FATHER-IN-LAW | TAEKOOK

| A STRANGER IN HIS OWN HOME |

NovelToon
The morning sunlight streaming through the window highlighted the sleepy eyes of the man as he ruffled his messy black hair, the tangled locks sticking out in every direction. He took a seat at the dining table and glanced around the room before offering his usual greeting, his voice low and husky.
Jungkook
Jungkook
Good morning.
He already knew no one would answer, but he said it anyway. The words were a habitual greeting that brought a sense of normalcy to his mornings.
Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he gazed over at his daughter, her face aglow with the light from her phone as she ate her pasta. His wife, Yuna, stood at the counter, still in her nightwear, making sandwiches for herself, the soft clinking of the knife against the plate filling the silence.
Jungkook knew that, once again, no one had made him any breakfast, but it was a usual occurrence, one that no longer affected him as much as it used to.
Yuna
Yuna
I thought you were dead, considering how late you woke up today.
Yuna said, sitting down in the dining chair, a hint of amusement dancing in her voice.
Jungkook chuckled softly as he rose from his chair and poured himself a glass of water. He took a few slow sips before returning to his seat, the cool liquid soothing his dry throat.
Jungkook
Jungkook
I was a little tired yesterday. That's why I overslept.
Jungkook explained, earning a roll of Yuna's eyes. Her expression was a perfect blend of exasperation and annoyance, prompting him to let out a deep sigh.
Theirs was an arranged marriage, one that had been almost forced upon them. At the time, Yuna was in love with another man, a fact Jungkook had been completely unaware of. As a result, she spent years taking out her frustration on him, blaming him for the life she believed he had taken away from her.
But it wasn't his fault.
He had opposed the marriage from the very beginning, citing his age. After all, he had been only nineteen at the time, while Yuna was twenty-three.
Yet none of that seemed to matter.
Years later, Yuna still held him responsible for her unhappiness.
Now, as he sat at the dining table, Jungkook couldn't help but feel as though his life was stuck in limbo. Every day felt the same—going through the motions without any real purpose or direction.
He felt like a ship without a rudder, drifting aimlessly across the ocean.
Jungkook
Jungkook
Iseul, I got a call from your college.
Jungkook said, his voice breaking the silence.
Jungkook
Jungkook
They informed me that you failed your exams and will have to repeat the semester.
He took a sip of water, his eyes fixed on his daughter, who didn't even bother looking up from her phone.
Iseul's hand slammed against the table, making both her parents flinch at the sudden outburst.
Iseul
Iseul
So what?
She snapped, finally lifting her head.
Iseul
Iseul
Are you telling me to study? And with what right?
Her eyes blazed with defiance.
Iseul
Iseul
Just pay them whatever they want. I'm not repeating the semester!
Jungkook opened his mouth to respond, but before he could utter a single word, Iseul stormed out of the house, leaving a trail of tension in her wake.
Yuna turned to him, fury flashing in her eyes.
Yuna
Yuna
Are you happy now?
She demanded, turning on him as though he were the one at fault.
Yuna
Yuna
She didn't even finish her breakfast because of you. Can you do anything other than ruin everyone's mood?
Her voice echoed through the room as she pushed back her chair and stormed toward their bedroom.
Jungkook lowered his gaze, a weary sigh escaping his lips.
Somehow, everything always ended up being his fault.
He sat there for a moment, staring at the half-empty glass in front of him before finally pushing back his chair and getting to his feet.
Jungkook stepped into their bedroom, his gaze immediately landing on Yuna. She was busy getting ready, expertly styling her hair and applying her makeup in front of the vanity mirror. He didn't bother asking where she was going. Over the years, he had learned that it was none of his business.
Instead, he quietly made his way to the bathroom, hoping to get ready for work without drawing attention to himself. The last thing he needed was another lecture from his boss for being late. More importantly, he had no desire to spark yet another argument with Yuna.
Another day had begun.
And just like every other day, he would face it alone.

