My Delicate Brat

Babysitting Duty

In the quiet suburbs where cherry blossoms painted the sidewalks pink every spring, the Takahashi household had always walked a fine line between order and delightful chaos. Haruto, the responsible eldest son, was the golden anchor—tall, dependable, and constantly climbing the corporate ladder. Then there was Yuu, his younger brother by six years: a delicate 19-year-old who looked like he had been crafted from the finest porcelain and pure mischief.

Standing at 165cm with soft, wavy dark hair that framed an unfairly pretty face, wide doe-like eyes framed by long lashes, and a slender frame that instinctively made people want to protect him, Yuu despised how fragile he appeared. He fought back with a tongue sharper than any blade. Sass was his armor, his weapon, and sometimes his only defense. He adored oversized sweaters that swallowed his small body and often slipped off one pale shoulder, subtle touches of lip gloss that made his pout irresistible, and soft pastel aesthetics he fiercely denied were “feminine.”

“It's just style, idiots,” he would snap whenever teased.

He was a walking contradiction—bratty and dramatic one moment, adorably clingy and seductive the next when he wanted something. And for the most part, the world bent to his will.

Everyone except Kai Sato.

Kai had been Haruto’s best friend since high school. At 25, he stood at 190cm of broad shoulders, cool detachment, and quiet, commanding intensity. With sharp features, dark hair, and eyes that seemed to pierce through every tantrum and calculated pout, Kai had always treated Yuu like a beloved but troublesome extension of the family. He ruffled his hair without hesitation, called him “princess” or “brat” just to watch him sputter, and diffused his storms with nothing more than a raised eyebrow or a low, teasing remark.

For years, Kai had kept his deepening fascination carefully locked away. Yuu was Haruto’s little brother. Off-limits. Cute? Undeniably. Irresistible when he turned on that lethal charm? Absolutely. But Kai was patient. Controlled.

Until Haruto’s month-long business trip overseas shattered the delicate balance.

“Watch Yuu for me, yeah?” Haruto had said casually over the phone. “The pipes at our place are being fixed, so he’s staying with you. Don’t let the little menace burn your apartment down.”

Kai had smirked into the receiver. “No promises.

...----------------...

The apartment carried a comforting mix of Kai’s woody, expensive cologne and the faint vanilla sweetness of Yuu’s favorite body wash. Yuu was currently draped dramatically across the oversized couch like a disgruntled cat, legs kicking lazily in the air. His cream-colored sweater had slipped off one slender shoulder, revealing smooth pale skin as he scrolled through his phone with theatrical annoyance.

“Stupid Haruto,” he muttered loud enough for the kitchen to hear. “Dumping me on his cold-ass best friend like I’m some fragile houseplant. As if I need a babysitter at my age.”

A low, amused chuckle drifted from the kitchen. Kai leaned against the counter, arms crossed over his broad chest, watching the scene with that signature half-lidded gaze and faint smirk. “You flooded the bathroom last week trying to film an ‘aesthetic bubble bath’ video, princess. Haruto practically begged me to keep an eye on you.”

Yuu’s head snapped up, cheeks flushing a delicate pink. He pushed himself up onto his knees, pointing an accusing finger. “It was one time! And stop calling me princess, you giant ice block!”

Kai pushed off the counter and approached with slow, deliberate steps. He towered over the smaller boy effortlessly. Reaching down, he flicked Yuu’s forehead lightly—enough to annoy, never to hurt.

“Brat,” Kai murmured, voice low and warm beneath the cool exterior. “You’re lucky I like you enough to put up with all this.”

Yuu swatted at his hand, though the protest lacked any real force. Instead, he leaned closer, tilting his head with that practiced, dangerous pout—big eyes fluttering, glossy lips parted just so. “Kai-nii~” he cooed sweetly, voice like honey. “If you like me so much, can’t you just leave me alone tonight? I’ll be super good. I promise.”

For a heartbeat, something darker flickered in Kai’s eyes. He caught Yuu’s chin between strong fingers, tilting his face up firmly. The touch sent an unexpected spark racing down Yuu’s spine.

“Cute,” Kai said, thumb brushing slowly across Yuu’s lower lip and smearing the gloss. “But that little act stopped working on me a long time ago, Yuu.”

Yuu’s breath hitched. His sass faltered, heart hammering wildly. This wasn’t their usual playful banter anymore. This felt heavier. Hungrier.

“Tch.” He recovered quickly, glaring up even as his ears burned red. “As if you’d actually do anything about it. You’re all talk, cold bastard.”

Kai leaned in closer, his breath warm against Yuu’s ear. “Careful, princess. I’ve let you run that pretty mouth for years because you’re adorable when you’re angry.” His free hand settled lightly on Yuu’s waist, fingers easily spanning the slender curve. “Keep pushing, and I might finally give it something better to do.”

The air between them crackled with tension. Yuu shoved weakly at Kai’s solid chest, face burning. “Let go, idiot. I’m not scared of you.”

Kai released him slowly, straightening with a satisfied smirk. His gaze lingered on the flush coloring Yuu’s cheeks and the way his sweater had slipped even further.

“Keep telling yourself that.” He turned back toward the kitchen, tossing over his shoulder, “Dinner’s almost ready. Come eat before you throw another dramatic scene.”

Yuu flopped back onto the couch, burying his burning face in a pillow. His heart refused to slow down.

This month was going to be far more dangerous than he had anticipated.
