My Fated Enigma (Taekook)
Chapter 1 — Eight Years of Waiting
Morning sunlight poured through the tall windows of the Kim Mansion, falling across an unnecessarily large breakfast table where the Kim family had somehow turned a peaceful morning into complete chaos.
Kim Seokjin/O/Tae's Elder Brother
Taehyung, if you stare at that tablet any harder, the financial reports might become frightened and correct themselves.
Taehyung continued scrolling through the report without looking up. Across from him, Jimin covered his mouth, failing miserably to hide his laughter from his elder brother.
Kim Taehyung/É
Unlike some people at this table, I have actual work waiting for me this morning.
Kim Jimin/SA/Tae's Younger Brother
I have university. That is also work, and my suffering is much greater than yours.
Kim Namjoon/A/Tae's bro-in-law
You skipped your first lecture yesterday because you said mornings were personally attacking you.
Kim Jimin/SA/Tae's Younger Brother
Exactly. You understand my suffering better than anyone, Namjoon hyung.
Seokjin shook his head while Ji-Eun placed another dish near Taehyung. Her youngest Enigma had barely touched anything since sitting down, despite leaving home before sunrise most mornings.
Kim Ji-Eun/RO/Tae's Mother
Stop working for ten minutes and eat properly. Your company will survive breakfast without its terrifying CEO.
Kim Taehyung/É
I already ate, Mom. Jimin has been stealing from my plate since he sat down.
Kim Jimin/SA/Tae's Younger Brother
Those are serious accusations. Do you have evidence, or are you abusing your power again?
Jimin quickly stole another piece of fruit from Taehyung's plate. Taehyung finally lifted his eyes, staring silently until his younger brother slowly returned it with an innocent smile.
At the head of the table, Jong-suk lowered his newspaper. His expression remained serious, but the slight movement at the corner of his mouth revealed his amusement.
Kim Jong-suk/DA/Tae's Father
Your mother mentioned the Han family gathering this weekend. They invited several families this time.
Taehyung's hand stopped over his coffee.
He already knew where this conversation was going.
Kim Taehyung/É
I have meetings this weekend.
Kim Seokjin/O/Tae's Elder Brother
You always have meetings whenever Mother mentions a gathering with unmated people. What an incredible coincidence.
Kim Taehyung/É
Perhaps people should stop organizing gatherings and pretending they are not arranging potential matches.
The humor around the table softened. Ji-Eun looked at her son quietly, and Taehyung immediately recognized the concern she tried to hide from him.
He had been eighteen when his wolf first began searching.
At first, every unfamiliar scent had filled him with hope. Every crowded event had seemed like a possibility. Every journey had carried one silent question.
Kim Taehyung/É
💭"Could my mate be there?"
Year after year, the answer remained the same.
Kim Ji-Eun/RO/Tae's Mother
You don't have to attend. I only wanted you to know about the invitation.
Kim Taehyung/É
Mom, don't look at me like that. I'm fine. I stopped expecting anything years ago.
The words were meant to reassure her.
Instead, Ji-Eun's expression became sadder.
Deep inside Taehyung's mind, the powerful wolf who had remained unusually silent throughout breakfast finally stirred with immediate displeasure.
Taehyung lifted his coffee, hiding the brief tension in his jaw from his family.
Kim Taehyung/É
"You have said that for eight years."
Kim V
Then I will say it until we find him.
Taehyung closed his eyes briefly. V had never stopped believing. Perhaps that was why Taehyung had been forced to carry enough disappointment for both of them.
Several hours later, the warmth of the Kim Mansion had disappeared behind the glass walls of Kim Empire Headquarters, where employees straightened instinctively whenever their CEO passed.
The man who allowed Jimin to steal from his plate no longer existed.
Here, Kim Taehyung was an Enigma, the CEO of the country's largest business empire, and a man whose displeasure could terrify an entire boardroom.
Lalisa Manobal/A/Tae's PA
Your nine o'clock meeting ended early. The directors from Busan are waiting, and Min Yoongi arrived without an appointment again.
Kim Taehyung/É
Send the directors into Conference Room One. Tell Yoongi he can wait.
Min Yoongi/DA/Tae's BFF
I can hear you.
Taehyung looked toward the open office door. Yoongi stood there holding a coffee, completely unconcerned by the irritated expression Lisa directed at him.
Lalisa Manobal/A/Tae's PA
Mr. Min, normal people schedule meetings before entering the CEO's private office.
Min Yoongi/DA/Tae's BFF
Fortunately, I have never claimed to be normal. Taehyung, we need to discuss the joint development project.
