Our Mate Is Human

Taehyung stood in front of the large gates of Hybe College and stared at the campus that stretched far beyond them
As soon as he stepped through the gates, he noticed the stares.
Some students glanced at him only for a second before looking away, while others openly whispered to their friends. Their eyes followed him as he walked down the main pathway toward the administration building.
Taehyung clenched his fists tightly before slipping them into the pockets of his oversized hoodie.
His fingers immediately moved toward the top of his head, carefully checking beneath the hood.
Relief washed over him when he felt nothing unusual. His ears were hidden properly.
Taehyung was an omega werewolf.
In a world where humans lived alongside hybrid creatures, being different was no longer shocking.
Centuries ago, wars and discrimination had divided the two societies, but those days had long passed. The government had established strict laws to protect hybrids and guarantee their freedom. They could live however they wanted without interference from humans. Entire cities and communities had been built specifically for them, allowing hybrids to embrace their traditions, cultures, and natural instincts without judgment
Hybe College was one of the most prestigious schools in the country. The children of politicians, business owners, celebrities, and powerful families studied within its walls. Admission was incredibly difficult, and thousands of students competed for a limited number of seats every year.
<p>Taehyung stood quietly outside the classroom door, his heart beating so fast that he could hear it in his ears
His fingers curled into fists at his sides
Maybe he should not go in
Maybe he could come back tomorrow morning instead, when classes had not started yet. It would be less embarrassing. Nobody would have to stop and stare at him.
Before he could decide whether to leave or stay, the classroom door suddenly opened.
Taehyung jumped in surprise.
Standing in the doorway was a middle-aged professor with glasses balanced on the bridge of his nose.
Madhav
Why are you standing outside?"
Taehyung
Taehyung immediately straightened his posture.<br />
"N-New student," he stuttered nervously.<br /
Taehyung swallowed hard.<br />
The moment he entered the room, every conversation stopped.<br />
Dozens of students turned their heads toward him. Some looked curious.
Madhav
Class," the professor said, setting his notes on the desk. "This is Kim Taehyung. He will be joining us from today onward
Madhav
Mr. Kim, introduce yourself."
Taehyung slowly lifted his head. Looking at so many unfamiliar faces at once made his stomach twist with anxiety. He could feel their eyes examining every detail about him. Taking a deep breath, he gathered what little courage he had left.
Taehyung
"My name is Kim Taehyung," he said softly. "I'm twenty years old. I hope we can get along."<br />
Madhav
Good," the professor said. "Now find an empty seat."<br />
Taehyung looked around the classroom.<br />
Almost every desk was occupied.<br />
For a brief moment, panic returned.<br />
Then, from near the window, a cheerful voice suddenly called out
When Taehyung told his twin brother about it during one of their nightly calls, a long sigh immediately came from the other side of the phone.
The sound made Taehyung laugh.
Taehyung
Why are you sighing?"
V
"I'm relieved," V replied honestly. "You have no idea how worried I was."
Taehyung smiled softly and leaned back against the headboard of his dorm bed. Outside his window, the city lights sparkled against the dark evening sky.
Taehyung
You worry too much."
Taehyung and V were twins, but their lives had changed forever when they were still children. Their parents had died during a rogue attack that devastated their pack.
Losing their parents had forced both brothers to grow up much faster than they should have.
After the destruction of their old pack, the government stepped in and provided land for the survivors to rebuild their lives
Eventually, the remaining members chose an island far from crowded cities.
Even though he was the same age as Taehyung, V carried responsibilities that would overwhelm most adults. As a true-blood alpha, one of the rarest bloodlines among werewolves, leadership had naturally fallen to him. From the moment he was old enough to understand what it meant, he had devoted himself to protecting their people and rebuilding what had been lost.
Taehyung
How is everyone?" Taehyung asked softly
1st meet
Bourne
"Hey, Tae, can you help me with this? Our class monitor is collecting the assignments. I only have one question left."
Taehyung looked up from his notebook and saw one of his classmates standing beside his desk with a worried expression. The boy held out his assignment sheet, clearly panicking about the unfinished question.
Without hesitation, Taehyung nodded.
The boy immediately pulled a chair closer and sat beside him. Taehyung shifted slightly to make space before looking at the question. It was not particularly difficult. Within seconds, he began explaining the formula and showing the steps needed to solve it.
