The End Was Not The End
She wrote the final chapter and thought the story was over. 📖
But on the very night she typed "THE END," the hero she had created stepped out of the pages and into her world. 📒
Now, the line between fiction and reality is fading, and a story that was never meant to continue has only just begun... ✨
Chapter 1: The Man Who Shouldn't Exist
It was 1:47 a.m.
The cold night of Seoul was wrapped in silence, while the city lights shimmered through the windows.
Ha-Yoon sat in the bedroom of her apartment, staring at her laptop screen. A half-empty mug of coffee rested on the desk beside scattered notes, notebooks, and countless drafts.
Three years.
She had spent three whole years writing this novel.
And today...
Today, it was finally coming to an end.
The final chapter of her novel was open on the laptop screen.
"Tae-Hyun stepped into the darkness alone."
Just one more line.
Only one.
Ha-Yoon placed her fingers on the keyboard.
She paused for a moment.
Then slowly typed—
"For the first time in his life, Tae-Hyun was free."
She pressed Enter.
Saved the file.
And two words appeared on the screen.
The End.
Ha-Yoon leaned back in her chair.
A tired smile slowly spread across her lips.
"Finally...
Then...
The room lights flickered once.
Then again.
Ha-Yoon sat up straight.
"Huh?"
The lights flickered once more.
This time, even the laptop screen began to
flicker strangely.
The temperature in the room suddenly dropped.
Much lower than before.
As if someone had filled the entire room with the icy breath of winter.
Ha-Yoon instinctively wrapped her arms around herself.
The window was closed.
Yet the curtains were swaying.
As if the wind wasn't coming from outside...
But from within the room itself.
Her heartbeat slowly began to race.
Then...
Thud.
A book fell from the bookshelf.
Ha-Yoon quickly turned around.
Then another book fell.
And another.
One after another.
As if something inside the bookshelf was trying to force its way out.
"W-What's happening...?"
She spoke softly.
There was no answer.
Only silence.
Then...
She heard someone call her name.
Very softly.
As if the voice was coming from far away.
"Ha-Yoon..."
Her hands turned cold.
"W-Who's there?"
Silence.
Then she noticed something strange.
The darkness in the corner of the room was moving.
Ha-Yoon froze.
The darkness was really moving.
It looked like a cloud of black mist.
A crack slowly appeared in the middle of it.
It was thin.
Long.
And it kept getting bigger.
Dark lines spread across the walls of the
room.
The air suddenly felt heavy.
Ha-Yoon took one step back.
Then another.
And another.
At that moment...
A hand reached out from the crack.
It was covered in wounds.
Ha-Yoon stopped breathing for a moment.
She tried to scream.
But no sound came out.
The crack grew bigger.
A man fell out of it.
Thud!
The whole room shook.
He didn't move for a few seconds.
Then he slowly got up and knelt on one knee.
His clothes were covered in dirt and blood.
There was a deep wound on his shoulder.
A long sword hung from his waist.
Ha-Yoon looked at his face.
Her blood ran cold.
No...
That was impossible.
She knew that face.
Very well.
Because she was the one who had written every single detail of it.
The man slowly raised his head.
His cold eyes locked onto Ha-Yoon.
Tae-Hyun.
The main character of her novel.
Was standing right in front of her.
Tae-Hyun slowly stood up.
Suddenly, the darkness around him seemed to come alive.
Black mist began to circle around him.
Ha-Yoon stared in shock.
The wound on his shoulder slowly started to heal.
The blood disappeared.
The torn parts of his clothes slowly fixed themselves.
It was as if time was moving backwards.
Within a few moments, all of his wounds were gone.
Now he looked exactly the way Ha-Yoon had imagined him.
No...
Even better.
His eyes were so cold that Ha-Yoon felt as if
he could see right through her.
"He's even scarier than I imagined..."
Then another thought came to her mind.
"And... even more handsome."
Ha-Yoon quickly shook her head.
"Focus, Ha-Yoon!"
Tae-Hyun was still looking at her.
Then, for the first time, he spoke.
"You are Ha-Yoon."
It wasn't a question.
It was a fact.
Ha-Yoon opened her mouth.
"I-I..."
But the words got stuck in her throat.
She took a deep breath and tried again.
"I-I'm Ha-Yoon."
