Ep 1 The Night the Blood King Returned
"Every kingdom has a legend. Every legend has a monster. And every monster was once a man."
Rain pounded against the towering walls of Blackthorn Kingdom, drenching the cobbled streets in silver. Thunder growled across the heavens, shaking stained-glass windows inside the Royal Academy of Knights.
Children huddled close to the fireplace while an elderly storyteller spoke in a voice barely louder than the crackling flames.
"There was once a king," the old man whispered, "whose throne was carved from obsidian... and whose crown was forged from the bones of his enemies."
The children stared, wide-eyed.
"He was not human."
A little girl clutched her blanket tighter.
"He never grew old."
Another child swallowed nervously.
"And when he drank blood..."
The storyteller leaned closer.
"...entire kingdoms disappeared."
A loud crack of thunder echoed outside.
The children screamed.
The old man smiled.
"They called him..."
"The Blood King."
Silence consumed the room.
"But don't worry," he chuckled.
"He's only a bedtime story."
Five hundred years later...
Steel clashed against steel.
Sparks flew across the training arena.
A young woman spun gracefully, ducking beneath a knight's sword before driving her wooden blade against his chest.
Thud.
The knight crashed onto the ground.
Silence.
Nearly fifty soldiers stood frozen.
Captain Rowan sighed.
"I warned you."
The defeated knight groaned.
"I almost had her."
Rowan laughed.
"No."
"You almost survived her."
Standing at the center of the arena, Katherine Ashford lowered her practice sword.
Sweat clung to strands of chestnut hair that had escaped her braid. Her emerald eyes remained calm, calculating every movement around her.
At twenty-four years old, she had become the youngest captain in the history of Blackthorn Kingdom.
Not because of her noble blood.
Not because of politics.
Because no one could defeat her.
She extended a hand toward the fallen knight.
He accepted it reluctantly.
"You dropped your left shoulder," Katherine said.
He frowned.
"What?"
"Right before your final strike."
"You hesitated."
"I saw it."
His ears turned red.
"You notice everything, don't you?"
She offered the faintest smile.
"I have to."
Captain Rowan approached, arms folded across his broad chest.
"If the royal tournament were tomorrow," he announced loudly, "our captain would leave every one of you crying."
Laughter spread through the arena.
One young soldier muttered,
"She probably scares monsters."
Another whispered,
"I'd rather fight a dragon."
Katherine rolled her eyes.
"They're exaggerating."
"No," Rowan replied.
"They're terrified."
Before anyone could answer...
The academy bell rang.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Every face changed.
That wasn't the training bell.
It was the emergency bell.
A stable boy burst through the gates, completely soaked from the rain.
"Captain!"
He struggled to breathe.
"The king requests your presence immediately!"
Inside Blackthorn Castle...
King Aldric stood before an enormous map spread across a stone table.
Generals surrounded him.
None of them looked hopeful.
As Katherine entered, every conversation stopped.
She bowed respectfully.
"Your Majesty."
The king nodded.
"Rise, Captain Ashford."
His voice carried unusual tension.
"We have received reports from the northern villages."
One general slid a bloodstained cloth across the table.
Katherine picked it up.
The crimson stains had turned almost black.
"No survivors," the general said quietly.
"Bandits?"
"No."
"Wild beasts?"
Again...
"No."
The king looked directly into Katherine's eyes.
"Entire villages."
"Gone."
Her expression hardened.
"How many?"
"Three."
"In two nights."
The room fell silent.
Katherine studied the map.
The attacks formed a perfect line stretching toward the Crimson Forest.
"The northern border," she murmured.
"Exactly."
Captain Rowan stepped forward.
"We've already sent soldiers."
"They never returned."
Another general swallowed.
"We found their horses."
"And the men?"
He hesitated.
"There wasn't enough left to bury."
No one spoke.
Finally Katherine asked,
"What do you need me to do?"
The king placed a sealed scroll into her hand.
"Ride north."
"Find whoever—or whatever—is responsible."
"And end it."
She nodded without hesitation.
"I leave within the hour."
Night had already fallen when Katherine and twelve royal knights crossed the northern bridge.
Rain continued to pour relentlessly.
The forest ahead seemed impossibly dark.
Almost alive.
Captain Rowan rode beside her.
"I don't like this."
"You never like anything," Katherine replied.
He smirked.
"Fair point."
The soldiers behind them laughed softly.
The tension eased...
Only for a moment.
Then...
Every horse stopped.
