The Cursed Moonlit Pact

THE SUMMONING

Hi everyone😌👋

This is a romance fantasy…

Specifically made for a competition🤭

So let’s start❤️

————————————————————

The kingdom of Elaris had not witnessed a natural moon in one hundred years. The sky remained permanently bruised, a perpetual expanse of dried blood known as the Blood Veil. To the farmers, it was a harbinger of famine; to the priesthood, a divine judgment; to the children, merely a grim curiosity.

For Eleanor Whitaker, the Royal Archivist, the sky was a professional frustration. At twenty-three, Eleanor’s life was defined by ink-stained fingers and a mind that favored empirical evidence over superstition. While the court panicked, Eleanor recorded data: crop yields, mortality rates, and the frequency of the King’s sighs during council meetings. Lately, her entries were repetitive: “Still no moon. Still no answers.”

Seeking evidence that the court historians had missed, Eleanor found herself in the castle’s Restricted Section at midnight. The heavy oak door, sealed for half a century, yielded to a key she had scavenged from a drawer marked: “Do Not Use Unless The World Is Ending.” The Blood Veil, she reasoned, qualified.

Dust motes danced in the pale, crimson light filtering through the high windows. The shelves groaned under the weight of grimoires bound in leather, cloth, and substances she dared not contemplate. In the darkest corner, behind a loose stone, she discovered it: a volume bound in obsidian, lacking a title, its spine crawling with silver runes that seemed to shift like agitated insects.

The air around the book was unnaturally frigid. As her fingers brushed the cover, the temperature in the room plummeted, turning her breath into a frantic mist. The first page bore an inscription: Pacts of the Fae. For Use in Times of Desperation Only.

Rationality urged her to replace it. Desperation, however, pushed her forward. She read the binding incantation aloud. The candles extinguished in unison.

A shadow detached itself from the gloom a figure six feet tall, draped in armor forged from night and starlight. His features were sharp, his hair the color of midnight, and his storm-gray eyes possessed the weight of centuries. He looked upon Eleanor not as a person, but as a minor inconvenience.

"You called," he stated, his voice a low vibration that resonated in her chest.

"W-who are you? And what are you doing here? ," Eleanor stammered, scrambling backward.

"You spoke the binding words," he countered, stepping over the fallen book. "That constitutes a contract."

"I ask, who are you?"

"King Alaric Thorn, of the Fae Court of Night," he replied. "And you, human, have just agreed to shatter a century-old curse."

"I did no such thing!"

Alaric retrieved the volume, flipping through the pages with impatient grace. "The Blood Veil was woven by the Winter Witch one hundred years ago. It will not dissipate until two souls one human, one fae fall in love freely and completely before the next full moon. That moon rises in thirty days."

"That is impossible," Eleanor insisted. "I don’t love you. I barely know you."

"Sentiment is irrelevant," Alaric said, gesturing toward the blood-stained window. "The kingdom is dying. If we fail, Elaris will become a tomb of ice."

"Why me?" she whispered, her skepticism fraying.

"Because you possess hope," Alaric replied, his gaze momentarily softening. "And hope is the one thing the Winter Witch could never extinguish."

With that, he dissolved into a swirl of shadow, leaving Eleanor alone with a cursed book and the crushing weight of a kingdom's future.

THIRTY NIGHTS TO FALL

Welcome back\~😌

————————————————————

The library became a liminal space a sanctuary suspended between the dying world outside and an uncertain future within. The initial formality between a human archivist and a Fae King slowly eroded, replaced by the friction of two souls forced into intimacy.

On the eighth night, the air in the archives was stagnant, heavy with the scent of decaying parchment. Alaric arrived disheveled, his armor etched with fresh, jagged gashes from border skirmishes with the Dawn Court. Eleanor, abandoning her professional detachment, reached out to inspect a deep laceration on his forearm. As her fingers grazed the cold metal of his spaulders, she felt him flinch not from pain, but from the unexpected warmth of her human touch. He was a creature of ice and shadows, unaccustomed to such genuine, unguarded concern.

"I am tired of war, Eleanor," he admitted, his voice stripping away the arrogant veneer of the Fae King. "I am tired of watching my people fade into the red mist of this Veil."

"It will end," she promised, her voice firm, anchoring him. In that moment, the pact ceased to be a cold transaction regarding the sky; it became a bridge between a man haunted by his past and a woman determined to see the stars.

By the eighteenth night, the tension reached a volatile breaking point. Eleanor stumbled upon hidden reports in the Restricted Section casualty lists that detailed the heavy toll the war had taken on Alaric's inner circle. Confronted, Alaric slammed his hand against the mahogany table, the wood groaning under his strength. "I was protecting you from the reality of it!"

"I am the Royal Archivist, Alaric! I do not hide from reality; I record it!" Eleanor stepped into his space, her eyes blazing. "The truth is I’m terrified! Scared of failing this kingdom, scared of becoming like my sister, Lyra."

