Don't Talk to Him, Wife!

Possessive on Sky

The cabin of the Boeing was bathed in the soft, ambient glow of the mood lighting.

Maya, the social butterfly, had immediately struck up a conversation with the man sitting next to her—a charismatic, well-dressed traveler who seemed just as eager to fill the silence of the flight.

Maya laughed, a bright, melodic sound that carried easily across the cabin. "I know, right? I told Aiden we absolutely needed a balcony overlooking the water. If I don't wake up to the sound of waves, is it even a vacation?"

The stranger smiled, leaning in slightly, his tone engaging. "You’ve got the right idea. By the way, I'm Ryan. There’s a specific spot in the Maldives where the floor is glass—you can see the reef while you sip your morning coffee. You should look into it."

Maya's eyes lit up. "You can call me Maya. and that sounds incredible! Tell me everything."

Behind them, the air felt significantly colder.

Aiden sat perfectly still, his eyes fixed on a business report on his tablet, though he hadn't turned the page in twenty minutes. His jaw was set, a hard, sharp line beneath his neatly trimmed beard.

He wasn't a man of many words—usually, he wasn't a man of any words—but his silence was a heavy, suffocating weight.

He didn't care for the chatter of strangers. He didn't care for the way the man kept angling his body toward Maya, or the way Maya was leaning in, completely captivated, as if she hadn't spent the last three years solely captivated by him.

Aiden closed his tablet with a snap that sounded far too loud in the quiet cabin. He didn't look at his phone; he didn't look at his book. He simply stared at the back of Maya's head, his dark eyes narrowing slightly.

He was perfectly content being a ghost to the rest of the world, a man who spoke only to his wife. But when the world started trying to talk to his wife? That was a line. And as he watched the stranger lean in even closer to hear Maya's next story, Aiden felt the familiar, dangerous coil of possessiveness tighten in his chest.

The vacation was supposed to be theirs. Just them. And he was already starting to regret letting her book the row with the extra legroom.

"So, what do you do for fun when you aren't chasing sunsets?" Ryan asked, his tone smooth, bordering on flirtatious. He held Maya's gaze with an ease that suggested he was entirely unfazed by the boundaries of strangers.

Maya grinned, waving a hand dismissively. "Oh, I’m an adventurer. Aiden, my husband—he’s the quiet type. He likes to observe, I like to experience." She glanced back toward the row behind her, her smile softening, but she didn't see Aiden. She only saw the reflection of the cabin lights on the window.

The cold stare

Ryan didn't look back. He didn't have to. He had felt the intense, icy prickle of a stare on the back of his neck the moment he sat down.

Slowly, Ryan turned his head. His eyes locked onto Aiden's.

Aiden was staring with a cold, predatory intensity that would have made most men shift uncomfortably or look away. It was a silent warning—a territorial claim.

But Ryan didn't blink. Instead, a slow, mocking smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. He held Aiden's glare for a beat longer than was polite, his gaze dropping to Maya and then flicking back to Aiden with a look of cool, calculated defiance.

Challenge accepted.

Ryan turned back to Maya, his posture shifting to subtly block Aiden's line of sight. "You know," Ryan said, his voice dropping an octave, loud enough to be heard clearly by the man behind them, "a woman like you deserves someone who can actually keep up with that energy. Not someone who just watches from the sidelines."

Maya chuckled, oblivious to the simmering tension. "Oh, you don't know Aiden. When he decides to step up, he doesn't just keep up—he takes over."

Aiden's hand tightened around the armrest, his knuckles turning white. His breathing remained shallow and controlled, but his silence was no longer passive.

It was the silence of a predator waiting for the right moment to strike. He didn't like Ryan. He didn't like the way Ryan touched the armrest near Maya's elbow, and he certainly didn't like the way Ryan looked at her as if she were a prize to be won.

The plane began its descent, the cabin lights dimming further. As the seatbelt sign chimed, Aiden stood up, his tall frame looming over the row.

He didn't look at Ryan. He reached down, his large hand resting firmly on the back of Maya's head, his fingers grazing her neck in a possessive, grounding motion.

"Maya," Aiden said, his voice a low, gravelly vibration that cut through the cabin chatter. "Sit straight. We're landing."

Maya blinked, surprised by the sudden intensity in his tone. Ryan, however, looked up at Aiden with that same mocking glint in his eyes, leaning back just enough to ensure his shoulder brushed against Maya's seat.

The vacation had barely begun, and the air was already thick with the scent of a coming storm.

The flight had barely taxied to the gate before the tension in the cabin seemed to dissipate into the humid air of the arrival lounge.

Maya, ever the energetic one, was already unbuckling her seatbelt, reaching for her carry-on with a vibrant hum of excitement.

Ryan lingered, gathering his things with deliberate slowness, casting a final, lingering look toward Maya before he was swallowed by the crowd of exiting passengers.

Maya turned to grab her small tote from the overhead bin, but she didn't get the chance.

A large, shadow-casting frame stepped into her personal space. Maya stood behind her, his movements fluid and purposeful.

He reached past her, his arm encircling her waist to steady her as she pivoted, his hand coming to rest firmly against her lower back.

Change in air

The contact was electric. Maya looked up, finding Aiden's dark eyes fixed on her. The cold, dangerous edge he’d directed at Ryan had vanished, replaced by an intense, molten focus that was reserved solely for her.

"Aiden?" she breathed, her voice softening as she felt the familiar pull of his gravity.

He didn't speak. He rarely needed to. Instead, he tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, his thumb lingering against the shell of her ear and the line of her jaw.

His touch was possessive, almost desperate, a silent declaration that despite the chatter and the crowds, she belonged only to him.

He pulled her slightly closer, his chest pressing against her shoulder, effectively shielding her from the rest of the world.

He leaned down, his lips brushing against her temple. It was a brief, intimate movement, but it carried the weight of everything he couldn't bring himself to say to the strangers around them.

"You're mine," he murmured against her skin—a low, barely audible rasp that made a shiver run down her spine. "Stay close."

Maya smiled, her heart fluttering. She didn't mind his moods; she loved the way he acted as her anchor in the middle of a chaotic world.

She leaned into his touch, resting her head against his shoulder for a brief moment as the rest of the passengers jostled past them.

"I'm not going anywhere," she whispered back, reaching up to thread her fingers through the collar of his shirt.

Aiden pulled back, his eyes scanning the terminal one last time—his gaze lingering on the exit where Ryan had disappeared—before he took her hand in his.

His grip was iron-tight, guiding her through the airport with an air of absolute authority. The tropical breeze was waiting for them outside, but for now, the only heat Maya felt was the radiating intensity of her husband.

The drive from the airport to the private jetty was a blur of emerald palm trees and vibrant, sun-drenched coastal roads.

Aiden insisted on a private car, his silence shielding them from the outside world. He kept his hand firmly over hers for the entire duration of the ride, his thumb tracing rhythmic, possessive patterns over her knuckles, as if marking her as his territory.

Whenever the driver glanced at them through the rearview mirror, his gaze would sharpen, a silent command for the man to keep his eyes on the road.

Maya, oblivious to the subtle displays of territoriality, spent the time pointing out the changing colors of the ocean, her head resting against Aiden's shoulder. He barely looked at the scenery; his attention was entirely consumed by the way her hair caught the sunlight and the soft rhythm of her breathing.

When they finally arrived at the resort—a sprawling, secluded sanctuary surrounded by the deep, crystalline expanse of the sea—the air felt heavy with the scent of salt and blooming nature.