Just as Taehyung was about to continue, a hand suddenly reached down and snatched the notebook from the desk.
Both boys looked up.
Time's over. The teacher is here."
The voice was calm and firm.
Taehyung's eyes landed on the person holding the notebook.
Jeon Jungkook.
For a moment, Taehyung simply stared.
Jungkook had messy black hair that always seemed effortlessly perfect. His sharp features gave him a cold appearance, while his large dark eyes made it impossible to ignore him. There was something about him that naturally drew attention wherever he went. Even when he sat quietly in the corner of the classroom, people noticed him.
And for some reason, every time Taehyung looked at him, his heart started beating strangely.
Bourne
Hey, Jungkook, give me a little more time," the student complained.
Jungkook didn't even look at him.
He simply gathered the remaining notebooks and carried them toward the teacher's desk.
Bourne
The student groaned
"What a tyrant."
Taehyung couldn't help smiling a little.
Jungkook placed the assignments neatly on the desk before returning to his seat at the back of the classroom. As usual, he sat beside his girlfriend, Minjee. The girl immediately leaned closer to him and started talking while Jungkook listened with a relaxed expression.
Taehyung lowered his eyes.
There were only a handful of students in the class who never really spoke to him despite everyone else's friendliness.
Jungkook was one of them.
In fact, Jungkook had never willingly started a conversation with him.
Not once.
Sometimes Taehyung wondered if he had accidentally offended him somehow.
Bourne
Don't worry about him," the student beside him suddenly said.
Bourne
The boy leaned closer and lowered his voice.
"He's just jealous because everyone keeps talking to you."
Bourne
"You seriously don't know?"
Bourne
Jungkook has been the top student in our class for years. Every year he's at the top of the rankings. Teachers praise him, students admire him, and honestly, most people expected him to stay number one forever."
Bourne
Then you showed up."
The boy pointed directly at him.
"Now every teacher keeps praising you. You're getting perfect scores, answering difficult questions, and making the professors happy. Obviously he's annoyed."
Taehyung
Taehyung frowned.
"I don't think that's true."
Taehyung wasn't convinced.
Jungkook didn't seem like the type of person who would care about something so childish.
Still...
His eyes drifted toward the back of the classroom.
And froze.
Jungkook was already looking at him.
Then Jungkook suddenly broke eye contact.
As if nothing had happened, he turned toward Minjee and whispered something in her ear.
Minjee immediately glanced in Taehyung's direction.
The smile on her face disappeared.
A second later, she rolled her eyes and looked away.
Taehyung felt his stomach tighten.
He quickly lowered his gaze to his notebook, pretending not to notice.
Bourne
Minjee."
"She's even worse."
The student leaned back in his chair.
"Honestly, nobody knows why she dislikes you so much."
project
After collecting all the assignments, the professor placed the stack of notebooks on his desk and looked around the classroom
Madhav
"I have a new assignment for all of you," he announced.
Madhav
This project will be completed in groups. There will be four teams, and the members have already been decided according to your roll numbers."
That immediately gained everyone's interest.
Students sat up straighter in their seats and stopped complaining. Finding out who would be in their group was far more important than the actual assignment.
The professor picked up a sheet of paper and slowly began reading names.
Taehyung listened quietly while absentmindedly twirling his pen between his fingers. He did not particularly care who ended up in his group as long as everyone cooperated.
Madhav
Eventually the professor reached the final team.
"The last group will include..." he began, reading several names.
Taehyung paid little attention until he suddenly heard his own name. His head lifted slightly.
Madhav
Kim Taehyung."
A few students immediately turned toward him.
The professor continued reading.
"Minjee... and Jeon Jungkook."
The moment Jungkook's name was announced alongside Taehyung's, the entire class erupted into surprised murmurs. Some students openly protested while others laughed in disbelief.
That's not fair!"
"You put both geniuses in the same group."
"Professor, you basically handed them first place already."
More students joined the complaints, causing the professor to sigh.
Once the classroom finally settled down, the professor reached beneath his desk and pulled out a large glass bowl filled with folded pieces of paper.
Madhav
Each group will receive a different topic," the professor explained. "One representative from each team will come forward and choose a paper. Whatever topic is written on the paper will become your assignment."
One by one, representatives from each group approached the desk and selected their papers.
The first team received a topic about ancient civilizations.
The second received environmental studies.
The third got technological innovation.