There was no reaction on Tae-Hyun's face.
No surprise.
No smile.
No anger.
He just kept looking at her.
Ha-Yoon gathered her courage.
"Y-You..."
she asked nervously,
"How did you get here?"
Silence filled the room for a few moments.
Then Tae-Hyun looked at the laptop screen.
The same two words were still shining on it.
The End.
His expression turned serious.
"You set me free."
"What?"
"I also believed that my world was everything."
His voice was cold.
"But then... the sky broke apart."
"And I ended up here."
Tae-Hyun looked around the room.
Then he started walking toward the door.
"Wait!"
He didn't stop.
Ha-Yoon quickly stepped in front of him.
"You can't go outside!"
"Why?"
"My sister will see you!"
Tae-Hyun stopped.
Just then, a faint sound came from downstairs.
It sounded like a bedroom door had opened.
Ha-Yoon's face turned pale.
"Oh no..."
"What happened?"
"Soo-Min is awake."
The sound of footsteps echoed from the stairs.
One step at a time.
Getting closer.
"Tae-Hyun, please... hide for now!"
"Why should I hide?"
"Because you're the main character of my novel!"
Just then...
Soo-Min's voice came from outside the door.
"Ha-Yoon? Are you still awake?"
Ha-Yoon's heart sank.
She looked at Tae-Hyun.
Tae-Hyun looked at the door.
And then...
The doorknob slowly began to turn...

Chapter 2
An Unwanted Guest
The doorknob slowly turned.
Ha-Yoon's heart stopped for a second.
"Hide," she whispered.
Tae-Hyun looked at her for a moment.
Without saying a word, he walked toward the balcony and quietly stood in the darkest corner.
The next second, the door opened.
Soo-Min walked into the room.
"Ha-Yoon? You're still awake?"
Ha-Yoon quickly looked at her laptop and forced a smile.
"Yeah... I was just finishing my novel."
Soo-Min raised an eyebrow.
"At two in the night?"
"It was the last chapter."
Soo-Min let out a deep sigh.
"You're seriously crazy."
"Thank you."
"I wasn't complimenting you."
Ha-Yoon tried not to laugh.
Her heart was still beating fast.
She was afraid Soo-Min might look toward the balcony.
But Soo-Min's attention stayed on her.
"You have to go to the office tomorrow."
"I know."
"Then go to sleep."
"Okay."
Soo-Min's eyes fell on the half-empty coffee mug on the desk.
"How much coffee did you drink?"
"Just a little."
"Liar."
Ha-Yoon looked away.
Soo-Min shook her head.
"Seriously, Ha-Yoon. Take care of yourself."
Her voice became softer.
Then she turned toward the door.
"Good night."
"Good night, Unnie."
Soo-Min left the room.
The door quietly closed behind her.
For a few moments, the room was completely silent.
Ha-Yoon let out a deep breath.
Then she looked toward the balcony.
"You can come out now."
Tae-Hyun slowly stepped out of the darkness.
His cold eyes were fixed on her.
"Did she leave?"
"Yes."
Ha-Yoon brushed her hair behind her ear.
"Now tell me."
"How did you come into my world?"
Tae-Hyun stayed silent for a moment.
"I don't know."
Ha-Yoon frowned.
"What do you mean you don't know?"
"One moment, I was in my own world."
"The next moment... I was here."
Ha-Yoon looked at him anxiously.
"But why did you come here?"
This time, Tae-Hyun looked straight into her eyes.
Then, for the first time...
A faint smirk appeared on his lips.
"Maybe..."
"Do you remember all the troubles you wrote into my life?"
Ha-Yoon swallowed nervously.
Tae-Hyun took one step closer.
"Maybe I came here to make you pay for all of them."
"W-What?!"
Ha-Yoon's face turned pale.
For a few seconds, Tae-Hyun simply looked at her.
Then he looked away.
"Scared?"
"You're joking... right?"
"You tell me."
The smirk on his face grew a little wider.
Ha-Yoon grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.
"You're crazy!"
Tae-Hyun caught the pillow effortlessly.
The same teasing smile remained on his face.
For the first time, Ha-Yoon realized...
The Tae-Hyun she had created was far more complicated than she had ever imagined.
The room fell silent once again.
Ha-Yoon spoke softly.
