The morning bell echoed through Westbrook High School, filling the hallways with the usual rush of students trying to make it to class before the second bell.
A voice called from the end of the hallway.
Elias Carter turned around just in time to catch a chocolate milk carton that had been tossed toward him.

You missed breakfast again
Noah Hayes asked, walking over with a grin.
Elias shrugged, slipping the carton into his backpack.

I was running late.

You say that every morning.

And every morning you're there to save me.

Well someone has to.
The two laughed as they made their way to class, shoulders occasionally bumping into each other in the crowded hallway.
Most students didn't think much of it.
Those who knew them simply smiled.
After all, everyone knew Elias and Noah.
By lunchtime, the cafeteria was louder than ever.
Noah sat across from Elias, watching him eat the sandwich he'd packed.

They both burst into laughter.
The final bell rang just after three o'clock
Outside the school gates, a familiar figure waited with a backpack almost as big as he was.
The moment he spotted Elias, his face lit up.
Luca Carter ran toward his older brother at full speed.
Elias barely had time to open his arms before Luca crashed into him.

You promised we'd walk home together!

And I keep my promises.
Luca beamed before turning to Noah.
Noah held out a small paper bag.

The chocolate ones?(asking excitedly)

The only kind you'll eat
Without thinking, Luca wrapped Noah in a hug

Noah laughed softly, hugging him back

You say that every time I bring snacks.

Because it's true.
Elias watched the two of them with a smile.
Sometimes it felt like Noah wasn't just his boyfriend.
The three of them started the walk home together, talking about school, homework, and Luca's upcoming soccer match.
Luca talked the entire way.
Elias and Noah mostly listened.
As they reached their neighborhood, the sun began to sink lower in the sky, painting the streets in shades of gold.
Elias looked at the two people beside him and smiled.

This...(he said quietly.)

Even when I talk too much?(Elias chuckled.)
