Have you ever wondered how much of yourself can disappear before people start noticing?

I used to think there was a limit

A point where someone would stop and ask , "Are you ok ?"

Turns out i was wrong

People don't notice when you disappear

Not if you do it quietly

Not if you keep smiling when they're looking

Not if you learn exactly what they want to see

The funny thing is I wasn't always trying to be invisible

I think i used to have opinions

Preference.

Dreams.

At least I'd like to believe i did

But memories are stranger things

The less you use them the blurrier they become

Sometimes I wonder what kind of person I would've been if nobody had told me who i was supposed to be

Then I stop wondering

There isn't much point

The answer wouldn't change anything

Tomorrow would still arrive at the same time

The same alarms.

The same routine.

The same expectations.

The same version of me.

People often say life is a gift

I suppose it is

Though I've never understood why gifts came with so many conditions

Study harder.

Work harder.

Be better.

Be smarter.

Be perfect.

And if perfection isn't enough...?

Well

Try harder.

Maybe that's why I stopped wanting things

It's difficult to be disappointed when you don't expect anything

Easier too.

Safer.

I didn't know it then but i had become very good at surviving

The problem was.......

I had forgotten how to live.
