Unwanted Vows (Taekook)
Morning~
The first morning of their marriage dawned grey and heavy~ as if the sky itself mourned the union.
Jungkook woke before sunrise~ his body stiff from the restless night spent on the cold floor of the hotel suite.
His neck ached~ his eyes burned~ and his heart felt like a stone lodged in his chest.
Across the room~ Taehyung lay perfectly still on the massive bed~ his back turned toward Jungkook.
His breathing was even~ but Jungkook knew he wasn't sleeping. He had heard Taehyung tossing and turning through the night~ the soft rustle of silk sheets betraying his own sleeplessness.
The suite was lavish~ decorated with white roses and golden accents—his mother's doing.
Everything about this wedding had been his mother's doing~ his grandmother's doing~ his dying grandfather's doing.
No one had asked what Jeon Jungkook wanted. No one cared that he had made promises to someone else.
Jungkook rose from the floor~ his joints protesting.
He stretched his arms above his head~ rolling his neck to ease the stiffness. The sound of his movement made Taehyung shift slightly~ but he didn't turn around.
The bathroom door stood between them~ a silent battleground.
Jungkook needed to wash away the stench of yesterday—the flowers~ the perfume~ the fake smiles~ the way Taehyung had looked at him with those blank~ unreadable eyes during the ceremony.
He walked toward the bathroom~ his footsteps deliberately heavy on the marble floor.
Taehyung sat up immediately~ his golden hair a mess around his face~ his eyes still puffy from crying. Jungkook noticed. He didn't care.
Jungkook
I'm taking a bath first~
Jungkook said~ his voice flat and cold.
Taehyung's jaw tightened.
He swung his legs off the bed~ standing to face Jungkook.
Despite the early hour~ despite the tears that had clearly stained his cheeks~ there was fire in his eyes.
It was the first sign of emotion Jungkook had seen from him since the wedding.
Taehyung
I need to get ready too~
Taehyung said~ his voice soft but firm.
Taehyung
My parents are here. I can't look like this.
Jungkook
I don't care about your parents~
Jungkook replied~ stepping closer to the bathroom door.
Jungkook
I was here first. I'm taking the bath.
Taehyung moved to block his path.
Taehyung
You slept on the floor. You're not even supposed to be in this room. So you can wait.
The words hit Jungkook like a slap. Not because they were cruel~ but because they were true.
He wasn't supposed to be here. He was supposed to be with Seok~ planning their future~ laughing at his jokes~ touching his face.
Instead~ he was trapped in a hotel suite with a stranger who had the audacity to argue with him.
Jungkook's hands curled into fists.
Taehyung said~ standing his ground. His body trembled slightly~ but he didn't back down.
Taehyung
You've already taken everything from me. You can wait ten minutes.
Before Jungkook could respond~ his phone buzzed loudly from his coat pocket. He pulled it out~ his heart stopping when he saw the name on the screen.

play perfect spouse~
His thumb hovered over the answer button.
Taehyung was still standing there~ watching him with those dark~ accusing eyes.
Jungkook's anger boiled over.
Jungkook
This is your fault~
He hissed~ pointing the phone at Taehyung like a weapon.
Jungkook
If it weren't for you~ I wouldn't have to lie to him. I wouldn't have to hide. I wouldn't have to be here.
Taehyung's expression didn't change.
He simply stepped aside~ his arms crossed over his chest.
Taehyung
Answer your call. I'll take a bath.
He disappeared into the bathroom~ closing the door with a soft click. The sound of running water filled the suite moments later.
Jungkook stared at the closed door~ his chest heaving. Then he answered the phone.
He breathed~ his voice cracking.
Jungkook
📲 I'm sorry. I was—I was just busy.
Seok
📲baby~ I've been calling you for two days!
Seok's voice was light and teasing~ but there was a sharp edge underneath.
Seok
📲Where have you been~?? You missed our dinner date. I was so worried.
Jungkook's throat closed up.
How could he tell him~?? How could he possibly explain that his grandfather's dying wish had forced him to marry a stranger~??
That the life they had planned together was over before it even began~??
He repeated~ his voice weak.
Jungkook
📲Something came up. Family emergency. I'll explain everything later.
