The Rich Boy Who Holds My Hair

he grabbed my hairs

NovelToon
Malik Harewood (Male Lead / Bully)
Rich. Popular. Cruel. His father owns half the island, and Malik acts like he owns the other half. He pulls hair like it's a hobby and lies to principals like it's breathing. But when he looks at Latoya, something changes. He doesn't just want to break her. He wants to see if she'll break at all.

Latoya Alleyne (Female Lead)
She's the girl who sits in the back, keeps her head down, and never causes trouble. But when the richest bully in school grabs her hair and slams her face on the desk, she doesn't flinch. She doesn't run. She just smiles — because Latoya Alleyne doesn't forgive. She waits.
The final bell had rung five minutes ago. The classroom was almost empty—just me, Shaquille, and two girls at the back who were pretending to pack their bags but were really just scrolling through their phones. Latoya and Keisha. Nice girls. Weak students. The kind who never caused trouble because they couldn't afford the attention. I was packing my own bag when I felt it. A hand in my hair.

Not a tap. Not a playful tug. A fistful, tight at the roots, yanking my head back before I could even breathe

Shaquille—" I started, but his name died in my throat.
It wasn't Shaquille. It was him. Malik Harewood. Six feet of expensive sneakers and careless confidence. His uniform was perfectly wrinkled—the kind of wrinkled that said he didn't care because nobody would ever tell him to. His father owned half the island. The other half was scared of him. He pulled my hair again, harder this time, and slammed my face toward the desk. My cheek hit the wood. My notebook scattered.

Tell me," Malik said, his voice low and smooth like he had all the time in the world, "what should I do with you?
Didn't answer. My heart was pounding so loud I could hear it in my ears. Latoya and Keisha froze. Latoya's phone slipped out of her hand and clattered on the floor. Keisha just stared, mouth half open, like she was watching a car crash in slow motion.

You think you can ignore me?" Malik twisted my hair. "I asked you a question
..
..
Let her go!" Shaquille's voice cut through
Turned my head just enough to see him. He was standing now, fists clenched, face red. He looked angry. He looked ready. And he looked exactly like someone who was about to get himself killed.

What you gonna do, Shaq?" Malik didn't even turn around. He kept his eyes on me. "You gonna fight me? In front of everybody?"

Shaquille took a step forward

Shaq, don't—" I started
..
..
Leave her alone, Malik!"
The two girls at the back grabbed their bags and slipped out the side door. Smart move. Coward move. But smart. Malik finally let go of my hair. He pushed my head forward one last time, just because he could, then straightened up and turned to face Shaquille. He was taller. Bigger. And he had that look—the look of someone who had never lost a fight because nobody had ever been stupid enough to try.

You wanna die today?" Malik asked. Genuinely curious. Like he was asking about the weather
..
..
I wanna—"
The door opened. Mr. Clarke, the principal, walked in. His eyes swept the room—me rubbing my scalp, Shaquille shaking with rage, Malik standing there like he owned the place
..
..
What happened here?" Mr. Clarke asked
Silence. Malik looked at me. Shaquille looked at me. Even Mr. Clarke looked at me. I swallowed. My throat was dry. My cheek still stung from where it hit the desk.

Nothing, sir," I said.

Mr. Clarke frowned. "Latoya. Nothing?"

Nothing, sir. We were just leaving."
He didn't believe me. I could see it on his face. But what was he going to do? No one saw anything. No one ever saw anything.

Mr. Clarke turned to Malik. "And you? What were you doing?"

Malik smiled. It didn't reach his eyes.

I was helping her, sir," he said. "She dropped her things. I was helping her pick them up."
The lie hung in the air like smoke. Mr. Clarke looked at me again. I didn't say a word.
..
..
Alright. Everybody go home."
Malik grabbed his bag, brushed past Shaquille like he wasn't even there, and walked out. At the door, he paused. He didn't turn around.

Then he was gone. The moment the door clicked shut, Shaquille exploded.

