A few students gather around in a hallway at the Green River High School and watch as the school bully, Jasper, pushes a kid against a locker
Jasper Adams
You should watch where you are walking
Kevin Green
I-I apologized
Kevin Green
I-I was in a hurry
Kevin’s books had fallen in the ground and that’s where is eyes stay, to nervous to look up at Jasper
The students standing nearby watching want to step in but are to scared to do so
But then someone down the hall hears the ruckus and walks over, maneuvering through the students to see what’s going on.
Julian Rowe
I should have known it was you
Jasper turns to see Julian, letting go of Kevin. He grins and steps closer to him
Jasper Adams
Hi froggy, see you still have to come and intervene in everything I do
Julian Rowe
If you’d stop causing trouble then I wouldn’t have to
Jasper Adams
Come on admit it, you just like messing with me
Julian Rowe
If I could ignore you and not speak to you for the rest of my life then I would

Now get to class before I right you up
Jasper rolls his eyes before walking past Julian, slamming his shoulder against his while he does so
Julian sighs and moves towards Kevin, helping him pick up the books

Julian Rowe
Just Julian is fine

Now you all should get to class
Julian Rowe
If you’re hurt Kevin then I should take you to the nurse
Kevin Green
No I’m fine, you stepped in before he could seriously do anything
Julian Rowe
Then we should all head to class
Julian Rowe
The bell is about to ring
They all head to their classes and as Julian enters his, he walks up to the teacher’s desk
Orion Ervin
Oh Julian, there you are
Orion Ervin
Here’s your attendance sheet, go ahead and start
Julian takes the clipboard with the piece of paper clipped to it and starts checking off the people that are there
As he gets down to Jasper’s name, he looks around just to find his seat empty. Julian sighs with a slight eye roll, marking him absent
After finishing the attendance, he sets the clipboard back on the teacher’s desk before heading to his seat, second from the back, all the way to the right near the window
He takes out his textbooks and notebook, focusing on the lecture when the classroom door swings open, hitting the wall behind it. He looks up, along with the rest of the class, and watches as Jasper strides in
Orion Ervin
You’re late Mr. Adams
Jasper Adams
Sorry sir, I was at the nurses office
Jasper holds up a hand that has bandages on the fingers but Julian remembers seeing them there when they spoke earlier so he is clearly lying
Orion Ervin
Oh I see. Did you get a note
Jasper Adams
Nope. She said to just tell you
Orion Ervin
Alright, then go take your seat so we can continue with the lesson
Jasper makes his way to his seat, the one directly in front of Julian’s. He takes his completely black backpack off, hanging it on the back of his chair, before plopping down into it
He turns slightly, tilting his head back to look at Julian
Julian doesn’t answer, instead just continues writing in his book

I need a pencil

You don’t want me to fail right?

I need something to take notes with
Julian sighs and opens his bag and Jasper extends his hand with a grin

At lunch, Julian sits in the cafeteria at his normal table with his friend Rex
Rex Micheal
Why do you let him get under your skin so much?
Julian Rowe
He doesn’t, I just find him annoying because he’s always causing problems for me
Julian Rowe
And the school
Julian Rowe
I’m the class president so I’m always stuck cleaning up after him, staying back to make sure he finishes his work or his chores

Yeah I guess that can get annoying
Julian Rowe
And not to mention that he just flat out lies to the staff here

Well just try to ignore him the best you can
Julian and Rex eat their food but then a few tables down, a ruckus starts and Julian sighs, walking over to the area, knowing exactly who it is
Julian Rowe
Jasper let him go
Jasper looks back at Julian before letting go of Kevin
Jasper Adams
Fine, I got the money anyway
Jasper holds up the cash and waves it before leaving. Julian calls after him, telling him to return the money but he doesn’t listen

Are you ok Kevin?
Kevin Green
Yeah he just took my money for lunch so now I can’t get any
Julian reaches into his pocket and pulls out his wallet, opening and taking out a two tens
Kevin Green
I can’t take this
Julian Rowe
It’s fine, go get some lunch
Julian hands the cash to Kevin before heading in the direction that Jasper went
After searching a bit he finds him outside next to the back door, in the ground, leaning against the wall while eating
Julian Rowe
Stealing lunch money now Jasper?
Jasper looks up at Julian while stuffing his face full of food
Julian Rowe
Kinda cliche don’t you think?
Jasper just continues eating the food while staring up at him
Julian Rowe
Give Kevin the money back
Jasper Adams
Can’t, spent it
Julian Rowe
Then you better get the money somehow and pay him back
Jasper Adams
Just leave me alone frog

Just call me Julian, I’m getting tired of that nickname
Jasper Adams
I’ve told you before, you’re stuck with that nickname
Julian rolls his eyes before turning and grabbing the door handle

I’m serious, pay him back
Julian says before heading inside and back to his table

Yeah, just had to go talk with Jasper

He causing problems again?

Stealing lunch money

He had already bought lunch with it

So I told him to get the money somehow and pay it back

Well….maybe he needed lunch money

Then he could have got his own

I still don’t think he should be stealing others money

They both eat their food and put away their trays afterwards

Yeah, we should probably hurry there, I have to help get the art supplies out

As the last bell rings, the students gather their things and head out the door. Julian, who’s things were already packed, heads up to the desk
Orion Ervin
Here Julian, we have one student with detention.
Orion Ervin
Mind staying back to mark his hours and make sure he doesn’t misbehave
Julian already knows who it is but looks at the paper anyway, the name Jasper Adams written on it
Orion Ervin
You boys head to the library and come see me when his hour is up
Julian turns to Jasper who is still sitting in his seat, legs propped up on the desk and his body leaning back, tilting the chair
Jasper gets up and follows Julian out of the classroom and towards the library

So, cursing at a teacher for today huh
Jasper Adams
Hey in my defense, I didn’t really curse at her
Jasper Adams
I said fuck because I was irritated

Still shouldn’t be cussing in school

They walk across the school parking lot over to the school’s parking lot to the library
There’s usually a way to get there from the school but the doors are locked at this time
When they enter they head over to a desk and sit

Now just do your work and keep quiet

You could at least say please
Jasper opens his bag and throws some books onto the table

Keep it quiet, this is a library

Stop telling me what to do
Julian just sighs and takes out his own books, opening them up. Jasper watches as Julian starts writing away in his notebook

Studying for the upcoming test
