How Can The CEO Fall For A Dumb Girl Like Me?

CHAPTER 1: THE SPONSORS FROM FAR AWAY

The whole school was gathered inside the covered court, seated in rows of wooden benches — noisy, restless, and barely paying attention to the announcements. The program was about to begin, and most students were wondering what the event was all about.

Among them was Mikaela Marquis. Seventeen years old and a senior high school student, if anyone asked about her academic performance, the answer was simple: she was far from being called “bright.”

Mikaela was the type who always received low scores in quizzes, regularly attended remedial classes, and often left her teachers shaking their heads in confusion whenever she was called to recite. Mathematics felt like a foreign language to her; Science was just a collection of complicated terms that never quite sank in; and History was something she forgot the moment the final bell rang. But despite her struggles in the classroom, she was never a bad person — she was simply… naturally not inclined toward studying.

And on top of that? She was incredibly lively.

She laughed loudly, talked often, and rarely stayed quiet even when teachers were already glancing in her direction. She was friendly, full of energy, and could strike up a conversation with anyone sitting beside her — even if it meant ignoring whoever was speaking at the front.

“Mikaela, could you please keep your voice down for a while?” her classmate whispered, covering one ear. “The guests might hear you.”

Mikaela just grinned and shrugged her shoulders. “This is taking forever! No one is speaking yet, so we might as well chat while we wait.”

Just then, the principal walked up to the microphone, and slowly, the noise across the hall died down.

“Good morning, students and teachers,” he began, his voice formal and loud enough to reach every corner of the court. “Today, we have very special visitors with us. They have traveled all the way from Russia, representing one of the most elite and powerful companies in the world — the Volkov Group.”

A soft murmur rippled through the crowd. Russia? That was thousands of kilometers away.

The principal gestured toward the long table set up on the stage, where several men sat beside the school officials. They were tall, sharp‑looking, dressed in well‑tailored suits, and carried themselves with a serious, authoritative presence. Beside them were translators and staff members, ensuring everything proceeded smoothly.

“These gentlemen,” the principal continued, “are here not just for a casual visit. Their company has chosen our school to be one of their beneficiaries. They will be providing free textbooks, school supplies, and financial support for students in need. But that is not all.”

He paused, letting the curiosity in the room grow.

“The Volkov Group is also opening a very rare opportunity. They are looking for students who will be given the chance to study abroad — fully funded, with all expenses covered, at their own institutions overseas. They have made it clear that this selection will not depend only on grades. They are looking for character, willingness to learn, and potential that does not always appear on a report card.”

Mikaela listened, but inside her mind, she simply dismissed the idea. Study abroad? Fully paid? That must be only for the top students. If I can barely keep up with my lessons here, how much more in another country? There is no way this is for someone like me.

She crossed her arms, leaned back in her seat, and went back to observing the people around her — still cheerful, still laughing at small things, and convinced that this whole program had nothing to do with her.

But what she did not notice was that while the officials were speaking, one of the men from the Volkov Group was looking out over the crowd. His sharp, observant eyes scanned across the rows of students, until they finally settled on her — the girl who was laughing, talking, and moving freely, completely unbothered by the formal atmosphere of the event.

To everyone else, she was just the loud, average student who never earned high marks. But to him, she stood out more than all the quiet, high‑achieving students combined.

And that was the moment Mikaela Marquis’s ordinary, unremarkable life began to shift toward a path she had never imagined.

CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET SKILLS

As the principal continued explaining the details of the program, the students around Mikaela began whispering excitedly. Some were already imagining themselves studying in a foreign country, while others were quickly calculating their own grades, hoping they might meet the requirements.

But Mikaela? She just sat there looking bored, shaking her head slightly, and thinking that this opportunity had nothing to do with her.

When one of her classmates leaned over and asked, “Hey, Mikaela! Are you going to apply? Everything is fully covered, right? That would be such a great chance!”

Mikaela simply waved her hand lazily and answered bluntly, “No thanks. I don’t want to. I already find it hard enough to keep up with classes here, so how much more would it be somewhere else? I would probably just get lost or embarrass myself. I’ll pass.”

To everyone else, her answer made perfect sense. They all knew her academic record was nothing to be proud of — so why would she even consider something this challenging? Even Mikaela herself firmly believed that she had no place in such a prestigious program.

However, what no one knew was that behind those low scores and easy‑going personality, she possessed a hidden talent that no one had ever suspected.

Growing up, her aunt had a long‑time partner who was originally from Russia. He visited their home often, and when Mikaela was still a young child, she would follow him around, ask endless questions, and spend hours playing near him. At first, she only mimicked the sounds he made and picked up random words and phrases just for fun. But as the years went by, she found herself actually understanding more and more of what he said.