The name hung in the air, cold and sharp. "The Winter Witch?" Eleanor whispered.

"She was Fae once, before a human shattered her heart and her soul," Alaric confessed, his gaze turning inward. "She was proud, beautiful, and loved without restraint. When she was betrayed, her grief froze the world. I am terrified that if we fail or if this pact is merely a farce that I will succumb to that same frozen void."

Eleanor crossed the room, placing a steadying hand over his heart. "You aren't her, Alaric. You have the courage to ask for help. That is your salvation."

Their progress did not go unnoticed. On the twenty-fifth night, Lyra appeared in the gardens. She was no longer a shadow, but a woman bathed in the haunting glow of the Blood Veil, her eyes glistening with ancient tears. "I didn't want the world to freeze," she confessed, her voice like the cracking of glacial ice. "I only wanted to be chosen. I wanted to be more than a footnote in someone else's story."

"Why didn't he choose you?" Eleanor asked softly, stepping toward the entity that had held their world hostage for a century.

"Because he was a coward, and I was too proud to bridge the gap," Lyra replied, looking at Alaric with tragic fondness. "Don't be like me. Love him anyway, even if the world tries to break you for it."

She vanished into mist, leaving them with three nights remaining. The ice in the gardens began to groan, cracks webbing across the surface as green, stubborn shoots of life pierced the frozen ground. The curse was dying, not because of magic, but because the foundation of the pact was shifting into something far more human: vulnerability.

The Full Moon(End)

Welcome back😚❤️

————————————————————

On the twenty-ninth night, the sky bled a paler, more fragile shade of rose. The Blood Veil was tearing, the fabric of the atmosphere sighing as it prepared to surrender.

In the library, the pretense of distance had vanished entirely. Alaric stood before Eleanor, stripped of his crown and his heavy battle armor. He wore a simple black shirt, the fabric dark against his pale skin, looking less like a king and more like a man stripped bare by his own yearning. When he reached for her, his movements were hesitant, as if he were still learning the rhythm of her heart.

"Eleanor," he breathed, his thumbs tracing the line of her jaw. "I need you to know—"

"Show me," she whispered, the words a surrender of everything she had held back.

The kiss that followed was a revelation. It was the sound of a century of isolation breaking soft, deliberate, and devastatingly real. It was not the desperate spark of a pact; it was the quiet, profound recognition of two people finding home in the middle of a war. When they pulled away, both were breathless, the air between them charged with a static that felt like the return of the elements.

"I love you," Alaric murmured against her skin, his voice thick with unvoiced years of loneliness. "Not because the Fae book demanded it, but because you are the only thing in this kingdom that feels real."

"I love you too," Eleanor replied, a single tear tracing a path through the dust on her cheek. "You arrogant, annoying, wonderful Fae King."

The kingdom shuddered. The ground groaned as if waking from a long, subterranean slumber. They ran to the Frozen Garden, where the single red rose pulsed with a blinding, rhythmic intensity. The ice surrounding the fountain had turned into liquid, the garden exhaling the scent of damp earth and coming spring.

"Now," Alaric said, taking her hand.

"Together," Eleanor echoed.

They placed their hands on the rose, and the world held its breath. The bloom exploded not into flame, but into a thousand fragments of iridescent light. The Blood Veil ripped asunder, revealing the silver, indifferent beauty of a full moon.

Snow fell, but it held the warmth of a summer rain. The ice vanished. Lyra appeared one final time, her form shedding the pallor of the grave, appearing instead as a woman at peace. "You chose each other," she whispered, a ghost of a smile touching her lips. "You did what I could not."

"Will you be okay?" Eleanor asked, stepping forward, her heart aching for the woman who had lost everything.

Lyra smiled, a radiant, sad expression. "I think so. I am finally free."

She touched Eleanor’s cheek, her hand feeling like a gentle summer breeze, before she dissolved into a flurry of white petals that danced toward the moon.

Three months later, the kingdom of Elaris basked in the warmth of a true, sustained spring. Eleanor remained the Royal Archivist, but she now carried the heavy, beautiful weight of the title of Queen of the Night Court.

One evening, as the moonlight bathed her desk, Alaric sat beside her, watching her work with an expression of quiet adoration.

"Do you ever regret the pact?" she asked, putting down her quill.

Alaric pulled her into his lap, his arms a familiar, grounding presence. "The only regret I harbor is that it took me twenty-nine nights to admit I would have chosen you regardless of the curse. I spent a century waiting for the sky to clear, only to realize I was waiting for you."

Eleanor leaned her head on his shoulder, watching the silver glow of the moon their moon cast long shadows across the floor. "Better late than never."

"To the moon and back, Eleanor," he whispered.

"To the moon and back," she replied.

The curse was a memory; their story was only just beginning.
