The Lost Soul (chapter-1)
The Lost Soul
A Novel of Love, Loss, and Eternity
Prologue
The rain fell like forgotten memories upon the city of Nocthollow.
Every streetlamp flickered weakly through the mist, and every passerby walked with hurried feet, unaware that somewhere among them wandered a soul already half dead.
His name was Elias Vale.
He lived like a ghost long before death ever touched him.
People often mistook silence for peace, but Elias knew silence could scream louder than thunder. He carried loneliness the way old churches carried dust — quietly, endlessly, permanently.
There was once a girl who taught him otherwise.
A girl named Seraphine.
And this is the story of how love can survive even when the world does not.
Chapter One
The Boy Who Could Not Feel Spring
Elias first met Seraphine beneath a dying cherry blossom tree.
It was strange because spring had already arrived in Nocthollow, yet that one tree remained pale and barren, its branches empty against the silver sky.
He sat beneath it every evening after work, sketching faces he never finished.
That night, he heard humming.
A soft melody.
Not joyful.
Not sad.
Something in between.
He looked up and saw her standing near the riverbank wearing a white coat too large for her shoulders. Her black hair danced wildly in the cold wind.
“You always draw unfinished eyes,” she said.
Elias frowned. “What?”
She pointed toward his notebook.
“Your drawings. You never finish the eyes.”
No one had ever noticed before.
He closed the notebook slowly.
“Maybe I don’t know what they’re supposed to see.”
The girl smiled faintly.
“Or maybe you’re afraid they’ll see you.”
For the first time in years, Elias felt his heartbeat stumble.

Chapter Two
A Soul Made of Winter
Seraphine became part of his life quietly.
Like snowfall.
Slow at first.
Then suddenly everywhere.
She appeared during his evening walks, during lonely coffees at midnight diners, during silent train rides where neither of them spoke much.
Yet with her, silence felt alive.
She had a habit of asking strange questions.
“If memories disappear after death, then why does love hurt forever?”
“Do lonely people recognize each other instinctively?”
“If souls exist… do they grow tired too?”
Elias never knew how to answer.
But he listened.
And somehow, listening became loving.
One evening, while wandering through empty cathedral ruins outside the city, Seraphine suddenly stopped walking.
“Elias,” she whispered, “promise me something.”
“What is it?”
“If I disappear someday… don’t let your heart disappear with me.”
He laughed softly.
“You talk like someone planning to vanish.”
Her expression darkened.
“Maybe everyone is vanishing slowly.”
The wind echoed through broken stained glass.
And for a brief moment, Elias felt afraid.

Chapter Three
The Letter Never Sent
Winter arrived early that year.
Snow buried the streets.
The city turned white and silent.
Then Seraphine stopped coming.
Days passed.
Then weeks.
No messages.
No explanations.
Elias searched everywhere.
The riverside.
The café where she drank bitter tea.
The cathedral ruins.
Nothing.
Until one night, the old café owner handed him an envelope.
“She left this for you.”
His hands trembled as he opened it.
Inside was a letter written in fading ink.
Elias,
If you are reading this, then fate has already stolen me from your reach.
I wanted to stay.
God, I wanted to stay.
But some souls are born already broken, already temporary.
You once asked me why I smiled even when I looked sad.
It’s because loving you was the only beautiful thing my life ever gave me.
Do not search for me.
You will only lose yourself too.
And if souls truly meet again after death…
find me beneath the blossom tree.
— Seraphine
Elias read the letter until the ink blurred beneath tears.
Outside, snow continued falling endlessly.
As if heaven itself mourned with him.