And since she easily grew bored with standard school subjects, she decided to teach herself other languages as well — Italian, Spanish, and even a little bit of French and German. She did it purely out of curiosity and interest, not because she wanted to impress anyone or earn higher grades.

The only problem was that she never had the chance to use these skills.

At school, no one spoke these languages. Her family and friends only used English or their local dialect. There was no one to practice with, no one to hold a conversation with — so she simply kept this ability to herself, like a secret she saw no reason to share. It felt useless anyway, she thought. If she could not use it, why mention it?

So while the officials were still speaking, and the translators were busy repeating every sentence in English, Mikaela understood every single word that the Russian visitors were saying among themselves.

They were discussing which schools to visit next, reviewing the list of applicants, and even making observations about the students present.

“Most of them look too timid to even meet our eyes,” one man said in Russian. “I wonder if any of them would have the confidence to adapt to our way of life and culture.”

“We are not looking for perfect scholars,” another replied. “We are looking for those who can learn quickly, adjust well, and show real potential. Grades alone do not always reveal what a person is truly capable of.”

Mikaela listened to every word clearly, but she gave no sign of understanding. She kept her face neutral, acted as if the conversation was just meaningless noise to her, and continued fidgeting with the edge of her uniform. She did not want to draw attention to herself, and she certainly did not want anyone asking how she knew what they were saying.

After all, in her mind, What good is being good at languages if I struggle with Mathematics and Science? That is surely not what they are looking for anyway.

But what she did not realize was that the man who had been watching her earlier — the one who appeared the most serious and authoritative — had also noticed something. He observed how her eyes shifted slightly when his colleagues spoke in their native language, and how her expression showed no confusion at all, but rather the quiet focus of someone following every word.

As the program continued, he made a silent decision.

She said she was not interested. She said no.

But he had a strong feeling that this girl was hiding far more than she showed — and he was not the type to accept “no” as a final answer just yet.

CHAPTER 3: THE ACCIDENTAL REVEAL

After the main announcement, the program moved on to the distribution of school supplies, books, and vouchers. The students lined up in an orderly yet noisy manner, each waiting their turn to receive what was being given.

The representatives from the Volkov Group stood beside the teachers, handing out the items personally. One by one, students stepped forward, accepted their packages, and expressed their thanks — some shyly, some politely, all speaking in English or the local language.

“Thank you, sir.”

“Thank you very much.”

“We appreciate this, sir.”

The process went smoothly until it was Mikaela’s turn.

She walked up to the table with her usual relaxed, unbothered posture, her hands hanging loosely at her sides. Standing directly in front of her was the same man who had been watching her from the stage earlier — tall, broad‑shouldered, with sharp gray eyes and an air of quiet authority that made most people feel nervous just looking at him.

He handed her the bundle of books, notebooks, and other supplies. Then, leaning forward slightly, he spoke directly to her in English, though his voice carried a deep, distinct Russian accent.

“Good day. I hope these will be of use to you in your studies.”

Mikaela simply shrugged her shoulders casually and took the items from his hands without hesitation. Before she even realized what she was doing, the words slipped out naturally — in perfect, fluent Russian, without any trace of hesitation or accent.

"Спасибо. Я уверена, что они будут очень полезны."

“Thank you. I am sure they will be very useful.”

For a split second, a short silence hung between them.

Mikaela blinked, suddenly aware of what had just come out of her mouth. But instead of panicking or making a big deal out of it, she just gave him a small, blank nod, turned around, and walked away as if nothing unusual had occurred.

She caught up with her friend, who was already a few steps ahead, and spoke in her usual loud, carefree tone, as if the entire exchange had never happened.

“Come on, let’s head straight to the canteen after this! I am starving, and this whole program is already giving me a headache.”

Her friend just laughed and followed along, completely unaware of what had just taken place.

But behind them, the man remained standing where he was, his hand still resting lightly on the table. His expression did not change much — still serious, still composed — but his eyes held a clear glint of surprise and interest that he did not bother to hide.

He had expected her to stutter, to look confused, or to reply in broken English just like everyone else. He certainly had not expected her to answer in his own language — flawlessly, naturally, as if she spoke it every single day.

And what intrigued him even more was how she acted afterward. She did not boast, did not stop to explain herself, and did not even glance back to see his reaction. She simply walked away, as if speaking Russian was the most ordinary thing in the world.

He turned slightly toward one of his colleagues standing beside him, keeping his voice low as he continued watching her retreating figure.

“Interesting… very interesting indeed.”