Kim Taehyung/É
We discussed it yesterday.
Min Yoongi/DA/Tae's BFF
You rejected three proposals in seven minutes. I wouldn't call that a discussion.
Yoongi entered anyway and dropped into the chair opposite Taehyung's desk. Lisa sighed before placing another file beside Taehyung's laptop.
Lalisa Manobal/A/Tae's PA
There is also an internal report concerning one of our hotels. The management records have shown repeated inconsistencies.
Taehyung immediately opened the file. His expression sharpened as he examined the numbers, missing signatures, delayed maintenance reports, and several unexplained differences in operational records.
Kim Taehyung/É
How long has this been happening?
Lalisa Manobal/A/Tae's PA
The smaller issues began two months ago. The latest report suggests someone should inspect the hotel directly.
Min Yoongi/DA/Tae's BFF
There goes your weekend. Your mother will be devastated that another mysterious meeting appeared.
Taehyung slowly raised his eyes. Yoongi calmly drank his coffee.
Kim Taehyung/É
Why does everyone know about that conversation?
Min Yoongi/DA/Tae's BFF
Jin called me. Your family has no respect for confidential information.
Taehyung ignored him and returned his attention to the hotel report. Something about the inconsistencies bothered him, though there was no reason to consider the matter personally significant.
Kim Taehyung/É
Keep the complete report ready. I'll decide when the inspection will happen.
Lalisa Manobal/A/Tae's PA
Understood.
Lisa left to rearrange the schedule while Yoongi began discussing their joint project. Taehyung listened, unaware that the ordinary hotel report remained open on his desk.
For eight years, he had searched through crowded events, distant cities, business gatherings, and endless unfamiliar faces.
He had never once considered looking inside one of his own hotels.
Chapter 2 — The Spoiled Youngest Son
The Jeon household had been peaceful for exactly six minutes that morning.
Then Ji-won looked at the clock, realized her youngest son had not come downstairs, and peace immediately disappeared from the house.
Jeon Ji-won/O/Kook's Mother
Jungkook! If you don't come downstairs right now, I'm giving your breakfast to Hoseok!
A loud crash came from the second floor.
A moment later, Jungkook rushed down the stairs with his university shirt half tucked in and his dark hair still messy from sleep.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Mom! You can't threaten me with starvation just because I slept for five extra minutes!
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Five? You turned off three alarms. I heard every single one through the wall.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Why were you listening to my alarms instead of minding your own business?
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Because your alarms wake the entire neighborhood except the person they're supposed to wake.
Jungkook dropped into his chair and immediately reached for the plate in front of him. Hoseok moved it away before his younger brother could touch anything.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Give that back. I have classes today, and my brain requires proper nutrition.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Interesting. Yesterday you said your brain couldn't function before noon, so breakfast seems completely wasted on you.
Jungkook narrowed his eyes.
Their father continued reading something on his phone as though two grown sons were not about to fight over toast directly beside him.
Jeon Seojoon/A/Kook's Father
If either of you knocks something over, you're both cleaning the kitchen before leaving.
Both brothers immediately became still.
Ji-won placed a fresh plate in front of Jungkook. Hoseok stared at his mother with betrayal while Jungkook smiled victoriously and began eating.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
This is exactly why he's spoiled. You reward him for waking up late.
Jeon Ji-won/O/Kook's Mother
He has a long day.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
I work at the bakery all day!
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Hyung, jealousy is an ugly emotion. You should learn to be happy for your younger brother.
Hoseok reached across the table. Jungkook immediately hid behind his mother.
At nineteen, Jeon Jungkook was fully capable of defending himself. As an Alpha, he was stronger than his Omega brother, but strength became irrelevant whenever their mother was available as protection.
Ji-won pushed both sons apart before returning to the kitchen.
Jeon Ji-won/O/Kook's Mother
Jungkook, come straight home after university. We need help at the bakery this evening.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Mom, I have assignments. Very important assignments that require complete concentration.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Yesterday, your important assignment was washing your motorcycle for two hours.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Maintenance is a responsibility. You wouldn't understand the bond between a man and his machine.
Seojoon finally put his phone down and looked at his youngest son.
Jeon Seojoon/A/Kook's Father
Your brother is right about one thing. You should become more responsible before finding your mate.
Jungkook stopped chewing.
