Boredom
( This will only be a short story)
This takes back so many memories—when I did something stupid that turned out to be one of my favorite chapters of my life, because this is the story of my unexpected love story.
Back then, I was just studying and doing my homework stuff. I was so bored and unmotivated.
I muttered to myself, staring at my notes.
So I came up with a plan—I messaged all of my friends.
But one by one… seen. No reply.

“Busy na naman kayo sa mga jowa niyo.”
Unlike me—sleep, study, school, repeat. That’s all I do.
After a few minutes of waiting, I checked my phone again.
Nothing.
So I went back to my homework, still unmotivated. Pero after a few minutes, I grabbed my phone again.
Still nothing.
That’s when I took matters into my own hands.

“Ako na lang gagawa ng way.”
I opened Facebook and started scrolling.
Random people. Random posts.
Until—
I stopped.
There he was.
Calix.
Yva
“Hindi ko naman siya kilala…”
I whispered. Without even thinking twice, I clicked Add Friend.
I said, putting my phone down.
Yva
“Hindi naman siguro niya ia-accept.”
I went back to studying, but my mind kept wandering. After what felt like forever, my phone suddenly buzzed. I quickly grabbed it.

“Ano ‘to… totoo ba ‘to?”
Yva
“Inaccept niya talaga?”
Without wasting a second, I messaged him.
Then I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Little did I know… he would reply the next day.
Excited
I had just gotten out of school when my phone buzzed again.
I checked it.
Yva
“Hi! Sorry, random add 😭”
He replied after a few minutes.
Calix
“It’s okay. Medyo nagulat lang ako.”
Yva
“Hindi ko rin alam bakit kita in-add 😭”
He sent a laughing emoji.
And just like that… the conversation started.
Days passed, and we kept talking.
Calix
“Anong ginagawa mo?”
Yva
“Wala… bored na naman 😭 ikaw?”
Calix
“Thinking about you.”
But somehow… it didn’t feel like a joke. We started video calling.
I asked, adjusting my camera.
Calix
“Ikaw ba, kita mo ako?”
I leaned closer to the screen.
He laughed. And that medyo turned into hours.
Yva
“Wait, anong oras na?”
I asked. Checking the clock hangging on my wall

“Grabe, ang haba na ng call natin.”
Calix
“I like talking to you.”
My heart skipped. After days of calls, we got curious.
Calix
“Paano kung magkita tayo?”
Calix
“Yeah. Pareho naman tayong nasa Manila.”
I hesitated.
Then smiled.
The day came. I was late.
Yva
“Sorry, on the way na!”
Calix
“No rush. I'm waiting patiently”
As I walked closer to the meeting place, I saw him. From a distance pa lang...
He was tall.
Handsome.
Mestizo.
I walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder.
He turned around.
And for a moment—
I forgot how to breathe.
I said, avoiding his eyes.
We talked.
And talked.
And talked.

“Ang dami nating napag-uusapan,”
Calix
“Parang kulang pa yung oras.”
Yva
“Text mo ako pag nakauwi ka, ha?”
When I got home, he called.
Days turned into a routine.
Yva
“Nasa labas na, ikaw?”
Meet-ups after class. Video calls at night.
Yva
“Goodnight… don’t hang up yet.”
We were just friends. Or at least… that’s what we told ourselves.
Calix
“I need to tell you something,”
Calix
“I want to court you.”
Yva
“panimdigan mo yan sinasabi mo ah"
Years passed.
He kept his promise.
He waited.
And then— On his birthday, I handed him a gift.
Inside was a simple note.
He looked at me, eyes widening.
And now— We’re still here.
Still together.
Still going strong.
Who would’ve thought?
A random add.
A boring day.
Would lead me here.
To him.
My first.
My last.
The one I want to grow old with… for the rest of my life.
