The café smelled like fresh coffee and warm pastries. Soft music played in the background. It was the kind of place that made people slow down — even if just for a moment.

Noah was already running late on his first table.

Noah looked at the small potted plant on the counter, gave it one last apologetic look, then grabbed the coffee tray.

Noah laughed quietly and turned toward the door just as it opened.

A gust of cold air came in.

And then — him.

The café went slightly quiet. Not dramatically. Not, obviously. Just... a natural hush that followed certain people into rooms.

Tall. Black coat. Dark eyes that scanned the space once and decided it was beneath him. He walked like the ground owed him something.

Two men followed behind him — one broad and silent, one with curious blue eyes.

Noah noticed none of this.

Noah was looking at the tray.

Noah was walking too fast.

The coffee was tilting.

Hot coffee. White shirt. Expensive black suit.

Silence

Complete, total, suffocating silence.

Dark eyes stared down at him.

Up close, the man was even more terrifying. Sharp jaw. Cold expression. The kind of face that had never been told no.

Noah's brain stopped working.

Noah looked back up at the man. The man had not moved. Had not spoken. Was just... looking at Noah. Something unreadable in his eyes.

He grabbed the nearest cloth from his apron pocket and started dabbing frantically at the man's suit.

The man's hand came up.

Slowly

And closed gently around Noah's wrist.

Stopping him.

Noah Froze

The café was still quiet.

That was already unusual.

Damien looked down at the boy in front of him.

Flushed cheeks. Wide eyes. Coffee-stained apron. A small cloth still held mid-air.

Terrified — but not of him specifically.

Just terrified in the way soft people were terrified when they made mistakes.

It was... Strange.

He couldn't remember the last time someone in his presence looked scared of a coffee stain instead of scared of him.

Noah blinked.

Then turned and walked out.

Then looked at the door the man had walked out of.

Then back at Noah.

Outside, three floors up in a black car, Sebastian was still texting.