Not because their riders pulled the reins.
Because they refused to move.
One knight frowned.
"What's wrong with them?"
Another horse began trembling violently.
Katherine slowly lifted her gaze toward the forest.
No wind.
No birds.
No insects.
Nothing.
Complete silence.
She whispered,
"Listen."
Rowan frowned.
"I don't hear anything."
"Exactly."
The silence was unnatural.
Like the forest itself had stopped breathing.
Suddenly...
A scream echoed through the darkness.
It lasted only seconds.
Then...
Nothing.
Katherine's eyes narrowed.
"Village."
She pulled her sword free.
"Ride!"
The horses exploded forward.
Branches whipped against their armor as they charged deeper into the woods.
The smell reached them before the village did.
Smoke.
Burning wood.
Blood.
Far too much blood.
When the trees finally opened...
No one spoke.
Homes burned like funeral pyres.
The church had collapsed.
Bodies lay scattered across the streets.
Men.
Women.
Children.
Not a single survivor.
One knight vomited beside his horse.
Another whispered a prayer.
Katherine dismounted slowly.
Her boots splashed into crimson-stained mud.
She knelt beside a young mother.
Cold.
She searched for wounds.
Nothing.
No cuts.
No stab marks.
Only two tiny punctures near the woman's neck.
Katherine froze.
"No..."
She checked another body.
The same marks.
Another.
Again.
Again.
Again.
Every victim...
Had identical wounds.
Captain Rowan approached cautiously.
"What is it?"
She looked up.
Her voice barely rose above a whisper.
"They've all been drained."
Rowan stared at her.
"What do you mean?"
"There isn't any blood left."
A cold wind swept across the village.
The fires flickered wildly.
Then...
One of the soldiers shouted.
"Captain!"
Everyone turned.
Massive claw marks had been carved into the stone road itself.
Each mark was nearly six feet long.
No animal could have made them.
No human either.
A young knight's voice shook.
"My grandmother used to tell stories..."
Another immediately silenced him.
"Don't."
"But..."
"Don't say it."
Lightning split the sky.
For one brief second...
The moon emerged from behind the clouds.
Then...
Its silver light slowly changed.
Scarlet.
Deep crimson.
Every soldier stared upward in horror.
"The Crimson Moon..."
Someone dropped their sword.
Another fell to his knees.
"No..."
"It can't be."
The earth began to tremble.
Far beyond the ruined village...
Above the black cliffs overlooking the valley...
Ancient stone doors sealed for five centuries groaned open.
Dust filled the air.
Inside the forgotten throne room...
Two crimson eyes slowly opened.
And for the first time in five hundred years...
The Blood King awakened.
Some monsters kill with claws. Others kill with silence."
The Crimson Moon hung above the ruined village like an open wound in the sky.
Rain hissed against burning rooftops.
Smoke curled through the streets, carrying the metallic scent of blood and ash.
Katherine stood motionless in the center of the devastation, her silver sword drawn, her emerald eyes fixed on the distant cliffs.
The earth had stopped trembling.
But the silence was worse.
Every knight around her looked pale.
Captain Rowan stepped closer to Katherine.
Tell me you don't believe it," he said quietly.
Katherine didn't answer immediately.
She had spent her entire life dismissing the stories of the Blood King as superstition. A legend created to frighten children and keep travelers away from the Crimson Forest.
But legends did not leave villages full of bloodless corpses.
Legends did not turn the moon crimson.
And legends did not make hardened soldiers tremble.
Her grip tightened on her sword.
"I believe something is here," she said
Whether it's the Blood King or not… we'll find out."
A cold wind swept through the village.
The fires dimmed.
Every horse began screaming in terror.
Then came the footsteps.Slow,Measured,Impossible to ignore.
Katherine turned toward the entrance of the village.
A tall figure emerged from the darkness.
Black coat.
Pale skin that seemed almost luminous beneath the crimson moon.
His black hair fell across his forehead, and his eyes—his eyes glowed a deep, unnatural red.
The soldiers staggered backward immediately.
Gods…"It's him."The Blood King."
The stranger stopped several feet away.
He looked around the ruined village with an expression that was almost bored.
Then his gaze settled on Katherine.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke.
Katherine felt something she had never experienced before.
Not fear.Pressure
As if the air itself had become heavier in his presence.
The man tilted his head slightly.
Interesting," he said.
His voice was deep and calm, carrying effortlessly through the rain.
Most humans kneel when they see me."
Katherine raised her sword instead.
