The Blood-Red River
The full moon was completely swallowed by heavy storm clouds. Lightning ripped through the sky, and violent winds battered a small village sitting right beside a roaring, fast-flowing river.
But the water was turning red. Even in the pouring rain, fire spread violently through the trees and wooden homes, the flames consuming dead bodies as the screams of dying people filled the night. The sky turned pitch black with smoke, and the air was thick with ash and the stench of burning flesh.
Rudra stood completely frozen in the middle of the mud road. He was just a young boy, his small frame trembling violently as his eyes locked onto the horrific, desperate battle unfolding right in front of him. The village’s Knights and Mages were fighting for their lives against a relentless, overwhelming wave of monsters.
The power difference was colossal. The humans fought with everything they had, swords flashing and basic elemental spells lighting up the dark, but the invaders were just too fast and too ruthless. They tore through the village, cutting down every human in sight and painting the dirt roads bright red. Rudra watched a beast swing a heavy, jagged claw with brutal speed, cleanly severing a woman's head from her shoulders. The head bounced across the earth with a sickening, wet thud, rolling through the mud until it stopped right at Rudra's feet.
He looked down. His breath hitched, and his entire world shattered. Staring back up at him through the grime and blood was his mother's lifeless face.
Paralyzed by the terrifying sight, Rudra’s mind went completely blank with a crushing, suffocating fear. His knees gave out, hitting the wet mud as his trembling hands slowly reached out to pull his mother’s head against his chest.
"Rudra! Help me!"
A high-pitched voice pierced through the roaring thunder. Through the smoke and flying embers, Rudra saw his younger brother running toward him with tears streaming down his face. But before the boy could even take another step, a massive, muscular shadow lunged from the darkness. With a single, violent motion, the monster tore through the child, killing him instantly before his brother's eyes.
Rudra released his mother’s head, a primal scream tearing from his throat as he scrambled through the dirt toward his brother's body. He didn't make it.
A towering, terrifying shape materialized silently right behind him. Before the young boy could even turn his head, a cold, razor-sharp claw plunged straight through his chest from behind.
The sound of flesh tearing and bone snapping was loud, but it was eclipsed by the agony that followed. Agony exploded through his chest, white-hot and blinding, stealing the breath straight from his lungs. The creature sneered in his ear, a low, guttural vibration, before violently ripping its blood-soaked claw free. With a casual flick of its wrist, it threw his limp, broken body over the steep riverbank.
Rudra splashed into the freezing water, sinking rapidly into the depths of a river that had turned completely blood-red. As his vision faded into blackness and his consciousness slipped away, the deep water began to churn unnaturally around him. A strange water vortex formed around his falling form. A thick, oily black liquid swirled through the current, violently pulled toward the hole in his chest. The dark energy seeped into the fatal wound, bonding directly to his human heart and forcefully sealing the tissue before the current washed his unconscious body ashore.
Rudra jolted awake, bolting straight up in his sweat-stained sheets. His chest heaved violently as he sucked in heavy gasps of morning air, his face etched with lingering panic and a deep, simmering anger that burned like hot coals in his gut.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
A sharp, demanding knock rattled the front door downstairs, tearing his mind out of the memories of that blood-soaked night.
“Rudra! Rudra!” a familiar, rough voice barked from the thick morning fog outside the house.
“Grandpa Wan, I just woke up,” Rudra called back, his voice hoarse as he rubbed the heavy sleep and sweat from his eyes, quickly scrambling out of bed.
“Get ready fast!” Grandpa Wan insisted, his voice muffled by the heavy wood of the door. “Today is the Awakening Day for children like you. We don’t have a single second to waste—hurry up!”
“Okay, Grandpa. Give me a minute.”
Rudra stripped off his sweat-soaked shirt and reached for his clean clothes. Before putting them on, he stopped in front of a small, cracked mirror hanging on the wall, his eyes locking onto his own reflection. Right across the center of his chest sat a massive, ragged scar. The skin was rough, uneven, and twisted—a permanent reminder of the day his life was stolen from him.
That night was the beginning of my nightmare, he thought, tracing the jagged, thick edges of the mark with his fingertips. His hand slowly clenched into a hard fist, his knuckles turning white. I will get stronger. I'll make sure they pay for what they did.
The morning air was crisp and freezing as Rudra and Grandpa Wan rode toward the local academy in a creaking, old horse-drawn cart.
