The Reason I Wore a White Coat

chapter 1 : school trip

The school trip was going to the verona fields..

Long fields and huge mountains passed by , students sat beside their friends enjoying views and playing games...it was early monsoon days!

The rain wasn't supposed to ruin the trip.

At least, that's what everyone had thought when the school buses left early that morning.

But halfway through the journey, Ariana's bus broke down on a lonely highway surrounded by hills and endless fields.

The students groaned.

"Great. Now we're stuck here for hours."

Ariana sighed and leaned her head against the window.

Then she noticed something across the road.

A small medical camp.

Doctors and volunteers moved between tents, treating villagers and handing out medicines.

Curious, she crossed the road with a few classmates.

That was when she saw him.

A boy around her age stood beside a doctor, organizing medical supplies with surprising confidence.

He looked up.

Their eyes met.

For a second, neither of them looked away.

"Need help finding something?" he asked with a smile.

Ariana suddenly forgot what she had come there for.

"No," she said quickly.

The boy laughed.

"Then I guess you're just looking around."

She didn't know it then.

She didn't know that years later she would still remember that smile.

Or that one conversation with a stranger would change the course of her entire life.

"What's your name?" she asked.

The boy held out his hand.

"Rayyan."

The named echoed in her mind...she didn't knew what and why was her heart beating fast she eventually let it down

The bus took long enough to get fixed students took a shelter near that medical camp some helping the doctors and some exploring the surroundings

Ariana sat on the bench still lost in her thoughts thinking about that boy whom she just met

she felt a presence beside her...she looked and her breath hitched...THE BOY was just beside her smiling while looking at her

His smile took Ariana's breath away...charming eyes that shine bright with his beautiful smile

Rayyan spoke "you asked my name but didn't told me your's...this isn't fair!"

"Ariana , Ariana D'Souza" she spoke in her almost panicked voice

"Ariana..." he repeated

Both sat in silence none of them spoke the view around them spoke the unspoken while ariana was still figuring out the reason behind her sudden heartrace

After few minutes gathering her courage ariana finally spoke

"what are you doing in a medical camp?"

"That doctor over there...the one who is treating that lady's wound is my father...Dr. Zayan ahmed"

he replied while smiling

Ariana moved her gaze to that person whom rayyan just pointed

"he is your father?" she spoke with her newfound respect towards the doctor

"yeah!..he took me here because of my interest towards the medicine field....I want to become a doctor like him"

His gaze was fixed towards his father looking at him with a smile

"i always wanted to become a doctor and when i heard that he is assigned for this medical camp i came with him-"

that's when a voice came from behind interrupting their conversation

"STUDENT'S THE BUS IS FIXED WE WILL MOVE AHEAD NOW!!!" the teacher spoke

The bus was fixed means she had to leave not wanting to leave but the situation was not with her...

"i have to leave...hope we will meet again bye" her eyes unknowingly sad and her heart heavy

"see you soon!" rayyan said

Both didn't know that they are really going to meet soon...

they both did a handshake and she left!

chapter 2: The first day

The bright morning sun reflected against the glass walls of City Heart Hospital as Ariana adjusted her white coat for what felt like the hundredth time.

After years of studying medicine, sleepless nights, and endless exams, she had finally become an intern doctor.

Yet her nervousness had nothing to do with the hospital.

It was because of him.

The boy she had met years ago during a school trip.

The boy whose smile had stayed in her memories long after everyone else had forgotten.

The boy who had inspired her to become a doctor.

She didn't even know if he remembered her.

"Dr. Ariana?" a nurse called.

"Y-Yes!"

"The orientation is starting."

Ariana quickly followed the nurse, trying to calm her racing heart.

Inside the conference room, several new interns were already seated. She found an empty chair and sat down.

The orientation continued normally until the door suddenly opened.

The room instantly fell silent.

A tall doctor walked inside wearing a navy-blue coat. His posture was confident, his expression calm and professional.

Ariana froze.

Her heart skipped a beat.

No.

It couldn't be.

But it was.

Dr. Rayyan Ahmed.

The same boy from that school trip.

The same eyes.

The same smile.

Only now he looked far more mature.

"Good morning, everyone," he said.

His voice sent a wave of memories crashing into her mind.

She couldn't hear anything else.

Years of dreams, hopes, and hard work suddenly felt real.

