The Flower He Couldn't Destroy
PROLOGUE
Is it supposed to make you feel safe?
Then why did mine always hurt?
My mother called it love. My first love called it love.
But all I remember... are the curses, the harshness, and the silence.
People say life is like a book. Every person you meet becomes a chapter.
Some chapters make us smile. Others leave scars that never completely fade.
For years... I kept rereading the chapter that broke me... until life forced me to turn the page.
Flowers are delicate. Step on them, they wither. Leave them in the dark, they stop blooming.
That's what everyone believed would happen to me
I spent years trying to be enough for people who had already decided I wasn't.
Maybe I wasn't born to be loved...
Maybe I was born to learn what love was never supposed to be.
I learned the hard way... some chapters are meant to end, no matter how much they hurt.
The cruelest part of life isn't the pain...
It's finally believing you're happy... only to have it taken away.
The real tragedy of life is that you get used to the good things too. You let your guard down... and then they rip it away.
They thought they could break me completely. They were wrong.
Because even after everything... I survived.

Chapter 1: Good Morning, Scarlett
Rain tapped softly against the bedroom window.
Scarlett reached over and quickly turned off her alarm before it could wake anyone else.

(Another day...)

(Good morning, Scarlett.)
She forced herself to smile.

Let's survive today too.
Quietly, she folded her blanket, made her bed, and slipped on her oversized hoodie.
The house was still asleep.
Or so she thought.
She carefully walked downstairs.
The sink was already overflowing with dirty dishes.

(I should finish before everyone wakes up..)
Without a word, she rolled up her sleeves.
Running water filled the silent kitchen.
An hour passed. Her hands turned raw under the freezing water, but she didn't stop. By the time the kitchen sparkled, the rich smell of breakfast filled the air. She placed the plates neatly on the glass table. She didn't make one for herself.

(I'll eat at university... if I have enough money.)
Footsteps echoed from upstairs.
Her smile slowly disappeared.
The bedroom door opened.
Someone was awake.
Scarlett instinctively lowered her head.

(Please...)

(Just let today be quiet.)
Chapter 2: Not Good Enough
The rain had finally stopped.
The kitchen was spotless.
Breakfast sat neatly on the dining table.
Every plate was perfectly arranged.
Only one chair remained empty.
The scar quietly wiped the last drop of water from the counter.
She looked around the kitchen one last time.

(Everything's finished.)
A small smile appeared on her lips.
Maybe...
Just maybe...
Today would be peaceful.
Slow footsteps echoed from the staircase.
A woman, dressed elegantly despite the early hour, walked into the kitchen without sparing the girl a glance.
Her eyes scanned the room.
Then...
They stopped on the dining table.

"Y-Yes..."
She picked up a spoon.
She looked at it for only a second before placing it back down.
Scarlett lowered her head.

"I'm sorry... I'll warm it up."
fl/scar/Scarlett Hale/Carter
(Maybe I made it too early...)
Without another word, Scarlett hurried toward the stove.
???
"You always make everything harder than it needs to be."
fl/scar/Scarlett Hale/Carter
(...I'm trying.)
She quietly reheated the food.
Not once did she defend herself.
Not once did she complain.
A few minutes later, she carefully placed the warm plate back onto the table.
the woman took another bite.
Silence filled the room.
Then—
???
"Go iron Brianna's uniform."
fl/scar/Scarlett Hale/Carter
"...Okay."
???
"And don't touch anything that belongs to her."
fl/scar/Scarlett Hale/Carter
"I understand."
She climbed the stairs without another word.
fl/scar/Scarlett Hale/Carter
(it kinda sad I can't stay mad.)
She gently opened the bedroom door.
Before she could step inside—
A loud scream echoed through the hallway.
Scarlett's heart skipped a beat.

(...What happened?)
