His Little Dove
E 1
Some silences are louder than arguments.
The school gates were already closing when Alessio arrived.
Wipers moved across the windshield in steady rhythm, cutting through the rain that refused to stop since morning.
He parked the car near the entrance and stepped out.
Matteo was already waiting.
Leaning against the corridor wall outside the principal’s office, arms crossed, face turned away like Alessio wasn’t even part of the same space.
Alessio’s voice was calm when he spoke.
Alessio Romano / SO
Again?
Alessio Romano / SO
(sighed and walked inside)
The principal didn’t waste time.
Principal
Fifth incident this month.
Alessio Romano / SO
(stood still, hands in his coat pockets)
Matteo sat beside him, staring at the floor like it had more importance than anything in this room.
Principal
Fighting. Disruptive behavior.
Principal
He shows no improvement.
Alessio Romano / SO
(finally looked at Matteo)
Alessio Romano / SO
Matteo, what happened?
Matteo didn’t look at him.
The principal continued, but Alessio raised a hand slightly.
Alessio Romano / SO
I’m sorry.
Alessio Romano / SO
I will talk to him.
Alessio Romano / SO
(gave a small, tired nod)
Alessio Romano / SO
I’ll handle it.
Outside the office, the air felt colder.
Matteo walked ahead immediately.
Alessio followed behind, steps slower, like he already knew the distance between them was not physical anymore.
At the exit, Matteo stopped.
A group of boys was waiting.
Energy shifted instantly — laughter, noise, belonging.
One of them tilted his head.
Emrys Dawson
Teo, is this your Papa?
Before Alessio could speak, Matteo answered first.
Matteo Santini/ A
My uncle.
Alessio didn’t react immediately.
He just looked at Matteo for a long second.
Alessio Romano / SO
Yeah. Uncle.
The friend shrugged and went back to talking to Matteo like Alessio wasn’t there anymore.
E 2
Some bonds are not broken by distance… but by silence.
Alessio reached the car first.
He got in the driver’s seat this time.
Just sitting there for a second longer than necessary.
Rain tapped against the glass.
Matteo got in the back seat.
The car pulled out slowly.
A few minutes passed without a single word.
Alessio Romano / SO
You’re not going to say anything?
Matteo Santini/ A
(Stared out of the window)
Matteo Santini/ A
About what.
Alessio tightened his grip slightly on the wheel.
Alessio Romano / SO
The fight.
Matteo Santini/ A
Doesn’t matter.
Alessio Romano / SO
(Exhales slowly)
Alessio Romano / SO
Matteo… I’m trying.
Then Matteo finally spoke, still not looking at him.
Matteo Santini/ A
That’s the problem.
Matteo Santini/ A
You are not my Parent, so stop trying to act like one.
The words didn’t come with anger.
The rest of the drive stayed silent.
When they reached home, Matteo opened the door first.
Just stepped out and walked inside.
Alessio stayed in the car.
He looked at the empty passenger seat.
Then at the back seat where Matteo had been sitting.
Alessio Romano / SO
(Chuckles sadly)
Alessio Romano / SO
Nine years….
Alessio Romano / SO
And this is what I get.
E 3
Some homes don’t welcome you back.
They simply remind you that you were never part of them to begin with.
The front door closed behind Alessio with a soft click.
It wasn’t unusual anymore… but it still didn’t feel like it belonged to him.
From the living room, Matteo’s voice carried easily.
Nothing like the boy in the car.
Matteo Santini/ A
(Smiling)
Matteo Santini/ A
You came back!
Kneeling slightly as Matteo hugged her tightly.
Almost… desperately affectionate.
Her hands gently rested on his back like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Olivia Richards / O
Hey, careful, you’re getting too strong for me now.
Matteo Santini/ A
(Giggles)
A sound Alessio had never heard him make in his direction.
Marco was sitting on the sofa nearby.
Like nothing in the world required his attention.
Then his eyes lifted and landed on Alessio.
Marco Santini / A
You’re late.
Alessio Romano / SO
(took his coat off slowly)
Alessio Romano / SO
Principal’s office.
Alessio Romano / SO
Fifth time this month.
But the silence still said too much.
Marco Santini / A
You are grounded for a week.
Matteo suddenly let go of the woman and turned.
His expression shifted instantly to Alessio.
Matteo Santini/ A
You always do this!
Alessio Romano / SO
(Looks at him)
Alessio Romano / SO
I didn’t—
Matteo Santini/ A
This is why I hate you.
Alessio Romano / SO
(Clenches his fist)
Marco Santini / A
I’m the one grounding you, not Alessio.
Matteo Santini/ A
He’s the reason.
Alessio Romano / SO
Marco.
Alessio Romano / SO
(Shakes his head)
Marco Santini / A
(Sighs heavily)
Matteo Santini/ A
I wish you’d just leave me alone.
Matteo Santini/ A
Go away from my life!
Alessio finally looked at him properly.
Matteo didn’t call him back.
The woman lowered her gaze as he passed.
Alessio walked up the stairs.
Each step quieter than the last.
Until he reached his room.
And finally let the silence stay with him.