Meanwhile, rayyan scanned the room while introducing himself.

His eyes briefly landed on ariana

For a moment, his expression changed.

As if he recognized her.

But the moment disappeared just as quickly.

The orientation ended, and the interns began leaving.

Ariana gathered her files and rushed out before embarrassment could catch up to her.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans.

As she turned a corner, she collided with someone.

Papers flew everywhere.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed.

"It's alright."

Ariana looked up.

Dr. Rayyan.

Of course.

Why wouldn't it be him?

Both knelt to collect the papers.

Their hands accidentally touched.

Ariana immediately pulled back.

"S-Sorry."

he smiled slightly.

"No need to apologize."

He handed her the last file.

Then he looked at her carefully.

"Have we met before?"

The question she had imagined hearing for years finally came.

But suddenly she couldn't find the words.

"I... maybe..."

Before she could answer, a nurse rushed over.

"Doctor, emergency in Trauma Ward."

Rayyan nodded.

Duty first.

Always.

He looked back at ariana

"Looks like we'll have to continue this conversation another time."

With that, he walked away.

Ariana stood frozen in the hallway.

A small smile appeared on her face.

Because for the first time in years, she wasn't the only one wondering about the past.

The went quite well but she didn't saw him again

hospital was yet a very new and first experience for her...rooms and wards still unexplored

Doctors moved around and nurses behind them for their daily ward checkup!

Ariana was assigned in the cardiac department...where she was under the team of the boy whom she was here for..

Dr. Rayyan Ahmed.

To be continued ❤️

Chapter 3: The name she never forgot

The hospital corridors were unusually calm that morning. Nurses moved swiftly between wards while doctors reviewed reports before the start of another busy day.

Inside his cabin, Dr. Rayyan Ahmed sat focused on a patient's file, unaware that someone was about to walk back into his life after years apart.

Meanwhile, a group of newly joined interns gathered outside the conference room for their orientation.

Among them stood Ariana D'Souza

Dressed in a crisp white coat, she tried to steady her racing heart.

After years of studying medicine, endless exams, and countless sleepless nights, she had finally reached the place she had dreamed about.

The same hospital where Rayyan Ahmed worked.

The same boy she had met years ago during a school trip.

A single meeting.

A few conversations.

A smile she never managed to forget.

Most people would have moved on.

Ariana never did.

Instead, she carried that memory with her through every challenge and every success, secretly hoping that one day fate would bring them together again.

"Dr. Ariana D'Souza?"

She quickly looked up.

"Yes, sir."

"You've been assigned to the Internal Medicine Department under Dr. Rayyan Ahmed."

Her breath caught.

For a moment, she thought she had heard wrong.

Out of all the departments.

Out of all the doctors.

She had been assigned to him.

As the interns entered the conference room, Ariana quietly took a seat near the back.

A few moments later, the door opened.

Dr. Rayyan Ahmed walked in.

Tall, confident, and respected by everyone around him.

Years had changed him.

Yet somehow, he still looked familiar.

The same calm eyes.

The same warm smile.

The same person she had remembered all these years.

"Good morning, everyone," Rayyan began.

His voice immediately captured the room's attention.

"As doctors, our responsibility is not only to treat illnesses but also to understand the people behind them. Patients remember kindness long after they forget prescriptions."

Ariana listened carefully.

Not because she was an intern.

But because every word reminded her why she had admired him in the first place.

As he spoke, his eyes briefly scanned the room.

For a second, they met hers.

Ariana's heart skipped a beat.

But Rayyan simply continued speaking.

He didn't recognize her.

Of course he didn't.

To him, that school trip had probably been just another memory.

To Ariana, it had become the reason she chose medicine.

Later that afternoon, the interns accompanied Rayyan during ward rounds.

Everyone followed closely as he explained patient cases and treatment plans.

Trying to take notes, Ariana accidentally dropped her pen.

It rolled across the floor and stopped near Rayyan's shoes.

Embarrassed, she quickly bent down to grab it.

But Rayyan picked it up first.

"Here you go."

"Thank you, sir."

Their fingers almost touched as he handed

Before she could respond, another doctor called his name.

He turned and walked away.

Ariana watched him disappear down the corridor.

A small smile formed on her lips.

Maybe fate wasn't finished with their story yet.

And perhaps, sooner than either of them realized, the truth about their first meeting would finally come to light.