"If you want... you can stay here tonight."
Tae-Hyun looked at her.
"Why?"
"Because you don't have anywhere else to go."
After a brief silence, he simply nodded.
Neither of them said another word.
Ha-Yoon was completely exhausted.
Her eyelids slowly grew heavy.
Within a few minutes, she fell asleep.
But...
Tae-Hyun didn't.
He quietly stepped onto the balcony.
His eyes wandered across the city of Seoul.
Bright lights.
Tall buildings.
Busy streets that never seemed to sleep.
And a strange kind of peace.
This world was nothing like his own.
His world was filled with war.
The sound of clashing swords.
Betrayal.
Blood.
Pain.
He slowly clenched his fist.
Old memories began to return.
Endless battles.
The people he had lost.
The pain that had followed him for years.
Then he remembered his final day.
The sky had suddenly torn apart.
As if reality itself had been ripped open.
A strange light.
Then... darkness.
And when he opened his eyes again...
He was standing inside Ha-Yoon's room.
Tae-Hyun frowned.
"Why am I here?"
There was no answer.
Only the cold night breeze.
His eyes slowly turned toward the room.
Ha-Yoon was sleeping peacefully.
The same girl...
Who had written every part of his life.
His happiness.
His pain.
Every battle he had fought.
A thought suddenly crossed his mind.
Every hardship he had suffered...
Every wound.
Every loss.
Every lonely night.
Somehow...
It all existed because of Ha-Yoon.
Everything that had happened in his world...
She had written it.
She was the one who gave him pain.
She was the one who filled his path with hardships.
She was the one who forced him to fight countless battles.
Tae-Hyun quietly looked at her.
"Do you even know..."
he whispered,
"...what you've done to me?"
The room remained silent.
Ha-Yoon turned over in her sleep.
She didn't hear a single word.
Tae-Hyun looked away.
There was anger in his heart.
But there was something else too.
Confusion.
Because if Ha-Yoon had written all the pain in his life...
She had also written every one of his victories.
She had broken him.
But she had also made him strong enough to stand up every single time.
And perhaps...
That was what troubled Tae-Hyun the most.
For the first time...
He couldn't understand...
Was Ha-Yoon his enemy...
Or the most important person in his story?
Outside, the night grew even darker.
And Tae-Hyun remained standing on the balcony...
Remembering his old world...
While trying to understand the mysteries of this new one.

Chapter 3: Reality Check
The soft morning sunlight slipped through the curtains and filled the room.
Ha-Yoon slowly opened her eyes.
Her head felt heavy.
Everything that had happened last night had completely shaken her.
For a few moments, she stared at the ceiling.
Then she slowly closed her eyes again.
"It was all a dream..."
she mumbled softly.
"Yeah... it had to be."
After all, there was no way a character from a novel could actually appear in someone's room.
Thinking that, she let out a sigh of relief.
But then...
Her eyes moved toward the balcony.
Her breathing stopped.
Tae-Hyun was still there.
Standing in the exact same place.
Just as he had been last night.
As if he hadn't moved even an inch.
Ha-Yoon quickly sat up.
"No..."
Tae-Hyun slowly turned to look at her.
His cold eyes met hers.
For a few moments, Ha-Yoon simply stared at him.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing.
Then...
Tae-Hyun frowned.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
Ha-Yoon's mouth fell open.
"What?!"
"You've been staring at me for the last two minutes."
Ha-Yoon looked even more shocked.
"How do you know that?"
Tae-Hyun answered without hesitation.
"Because I'm not blind."
Ha-Yoon grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.
"You're so annoying."
Tae-Hyun caught it with ease.
A small teasing smile appeared on his face.
Ha-Yoon was about to say something when a loud voice came from downstairs.
"HA-YOON!"
Both of them froze.
"Breakfast is ready!"
Soo-Min's voice echoed through the apartment.
Ha-Yoon's face turned pale.
"Oh no."
"What happened?" Tae-Hyun asked.
"I have to go downstairs."
"Then go."
Ha-Yoon looked at him.
"What about you?"
"I'll stay in your room."
Ha-Yoon let out a deep sigh.
"Please don't touch anything."
Tae-Hyun raised an eyebrow.
"I'm not a child."
"I know."
"It doesn't sound like you do."
Ha-Yoon rolled her eyes.