Seok
📲A family emergency~??
Seok laughed~ but there was suspicion in his tone.
Seok
📲Your family is always having emergencies. Can you just come over~?? I miss you. I got a new outfit and everything. I wanted to show you.
Jungkook closed his eyes~ picturing Seok's excited face~ his playful grin~ the way his eyes sparkled when he wanted attention.
He thought about the new outfit Seok would be wearing~ probably something tight and colorful~ something meant to make Jungkook's heart race..
Jungkook
📲I'll call you tomorrow. I promise.
Seok
📲You keep saying that~
Seok
📲 Fine. But you owe me~ Jeon Jungkook. A big~ big apology.
Jungkook
📲I know. I know I do. I'll make it up to you. I promise.
They hung up. Jungkook sank onto the edge of the bed~ his head in his hands.
He could still hear the water running in the bathroom~ could still imagine Taehyung on the other side of that door~ washing away the night's tears.
This was his life now. Lies secrets~ and a husband he hated.
The dining hall of the Jeon family estate was enormous~ designed to seat at least thirty people.
Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling~ casting warm light over the long mahogany table.
Silver platters of food lined the center kimchi~ rice~ grilled fish~ soups~ and various side dishes that Jungkook's mother had personally prepared.
Jungkook sat at one end of the table~ his face sullen and his eyes fixed on his untouched plate.
His family surrounded him~ their cheerful chatter grating on his nerves.
At the other end sat Taehyung~ dressed impeccably in a soft cream sweater that made his golden skin glow. His parents sat beside him~ their faces tight with forced smiles.
Taehyung's parents had flown in from London for the wedding.
They were wealthy~ sophisticated people who had clearly raised their son with high expectations.
Jungkook could see the disappointment in their eyes~ the way they glanced at him and then quickly looked away.
They had forced Taehyung into this marriage~ just as Jungkook's family had forced him.
But at least Taehyung's parents looked guilty about it. Jungkook's family acted like they had done him a favor.
Mrs jeon
Eat~ Taehyung-ah~
Jungkook's mother said~ her voice saccharine sweet.
Mrs jeon
You're so thin. You need to take care of yourself. You're part of this family now.
Taehyung nodded politely~ picking up his spoon.
He took a small bite of rice~ chewing slowly. His eyes were trained on his plate~ refusing to meet anyone's gaze.
Jungkook watched him from across the table~ a bitter taste in his mouth.
Taehyung was beautiful—he couldn't deny that. With his sharp features~ his deep brown eyes~ his perfect pout.
But beauty meant nothing when the person behind it was a stranger. A stranger who had ruined Jungkook's life...
Taehyung's mother reached over and patted his hand.
Mrs jeon
My darling~ you look tired. Did you sleep well~??
Taehyung flinched slightly at the touch.
Taehyung
I slept fine~ Mother.
His father added~ his voice stern.
Mr kim
You look pale. You need to rest. Marriage is a big adjustment~ but you'll get used to it.
Jungkook's father cleared his throat.
Mr jeon
Indeed. Jungkook and Taehyung are very lucky. This alliance will strengthen both our families. Jeon and Kim~ united at last.
Taehyung's father echoed~ though his voice lacked enthusiasm.
Jungkook gripped his chopsticks so hard his knuckles turned white. United.
They made it sound like a business merger~ not a marriage. Not two people who were supposed to love each other.
He glanced at Taehyung again~ and for just a moment~ their eyes met. There was so much pain in Taehyung's gaze~ so much anger buried beneath that calm exterior.
He looked away first~ his jaw clenching.
Jungkook's grandfather sat at the head of the table~ hunched over in his wheelchair.
He was a frail old man~ his skin paper-thin~ his eyes clouded with age. A nurse stood behind him~ ready to assist at any moment.
The old man's health was failing. Everyone knew it. That was why this wedding had happened so quickly~ so desperately.
Grandfather wanted to see his youngest grandson married before he died.
And Jungkook had been sacrificed for that wish.
Grandfather rasped~ his voice barely above a whisper.
Grandpa Jeon
Come here. Let me look at you.
Jungkook rose from his seat~ his legs heavy. He walked around the table to stand before his grandfather~ his head bowed.