I'm gonna fight him. Tomorrow. I don't care—

You won't do it, Shaq." I looked at him. "You'll be half dead before you land one punch. And then what? Your mom will cry. The teachers will say they're sorry. And Malik will be back in class on Monday like nothing happened
..
..
So what? We just take it?"

I walked out. Behind me, I heard him kick a desk. The hallway was empty. The sun was setting outside the windows, long and golden. Somewhere down the hall, I heard Malik laughing with his friends. I kept walking. Tomorrow would be worse. I knew that. But today, I just needed to get home

weed

The afternoon heat inside the classroom was thick enough to choke on. The overhead fan just groaned, lazily pushing the warm air around while Mrs. Brathwaite droned on about English Literature. Latoya sat near the back, her head down, mindlessly tracing the deep scratches on her wooden desk. Her face still stung where it had hit the wood earlier, but her expression was a perfect, unreadable mask.
Suddenly, a loud screech of metal cut through the teacher's voice. Malik shoved his chair back, standing up without an ounce of respect. He didn't look at the teacher. His eyes were fixed on the back of Latoya’s head.

Mrs. Brathwaite," Malik called out, his voice deeper and rougher than usual. "Bathroom."
..
..
Mr. Harewood, we are right in the middle of analyzing this poem. Can it not wait?"
Malik Harewood (Male Lead / Bully)

"No," Malik said flatly. He didn't wait for a final answer. He just grabbed his pass off the corner of her desk and walked out, letting the heavy wooden door slam behind him.
Ten minutes passed. Then fifteen. The lesson continued, but the air in the room felt heavy, charged with an uneasy anticipation. Shaquille kept glancing back at Latoya, his eyes filled with silent, anxious questions. Latoya ignored him, keeping her eyes glued to her notebook. Exactly sixteen minutes later, the classroom door swung open with a violent bang. Malik walked in. The casual, arrogant smirk he usually wore was completely gone. His uniform tie was completely loosened, hanging limply around his neck, and a distinct, skunky, pungent scent followed him like a cloud.
The entire class went dead silent. Everyone knew that smell.
..
..
Mr. Harewood!" Mrs. Brathwaite gasped, her face twisting in immediate disgust. "Where have you been? And what is that awful smell on you?"
Malik didn't even look at her. He stumbled slightly, his heavy designer sneakers dragging against the floor as he walked down the aisle. When he reached Latoya's row, he stopped. He leaned heavily against her desk, bending down until his face was just inches from hers. Latoya finally looked up.
His eyes were completely bloodshot, a vivid, glassy red that made him look wild, dangerous, and entirely unhinged. The sweet, heavy stench of weed rolled off his clothes, filling her senses. He was completely high, his pupils dilated as he stared down at her like a predator staring at its prey.
..
..
Malik!" Mrs. Brathwaite shouted, slamming her textbook onto the podium. "Are you listening to me? Look at your eyes! You are in no condition to be in this classroom! This is completely unacceptable behavior!"
Malik ignored the screaming teacher entirely. His red eyes locked onto Latoya’s blank stare, a slow, toxic smile spreading across his lips.

Missed me, Latoya?" he whispered, his voice dangerously low, thick with the smoke he’d just inhaled. He reached out, his hot fingers brushing against the edge of her desk, right next to her hand. "You look lonely back here."

Go sit down, Malik," Latoya said, her voice dropping to an icy, quiet whisper. She didn't blink, showing absolutely no fear toward the towering boy looming over her.
..
..
Mr. Harewood, step away from her this instant and go straight to the principal's office!" Mrs. Brathwaite yelled, her face turning purple with rage.

Malik didn't move. He just chuckled, a dark, raspy sound, his red eyes burning into Latoya's. "The teacher is talking to me... but I only want to hear you."

The final bell of the day didn't just signal the end of classes; it felt like a temporary truce. The moment Mrs. Brathwaite stormed out to report Malik to the administration, the heavy, suffocating atmosphere in the room broke apart
Keisha
Keisha
Latoya, wait up,
Keisha whispered, quickly shoving her notebooks into her bag as they walked out into the crowded corridor. She kept her voice low, her eyes scanning the sea of uniforms around them. She reached out, gently touching the back of Latoya's shoulder, but winced when she felt how tense the muscles were

Look at your back... you're walking so stiff. Malik really threw you hard against that desk earlier. You need to use a cold press on it when you get home, okay? Don't just ignore it."

