It is 7:10 on a Monday morning. The office is still mostly empty, the lights are only half on, and the ac is humming quietly in the background.Clara walks in carrying her handbag, a coffee and a small brown paper bag from her favourite backery on the 5th street.
Inside her bag there is one blueberry muffin which is still warm. Clara had been thinking about it since she woke up, which is honestly a little embarrassing, but mondays require small victories.

She stares at him. Adrian looks back with an expression that is just apologetic enough to be bilievable and just amused enough to make her want to throw her coffe at him.

Clara folds her arms .she has known Adrian for almost 2 years . He sits two desks away and somehow manages to make every ordinary workday feel like a minor argument she didn’t ask for.
He is loud when she wants quiet. he is relaxed when she is stressed . He borrows pens and forget to return them. And apparently , he has now added stealing her breakfast to the list .

Adrian looks at her for a second. His expression changes, just slightly.

For once, Clara doesn’t have a sarcastic answer ready
He gives her a small smile, then turns towards his desk. Before he can sit down, the office door opens again.

For a second, neither of them says anything
But something about the silence feels different from their usual arguments

The clock is behind me

I’m going to pretend o didn’t hear that
Adrian grabs his laptop bag and head towards the hallway . Just before he leaves , he turns back .

Clara watches him disappear around the corner

You know, for someone who hates him..

I didn’t even say anything

Maya smiles and opens her laptop
Clara sits down and tries to focus on her inbox. She makes it approximately twenty seconds before looking towards the hallway again
She doesn’t know why she is smiling
She definitely doesn’t want to know why the thought of Adrian coming back with another muffin makes her feel strangely warm.
And she absolutely refuses to consider the possibility that maybe the muffin isn’t the actual thing she is waiting for .