Grandpa Wan, exhausted from the early morning start, tipped his hat forward over his eyes and fell fast asleep in the back, snoring softly against the rhythmic, bumpy movement of the wooden wheels. Rudra, however, couldn't find a single second of rest. He stared out at the passing landscape, his mind entirely consumed by thoughts of the upcoming Awakening Test.
This was the biggest day of his life, a high-stakes moment that only mattered to those who had successfully pushed their mortal bodies to the absolute limit. For years, he had endured brutal training to unlock his internal energy channels. Today was the day he would find out if his hard work would pay off. Today, the survivors would receive a core, allowing them to finally cultivate raw energy and gain true strength in a world ruled by power.
With a loud, metallic groan from the axle, the wooden cart ground to a halt.
Rudra stepped down onto the smooth cobblestones, standing in front of the Grand Academy Hall. It was an ancient, massive stone building that had been shut down and abandoned many years ago, its history lost to time. Now, its towering, silent stone walls were only ever unlocked for a single day each year—the day of the annual Awakening Test.
Taking a long, steadying breath to calm his racing heart, Rudra pushed through the heavy entry doors and walked into the grand hall, joining a tense crowd of youths waiting anxiously for their futures to be decided.

The chatter inside the grand stone hall cut off instantly as a man with sharp, gray hair walked into the room. He didn't utter a single word, but with every step his heavy boots took against the floor, a suffocating aura radiated from his body. The invisible pressure slammed down onto the room like a falling block of stone, making the air feel thick, cold, and incredibly hard to breathe.
The youths began whispering nervously among themselves, their voices shaking under the weight of the man's presence.
“Look at his pressure... he’s a Caster. A true 2nd Rank Mage,” one whispered from the front.
In the exact center of the hall sat a massive stone table holding a crystal orb that swirled with a faint, mystical energy. Ten to fifteen youths waited in uneven, tense lines before it. Looking around, Rudra quickly realized that almost everyone there was well over the age of twenty—adults who had spent decades conditioning their bodies, taking their final shot at a future. Only Rudra and three other teenagers stood out at the very back of the line. Yet, every single person present had earned their place, having unlocked their Seven Chakra Gates through years of brutal training
.
The gray-haired man stood tall by the table and scanned the young crowd with piercing eyes. “Hello, everyone. I am Brake, an Earth-Level Mage. Today, you will take the Awakening Test. Before we begin, I want to clarify exactly what cultivation means.”
He paused, letting his sharp gaze drill into the anxious candidates. “When all seven of your internal Chakras are unlocked, your elemental power reaches a new state called Awakening. This is where your true cultivation journey begins.”
Brake gestured toward the swirling stone orb. “This is the Life Crystal. It holds the pure power of raw life energy. Your test is simple: you just need to touch it and transfer your internal elemental energy inside. The stone will read your potential and awaken your elemental power into one of two different cores: an Astra or a Mantra.”
He raised a stern, calloused hand, his voice echoing off the ancient walls. “The Astra is a permanent weapon. If you manifest an Astra, you begin the journey of a Knight warrior. There are three paths a Knight can take from here: Attacker Knights, whose Astras manifest as offensive weapons like swords, spears, maces, or axes; Tank Knights, who perfectly balance defense and attack with massive shields and heavy blades; and Assassin Knights, who manifest dual daggers or spiked ropes.”
“The Mantra,” Brake continued, his eyes narrowing slightly, “is for Mages. When a Mantra awakens, a unique Wisdom Mark appears permanently on your forehead. Mages gain absolute control over their element, and they are extremely rare.”
With the rules established, the test began immediately. The older youths stepped up to the table first.
The first boy walked forward, his fingers trembling with nerves as he reached out and touched the smooth surface of the crystal. Instantly, a bright, golden light flared out from the stone. The boy's internal Chakra points ignited with a sudden, violent surge of energy, causing his feet to leave the ground entirely as he floated in mid-air. The elemental power inside his body condensed rapidly, forming a solid Astra Core. With a sharp crack of frost, a physical sword and a heavy shield made of pure, jagged ice materialized tightly in his grip.
Brake smiled faintly, giving a short, approving nod. "An Ice Astra. Good."
Next, a young girl stepped up to the stone table. The moment her palms pressed against the surface, the crystal glowed with a brilliant, blinding radiance that lit up every dark corner of the grand stone hall. Her affinity was Light. As the energy swirled around her, a glowing, intricate crest burned itself permanently into the skin of her forehead—the rare Light Element Mantra.
“It’s a miracle!” Brake exclaimed, his eyes widening in genuine shock as the heavy pressure around his body wavered. “A Light Element Mantra is exceptionally rare and powerful. Train well, girl, and you will become a great Mage.”