Finally, it was time for Taehyung's group.
Since Jungkook was the class monitor and naturally took charge of most class activities, everyone expected him to choose the paper.
Without saying a word, Jungkook stood from his seat and walked toward the professor's desk. For reasons Taehyung did not fully understand, his eyes automatically followed him.
Jungkook reached into the bowl, mixed the remaining papers briefly, and selected one before returning to his seat.
The entire group immediately leaned closer.
"Open it."
"Come on."
"What did we get?"
Jungkook
Creatures and Myths."
We got lucky!"
"This is probably the easiest topic out of all of them."
Another student instantly turned toward Taehyung with an excited grin.
"And we have Taehyung."
Several heads nodded in agreement.
"Exactly. He grew up around hybrid communities. He'll know everything about this."
We're definitely getting the highest grade."
Taehyung felt every eye in the group land on him.
His stomach immediately tightened.
While the others saw the assignment as an easy opportunity, all he could think about were the problems it could create
Humans often treated hybrid history as something mysterious, almost mythical. Many still believed countless stories were simply legends passed down through generations.
The reality was far more complicated.
Hybrids existed, but much of their culture, traditions, and history were protected under government laws. There were many things outsiders were not allowed to know.
Taehyung slowly released a long breath and leaned back in his chair.
One student laughed and patted his shoulder.
"See? Even Taehyung knows we're going to ace this project."
The cafeteria was noisier than usual that afternoon.
Taehyung sat with several members of his project group, quietly eating while listening to them throw around ideas for their "Creatures and Myths" presentation.
So far most of the suggestions had been ordinary things they could easily find online or in books, which secretly relieved him. The less attention placed on real hybrid communities, the better.
Unfortunately, that peace did not last long.
Maddy
Tae, since we got this assignment, I have an idea."
Maddy
Why don't we go to your hometown and study everything practically?"
His hometown?
His pack?
The place where hundreds of hybrids lived?
His stomach immediately dropped.
No.
Absolutely not.
The students sitting around the table, however, looked increasingly excited the more they thought about it.
"That's actually genius."
"Right?"
"We could learn so much more than what books teach."
Another student nodded enthusiastically.
"Exactly. We can interview people and see how hybrids actually live."
Taehyung's mind was already racing ahead.
There was no way his brother would agree.
No matter how friendly these students were, they were still outsiders. The island was not a tourist attraction. It was home. It was a place where hybrids could live safely without worrying about curious humans poking into their private lives.
And if there was one person who took that responsibility seriously, it was V.
As pack alpha, his brother spent every day protecting their people.
Taehyung already knew the answer before even asking.
No.
A very big no.
June
Yes, Tae," another student said excitedly. "I want to see your hometown."
"I've only seen hybrid communities in movies."
June
I've always wondered what they're actually like."
Ella
"It's literally one of my dreams."
The others immediately agreed.
June
Can we, Tae?"
"Please
Ella
Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee."
"Just ask."
"We'll be respectful."
"We promise."
Taehyung stared at them helplessly.
He didn't know whether to laugh or panic.
Slowly, he turned his head away from the group as if considering the idea. In reality, he was trying to think of a way to reject them without disappointing everyone.
His eyes accidentally landed on another table across the cafeteria.
Minjee and Jungkook were sitting together.
Unlike the rest of the group, they had chosen a table farther away and seemed completely uninterested in the discussion. Minjee was scrolling through her phone while Jungkook lazily stirred his drink.
As if sensing his gaze, Jungkook looked up.
For a brief moment, their eyes met.
Taehyung quickly looked away.
One of his friends followed his line of sight.
Maddy
"What about those two?"
June
They already said they'll go along with whatever we decide."
seojun
They don't seem to care."
they say but didnt know someone was listening to them really closely
seojun
"So?" one of the students asked eagerly.
"Tae?"
"Can we?"
Taehyung
Every pair of eyes returned to him.
Taehyung sighed.
"I have to ask my brother's permission first."
Ella
You have a brother?"
"What?"
"Wait, you've never mentioned that."
Taehyung blinked.
Had he really never talked about V
Taehyung
"I have a twin brother."
seojun
"A TWIN?!"
"No way."
"You're joking."
"How have you never told us this?"
Maddy
Do you look alike?"
"Who's older?"
"Is he also a werewolf?"
June
What's his name?"
"Is he single?"