Then she quickly walked out of the room.
Downstairs, breakfast was already on the dining table.
Soo-Min was sitting there with a mug of coffee.
"Finally."
Ha-Yoon sat across from her.
"What happened?"
Soo-Min asked immediately.
"Huh?"
"Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
Ha-Yoon's heart skipped a beat.
"It's nothing."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Soo-Min looked at her suspiciously.
Then she simply shrugged.
"Alright."
Both of them ate breakfast quietly for a while.
Then Soo-Min asked,
"So... is your grumpy boss still giving you a hard time?"
Ha-Yoon rolled her eyes.
"Mr. Kim?"
"Yeah, him."
"He's not bothering me..."
Soo-Min raised an eyebrow.
"Really?"
Ha-Yoon broke a piece of toast.
"He just gave me the work of three people yesterday."
"What?!"
"And he still expects me to finish everything by the same deadline."
Soo-Min held her forehead.
"One day, I'm going to that office and give him a piece of my mind."
Ha-Yoon laughed.
"You say that every month."
"One day, I'll actually do it."
Both of them laughed softly.
Then Ha-Yoon asked,
"How's everything at the bank?"
"Is everything going well now?"
Soo-Min let out a sigh of relief.
"The audit from last month is finally over."
"Thank God."
"Seriously."
Soo-Min took a sip of her coffee.
"I honestly thought I wasn't going to survive it."
Ha-Yoon smiled and nodded.
But her mind was still upstairs.
Then suddenly...
A thought crossed her mind.
Her eyes widened.
"Tae-Hyun!"
He must be hungry.
He hadn't eaten anything since last night.
He hadn't even had a glass of water.
A wave of guilt washed over Ha-Yoon.
"Are you okay?" Soo-Min asked.
"Y-Yeah! I'm fine!"
She answered so quickly that Soo-Min became even more suspicious.
Ha-Yoon quickly picked up a few slices of bread.
Then a boiled egg.
And a mug of coffee.
"I'll be right back."
"Wait."
Ha-Yoon froze.
Soo-Min frowned.
"Where are you taking that coffee?"
Ha-Yoon quickly came up with an excuse.
"I need some inspiration for my novel."
Soo-Min stared at her for a few seconds.
Then she held her forehead.
"You're seriously weird."
Ha-Yoon smiled, picked up the tray,
and hurried upstairs.
Ha-Yoon quickly closed the bedroom door.
"Tae-Hyun?"
Her eyes turned toward the balcony.
Tae-Hyun was still standing there.
As if he hadn't moved even an inch since last night.
Ha-Yoon placed the tray on the table.
"You haven't eaten anything."
Tae-Hyun looked at the tray.
Then at Ha-Yoon.
"What is this?"
Ha-Yoon blinked in surprise.
"Bread."
Tae-Hyun remained silent.
"And this is a boiled egg."
Still no reaction.
Ha-Yoon frowned.
"What do people eat in your world?"
"Whatever they can find."
Ha-Yoon let out a quiet sigh.
"Fine."
"Starting today, your first lesson in the modern world begins."
Tae-Hyun raised an eyebrow.
"Food."
She handed the bread to him.
Tae-Hyun took it and looked at it for a few moments.
As if he had never seen anything like it before.
Then he took a small bite.
"Hmm."
Ha-Yoon folded her arms.
"That's it? Just 'hmm'?"
"Were you expecting a different reaction?"
Ha-Yoon rolled her eyes.
"Forget it."
She handed him the boiled egg.
Without saying a word, Tae-Hyun ate it too.
Then his eyes fell on the mug.
"What is this?"
A smile appeared on Ha-Yoon's face.
"Coffee."
"Coffee?"
"Yeah. Half the people in this world survive because of it."
Tae-Hyun looked at the mug suspiciously.
Then he took a sip.
The very next second, his expression changed slightly.
Ha-Yoon's eyes lit up.
"You don't like it!"
Tae-Hyun quickly returned to his usual expression.
"I didn't say that."
"But your face did."
"It's bitter."
Ha-Yoon burst into laughter.
For the first time...
Since last night.
And Tae-Hyun simply stood there, watching her.
Her laughter filled the room.
For a brief moment...
Everything felt strangely normal.
But neither of them knew...
Their real troubles had only just begun.
