* 1 year and 3 months later *
(PoV ZIE)
A whole year has passed—yet nothing has changed. He still treats me like a stranger, as if I never exist. I gave everything to be his wife. I tried so hard to be obedient, to wait up late every night just to welcome him home, to cook his favorite meals before he left and when he returned. But all he ever says is:
“I’m not hungry. Eat it yourself. You don’t have to wait.”
I don’t know what else to do. Did I do something wrong? Why is he so cold to me? His eyes hold no warmth when they look at me—yet the moment my sister is near, he smiles. His whole demeanor shifts, so bright and gentle, nothing like the man I know. The difference cuts deeper than any blade. And now… I find myself burning with jealousy toward my own sister. What does she have that I don’t? I wonder, my heart heavy and hollow.
It’s already so late. Will he even come home tonight? Or will he stay away, just to avoid me?
Suddenly—my phone rings.
[Ring… ring… ring…]
I reach for it with trembling hands. The caller ID glows bright, cruel and clear:
HUSBAND
The phone rings late, the line crackling with loud music and raucous laughter in the background. Lu’s voice is thick, slurred, heavy with whiskey—he’s not even talking directly to me at first, just muttering loud enough for me to hear, as if he’s spilling it all to his buddy beside him.
“You know what, man?” he laughs, bitter and loose, his words dragging. “I messed up. Big time.”
His friend asks something I can’t make out, and Lu snorts, loud and careless—every word like a knife twisted slow.
“Zie… his good, yeah? But his not the one I should’ve married.” He pauses, takes a long gulp, then says it—cold, plain, and shattering. “It was never supposed to be her. I should’ve married her sister instead.
He doesn’t even realize I’m on the line, or if he does, he doesn’t care. He just keeps talking like I’m nothing more than a ghost listening in on his careless confession.
“Yeah… I married the wrong person. And now I’m stuck.”
A roar of laughter bursts from the background. Then the line goes dead—no goodbye, no apology, just silence.
I stand there, phone pressed to my ear, my heart shattering into a thousand quiet pieces. He didn’t say it to hurt me—he just said it because it was the truth he’d been hiding all along. Even drunk, his heart belongs to her. And I… I was just the wrong choice.
(PoV ZIE )
The phone slips from my numb fingers, clattering softly against the cold floor—but I barely hear it.
My chest feels hollow, as if every breath is being torn out of me. The words echo in my head, sharp and unforgiving: I married the wrong person
I look at the table, still set with his favorite dishes—still warm, just like the love I’ve poured into every single day. But warmth means nothing when his heart has turned to ice.
I’m his wife. Yet I am the one left alone in this cold, silent house, while he finds comfort in her arms. My own sister. The person I trusted most.
Tears spill over, hot and endless, tracing paths down my pale cheeks. I press a hand over my mouth to muffle the sob threatening to break free. What did I do wrong? I ask the empty air, my voice barely a whisper. Is my love not enough? Am I not enough?
The silence of the room wraps around me like a shroud. I am here, but I do not exist to him. I am his wife in name only—nothing more than a ghost haunting the home we were supposed to share.
Slowly, I sink to the floor, curling into myself as the pain swallows me whole. I have nothing left to wait for. Nothing left to give.
“Argh… my head hurts…” Lu groaned, holding his head.
He looked up and saw Xie Zie standing there quietly.
POV : LU
Why so quiet? Did something happen…?
“Lu, here — this soup I made for your hangover,”
Zie spoke in his usual soft voice.
Lu only nodded slowly.
POV : LU
…Maybe not.
Lu found himself watching Zie often lately.
Watching how he moved, ate, or stood —
he could hardly take his eyes away.
“I’m going out for a while,” Zie said gently.
“Just leave the bowl on the table once you finish.”
He gave a small smile before turning away.
Lu couldn’t deny it —
Zie He is a striking young boy standing at 5'5" with a slender, balanced build—his body and legs perfectly proportion
He has pale, smooth skin that contrasts beautifully with his jet-black hair, which frames his face softly. His features are exquisitely delicate and handsome—truly beautiful in every detail. His eyes are a mesmerizing deep dark gray, intense and expressive, with a tiny, charming mole resting just beside his right eye that adds a unique, captivating touch. His lips are naturally soft and pinkish, shaped gently, giving him a gentle yet memorable look. His frame is slim and elegant, with long, lean legs that match his torso perfectly, making his whole appearance graceful and well-balanced.
Zie was Gorgeous, lovely… truly one of a kind.
【POV: LU】
Where is he going? Maybe to his family?
Not that I care. Soon I’ll divorce him… and marry his sister.
That’s the only way to repay her for saving me.
But why does my chest ache all of a sudden?
Maybe it’s just the soup… it was too hot.
★ OFFICE ★
“Bro, what is it? It’s fun right… hahaha.
Fine my ass . My head still hurts… and my chest too,”
Lu said, glaring sharply at Kevin.
“Huh? What’s wrong with you?
Headache after drinking is normal, but chest pain?
