Devil's Quiet Wife

Episode 1

A private dining room. High ceilings, low lighting. The kind of place where powerful men say quiet things.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
(❄ sets a glass down on the table without looking up) You're late.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄ pulls out the chair across from him, unhurried) Traffic on the bridge. New York doesn't move for anyone. Not even us.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
(❄ finally looks up) Sit.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄ already sitting, surveying the room once before settling) You chose a quiet place. I respect that.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄I don't need an audience for this.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
❄ Neither do I. (pauses) Which is why we're here and not at a table with lawyers.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄ The western corridor dispute has gone on long enough. Your men, my territory. My men, your supply lines. Neither of us wins this way.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄ leaning back, unhurried) No. Neither of us does.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄ I have a proposal. One that ends it cleanly.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄ watching him) I'm listening.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄Not a negotiation. Not another agreement that falls apart in six months. Something permanent.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄quiet) What kind of permanent?
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄A marriage.
Silence. Cesare lifts his glass slowly.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
❄Between.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄My daughter. Your son.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄stillness settling over him) Reva.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄She's 23. Educated. No complications.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄carefully) You're describing her like a term in a contract.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄That's what this is.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄setting his glass down) And Zaid. You've spoken to him.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄That's your side to manage.
Cesare says nothing for a moment. He looks at the table. A man calculating — but also, somewhere underneath, something else moving.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
❄The territories.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄Split cleanly at the river. Documented. Binding. The shipping routes stay joint — both families, equal access.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
❄The eastern contracts.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄Come with the alliance.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄meeting his eyes) That's generous.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
(❄flat) I want this done.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄a long pause) You have a daughter you're willing to hand to my family and you want it done.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄ I have a daughter who will do what is required. And I have a business that needs stability.
Something shifts in Cesare's expression. Not quite judgment. Just — noticing.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
❄She knows.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄She will.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄quietly) I see.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
❄Your answer.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(❄standing slowly, buttoning his jacket) You'll have it. Give me a few days.
Dorian Voss
Dorian Voss
(❄nodding once) A few days.
They shake hands. The kind of handshake that has already decided something.
Cesare walks out into the corridor. Stops for a moment in the quiet. Thinks about a girl he has never met, who will soon belong to his world. Thinks about his son. Thinks about what he is about to bring home
Then he walks.

Episode 2

A boardroom. Floor-to-ceiling glass, clean lines, the kind of silence money buys. Zaid sits at the head of the table. Still. Like he was placed there.
Vincent
Vincent
(clicking through slides) Quarter three projections are ahead of schedule. The eastern expansion is moving exactly as planned. I think we can all agree — this partnership has been nothing short of exceptional.
Polite agreement from the room. Nods. The performance of confidence.
Zaid says nothing. Watches Vincent the way a man watches something he has already decided about.
Vincent
Vincent
(finishing, turning to face him) That's everything from our side. Zaid — your thoughts?
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(quiet, unhurried) Nico.
Nico Ferri
Nico Ferri
(standing from the far end of the table, pulling up a new presentation) Our turn.
The screen changes. The atmosphere changes with it.
Slide one — a photograph. Vincent at a restaurant. Across from him, a man everyone in the room recognizes. A Moretti soldier. Slide two — another photo. An envelope changing hands. Slide three — a wire transfer. Numbers. Dates. Everything clean, everything documented.
The room goes very still.
Vincent
Vincent
(standing abruptly) That — that's not what it looks like —
Nico Ferri
Nico Ferri
(to the room, calm) Everyone out.
No one hesitates. Chairs push back. Footsteps. The door closes.
Just the three of them now.
Vincent
Vincent
(turning to Zaid, voice cracking at the edges) Zaid. Listen to me. I can explain every one of those —
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(not moving) How long.
Vincent
Vincent
It isn't — I wasn't —
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(same tone, same stillness) How long, Vincent.
Vincent
Vincent
(breaking) Eight months. They approached me. I didn't have a choice, they had leverage, I swear to you I never gave them anything that mattered —
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(standing slowly) Eight months.
Vincent
Vincent
I was going to tell you. I was looking for a way out. You have to believe me —
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(picking up the letter opener from the table, turning it once in his hand, examining it like it's mildly interesting) I believe you were afraid.
Vincent
Vincent
Then you understand —
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄I believe you thought fear was a reason.
Vincent
Vincent
(taking a step back) Zaid. Please. We've known each other for six years —
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(crossing the distance between them without hurry) Seven.
Vincent opens his mouth. Nothing comes out.
Zaid moves clean and final — one hand gripping his collar, one motion across the throat. The sound is quiet. The act is not.
Vincent slides down against the boardroom table. The carpet darkens
Zaid steps back. Straightens his cuff. His breathing has not changed. His expression has not changed. He sets the letter opener on the table with a small, precise click.
Nico Ferri
Nico Ferri
(from across the room, low) Clean team?
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(already moving toward the door) Send them in.
He pauses at the door. Looks back once — not at Vincent. At the room. At the evidence still lit up on the screen.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
❄(quietly, to no one) Seven years and he thought I wouldn't find out.
He leaves. The door closes behind him without a sound.