| THE LAST ORDINARY DAY |

Hayun draped an arm over Iseul's shoulder, a mischievous glint dancing in her eyes.
Hayun
Hayun
Are you failing?
She asked with barely concealed amusement.
Iseul
Iseul
Doesn't matter. I'll pass one way or another.
Iseul shrugged carelessly, as though the possibility of failing didn't concern her in the slightest.
Hayun
Hayun
You're lucky. I wish I could pass without studying. Your dad is so handsome it's almost unfair.
Iseul let out a short laugh, though there was more irritation than amusement in it.
Iseul
Iseul
He's just an old hag. He can't do a single thing right, you know.
She had heard countless compliments about Jungkook's good looks over the years, and every single one irritated her. She hated how he seemed capable of drawing everyone's attention without even being present.
Hayun
Hayun
Don't be so rude. He's still your dad.
Hayun chided, a hint of reprimand in her voice.
Hayun
Hayun
If he were single, I would've married him myself.
Iseul
Iseul
He's here! He's here!
Iseul's face lit up instantly, her entire demeanor transforming. The irritation from moments ago vanished, replaced by unmistakable excitement. She shot to her feet, her gaze fixed ahead, completely captivated by the most sought-after man on campus.
For the past year, Iseul had been trying to capture his attention, but as always, he seemed completely oblivious to her existence.
Iseul
Iseul
Hey, Tae!
Iseul called, waving her hand enthusiastically in an attempt to catch his attention.
Taehyung turned at the sound of his nickname. Their eyes met for a brief moment before he lifted a hand in acknowledgment and continued on his way with his friends, leaving Iseul staring after him with a wistful sigh.
Juwon
Juwon
She's obviously into you, Tae. Why don't you give her a chance?
Juwon asked, shoving his backpack into his locker before turning to Taehyung with a mischievous grin.
Taehyung
Taehyung
But I'm not interested.
Taehyung's response was immediate. He shut his locker with a quiet thud, his expression unreadable.
Minjun
Minjun
There are so many beautiful girls—and even guys—who are head over heels for you. Don't you like any of them?
Minjun chimed in as they made their way toward their first class. He flashed a grin at a passing student, who immediately blushed under the attention.
Taehyung
Taehyung
I don't even get hard looking at them nāked, you know.
Taehyung's expression remained impassive, his voice matter-of-fact.
As they entered the classroom, Siwoo's voice carried across the room.
Siwoo
Siwoo
Can you imagine everyone's reaction when they find out the college's most popular and handsome guy is still a vīrgīn? What a waste, right?
Their group was accustomed to being the center of attention, so the stares that followed them wherever they went were nothing new. As they made their way to their seats, they could hear girls squealing and giggling, their eyes fixed on them.
Taehyung
Taehyung
Just shut up, you hōe.
Taehyung rolled his eyes, thoroughly unimpressed. At that moment, Iseul entered the classroom, her gaze immediately finding him.
He was well aware of his good looks, but the constant attention irritated him nonetheless.
Iseul and her friends took the seats in front of their group, and before long, the classroom filled with the low murmur of students chatting among themselves.
The professor arrived shortly after, and another uneventful day began.
As the lecture dragged on, Taehyung found himself staring out the window. Every day felt exactly the same. Sometimes, he couldn't help but wonder when something interesting would finally happen in his life.
By the time the final bell rang, he was more than ready to leave.
Minjun turned to him with a mischievous grin.
Minjun
Minjun
Hey, Tae. Let's have a sleepover at your place tonight.
Taehyung
Taehyung
My dad's friend is coming over for dinner, so I don't think that'll work.
Minjun let out a disappointed groan.
Minjun
Minjun
Oof. Some other time, then.
Taehyung hummed in response and watched as his friends disappeared into the crowd.
Soon, he was alone.
Just the way he preferred it.
The walk home felt no different from any other day.
The same streets.
The same people.
The same routine.
Nothing ever changed.
At least, that's what Taehyung believed.
He shoved his hands into his pockets and continued walking home, completely unaware that this ordinary day was about to become the turning point of his life.
By the time the sun set, everything he thought he knew would be turned upside down.
And it would all begin with a single knock on his front door.

