MESSY
Chapter One: The Wedding Night
The hanbok felt like a costume Tae had put on for someone else's life.
He sat on the edge of the bed in the room his mother had decorated — red silk, wedding ducks carved from wood, a low table still holding the remains of the pyebaek ceremony — and listened to the sound of Minsoo's footsteps crossing the floor behind him. He didn't turn around.
Taehyung (Alpha)
"You can sit," he said. "You don't have to stand there."
Minsoo (Omega)
"I'm fine standing."
Tae finally looked at her. Kim Minsoo — no, Jeon Minsoo, still, in every way that mattered except the paper they'd signed that morning — stood by the window with her hands folded in front of her like she was waiting to be excused from a meeting. She was beautiful, in the composed, careful way of someone who had learned to make herself smaller than she was. He felt like a stranger looking at a photograph of a stranger.
Taehyung (Alpha)
"I have to say something," he said, "and I need you to not hate me for it."
Something flickered across her face. Not surprise. Bracing.
Taehyung (Alpha)
"I wasn't ready for this," Tae said. "Any of it. My mother — she and your parents arranged this before either of us had a say, and I let it happen because Haneul needs a mother and because I didn't have the energy to fight her. But I can't — " He stopped, ran a hand through his hair. "I need time. I can't be a husband to you tonight. Maybe not for a long time. I'm sorry."
He braced for tears, for anger, for the particular kind of hurt he knew he deserved to cause. Instead, Minsoo let out a breath that sounded almost like relief, and sat down across from him on the floor, folding her legs beneath her.
Minsoo (Omega)
"Thank you," she said quietly. "I didn't know how to say the same thing without sounding ungrateful."
Taehyung (Alpha)
Tae blinked. "What?"
Minsoo (Omega)
"My parents died eight months ago." She said it plainly, the way you say something you've had to repeat so many times it's worn smooth. "Car accident. I have a younger brothers — Jungkook and Yeonjun — and no one else. Your mother came to my aunt with the marriage offer, and my aunt made it very clear that if I refused, she wasn't going to keep housing three of us. So I said yes. Not because I wanted a husband." She looked up at him. "I needed somewhere for my family to land."
For a long moment neither of them said anything. Somewhere down the hall, Tae could hear Haneul's small voice arguing with the babysitter about bedtime, oblivious to the strange, quiet collapse of expectation happening in this room.
Taehyung (Alpha)
"So we're both here because we didn't know how to say no," Tae said finally.
Minsoo (Omega)
"It looks that way."
Taehyung (Alpha)
"Okay." He nodded slowly, something in his chest loosening for the first time all day. "Then let's not pretend. We'll live here. Share a house. Be — " he searched for the word " — a family, I guess, just not that kind. You'll have a home. Haneul will have someone who's kind to him. And I won't touch you, and you won't have to pretend you want me to."
Minsoo (Omega)
"I can live with that."
Taehyung (Alpha)
"Then we have a deal, roommate."
Minsoo (Omega)
"Roommate,"
She agreed, and something like the beginning of an actual friendship settled into the space where a marriage was supposed to be.
Three months passed easily enough. Minsoo turned out to be good with Haneul in a way that surprised them both — patient with his five-year-old logic, gentle when he cried, endlessly willing to sit on the floor building block towers that he insisted on knocking down himself. Tae came home some evenings to find the two of them asleep on the couch, a half-finished puzzle between them, and felt something unclench in him that had been tight since Haneul's mother left.
It was almost peaceful. Almost enough.
Then, on a rainy Tuesday, Minsoo came home from what she'd said was a routine visit to her aunt's, and stood in the doorway with two suitcases and two teenagers behind her, all three of them soaked through.
Minsoo (Omega)
"I know we didn't discuss this,"
She said, before Tae could say anything at all.
Minsoo (Omega)
But my aunt is remarrying, and her new husband doesn't want... There's nowhere else. This is Jungkook. And this is Yeonjun. It's only until I figure something out, I promise.
Tae looked past her at the two figures dripping onto his front step.
The younger one — Yeonjun, nineteen, all sharp elbows and wary eyes — was already half-turned away, like he expected to be told to leave. But it was the older sibling who made Tae's breath catch, just slightly, in a way he didn't examine yet.
Jungkook was twenty-two, and even soaked and exhausted and clearly bracing for rejection, there was something almost startling about him — a beauty that didn't ask permission to be noticed. Dark hair plastered to a face with soft, striking features; a mouth that curved downward in wary suspicion but looked like it was built for something gentler. He was watching Tae the way you watch a door that might close on you, and even in that guardedness there was a kind of quiet, magnetic self-possession that Tae wasn't prepared for.
Jungkook (Omega)
"Noona," Koo said to Minsoo, voice low, "if this is a problem, we can go back."
Taehyung (Alpha)
"It's not a problem," Tae heard himself say, before Minsoo could answer. "Come in. You're soaked. We'll figure out rooms tonight."
Koo's eyes flicked to him — surprised, assessing — and Tae made himself look away first, unsettled by how badly he didn't want to.
Taehyung (Alpha)
(It's fine), he told himself, stepping back to let them in out of the rain. (He's family now. That's all.)
Okay... So this is the first chap of MESSY ... I hope you like ittttt....❤️
Chapter Two: What the Aunt Hid
Mrs. Kim arrived the following Sunday with two bags of groceries she absolutely did not need to buy and a look on her face that told Tae she had already decided how she felt about everything before she walked through the door.
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"Where is she," Mrs. Kim said, not really a question, already toeing off her shoes. "Where's my Minsoo-ya, and where's my grandson—"
Haneul came barreling around the corner at the sound of her voice and nearly knocked her over.