Grandpa Jeon
You've done well~
The old man said~ reaching up to pat Jungkook's cheek.
Grandpa Jeon
Your wife is beautiful. You'll have beautiful children together.
Jungkook's stomach turned. Children. They were already talking about children.
Jungkook
Thank you~ Grandfather~
He forced himself to say. Grandfather turned his gaze toward Taehyung.
Grandpa Jeon
Come~ child. Let me see your face.
Taehyung stood~ walking over with the grace of someone who had been trained to obey.
He knelt beside the wheelchair~ looking up at the old man with an expression that Jungkook couldn't quite read.
It wasn't affection. It wasn't hatred. It was something in between. Resignation~ perhaps.
Grandpa Jeon
Just like I imagined. You'll take care of my grandson~ won't you~??
Taehyung's lips pressed together.
Taehyung
Yes~ Grandfather.
Grandpa Jeon
Good. That's good.
Jungkook watched the exchange with a cold heart. Taehyung was playing the perfect spouse~ bowing and smiling and saying all the right things. But Jungkook knew the truth. Taehyung hated this just as much as he did. Maybe more....
no choice~
Breakfast continued~ the conversation drifting to other topics. Taehyung's parents talked about their life in London~ about the art galleries they visited and the charity events they attended. Jungkook's parents pretended to be interested~ nodding along with practiced smiles..
Taehyung himself remained silent~ picking at his food. His hands trembled slightly as he lifted his spoon.
Jungkook noticed the tremor~ the way Taehyung's fingers tightened around the handle.
For a moment~ almost against his will~ Jungkook felt a flicker of something. Pity~ perhaps. Or guilt.
He crushed it immediately.
After breakfast~ Jungkook retreated to his room—their room~ he reminded himself bitterly.
The master bedroom had been prepared for them~ decorated in soft blues and whites.
A massive bed dominated the space~ its silk sheets smooth and inviting.
Jungkook wanted to throw the sheets off. He wanted to tear down the flowers~ the candles~ the ridiculous romantic atmosphere his mother had created. This wasn't a love nest. It was a prison.
Taehyung entered a few minutes later after jungkook~ his face tired and drawn. He walked to the suitcase pulling out his clothes without a word.
Jungkook
I'm taking the bed~
Jungkook announced~ his voice flat. Taehyung turned to look at him.
Taehyung
Jungkook~ this is ridiculous.
Taehyung's voice was quiet but firm.
Taehyung
We're married. We have to live together. We can't keep fighting over a bed.
Jungkook
I'll sleep on the floor again. Or the couch. I don't care. But I'm not sharing a bed with you.
Taehyung's eyes flashed with anger.
Taehyung
Fine. You take the bed. I'll sleep on the floor.
Jungkook
I already said I'll sleep on the floor.
Taehyung
And I'm telling you I'll sleep on the floor. I'm not going to argue with you about this.
They stood there~ glaring at each other. The tension between them was suffocating~ a tangible force that filled the room.
Finally~ Taehyung walked to the closet~ pulling out a spare blanket and pillow. He dropped them on the floor near the window~ a clear message.
Taehyung
We're married~ whether we like it or not. I'm not going to run away. I'm not going to make this easy for you.
Jungkook stared at him~ his jaw tight.
Jungkook
You think this is easy for me~?? You think I wanted this~?? You destroyed my life.
Taehyung
I destroyed your life~??
Taehyung laughed~ but there was no humor in it.
Taehyung
You think I wanted to marry someone who looks at me like I'm garbage~?? You think I wanted to leave my home~ my friends~ everything I knew~ to come here and be treated like a burden~??
Jungkook
Then why did you do it~??
Jungkook
Why did you agree to this~??
Taehyung's face crumpled~ and for a moment~ Jungkook saw the pain beneath the anger.
Taehyung
Because I had no choice. Just like you.
jungkook turned away~ grabbing his pillow and blanket.
Jungkook
I'm going to find somewhere else to sleep. The guest room~ maybe. I don't care. Just... stay away from me.
He stormed out of the room~ slamming the door behind him.
Taehyung stood there~ his chest heaving. The room was silent now~ the echo of words still ringing in his ears.