The third teenager, another young girl, stepped forward next. Her affinity was Wind. When her hands touched the smooth stone, the crystal hummed with high-frequency vibrations, sending a howling gust of wind cutting through the entire room. A pair of permanent, razor-sharp Wind Blades formed tightly around her forearms as her chosen Astra weapon.
Finally, the entire hall went completely quiet. The atmosphere turned heavy, and all eyes landed on the back of the line. It was Rudra’s turn.
He stood up, clenching his fists until his knuckles turned bloodless and white. He walked down the center aisle toward the stone table, his heart thudding violently against his ribs with every step. He stopped before the table, took a shallow breath, and placed his palms flat against the surface of the crystal.
Instantly, the crystal orb shuddered. A terrifying, pitch-black energy violently blasted outward from the stone, expanding through the room like a physical wave.
The warm light from the high windows and the burning torches vanished instantly, swallowed by total darkness. The entire grand hall was plunged into a pitch-black void. People shrieked in absolute panic, scrambling blindly in the dark as a crushing weight descended upon their shoulders.
Slowly, the dark energy began to recede, pulling back toward the center of the room to reveal Rudra floating high above the stone floor. He was a literal storm of raw, unbridled power. His dual elements—searing, roaring crimson Fire and violent, crackling purple Lightning—swirled around his body like twin dragons fighting fiercely for dominance. And in his right hand, gripped with intense force, he held a long, heavy, pitch-black spear that seemed to actively swallow the very air around it.
Brake and the remaining students stood frozen to the spot, utterly stunned, their breaths catching in their throats as they stared up at the impossible sight.
What kind of twisted energy is this? Brake thought, a cold sweat breaking out across his neck as his knees trembled slightly under the boy's passive aura. The room remained dead silent, the heavy, dark pressure radiating off Rudra making it physically difficult for anyone else to stand upright.
Sensing the growing panic and confusion in the room, Brake quickly cleared his dry throat, desperate to avoid any unnecessary trouble or attention from the royal capital.
“He possesses two elements," Brake announced loudly to the room, his voice strained. "It is rare, but the awakening test always looks different when twin elements collide. However... history shows that people born with two elements never possess the capacity to cross the 4th rank warrior level. Best of luck to you, boy.”
Rudra didn't argue or shout. He offered a quiet, respectful nod, letting the fire, lightning, and the black spear recede back into his body as his boots touched the solid ground again.
Brake quickly gathered his things, his booming voice echoing one last time through the hall. “In three months, the Elite Academy Joint Examination will be held. All of you, be ready for that. Let's see if, at least this time, anyone from a village can actually force their way into the 15 Elite Academies.”
With a sudden wave of his sleeve, Brake's earth aura flared, and he vanished entirely from the hall, leaving the youths in a state of absolute shock.
That night, the village was dead quiet, shrouded in a peaceful silence. Rudra sat silently on a wooden chair in his small, dimly lit room, gazing out the small window at the pale full moon hanging in the sky. He could feel it—an unusual, turbulent rhythm shifting violently deep inside his chest.
Closing his eyes, he pulled his legs up onto the wooden seat, crossing them and entering a deep state of meditation to see exactly what had changed within his body.
In the vast, dark expanse of his internal Soul Sea, the scenery was utterly chaotic. A mysterious, corrupt black ooze was bubbling up from the deepest depths of his consciousness. Right in the center of the void, his newly awakened black spear stood driven deep into the floor. As he watched in astonishment, the black fluid and the spear began slowly drawing together, merging into one single, heavy entity that sent violent ripples crashing across his entire soul
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A sharp, heavy knock at the front door downstairs suddenly shattered Rudra's intense focus, tearing his mind violently back to the physical world. His eyes snapped open in the dark, his breathing shallow and rapid.
Downstairs, Grandpa Wan pulled the heavy wooden door open, completely surprised to find two powerful persons stands there.
“Oh, Village Chief Deva and Lord Luna... what brings the two of you here at this hour? Please, come inside,” Grandpa Wan welcomed, stepping aside and gesturing them into the main hall.
The group gathered tightly in the center of the house, the atmosphere turning incredibly tense.
“I heard that your grandson successfully awakened his Astra today,” Chief Deva said, his eyes narrowed, sharp and calculating in the dim lamplight. “I also heard that his awakening was... remarkably unique. We are here to take a brief look at him ourselves. How is he faring?”