Then he sat straighter, looking personally offended by the suggestion that he might not be prepared for his future.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I'll be extremely responsible when I find my Omega. They'll never have to worry about anything.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Your future Omega will spend every morning searching for your keys, wallet, bag, and common sense.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I will protect them, spoil them, and treat them better than anyone else could.
Jeon Ji-won/O/Kook's Mother
First, learn to put your dirty clothes inside the laundry basket instead of beside it.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Why is everyone attacking me during breakfast?
Laughter filled the small dining room.
Jungkook complained loudly, but there was no real anger behind it. This was how mornings had always been in the Jeon household—noisy, warm, and filled with people who knew exactly how to annoy him.
After breakfast, Jungkook searched the living room for his university bag. Hoseok watched from the doorway with folded arms.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Responsible Alpha.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I know where it is.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
You're checking behind the sofa.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Because I remember putting it somewhere near the sofa.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
It's beside the front door.
Jungkook immediately walked toward it as though that had been his plan from the beginning.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I was testing whether you knew.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Your future Omega has my deepest sympathy.
Twenty minutes later, Jungkook stood outside the family bakery, completely transformed by the sight of the black motorcycle waiting near the entrance.
He ran one hand carefully over the handlebar before checking the tires.
Ji-won and Hoseok were opening the bakery while Seojoon prepared to leave for work.
Jeon Seojoon/A/Kook's Father
Jungkook, ride carefully. The roads are crowded in the mornings.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Dad, you tell me this every day. I'm an excellent rider.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Excellent riders don't receive speeding warnings from their fathers every morning.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I don't speed.
Three members of his family stared at him. Jungkook looked offended.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Fine. I don't speed irresponsibly.
Ji-won shook her head and walked inside the bakery. The familiar smell of fresh bread and sweet pastries drifted through the open door.
The bakery was not large or famous. It belonged to their family.
Ji-won had built it through years of work, and Hoseok now spent most of his days helping her manage orders, customers, and the endless problems Jungkook carefully avoided.
Jeon Ji-won/O/Kook's Mother
Come home early and help us with the evening orders!
Jeon Jungkook/Á
If my professors release me from academic imprisonment, I'll consider it!
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
That means he'll ask what food we're making before deciding!
Jungkook ignored him and put on his helmet.
Seojoon walked toward his own car before suddenly returning. He pulled some money from his wallet and quietly handed it to Jungkook.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Dad, Mom already gave me money.
Jeon Seojoon/A/Kook's Father
Keep it for emergencies. Don't tell your brother.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
I'm standing right here!
Jungkook burst into laughter while Seojoon quickly walked away.
He slipped the money into his pocket and climbed onto his motorcycle, completely pleased with himself.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Being the youngest is a blessing. You should have thought about that before being born first.
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Go to university before I make you walk there!
Jungkook started the motorcycle. The engine came alive beneath him, and his smile widened immediately.
He loved his family. He loved university. He loved his motorcycle.
And somewhere in the future, Jungkook was certain a beautiful Omega mate was waiting for him.
His life, as far as he knew, was going exactly the way it was supposed to.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
See you tonight! Tell Mom I want the strawberry pastries saved for me!
Jeon Hoseok/O/Kook's Elder Brother
Buy your own!
Jungkook rode away laughing.
Behind him, Hoseok watched until the motorcycle disappeared at the end of the street before returning inside the bakery.
None of them knew that Jungkook's perfectly imagined future was already moving toward him.
It simply looked nothing like the beautiful Omega he was expecting.
Chapter 3 — My Beautiful Omega
The familiar roar of Jungkook's motorcycle announced his arrival before he entered the SNU parking area, earning several glances as he smoothly stopped beside the designated motorcycle spaces.
Jungkook removed his helmet and immediately checked the time. He was not late. Technically.
He still had four minutes before class began, which Jungkook considered an impressive achievement after the chaos his family had created that morning.
Unknown
You ignored seven messages, but somehow found time to post three pictures of your motorcycle.
Felix stood several steps away with his arms folded, his expression far too judgmental for someone who had once forgotten an entire university assignment at home.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I was busy getting ready. Posting pictures takes seconds, while replying to you requires emotional preparation.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
You sent me a motorcycle video at two in the morning. I deserve better treatment.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
That was an educational video. You should appreciate how seriously I take your intellectual development.
Felix stared at him for several seconds before turning toward the main university building. Jungkook grabbed his bag and hurried after his best friend.
They had lived in the same neighborhood for years, although university had placed them in completely different departments.