I’ve never heard of that before,” Kevin said, confused.
【POV: LU】
What would you understand? You’ve got no brain anyway.
★ MEETING ★
Lu kept glancing at his phone every few seconds. He waited—waiting for a reply from Zie, but not a single message came through. Zie usually texted often, yet now… silence.
“Hey bro, what’s wrong?” Kevin asked.
“Nothing,” Lu snapped, voice sharp and cold, cutting the talk short.
【POV: KEVIN】
Why is he so tense? Something’s definitely wrong—he’s never this restless.
【POV: LU】
Where is he? Why isn’t he texting me? He always messages me… why nothing now? I’m worried—did something happen to him? It’s driving me crazy. I keep checking, waiting, but still no reply. Why is he so quiet? Why is he ignoring me? It’s so frustrating—this silence is killing me.
Kevin tapped Lu’s shoulder gently.
“Bro, the meeting is over. Why do you look so troubled?” (something must happened)
🥡 Back to Reality
That's for today
【POV: LU】
A strange, restless unease settling in— What is happening to me?
📍 OFFICE — 3:10 PM
Knock. Knock.
“Come in,” Lu called, his voice calm yet distant, his thoughts scattered.
“Sir, Miss Tian is here,” the secretary said gently, stepping aside.
Lu gave a brief, indifferent nod—his heart not in the moment at all.
“Bro, I’ve got to run—something urgent came up. Good luck,” Kevin said quickly, warm but hurried, before exiting.
Tian stepped inside, radiating bright, eager affection.
“Brother Lu… have you eaten yet?” she asked, her tone soft and sweet, full of fond expectation.
“I have,” Lu replied, offering only a faint, polite smile—one that never reached his eyes.
“Ah, but I made this specially for you—I really want you to try it,” she said, hopeful and proud, holding out the lunchbox like a treasure.
Lu sighed inwardly, reluctant yet too courteous to refuse. “Very well… I’ll have a bite.”
“Wonderful!” Tian beamed, her face lighting up with pure delight.
He lifted the lid and took a small taste—
but the flavor was bland, flat, and utterly forgettable.
It lacked the warmth, the care, the perfect, comforting taste of Zie’s soup—the one he’d had that morning, the one that still lingered in his memory.
A deep frown tugged sharply at his brows. Disappointment settled heavy in his chest.
This is nothing like his.
📍 OFFICE — CONTINUED
“It tastes bad, doesn’t it?” Tian asked, her face falling slightly.
Lu quickly forced a gentle smile. “No, it’s not that. I’m just full,” he said, brushing it off lightly.
【POV: LU】
I don’t like this taste at all. It’s nothing like the food Zie makes—this is terrible.
And why hasn’t he texted me yet? I should just go home.
“I’m sorry, Tian. I have something urgent to attend to,” Lu said, rising quickly. “If you need anything, just tell my secretary. Alright?”
He spoke in a hurry, eager to leave.
Before Tian could even reply, he was gone—rushing out of the room.
The moment he left, Tian’s soft, sweet expression shifted instantly into something cold and sharp.
✦ RING… RING… RING… ✦ (Phone Call)
“You know what to do,” Tian said into the phone, her voice now cold and ruthless.
“Yes, Miss Tian,” a man’s voice replied from the other end.
“Don’t worry, Brother Lu—soon we’ll be together,” she murmured, a cruel glint in her eyes. “I know you have feelings for me. But my brother is just a distraction to you. We must get rid of that distraction for good.”
🏠 LU’S VILLA
【POV: LU】
It’s so quiet here—too quiet. The silence feels heavy, like something is missing. Why isn’t he here to greet me? Why is the house so still? I hate this silence. Lu frowned, his mood darkening by the second.
He called out Zie’s name—again and again—but there was no answer. He searched every room, every corner, but Zie was nowhere to be found. Finally, he went out to the balcony, hoping to spot him there. Still nothing.
Then he noticed something odd: the balcony door was slightly ajar. He stepped closer and saw a single sheet of paper tucked beneath a glass on the small table. His heart skipped a beat as he pulled it out.
“What the hell is this?!”
It was a divorce paper—already signed in Zie’s neat handwriting. Lu’s hands trembled, rage and panic swelling in his chest. Is this some kind of sick joke? Does he really think he can just leave me like this?
He stormed straight to Zie’s room and threw the door open—empty. Not a single trace of him left behind.
You think you can run away from me, Zie? His face turned dark and stormy, eyes blazing with fury.
Suddenly, his phone rang. He answered sharply.
“Hello.” His voice was ice-cold.
On the other end, a nurse’s voice trembled:
“Sir… are you the husband of Mr. Xie Zie?”
“Yes. Why?” Lu snapped.
“Sir… your husband has been rushed to the hospital. He was in a serious car accident.”
“WHAT?! Which hospital? Tell me now!” Lu shouted, his blood turning to ice.
The nurse, terrified by his tone, answered quickly:
“General Hospital, sir! Please come at once—he’s in critical condition!”
