The top floor of the Jeon-Min Conglomerate tasted like expensive espresso and cold ambition. Jungkook adjusted the cuffs of his tailored charcoal suit, his gaze fixed on the glass-walled boardroom at the end of the hall. Beside him, Min Yoongi, his sharp-witted business partner and lifelong best friend, flipped through a digital tablet with a faint, cynical smirk.
"The Kim family doesn’t play layout games, Jungkook," Yoongi murmured, not looking up. "Namjoon has been dominating the logistics market for two decades, and Seokjin’s public relations empire practically controls the city's narrative. They aren't going to hand over the maritime shipping rights just because your father asked nicely."
Jungkook’s jaw tightened. "My father didn't ask nicely. He built this merger strategy from the ground up, and Hobi spent three months smoothing over the legal loopholes. We aren't here to beg. We’re here to take what's ours."
When Jeon Jackson had married Hoseok years after Jungkook’s biological mother passed away, he had learned two things: loyalty was earned through blood and sweat, and Hoseok—whom Jungkook affectionately called Ma—would fiercely protect their family's legacy. Jungkook intended to do the same.
The heavy mahogany doors opened, and the air in the room instantly shifted, turning freezing cold.
Sitting at the far end of the table was Kim Taehyung.
He looked infuriatingly relaxed, leaning back in his leather chair with an aura of untouchable, aristocratic privilege. His dark hair was parted perfectly, framing eyes that held a dangerous, mocking intelligence. To his right sat Park Jimin, his secretary and best friend, looking sharp, hyper-focused, and utterly fiercely loyal.
Jungkook took his seat directly across from Taehyung. The silence between them was an immediate, suffocating weight. They had crossed paths at galas and charity events, but this was different. This was war cloaked in corporate diplomacy.
"Jeon," Taehyung greeted, his voice a deep, smooth baritone that rubbed Jungkook’s nerves entirely the wrong way. "I read your proposal. It was... ambitious. Cute, even."
Jungkook leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table, his eyes narrowing. "Cute enough to corner 40% of your European distribution if you don't sign today, Kim. Your fathers, Namjoon and Seokjin, might have built an empire on grace, but I know you don't have their patience."
Taehyung’s smile didn't reach his eyes. A flash of pure, unadulterated hostility flickered in his dark irises. He tilted his head, a patronizing smirk playing on his lips. "You think you understand my family dynamic because you read a few financial articles? Let me make one thing clear, Jeon. You and your little start-up partner don't have the leverage to threaten me. You want a war? Try me."
Across the table, Jimin and Yoongi exchanged sharp, wary glances. The meeting hadn't even officially begun, but the battle lines were already drawn in permanent ink. Jungkook stared back, his blood boiling with a sudden, vicious desire to tear that arrogant smirk right off Taehyung's face.
The game had officially begun.
The tension from the boardroom lingered in the executive elevator like heavy static. Jungkook didn't loosen his silk tie until the doors slid shut, sealing him and Yoongi away from the Kim Dynasty’s freezing gaze. He stood tall, his broad shoulders squared, radiating a commanding authority that completely refused to be diminished by anyone. He was a man accustomed to taking charge of every room he entered, and today was no exception.
"He did that on purpose," Jungkook muttered, his knuckles turning white as his fingers tightly gripped the polished metal handrail. "The arrogance. The patronizing tone. He actually thinks he can dominate me. He wants us to lose our cool before the negotiations even start."
Yoongi didn't look up from his tablet, though his jaw was visibly tight. "And you almost gave him exactly what he wanted. Taehyung isn't just playing standard corporate chess, Jungkook. He’s trying to see how fast you burn. Next time, let him talk. The less you react, the more he fumbles his own play."
Jungkook took a slow, sharp breath, staring at his own fierce reflection in the metallic wall. He wouldn't let Taehyung win the psychological game. Not a chance. He was going to completely control this entire merger and prove to his father Jackson and Ma that he possessed the raw, unyielding strength to handle the family legacy. Jungkook was used to being the one in charge, and he fully intended to make Taehyung submit to his terms, both in business and out of it.
Meanwhile, back on the top floor, the atmosphere inside Taehyung’s private office was just as calculated.
Taehyung stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the city traffic crawl below. He took a slow sip of his black coffee, his mind replaying the way Jungkook’s dark, predatory eyes had narrowed across the table. There was an intense, heavy masculinity to Jungkook that Taehyung hadn't anticipated. It was unsettling how Jungkook’s sheer, powerful presence had threatened to completely overwhelm the room, making Taehyung feel strangely cornered despite his own high status.
"You pushed him too hard for a first meeting," Jimin said, setting a fresh stack of shipping manifests on the mahogany desk. His voice was calm, but his protective instinct as a secretary and best friend was sharp. "The Jeon-Min conglomerate has tight security on their logistics chain. If you anger them enough to pull out, Namjoon uncle and Seokjin uncle won't be happy about the public relations fallout."
Taehyung turned around, a slow, dangerous smile tilting the corner of his lips as he leaned back against the glass, trying to shake off the lingering memory of Jungkook's piercing gaze. "He won't pull out, Jimin. Jungkook is far too proud to run away from a fight. He wants to prove himself to his family. That intense pride is his biggest leverage—and his biggest weakness."
Jimin sighed, adjusting his glasses. "Just make sure his weakness doesn't become our liability. I’ll keep tracking their European distribution numbers. We need to know exactly how much weight they carry before the next sit-down."
"Do that," Taehyung murmured, his eyes reflecting the cold glass of the window as an unexpected shiver ran down his spine. "Let's see how long Jeon Jungkook can keep up that fierce attitude before he finally cracks under the pressure. I want to see exactly what happens when he realizes he can't push me around."
