I Became an Enigma In Otherworld
freeze
On a brightly lit night, with streetlights shining on both sides of the road, a woman in her late thirties was walking home after work.
A gentle breeze blew through the streets, carrying fallen leaves from one place to another.
Watching the leaves dance in the wind as she walked was a kind of therapy for her. It brought her a sense of peace and comfort, making the journey home feel soothing and relaxing.
Just as she was walking, she noticed something unusual. The leaves, which had been dancing in the wind moments before, suddenly froze in midair.
Confused, she looked around and saw that people had stopped moving as well, frozen in the middle of their steps as if time itself had come to a halt.
The entire street stood perfectly still. The sight was both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
The glowing streetlights, the motionless leaves suspended in the air, and the frozen figures around her created a scene that felt almost magical—yet deeply unsettling.
Then, without warning, a brilliant light flashed before her. It was so bright that she had to shield her eyes with her hands. The light seemed to pierce through the stillness, illuminating the frozen street with an almost heavenly glow.
As the brightness faded, a strange creature appeared before her. At first glance, it resembled a bee, but there was something extraordinary about it.
It had eight delicate wings that shimmered like crystal in the light. Despite its unusual appearance, it radiated a sense of peace and wonder.
Looking at it filled her with the same awe one might feel in the presence of an angel.
Kim min-ji
"Are you the one who did this?" she asked, pointing at the motionless street around them.
Her voice sounded strangely loud in the unnatural silence. Not a single leaf moved. Not a single footstep echoed through the night. The world seemed trapped in a single frozen moment.
The creature seemed taken aback by her question.
Most people reacted very differently when faced with a frozen world. Some would panic and run through the streets, desperately checking whether the rest of the city had stopped as well.
Others would become angry, demanding that everything be returned to normal while threatening whoever was responsible. Many simply collapsed from fear.
But this woman had done none of those things.
She had simply asked a question.
And she had asked it with remarkable calmness.
The creature studied her silently.
Perhaps the Lord God had been right after all. A vessel could be changed, replaced, or rebuilt, but a soul was something entirely different.
It could not be exchanged. Even though she now inhabited a human body, traces of her former rank and nature still remained. They were dormant, weakened by time and circumstance, but they had not disappeared completely.
Lost in thought, the creature continued staring at her.
She snapped her fingers in front of its face.
Kim min-ji
Hello? You still there?
The creature blinked with it's tiny eyes.
Realizing she had caught it daydreaming, it quickly composed itself. Its eight shimmering wings fluttered gently as it straightened its posture.
...
"Yes," it replied at last.

"Why did you do that?" she asked calmly.
The creature suddenly remembered the reason it had come here. Its expression turned slightly embarrassed. For a moment, it hesitated, unsure of how to explain the situation to her.
A fierce internal debate seemed to play out behind its eyes. Eventually, with a defeated sigh, it gave up trying to avoid the topic.
...
"I came here to correct a mistake," it said.
...
Yes. You are not where you're supposed to be, and that happened because of my carelessness. So... here I am.
Kim min-ji
*She blinked, not understanding it at all.*
The creature continued rambling, but the more it spoke, the more confused she became. The explanation felt like a puzzle with half the pieces missing.
Kim min-ji
"Wait," she interrupted, raising a hand.
The creature immediately fell silent.
Kim min-ji
"Could you explain that in a more detailed way?" she asked.
Kim min-ji
"Because, at the moment, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about."
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then the little creature cleared its throat and straightened itself.
...
"Right. Let me start from the beginning."
angel
...An angel responsible for the reincarnation of souls. There are many angels like me. We are servants of Heaven, carrying out the tasks assigned to us by the gods.
angel
As I was doing my work one day, just like every other day, sending souls to their proper worlds and bodies, I stumbled upon my little brother. He had only recently come out of Heaven, and At that moment of distraction, I accidentally sent you to the wrong world and the wrong body.
angel
The soul that was exchanged with yours was only meant to live until the age of eighteen. So, when her lifespan ended, she died as she was supposed to. However, because she was in your body instead of her own, your original body did not die completely.
angel
Seeing such an unusual case, the angel in charge had no choice but to report it to Lord God. And Lord God, being all-knowing, immediately discovered that I was the one responsible.
angel
As punishment, He ordered me to search for you myself. I had to travel through countless universes, looking for the soul I had misplaced, and once I found you, I was to send you back to the body and life that were originally yours."
angel
The angel let out a weary sigh.
"And that is why I am here."

Hearing his explanation, she felt strangely numb.
It wasn't as if she had loved ones she would be leaving behind. There was no husband, no children, no family waiting for her at home.
And yet...
She had spent thirty-eight years in this world, in this body.
Thirty-eight years of pain, struggle, and survival.
She had endured the wounds left behind by her parents. She had survived the nightmares they gave her. She had spent years healing from scars no one could see. Every step forward had been earned through tears, loneliness, and sheer determination.
And now, after all that suffering, she had finally built a life she could call her own.
Her small house that she bought with her hard-earned savings.
Her collection of books stacked neatly on the shelves.
The quiet evenings she spent reading with a cup of tea.
The peaceful life she had fought so hard to create.
None of it was grand or extraordinary, but it was hers.
For the first time in her life, she had finally found peace.
A bitter smile formed on her lips.
"Where had he been all those years ago?"
Why hadn't he come when she was a frightened little girl praying for someone—anyone—to save her from the nightmares waiting behind her bedroom door?
Why hadn't Heaven corrected its mistake then?
People always said help arrived when you needed it.
But sometimes it felt like help arrived only after you had already saved yourself.
Kim min-ji
Her fingers clenched slightly.
Now, after thirty-eight years, after all the pain and healing, after finally finding a place where she belonged, they wanted to take it all away?
Wasn't it too late?
Couldn't Lord God simply let her live the life she had built for herself?
For the first time since the creature had appeared, her calm expression cracked, revealing a quiet hurt that had been buried deep within her heart.
Kim min-ji
Why now?" she asked softly, holding herself back from snapping at him.
Kim min-ji
go away, i don't need it.
