When Aria Whitlock moves to the isolated mountain town of Black Hollow, she expects nothing more than a fresh start.
Instead, she catches the attention of the one man she should never have met.
Feared by enemies. Worshipped by his pack. Untouchable to every woman who has ever wanted him.
The moment Ryker sees Aria, his control begins to unravel.
A rare heat season approaches—the first in decades powerful enough to drive even Alphas to their limits. Every instinct inside him demands that he claim the mysterious human who has suddenly become the center of his world.
Aria doesn't believe in werewolves.
She doesn't believe the glowing eyes she sees in the woods.
She doesn't believe the impossible strength Ryker displays.
And she certainly doesn't believe that an entire pack is watching her as if she already belongs to them.
But when an ancient bond awakens during the season of heat, denial becomes impossible.
As rival packs hunt her, secrets about her past surface, and Ryker's obsession grows stronger by the day, Aria must decide whether to run from the darkness—
or embrace the Alpha who would destroy kingdoms to keep her safe.
The Red Moon Rises
The village of Black Hollow appeared out of the fog like something from an old fairy tale
Aria Whitlock tightened her grip on the steering wheel as her truck rolled down the narrow road.
Aria Whitlock
Pine trees, mountains, and more pine trees," (muttered) "Perfect."
After her grandmother's death, Black Hollow was all she had left.
The village was small—far smaller than the city she had grown up in. Wooden buildings lined the main street, warm lights glowing through windows despite the early evening.
As soon as she parked in front of her inherited cottage, an elderly woman appeared from nowhere.
Adelia
"You must be Eleanor's granddaughter."
Aria Whitlock
(Smiled politely.)
Aria Whitlock
"I am. Aria."
Adelia
"Welcome home, dear. I'm Mrs. Dawson."
Aria Whitlock
"I wouldn't go that far," (with a laugh)
Adelia
(smile faded slightly.)
Adelia
"Oh, you'll understand soon enough."
Before Aria could ask what that meant, the woman walked away.
The cottage was old but beautiful.
The unpacking took hours.
By the time she finished, darkness had settled over the mountains.
By the time she finished, darkness had settled over the mountains.
Exhausted, Aria stepped onto the porch with a mug of coffee.
The village was unusually quiet.
Too quiet.
Not a single car.
Not a single voice.
Then she noticed movement.
People were gathering outside their homes.
Everyone was looking toward the sky
Aria Whitlock
"What are they doing?"
Little boy standing nearby answered.
"The Red Moon."
"The Red Moon rises tonight."
Slowly, she looked upward.
The moon was rising above the mountains.
Not silver.
Not white.
The entire village seemed frozen beneath its glow.
And somewhere far beyond the trees...
The abandoned house
A cold shiver ran down her spine.
Slowly, she looked upward.
Aria Whitlock
"Okay... definitely weird."
Slowly, she looked upward.
The moon was rising above the mountains.
Not silver.
Not white.
Red.
The entire village seemed frozen beneath its glow.
And somewhere far beyond the trees...
The sound echoed through the mountains like a warning.
For the first time since arriving in Black Hollow, she felt something she couldn't explain.
Unable to shake the feeling, Aria set down her mug and glanced toward the mountain looming beyond the village.
Aria Whitlock
"This is ridiculous,"(muttered)
Before she could talk herself out of it, she grabbed a flashlight and started up the narrow trail leading into the trees.
The forest was silent except for the crunch of leaves beneath her boots.
The higher she climbed, the brighter the crimson moon became.
Branches swayed overhead.
Shadows stretched between the pines.
Several times she nearly turned back.
But that feeling remained.
After a steep climb, Aria reached a rocky overlook near the mountainside.
The village glittered far below.
As she wandered deeper into the forest, something unusual caught her eye through the trees.
An abandoned house stood hidden among the pines.
Its wooden walls were weathered and gray, and several windows were broken. Vines crawled across the porch, and the roof sagged with age.
The house looked as though no one had lived there for decades.
Aria Whitlock
"What is this place?" (whispered)
Despite every instinct telling her to leave, she stepped closer.
The front door hung slightly open.
A tall man stood at the edge of the room
Aria Whitlock
"Who are you?" (asked)
The stranger studied her carefully
Alpha Ryker Nightshade
"You shouldn't be here."