Latoya adjusted her backpack strap, her face an unreadable mask of calm. "Okay. I will."

I mean it, Latoya. You act like you're made of stone, but you're going to wake up bruised tomorrow morning," Keisha sighed, her voice laced with genuine worry.

I'm fine, Keisha. Really," Latoya murmured, cutting her eyes toward the main courtyard.
She froze mid-step. Near the school's silver gates, a crowd had gathered, but the center of attention was unmistakable. Malik was leaning against his car, a cigarette unlit between his lips, looking completely unfazed by whatever lecture he had just received from the principal. Wrapped tightly around his arm was Chloe, the captain of the cheer squad and the undisputed queen bee of the senior class.
They weren't just a couple; they were a spectacle. Chloe’s sharp eyeliner and pristine uniform matched Malik’s toxic, wealthy aesthetic perfectly. They were both notorious bullies, ruling the school corridors with a mix of cruel whispers and social execution. But more than a couple, they always showed up like a public performance—flaunting their status, their money, and their absolute power over everyone else. Chloe laughed at something Malik whispered, her eyes scanning the crowd like a hawk looking for its next victim, while Malik’s bloodshot, glassy eyes scanned right past her, sweeping across the courtyard until they found Latoya.
Latoya didn't break eye contact. She just looked at them—two beautiful, rotten things pretending to be royalty. Then, she turned her back and walked away. The walk home was long, the afternoon heat radiating off the asphalt. By the time Latoya unlocked the front door of her house, her back was aching with a dull, throbbing pain.
..
..
Latoya? Is that you?"
A voice called out from the living room. Her stepdad, Richard, stepped into the hallway. He was wearing his usual crisp linen shirt, looking every bit the successful businessman her mother had traded up for. He stopped, looking down at her with a frowned brow
..
..
You look pale, sweetheart. Everything alright at school today?"
Latoya Alleyne (Female Lead)

I'm fine, Richard. Just a long day of classes," Latoya said, keeping her voice even as she slipped her shoes off by the door.
..
..
Are you sure? You look like you've seen a ghost. Your mother is upstairs resting, but I can have the maid fix you some tea," he offered, his tone gentle, trying so hard to play the role of the perfect, caring father.
But every time Latoya looked at Richard, she didn't see a father. She saw the wreckage of her childhood. Years ago, her mother had blown their family apart. She had cheated on Latoya's real father with Richard—a wealthier, more powerful man who could afford the lavish lifestyle her father never could. Her mother had packed her bags, divorced her dad, and married Richard within a year, dragging Latoya into this giant, hollow house built on betrayal. Richard tried his best to be kind, to buy her affection, but to Latoya, he was just a constant reminder of what had been stolen.

No, thank you. I'm just going to go upstairs and lie down," Latoya said quietly, avoiding his eyes
..
..
Alright. Let us know if you need anything," Richard replied, a faint tint of disappointment in his voice as he realized, once again, that the wall between them wasn't coming down.
Latoya walked up the stairs, each step sending a sharp jolt of pain through her bruised back. She locked her bedroom door, threw her bag onto the floor, and immediately pulled out her phone. Her fingers trembled slightly as she opened a hidden messaging app. There was a single draft message she kept ready.
..
..
Are you free this weekend? I can come to the old apartment.
Despite her mother's strict warnings, despite Richard's quiet disapproval, and despite the court orders from years ago, Latoya never stopped. She still met with her real dad in secret. He was broke, living in a cramped, dusty apartment on the edge of town, but he was the only person in the world who didn't look at her like she was an object to be broken or a project to be fixed. She pressed send, staring at the screen as her chest tightened. Between Malik's suffocating obsession at school and the quiet lie she lived at home, the secrets were starting to pile up like kindling, just waiting for a single spark to catch fire.
