddenly—
Kael stopped.
His flames flickered.
Something was still holding him.
One chain remained.
Around his heart.
It pulsed black instead of red.
Kael gasped, clutching his chest. Pain unlike anything before surged through him.
“This one… is different…”
From the shadows, a new presence entered.
Silence fell instantly.
A woman stepped forward, her armor white and radiant, untouched by soot or rust. The air around her felt heavier, as if reality itself bent slightly in her presence.
The hunters immediately dropped to one knee.
“Commander Seraphine,” they whispered.
Kael growled. “Move.”
Seraphine ignored him and studied him calmly.
“So this is the Chained Dragon,” she said softly. “You’ve already broken the outer seals.”
Kael struggled against the heart chain. “I will kill you.”
She tilted her head. “No, you won’t.”
She raised her hand slightly.
The heart chain activated instantly.
Kael froze mid-motion, locked in place completely. His flames vanished.
Lio’s eyes widened. “Kael!”
Seraphine walked closer.
“That chain is not like the others,” she said. “It doesn’t bind your body. It binds your origin.”
Kael gritted his teeth. “What… did you do to me?”
Seraphine stopped in front of him.
“You were never meant to be free,” she said calmly. “You were meant to open the gate.”
Kael’s pupils shrank.
Lio shouted, “Don’t listen to her!”
But Seraphine continued.
“The empire doesn’t fear dragons,” she said. “It controls them. And you, Kael… you are the key to the Dragon Gate.”
The prison stopped collapsing.
Everything went still again.
Kael’s flames were gone.
Only darkness remained.
In his mind, a voice echoed—not Lio’s, not Seraphine’s.
His own voice.
“You belong to the empire.”
Kael’s eyes trembled.
“No…”
Lio clenched his fists tightly. “That’s not you.”
Seraphine turned away.
“Take him.”
The hunters advanced.
But suddenly—
Lio stepped forward and grabbed the heart chain.
Everyone froze.
Even Seraphine.
Lio whispered, “I hear them too.”
The chain flickered.
For the first time since Kael’s capture… it hesitated.