Haneul (Alpha)
"Halmeoni!"
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"Aigo, look at you."
She scooped him up like he weighed nothing, pressing a kiss to his hair, and over his shoulder her eyes landed on the two new faces standing awkwardly by the kitchen doorway. Her whole face changed.
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"And these must be Minsoo's siblings."
She set Haneul down and crossed the room with the particular unstoppable warmth of a mother who had decided you were hers now too. She took Yeonjun's face in her hands first...
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
So tall, so serious, just like a young man should be"
and Yeonjun went pink and mumbled something polite. Then she turned to Jungkook.
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"Oh," Mrs. Kim said, quieter. "Oh, my."
Minsoo said, a warning thread in her voice that Tae had never heard from her before.
Mrs. Kim didn't seem to hear it. She was looking at Koo the way people look at something they weren't warned about.
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"You're so beautiful," she said, and it wasn't flattery, it was closer to bewilderment. "Where were you? When I went to your aunt's to see Minsoo, before the wedding — she never once mentioned—"
Minsoo (Omega)
"Eomeoni." Minsoo again, sharper.
Mr. Kim, following behind with the last of the groceries, cleared his throat gently, but Mrs. Kim was still turning it over out loud, half to herself.
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"I met your aunt three times. Three times, and she never let you come down to say hello, not once—"
Jungkook (Omega)
"Can I help you with the bags?"
Koo said, too brightly, already reaching for one, and the moment broke because he willed it to.
Later, once the groceries were put away and Mr. Kim had settled onto the floor to lose spectacularly to Haneul at some card game with rules only Haneul understood, Minsoo found Tae alone in the kitchen and leaned against the counter beside him, arms crossed, eyes tired in a way he hadn't seen since the wedding.
Minsoo (Omega)
"I should explain that," she said
Taehyung (Alpha)
"You don't have to."
Minsoo (Omega)
"I want to." She exhaled. "When people came to see me — for marriage, before your mother — my aunt never let Koo come out of his room. Not once. She'd send Yeonjun to say hello, sometimes, but Koo stayed upstairs." A short, humorless laugh. "I used to think she was protecting him from being stared at. It took me a long time to understand she was protecting the matches. If any of those families had seen him, they wouldn't have wanted me anymore. They'd have asked for him instead."
Taehyung (Alpha)
"That's..."
Tae didn't have a polite end to that sentence.
Minsoo (Omega)
"He was seventeen when it started," Minsoo said. "Too young for any of it to matter, but people don't always let that stop them from asking. So she hid him. And I let her, because I didn't know what else there was to do."
She glanced toward the living room, where Koo was now crouched next to Haneul, patiently rebuilding a tower of cards the boy had gleefully destroyed. Her face softened in a way that had nothing to do with the conversation they were having.
Minsoo (Omega)
"He's never once complained about any of it. Not to me."
Tae didn't say anything. He was watching the same scene she was — Koo's hands careful and quick, the small private smile he gave Haneul when the boy laughed — and he understood, with an unease he didn't examine too closely, exactly what those families would have wanted.
Dinner that night was loud in a way the house hadn't been in months — Mr. Kim telling an exaggerated story about Tae as a boy, Haneul demanding a second helping of rice with the outraged confidence only a five-year-old could summon, Minsoo laughing for real, spooning banchan onto Haneul's plate before he even asked, tucking his napkin into his collar with the easy competence of someone who had been doing this far longer than a few months.
Taehyung (Alpha)
"You're good at that," Tae said quietly, once Haneul had been wrangled off to wash his hands.
Taehyung (Alpha)
"This. Him." He nodded at the empty seat. "He asks for you before he asks for me some mornings. I don't think he even notices he's doing it."
Something crossed Minsoo's face — surprise, and under it, a kind of quiet gratitude that made Tae feel, briefly, like less of a stranger in his own life. "
Minsoo (Omega)
"I didn't expect to love him this much," she admitted. "I thought I'd just be... someone who lived here. But he's easy to love."
It was Mr. Kim who brought up the hostel, once Haneul had been put to bed and the adults had settled around the table with tea Mrs. Kim insisted on making himself, badly.
Mr. Kim (Alpha)
"I was thinking for Yeonjun... there's a good hostel not far from his university. Clean, well-run, the kind of place an alpha his age should be. Boys need that independence."
he said it warmly, already reaching over to pat Yeonjun's hand like the matter was half-settled.
Yeonjun (Alpha)
Yeonjun, to his credit, looked more relieved than offended. "I wouldn't mind that, actually."
But Minsoo's spoon stopped halfway to her cup.
Minsoo (Omega)
"And Jungkook stays here."
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"Well , of course. He's an omega. A hostel isn't... that's not a safe environment for him, you understand. Here, with family, he's looked after."
Jungkook (Omega)
"I can look after myself,"
Mr. Kim (Alpha)
"Of course you can, dear,"
Mrs. Kim smiled, in the tone of someone agreeing to end a conversation rather than actually agreeing.
Mrs. Kim (Omega)
"But you'll stay here regardless."
Minsoo (Omega)
Minsoo set her cup down carefully. "He stays here,"
She repeated, quieter, and there was something fierce underneath it that hadn't been there a moment before — the particular protectiveness of an older sister who had spent five years making sure no one got to decide her brother's life for him without her in the room.
Minsoo (Omega)
"That's not a discussion."
Across the table, Jungkook didn't argue. He just glanced up.. first at his sister, something grateful and a little embarrassed passing between them and then, for half a second longer than it should have taken, at Taehyung.
Tae looked back down at his tea.
He was starting to understand that "he stays here" was going to be a much bigger complication than anyone at that table currently realized.