Most humans haven't spent their lives training to kill monsters."
A faint smile touched his lips.
Monster," he repeated thoughtfully. That's a new one."
Rowan stepped beside Katherine, sword drawn.
Captain, we should retreat."
Katherine didn't move.
Are you responsible for this village?" she demanded.
The stranger's crimson eyes flicked toward the bodies scattered across the street.
No
The answer came too quickly
Katherine narrowed her eyes.
.You expect me to believe that?"
He took a step forward.
Several knights flinched.
You may believe whatever helps you sleep, Captain…" he said, letting the title linger on his tongue. But if I had done this, there would be no village left to investigate."
Katherine hated that part of her recognized the confidence in his voice
It didn't sound like a lie.
One of the younger knights suddenly shouted and lunged forward.
Die, vampire!"
Everything happened at once.
The knight's sword swung toward the stranger's neck.
The stranger moved. Not fast,Impossible,One moment he stood ten feet away. The next, he was directly in front of the knight.
His hand closed around the blade barehanded.
Steel snapped like glass.
The knight froze in horror.
The stranger's crimson eyes darkened.
"I dislike being interrupted."
He shoved the knight backward with one hand.
The armored soldier flew across the street and crashed through a wooden cart.
Silence
Every knight stared in disbelief.
Katherine's heartbeat quickened. Not from fear,From realization. No human could do that.
The stranger looked back at her.
You're wondering if the stories are true."
Katherine lifted her chin.
I'm wondering how to kill you."
For the first time, genuine amusement appeared in his eyes.
There it is," he murmured. The courage everyone else is missing."
A low growl echoed from the forest.
Katherine spun toward the trees.
The stranger's expression changed instantly.
The amusement vanished.
Now he looked… alert.
Get behind me," he said.
Katherine almost laughed.
I'd rather die."
The growl came again, louder this time.
Something massive moved between the trees.
Branches snapped.
The horses panicked violently.
Then it emerged.
The creature stood nearly eight feet tall, its body twisted between wolf and man. Black fur covered its skin, and its claws were stained with fresh blood.
Its eyes glowed the same crimson as the moon.
Several knights screamed.
"What in the gods' names is that?"
The stranger's voice turned cold.
A Bloodborn. And now you understand why this village died."
The creature roared and charged.
Katherine met it head-on.
She dodged the first swipe, rolled beneath the second, and slashed her silver blade across its arm.
The creature howled
The stranger's eyes widened slightly.
Silver
Katherine drove her sword forward again, but the Bloodborn caught the blade between its claws.
Its jaws snapped inches from her face
The stench of blood hit her like a wall.
Then the creature suddenly jerked backward.
The stranger stood behind it, one hand wrapped around its throat.
His crimson eyes blazed.
You dare hunt in my kingdom?"
With a single motion, he twisted.
A sickening crack echoed through the village.
The creature's neck snapped.
It collapsed at his feet.
Silence returned.
Katherine stared at him.
He had killed the monster effortlessly.
Rain dripped from his dark coat as he looked down at the corpse with disgust.
Pathetic."
Katherine lowered her sword slightly.
You knew what it was."
He met her gaze again.
Because I created them."
Every knight froze.
Rowan swore under his breath.
Katherine's eyes hardened.
Then those deaths are still your responsibility."
For the first time, something dangerous flickered across his face.
Careful, Captain."
Katherine stepped closer instead.
No."You don't get to arrive after five hundred years, kill a monster, and expect everyone to forget the bodies in the street."If you made these creatures, then tell me why they're attacking human villages."
The rain intensified.
The stranger studied her for several long seconds.
What is your name?
Katherine Ashford."
Katherine Ashford," he repeated softly, as if testing the sound. You ask questions that could get you killed."
And you avoid answering them.
A slow smile appeared on his lips.
Good.I was beginning to think this kingdom had run out of interesting people.
Katherine's patience snapped.
She lunged
Her silver sword flashed toward his throat.
This time, he didn't stop the blade with his hand.
He simply moved.
One graceful step.
Her sword cut through empty air.Suddenly he was behind her.
His voice brushed against her ear like velvet.
Too slow."
Katherine spun and attacked again.
Three strikes.
Five
Seven
He avoided every one of them with infuriating ease.
Not mocking her.
Studying her
Finally he caught her wrist.
The moment his skin touched hers, a strange jolt ran through Katherine's body.
Heat
Power
Something ancient
His crimson eyes widened for the briefest instant.
As if he had felt it too.