Episode 3

Zaid's private office. Dark wood, clean desk, nothing unnecessary.
He settles into his chair, jacket still on, and opens his laptop.
The kind of man who doesn't stop working just because someone died an hour ago.
A knock. The door opens.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(without looking up) You were in the Voss meeting.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(closing the door behind him) News travels fast.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
Looking up now) It wasn't news. You had it on your calendar. Sit down.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(sitting across from him, unhurried) He came with a proposal.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
Territory dispute resolution.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
Among other things.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(studying his father) What other things.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(a breath) A wedding alliance.
Silence. Zaid's expression doesn't shift. He simply looks at his father and waits.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
Between you. And his daughter.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(leaning back slowly) What are the terms.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
Western corridor — clean split at the river. Documented and binding. Joint access on the shipping routes, equal standing. The eastern contracts come with the alliance.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(quiet for a moment, processing) The eastern contracts.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
All of them.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(almost to himself) He wants this badly.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
He wants it permanent.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(meeting his father's eyes) And the girl. She's agreed.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(a pause) Dorian said she will do what is required.
Something flickers across Zaid's face. Not quite what Cesare hoped to see.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(a slow, flat nod) Then after the wedding she'll do what I say as well.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(stillness) Excuse me.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
I'm saying she understands her role. Which makes this straightforward.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(standing, voice dropping to something quiet and firm) Let me be very clear with you. I did not raise you to speak about a woman that way. About anyone.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
It wasn't an insult. It was an observation.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
It was exactly the kind of thinking that will make me call Dorian Voss tomorrow and tell him no.
Zaid looks at his father. He knows that tone. He has known it his entire life — it is the one tone Cesare uses when he has already made up his mind.
A beat. Zaid's jaw tightens. He doesn't raise his voice. He never does.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(measured, controlled) I understand what the alliance requires. I will honor it. All of it.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(watching him carefully) Including the girl.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(a long pause) I am ready for this wedding alliance. And to take her as my wife.
Cesare holds his gaze for a moment longer. Then — satisfied with what he finds, or choosing to be — he nods.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
Good. That's a good decision.
He moves toward the door. Stops with his hand on the frame. Something warm enters his voice.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
Your mother is going to be very happy.
Zaid Cavalieri
Zaid Cavalieri
(the faintest shift in his expression — not quite a smile, but something adjacent) Yes. She will be.
Cesare Cavalieri
Cesare Cavalieri
(quietly, almost to himself) At least someone in this family shows feeling.
He leaves. The door clicks shut.
Zaid sits alone. Looks at his desk for a moment. Then — slowly — he opens his laptop again. Back to work. Like it's any other evening. Like his life didn't just change.
Except his eyes stay on the screen without moving. Just for a few seconds.
Then he starts typing.