Jungkook studied Business while Felix had chosen Arts, something neither family found surprising.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
If we miss breakfast tomorrow because you oversleep again, I'm coming to your house personally.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
My mother already threatens me every morning. Your presence would only make the situation more annoying.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
Your mother feeds you after threatening you. That is why none of her warnings actually work.
Jungkook opened his mouth to defend himself, then stopped. Felix was unfortunately correct.
They separated for their morning lectures and met again several hours later inside the crowded university cafeteria, where Jungkook immediately began stealing food from Felix's tray.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
Why do you constantly steal my food when your mother packs enough lunch for three people?
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Food tastes better when it belongs to someone who doesn't want to share it.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
Your future mate is going to return you to your family within one week.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Impossible. My future Omega will be completely in love with me.
Felix slowly lowered his drink.
The conversation had started because of stolen food, but Jungkook's confidence immediately became serious enough to attract his friend's complete attention.
At the next table, a student smiled brightly after receiving flowers from their partner. Jungkook glanced toward them before leaning comfortably against his chair.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I'll treat my Omega even better. Flowers, dates, gifts—everything they want.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
You cannot remember your own assignment deadlines, but you're already planning an imaginary Omega's entire life.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
I remember important things. My mate will obviously be more important than some professor's deadline.
Felix laughed, shaking his head.
Jungkook had always spoken about his future this way. In his mind, there was no uncertainty. He was an Alpha, and somewhere in the world, an Omega was waiting for him.
He imagined someone beautiful and sweet. Someone he could protect. Someone he could spoil.
Someone who would look at him and see a strong, dependable Alpha instead of the youngest son everyone still treated like a child.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
What if your mate isn't anything like the person you're imagining right now?
Jeon Jungkook/Á
They'll still be beautiful. Fate has excellent taste because it chose me as their Alpha.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
I meant what if your mate is stronger than you?
Jungkook immediately frowned.
The possibility seemed ridiculous enough that he wondered why Felix had even wasted time asking.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Then fate clearly delivered the wrong person, and I will request an immediate replacement.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
What if fate doesn't accept returns?
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Then I'll argue with fate personally until someone fixes the obvious mistake.
Felix laughed so loudly that two students turned toward them.
Jungkook ignored him and continued eating, completely certain there was nothing strange about his expectations.
His parents were an Alpha and Omega pair. Hoseok was an Omega. Most Alphas Jungkook knew expected Omega partners. Why would his future be any different?
After their afternoon classes, Jungkook and Felix walked toward the parking area. Jungkook was explaining why Felix desperately needed to learn about motorcycles when he suddenly stopped.
A student crouched beside a motorcycle several spaces away, repeatedly trying to start it.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Stop doing that. If you keep forcing it, you're going to make the problem worse.
The student looked up, startled
Jungkook handed his bag to Felix and crouched beside the motorcycle. His playful expression disappeared as he examined the machine with careful attention.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
There goes our evening. He found an injured motorcycle and has forgotten humans exist.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Unlike humans, motorcycles don't interrupt people who are trying to help them.
Felix rolled his eyes while Jungkook checked the obvious possibilities, asked the owner several questions, and quickly identified a loose battery connection.
A few minutes later, the engine started. The relieved student thanked him repeatedly before leaving.
Jungkook stood and accepted his bag from Felix with a satisfied smile.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
You look happier fixing a stranger's motorcycle than receiving the highest marks in class.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Motorcycles appreciate me. Professors only ask why my assignments arrive two minutes before deadlines.
They reached Jungkook's bike, and he carefully placed his bag inside the storage compartment before checking his phone.
A message from his father waited on the screen.
Jeon Seojoon/A/Kook's Father
💬**Will you be home early tomorrow?**
Jungkook quickly replied.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
💬**Yes. Why?**
The response came moments later.
Jeon Seojoon/A/Kook's Father
💬**Nothing important. Just asking.**
Jungkook slipped his phone back into his pocket without thinking about the message again.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
Tomorrow, I'm definitely going straight home. My mother promised to save strawberry pastries for me.
Lee Felix/O/Kook's BFF
Your entire life can be controlled with food.
Jeon Jungkook/Á
My future Omega will be grateful that I'm so easy to make happy.
Felix shook his head as Jungkook put on his helmet.
At nineteen, Jungkook believed he understood exactly what his future would look like.
A successful career. A beautiful Omega. A family he could protect. A life where he would stand proudly as the Alpha beside his mate.
The possibility that fate had prepared something entirely different had never seriously entered his mind.
And if someone had told him otherwise that afternoon, Jungkook would have argued until they gave up.
After all, fate did not make mistakes. At least, that was what he believed.
