Sometimes We Do Want to.......In Search of Myself

Episode 1-The First Hope

The morning sun gently filtered through the classroom windows as a little girl stood quietly outside the door. Her tiny hands clutched the straps of her new backpack, and her heart beat with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Today was her first day at school.

She took a deep breath before stepping inside.

The classroom buzzed with cheerful voices. Children laughed, introduced themselves, and excitedly showed each other their colourful pencil boxes and notebooks. Parents smiled from the doorway before leaving their children in the care of the teacher.

She stood silently near the entrance, looking around with curious eyes.

"This is where my story begins," she thought.

Like every little girl, she believed school was a magical place. She had watched cartoons where children became best friends on the very first day. She had heard stories from older cousins about unforgettable classmates and fun adventures.

She wanted that too.

She imagined someone walking over with a warm smile.

"Hi! What's your name? Let's be friends."

The thought alone made her smile.

The teacher welcomed everyone and asked the students to introduce themselves. One by one, children confidently stood up, saying their names while the class applauded.

When it was her turn, she slowly stood.

"My... my name is Aisha," she said softly, barely louder than a whisper.

The teacher smiled kindly.

"Welcome, Aisha."

A few students looked at her for a second before turning back to their conversations.

She quietly sat down again.

As the day went on, groups began forming naturally. Some children found classmates who shared the same hobbies. Others laughed over silly jokes as though they had known each other forever.

Aisha watched them from her seat.

She wasn't jealous.

She simply wondered...

"When will my turn come?"

During lunch break, she carefully opened the lunchbox her mother had packed that morning. She looked around, hoping someone would ask to sit with her.

No one did.

She ate quietly, listening to the happy chatter surrounding her.

Still, she refused to feel sad.

"Maybe everyone is just shy today," she told herself.

"Tomorrow will be different."

After school, her mother met her at the gate with a bright smile.

"How was your first day?"

Aisha smiled back.

"It was nice."

"Did you make any friends?"

For a moment, she hesitated.

Then she shook her head gently.

"Not yet."

Her mother lovingly patted her head.

"Don't worry. Good friendships take time."

Those words comforted her.

That evening, as she lay in bed, she replayed the entire day in her mind.

The classroom.

The teacher.

The smiling faces.

The laughter.

She closed her eyes and imagined tomorrow.

Perhaps someone would notice her.

Perhaps someone would save her a seat.

Perhaps someone would ask her to play during recess.

Perhaps...

This was only the first day.

She hugged her pillow tightly and smiled into the darkness.

She had no idea that this small hope—so innocent and beautiful—would quietly stay with her for many years, growing stronger with every new beginning and breaking a little more with every silent ending.

But for now...

She believed tomorrow would be the day her story truly began.

End of Episode 1

"Some dreams don't begin with love... they begin with hope."

Episode 2 - Waiting for Tomorrow

The next morning, Aisha woke up earlier than usual.

She carefully wore her neatly ironed school uniform and stood in front of the mirror. She brushed her hair twice, making sure not a single strand was out of place. Her mother smiled as she watched her daughter checking herself over and over again.

"You look beautiful," her mother said warmly.

Aisha smiled shyly.

"Do you think... I'll make a friend today?"

Her mother gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind Aisha's ear.

"I think every friendship starts with a little patience."

Those words stayed in Aisha's mind all the way to school.

As she entered the classroom, she looked around with quiet excitement.

Maybe today someone would wave at her.

Maybe someone would save her a seat.

Maybe someone would remember her name.

But the classroom was already filled with laughter. Children were talking in little groups as if they had known each other forever.

No one noticed when she quietly walked to her desk.

She sat down, placed her bag beside her chair, and looked out of the window.

"It's okay," she whispered to herself. "The day has only just begun."

The teacher started the lessons, and Aisha listened carefully. She loved learning. Every answer written on the blackboard fascinated her, and she worked hard to complete every exercise before anyone else.

The teacher often praised her.

"Very good, Aisha."

Each compliment made her happy.

But when she looked around, she noticed something.

Everyone celebrated their achievements with friends.

Aisha celebrated hers alone.

When recess arrived, the playground came alive with excitement.

Some children played tag.

Others skipped rope or chased footballs across the field.

Aisha stood near a large tree, watching them laugh.

She wanted to join.

She really did.

But every group already seemed complete.

She took one small step forward...

Then stopped.

"What if they don't want me there?"

The thought frightened her more than being alone.

So she quietly sat beneath the tree and watched the clouds drift across the bright blue sky.

She imagined one of the girls running over.

"Come play with us!"

But no one came.

After lunch, the class was asked to work in pairs on a drawing activity.

Aisha's heart raced.

"This is my chance."