| STOLEN BREATH |

NovelToon
It was lunch break, and Jungkook's stomach was growling with hunger. He hadn't even had breakfast that morning, making his hunger pangs even worse.
Just then, he remembered his dinner plans with a friend. He still hadn't told his wife about them, and he knew he had to. Not that she would care much, but if she found out from someone else, she'd be furious.
Not wanting any trouble, Jungkook pulled out his phone and dialed her number.
Jungkook
Jungkook
Hello.
He said softly when she answered, trying to sound as casual as possible.
Yuna
Yuna
What do you want, Jungkook?
His wife replied, her tone neutral.
Jungkook hesitated before continuing.
Jungkook
Jungkook
I just wanted to let you know that I'll be coming home late today. I have dinner plans at a friend's place.
He waited anxiously for her response, already expecting a sharp remark.
Yuna
Yuna
Which friend? Is it a girl or a boy?
Jungkook
Jungkook
He's a guy. A good friend of mine.
Yuna
Yuna
How am I supposed to trust you? Listen carefully, Jeon Jungkook. I'm letting you go, but if you dare cheat on me, I'll cut your hands off.
Jungkook gulped, a shiver running down his spine.
Jungkook
Jungkook
I'd never cheat on you.
The denial came out faster than he intended.
Jungkook
Jungkook
Anyway, I'm going to have lunch now. Bye.
Yuna
Yuna
Yeah, yeah. Keep stuffing your face all day, and you'll turn into a pig.
Before he could respond, the call ended.
Jungkook stared at his phone for a moment before setting it down on the table and stretching his arms above his head.
A smile tugged at his lips at the mere thought of food.
He loved eating.
Maybe a little too much.
Still, he always made sure to watch his weight. After all, food tasted much better when you could enjoy it without regret.
With that thought in mind, he grabbed his wallet and headed toward the cafeteria, completely unaware that the rest of his day was about to become far more interesting than he expected.

Taehyung stepped out of the bathroom, his wet hair dripping with water, and the warm mist still swirling around his body. A loose towel was tucked around his slim waist, which he discarded into a laundry basket, revealing his toned physique.

He let out a sigh as he began dressing in casual attire—a black shirt and shorts. Just as he was finishing up, he heard his father calling for him from downstairs.
Taehyung made his way downstairs, where he saw his father, who had just arrived home from office earlier than usual. His father looked exhausted, and Taehyung could tell he was eager to take a shower.
Taehyung
Taehyung
Hey, Dad.
Taehyung said, greeting his father with a casual smile.
Wooshik offered his son a weary smile.
Woojin
Woojin
Hey, Tae. I'm going to take a quick shower. My friend will be arriving soon, so please make him comfortable in the living room and offer him some water. I'll be out shortly.
Taehyung
Taehyung
You go ahead. I'll take care of him.
Taehyung replied with a nod, though he wasn't particularly thrilled about entertaining his father's friend.
Wooshik's face lit up with a warm smile.
Woojin
Woojin
Thanks, son.
He then headed upstairs, leaving Taehyung alone in the living room.
Taehyung ran a hand through his damp hair before plopping down on the couch. He pulled out his phone and began scrolling through it, passing the time.
After a while, the doorbell rang, signaling the arrival of his father's friend. Taehyung tucked his phone into the pocket of his shorts and made his way to the front door, opening it with a click.
As Taehyung raised his eyes to look at the visitor, he forgot how to breathe for a second.
He blinked, taking in the sight of the man standing before him.
The black, fluffy hair perfectly complemented his handsome features, while warm eyes and a gentle smile softened his striking appearance.
NovelToon
The man looked far younger than Taehyung had expected, leaving him wondering if his father really had such divine friends.