“He is currently meditating up in his room,” Grandpa Wan replied, his face turning entirely serious as he led the way toward the creaking wooden stairs. “I will take you up to see him.”
The three men quietly pushed open the door to Rudra's bedroom. The boy was sitting perfectly still on the floor, lost deep in his trance—but the moment the lantern light hit his body, everyone froze in absolute horror.
Something was horribly, terrifyingly wrong. From the very center of Rudra's bare chest, right along the rough, jagged edges of his five-year-old scar, a thick web of dark, unnatural veins was creeping outward across his skin. The black lines pulsed with a faint, corrupted light, spreading down his arms and climbing up his neck like a live parasite, turning his entire nervous system pitch-black.
Deep within his locked soul sea, something ancient and terrible was beginning to open its eyes.

The Destruction Entity and the Forbidden Seal
Deep within his Soul Sea, a cataclysmic crisis was unfolding. The mysterious, black liquid tethered to Rudra’s heart began violently dragging its entire mass toward his newly awakened black spear. The moment the two conflicting forces touched, the fusion unleashed a terrifying wave of pressure. Rudra's mortal, uncultivated body simply wasn't built to contain such a massive weight. Outside, in the physical world, his flesh began to fracture under the immense strain.
Back in the dim bedroom, Lord Luna and Chief Deva recoiled in pure shock. Rudra’s body was visibly warping before their eyes, his skin flushing a dangerous, bruised black as the dark veins pulsed violently against his throat.
As a powerful 7th Rank Dark Mage, Luna recognized the deadly symptoms instantly. "Something is tearing his Soul Sea apart!" she warned, her voice tight.
Stepping forward, Luna unleashed the full restraint of her massive cultivation. A suffocating wave of midnight-blue energy erupted from her core, instantly blanketing the bedroom in a heavy, protective barrier. The sheer kinetic force of her aura sent Grandpa Wan stumbling backward, his spine hitting the wooden wall hard as he gasped for air under the pressure.
"Third Soul Spirit, manifest!" Luna commanded.
In a blinding flash of dark light, a monstrous, three-eyed simian specter—the Dark Soul Monkey reared its terrifying head right behind her. As the beast bellowed into the night, its vertical third eye snapped open.
Simultaneously, a brilliant, intricate Wisdom Mark ignited on Luna’s forehead, granting her a matching third eye of divine sight. Piercing straight through flesh and bone, her vision dove deep into Rudra’s subconscious.
What she saw made her breath hitch. A volatile sea of dark energy was melting into the black spear. That weapon... Luna’s mind raced in sheer panic. It’s an Astra forged directly by the God of Destruction! Realizing the boy was seconds away from completely imploding, she shifted her hand signs with lightning speed. "Cosmic Serpent Seal, activate!"
Deep within Rudra's mind, the internal sky tore open. Massive, spectral serpents woven from pure dark energy descended into his Soul Sea, their fangs bared and dripping with runic power. Simultaneously, the three-eyed monkey unleashed a deafening roar. The violent sonic shockwave disrupted the fusion process, forcefully tearing the black cosmic liquid away from the black spear. Before the fluid could reconnect, the dark serpents coiled tightly around it, binding it from every side with unbreakable runic chains.
"Seal!" Luna cried out in the physical world.
With a final surge of her dark mana, the black liquid was entirely suppressed. Slowly, the terrifying dark corruption receded from Rudra’s chest, the black lines fading as his veins returned to a normal human hue.
His chest heaving violently, Rudra slowly opened his eyes, coughing as he sucked in the cool morning air. The suffocating pressure was gone, replaced by the sight of two incredibly powerful figures standing alongside his trembling grandfather.
Luna stepped back, exhaling a breath she didn't realize she was holding. "My name is Luna, a 7th Rank Mage," she introduced calmly, smoothing down her robes before gesturing to the heavily armored man beside her. "And this is my disciple, Deva, a 5th Rank warrior and your current Village Chief."
Recognizing the immense status of the legendary figures standing in his small room, Rudra quickly stood up and bowed his head in deep respect. "Greetings, Lord Luna, Chief Deva."
Deva stepped forward, his sharp eyes scanning the young boy with intense curiosity. "My son, Nayan, was in the testing hall today. He told me your Awakening Test caused the ambient light to vanish entirely. I came here expecting a minor anomaly, but this... do you have any idea why the Life Crystal reacted to you with such total darkness?"
Rudra kept his posture steady, though his mind was racing. "I assumed it was because I possess dual elements, Chief."