Before she could ask anyone, children quickly chose their partners.

Within seconds, everyone had someone beside them.

Everyone...

Except her.

The teacher noticed immediately.

"It's alright," she said kindly. "I'll be your partner today."

Aisha smiled politely, but inside her heart felt strangely heavy.

She wasn't upset with the teacher.

She was grateful.

But she wished, just once, another student had chosen her first.

When the final bell rang, children rushed outside together, laughing and making plans for tomorrow.

"I'll bring my new game!"

"Let's sit together again!"

"See you tomorrow!"

Aisha walked behind them quietly, listening to conversations she wasn't part of.

At home, she opened her small notebook.

It wasn't a diary—not yet.

She simply wrote one sentence with her favourite blue pencil.

"Tomorrow, maybe someone will talk to me."

She stared at the words for a long time before closing the notebook.

That night, she looked out of her bedroom window at the stars.

Some were bright.

Some were hidden behind clouds.

She wondered if people were like stars too.

Maybe everyone shines eventually.

Maybe her time simply hadn't come yet.

She smiled softly before closing her eyes.

Tomorrow was another chance.

Another hope.

Another beginning.

And although no one knew it, Aisha would carry that hope into every new school year, believing that somewhere ahead, someone was waiting to notice her.

End of Episode 2

"Hope is a quiet voice that whispers, 'Try again tomorrow,' even after today ends in silence."

Episode 3 - The Invisible Girl

A few months had passed since Aisha's first day at school.

The excitement she had once felt every morning slowly began to fade. She still woke up early, wore her uniform neatly, and carried her favourite blue backpack, but the hope she held in her heart wasn't as bright as before.

Every day felt almost the same.

She entered the classroom.

She greeted the teacher politely.

She sat quietly at her desk.

Then she watched everyone else laugh together.

By now, the children had formed close friendships. They shared snacks during lunch, exchanged colourful erasers, and whispered secrets that made them burst into laughter.

Aisha smiled whenever she saw them happy.

She wasn't angry.

She wasn't jealous.

She simply wished she had someone to laugh with too.

One afternoon, during art class, the teacher announced, "Today we'll make a poster together. You may choose a group of four."

The classroom immediately became noisy.

"I'll join you!"

"Come to our group!"

"We still need one more!"

Children rushed across the room, calling each other's names.

Aisha looked around, waiting for someone to notice her.

She even smiled at a girl sitting nearby, hoping she might ask.

But the girl looked past her and invited someone else instead.

Within minutes, every group was complete.

Aisha remained standing beside her desk.

The teacher looked around the room before noticing her.

"Aisha, you can join my table," she said gently.

She nodded with a small smile.

"Okay, ma'am."

She tried to act as though nothing was wrong, but deep inside, her heart ached.

"Why am I always the last person left?" she wondered.

That question stayed with her for the rest of the day.

After school, rain began to pour heavily.

Most students waited under the school roof with their friends, talking and laughing while they watched the rain.

Aisha stood quietly in a corner.

She listened to their conversations without saying a word.

One girl accidentally bumped into her.

"Oh... sorry."

"It's okay," Aisha replied softly.

The girl smiled politely before running back to her friends.

It was only a small moment.

But for Aisha, it was the first time a classmate had spoken to her all day.

That evening, while doing her homework, she couldn't stop thinking.

"Maybe I'm too quiet."

"Maybe I'm boring."

"Maybe there's something wrong with me."

She looked at herself in the mirror.

She saw the same brown eyes.

The same gentle smile.

The same girl she had always been.

Nothing seemed different.

Yet somehow, she always felt invisible.

Her mother entered the room carrying a glass of warm milk.

"What are you thinking about so seriously?" she asked.

Aisha hesitated.

Then she quietly asked,

"Ammi... why do some people have so many friends while others don't have any?"

Her mother sat beside her and gently held her hand.

"Sometimes people find friends quickly. Sometimes it takes longer. It doesn't mean you're less worthy of love or kindness."

Aisha wanted to believe those words.

She really did.

But children don't always understand patience.

They only understand the feeling of being left behind.

That night, before sleeping, she opened the little notebook she had started writing in.

Under yesterday's sentence, she wrote another.

"Today nobody chose me again."

She stared at the words until her eyes became blurry.

A single tear rolled down her cheek and landed on the page, smudging the blue ink.

She quickly wiped it away before anyone could see.

Then she closed the notebook and hugged it tightly against her chest.

Outside, the moon shone brightly across the silent night.

The world looked peaceful.

But inside Aisha's heart, a small crack had begun to form.

It wasn't caused by cruel words.

Or bullying.

Or rejection.

It was created by something much quieter...

The feeling of being invisible.
