The only light in the room was from the moonlight, cutting a thin line across the wall. Silver and cold. It fell right on the peeling paint and stopped at her feet.

Yashi sat on the corner of the room, hugging her knees.

The rest of the room was dark. No electricity in the room. Just her, the moon, and the quiet.

Her dupatta was wrapped around her tightly and covered herself,like it could block out the whole world.

A cockroach scurried across the floor, and she didn't even flinch.She is not scared of them anymore.

Her eyes were red, puffy, and dry. No tears are left to sheds. She was done crying.

She pulled her dupatta tightly and whispered into dark.

The moonlight didn’t answer. It just kept cutting that thin, sharp line across the wall... ...and across her.

Then, slowly ... she lied on the cold floor .

No mattress, no chadar.Just the cement under her back.

It was cold. It bit through her kurta. But she didn’t move. It felt honest. Like the floor wasn’t pretending everything was okay.

She stared up at the ceiling.

Pulled her dupatta over her chest like a blanket and closed her eyes.

The moonlight fell across her face in that one thin line. Outside, the wind. Inside, silence.