Luna shook her head, her grim expression hardening. "Having twin elements can cause a brief energy fluctuation, boy, but it does not summon a void. The truth is much heavier than that. The Awakening Test is normally monitored by the minor Elemental Gods. They are the ones who hand out standard Astras and Mantras to common warriors."
She began to pace slowly across the creaking floorboards, her dark robes rustling in the quiet night. "But in the entire documented history of our world, there have only been two instances where a member of the Supreme God Trio personally intervened. Three hundred years ago, in the Eastern Kingdom, a young girl touched the crystal and was bathed in a glorious, holy white light—she was chosen by the God of the Universe. Exactly one month later, in the Western Kingdom, a boy was chosen by the God of Creation. That was the last time a Supreme God showed their face to humanity."
Luna stopped her pacing, her three eyes locking tightly onto Rudra’s pale face. "Today, after three centuries of total silence, the sky went black because you have been chosen by the final member of the Trio: The God of Destruction. You carry a piece of a Death Cosmic Entity inside your heart."
Rudra’s hand instinctively flew to his chest scar, his fingers gripping the twisted skin. He realized with a sudden jolt of absolute fear that she was talking about the exact black liquid that had healed his fatal claw wound in the freezing river five years ago.
"In the ancient era, before humanity even existed, there was only one massive continent," Luna explained, her voice dropping to a low, serious tone. "The Primordial Monsters and the Elements lived together in a state of endless war. Because there was no concept of time, nature, or death, the casualties meant absolutely nothing. The war dragged on uselessly for thousands of years."
"Eventually, the God of Destruction grew weary of the stalemate. Descending upon the bloody battlefield, his mere presence froze both colossal armies in their tracks. 'You wage war only because you are immortal,' the God declared to them. 'Therefore, I grant you the law of mortality. What is born must eventually taste death.' He left them with that absolute cosmic law, forcing a natural balance onto the world."
"Desperate for sanctuary from this new mortality, the King of Elements prayed to the Supreme God Trio for centuries until they finally answered. The King asked for a peaceful realm where his kin could live without constant slaughter. Impressed that the winning side chose peace over tyranny, the God of the Universe granted the request. He elevated the elements into Gods to govern the laws of nature, but he cursed the Primordial Monsters for their innate, destructive selfishness. He decreed that monsters would never know unity, mature intelligence, or the warmth of love."
Luna raised her slender hand, projecting a small, glowing illusion of the cosmos into the center of the dark room. "The God of Creation then forged the Heaven Dimension for the Elemental Gods, designed the perfect laws of nature for the Earth, and banished the monsters into the underground Abyssal Dimension of total darkness. To maintain the ultimate balance of departed souls, Hell was created."
"During that grand creation, five Primal Entities were born to govern the very fabric of reality: the Life Entity, the Sky Entity, the Space Entity, the Death Entity, and the Time Entity. For centuries, the holy seals held. But two hundred and fifty years ago, the monsters lurking in the dark discovered the hidden resting places of the Space and Life Entities. Using their stolen powers, they forced open the dimensional gates directly to Earth. They have already quietly seeded themselves across the globe."
Luna lowered her hand, the cosmic illusion vanishing into thin air. "The problem, Rudra, is that a fragment of that ancient Death Cosmic Entity is currently fused to your human heart. If the Abyssal Monsters realize what you carry, they will hunt you to the absolute ends of the earth to tear it from your chest. Worse, if that entity fully merges with your Destruction Astra before your soul is ready, it will completely override your mind and use your body to destroy everything."
She stepped forward and placed a firm hand on his bare shoulder.
"My Cosmic Serpent Seal will hold the entity at bay for now. But you must train harder than anyone else in this academy. You must become a powerful warrior before that seal inevitably breaks, or you will become a mindless puppet to the dark."
Rudra straightened his spine, the lingering fear in his chest hardening into an absolute, unyielding resolve. "Lord Luna... I will get stronger than anyone in this world. I won't let it control me."
Chief Deva smiled faintly, nodding his head in approval. "We have three months before the elite academies' test officially begins. I am personally training my son and two other prodigies at my estate. You are welcome to join our sessions anytime, boy."
"If you feel even a slight tremor in your Soul Sea," Luna added strictly, her three eyes narrowing, "you inform us immediately."
"Yes, madam," Rudra replied, his fist clenching tightly.
The cosmic stakes were set, and a terrifying weight now rested on his shoulders. But thousands of miles away, an even darker plot was already brewing in the shadows of a corrupted throne.
