"50 years ago, we humans faced a disaster, a disaster caused by our own mistakes. We weren't contented with our strength, so we tried to aim for the impossible. Due to our mistakes, cracks appeared in the skies, demons crawled out and every organism on Earth mutated. Even a common rooster would need ten men to kill. Luckily and obviously, we humans evolved, we killed monsters and obtained gene souls. These things are capable of giving you gene skills, gene skills are capable of giving you fighting techniques used by the monster but modified for human body. You can also obtain gene physique, this allows you to acquire adaptive features of the monster. Gene physiques are rare so don't be over optimistic take what you can take and leave what you can't. Am I understood? "

 ""yes sir "" the students said in unison. "Good I don't have the strength to keep talking"

Damian stared at the lazy looking instructor as he walked away.

Damian was a boy with black hair and calm eyes, he had a calm and nonchalant personality.

"Alright, students form teams and assign your team captains, you're going to be sent out there to hunt low level creatures so prepare yourselves. If you need weapons go to the corner and choose a weapon."

Damian went to the corner to select a weapon. While he was deciding, someone came next to him.

" Hey, Damian do you want to join my team? " It was Diana. She was a blonde girl with sparkling blue eyes. Her father was the owner of a company ranked as the number one of Blue crystal city. "Don't let such trash join your team Diana" a boy said walking towards them. "Whoever chooses to join my team has nothing to do with you Vincent" Diana responded coldly. "But why let such a poor and fatherless trash join you?. Rather than him helping, he'll just drag you down instead" Damian frowned he hates it when people call him fatherless.

Damian is an orphan, he got an admission into the school through the help of Diana's uncle. Due to that, students saw him as a lucky but talentless trash.

"Diana I'll join your team" Damian said calmly. He always chose to ignore people like Vincent. "Great, we needed just a few people in our team, so I chose you" Diana smiled.

'Did they just ignore me.' Vincent thought in shock. Damian picked up a sword and swung it. "This would do" He said while putting it in the sheath.

"Alright students, I'm sure you've already joined a team so get ready to hunt. Oh and don't worry about your safety, in life threatening situations our rescue team will come help you. They have combined with Black Swan gene physiques allowing them to gain access to you on land or in water. But just incase don't die "A instructor informed the students with a smile.

" You heard them 'don't die' " Vincent whispered to Damian with a wicked grin. Damian ignored Vincent and prepared for his departure.

The instructors led the students towards a huge elevator-like door. It was silver, the door wasn't connected to any wall, it just stood on the spot emitting weird energy. Damian observed the door with curiosity, he wondered why the instructors would bring them there.

*Activating 'Space gate'" A mechanical voice announced. Damian stared at the door as it slowly opened with a 'whir'.

" Listen up students, make sure to stay with your team as you pass through the space gate. It'll teleport each team to a random location, so make sure to keep close" An instructor said with a loud voice. "Come on Damian, let's go" Diana said.

Damian followed Diana and her teammates through the gate. Immediately after Damien entered the gate, he felt extremely dizzy. He felt as if he was being tossed around in the air.

"I hate this feeling" Damian complained while trying to stop himself from vomiting. As Damian was enduring the torture, he suddenly felt land below him. He quickly balanced himself and took a look around. He had been teleported into a forest, the forest wasn't very thick, but it was filled with a lot of trees.

Diana and her friends suddenly appeared next to Damian, they all looked pale due to the teleportation. "What, you guys can't handle a little dizziness?" Damian asked trying to act tough.

"Don't act tough I know you experienced the same thing" a red haired girl in the team said staring at him. Damian didn't argue because she was right.

"Alright everyone stay focused and stay on guard" Diana said immediately making everyone ready for battle. She was elected as the team captain, so everyone had to listen to her. Damian stayed on guard after all, they were in the middle of a forest.

As if it was reading his mind, a creature jumped out of the forest and ran towards them. It was a giant black beetle, it had horns that resembled those of a rhino.

"Oh no, I recognize this beast. It's the Black armored beetle. Everyone, quickly in position." Diana shouted. "Careful every one, the Black armored beetle is very strong and has a high leveled defense. It attacks by charging at it's enemy like a bull." Diana informed the team. Her father sold gene souls so she was well informed about types of beasts.

Damian gripped his sword tightly, apparently he was the only swordsman in the team. The team had just five people in it, Diana and a tall black haired girl were archers, the red haired girl wielded a spear , a muscular boy who dyed his hair white held a tall shield and Damian fought with a sword.

The Black armoured beetle rushed towards them furiously. Damian swiftly pulled his sword out of it's sheath and jumped to the side. The beetle couldn't change its course while charging so it couldn't hit Damian. He quickly used that opportunity to strike one of it's legs. The beetle stumbled and struggled to keep its balance. The white haired boy quickly used his shield to hit the side of the beetle causing it to hit a large tree. The impact was so strong that the tree ended up being uprooted.

"Quickly, attack it while it's dazed" Diana commanded.

After Diana finished talking, her and the black haired girl started bombarding the black beetle with arrows, they mostly fired its eyes. The black armored beetle screeched and immediately rushed towards the red haired girl who was attacking it with her spear.

"Watch out" Diana screamed. She pointed her palm towards the beetle, a blue bolt of lightning shot out of her palm, it struck the beetle head with a loud cracking sound.

'Whoa, was that a gene skill?' Damian thought in amazement. After it was struck by the bolt of lightning, the beetle collapsed on the ground slightly twitching. The red haired girl quickly snapped out of her daze and rushed towards Diana to support her, she looked weak after using the skill.

"Let's end this" Damian said with a serious expression. He ran towards the beetle and struck its head with his sword. After being struck by lightning, there was a crack on the beetle's shell. Damian took advantage of the opening to repeatedly strike the beetle's flesh. Blood and other fluids sprayed around him as he twisted and stabbed the beetle.

After attacking for five minutes, the beetle finally stopped moving. "Phew, that was hard" Damian sighed in exhaustion. After he killed the beetle, its head glowed with white light as a marble sized orb flew out of it. It flew towards Damian and hung in the air as if waiting for him to pick it up. Damian held and observed it.

The orb was black, it glowed with a pale white light, on the orb was a white drawing of the Black armored beetle. "Hey Diana check this out" Damian tossed the orb towards her, a she was already healed.

She caught it and observed it for a second. "This is a Black armored beetle gene skill, it has the aura of a 2-star beast. If I'm guessing correctly the skill might be a strength type skill".she threw the orb towards Damian "You contributed the most, so you deserve it"

Damian caught the orb and stared at it for a while. "You can't give something so valuable, I was just trying to help the team" he said with a righteous look. "Then give it back" Diana said stretching her hand towards him.

"Actually I need the skill after all I need to improve my strength" Damian smiled. "How do I use it?"

"Just swallow it" Diana replied. Damian was surprised that the process would be so easy. He threw the orb into his mouth and swallowed it. Immediately after swallowing it, he felt a headache as a huge amount of information entered his head.

The gene skill provided by the black armored beetle was an unarmed fighting technique. Damian channelled all the energy in his body into his fist and released a punch. The punch travelled with speed and power, it even released a Shockwave.

"Diana was right it's a strength type skill" Damian said with a slight disappointment. He used swords to fight so he wouldn't be able to use the skill more often.

"Hey Diana how are beast ranked and how did you know this was a gene skill" Damian asked curiously. "Gene skills are shaped like orbs while Gene physiques look like crystals. And as for beast ranking, they are ranked from 1-star to 5 star. The higher the star the stronger they are" Diana replied.
