The Glossed Over Spy

The Mysterious Murder In The Alley (CASE #001)

I still remember the day I was given this book by my dad. The classic and the most inspiring book about the most amazing person I ever think of. SHERLOCK!

That was the day I said to myself, I am going to be the detective just like him and I had been preparing myself ever since that day waiting for this day to come. That day it was the 11th day of February 2019 and also the day when I got my first case ever.

I knew deep inside that the time had arrived to kick the bottleneck of my monotonous life and step into the adventures. This was going to be my first adventure ever. Reading Sherlock was a very good experience and I was already thinking that deducing a crime was the most fun and easiest thing for me but who knew it was neither fun nor easy but dangerous and mind boggling. This was the case I shall remember my entire life and till my last breath. Not only because this was my first case but also because it was a strange one too, this was the case about mysterious murder in the alley.

Detective's work is never easy and the main reason for that is we don't always have a job in real life. Mysterious murders don't happen everyday, isn't it? Still, suddenly it started happening and it was really brutal but interesting how the murders were committed. It all happened like this.

On a windy night, a man in a black coat and a hat, formally dressed was walking in an alley 76, smoking. When he was just around in the middle of opening he stumbled upon something like a ball. He didn't know what it was so he used the flashlight to check it out. Just when his eyes fell on the black ball across the fog he froze and this strongly calm person ran in the opposite direction screaming. ITS MURDER, SOMEONE HAS BEEN MURDERED HERE. The next thing I knew I had already reached the crime scene. My father is a cop and he has always known what I want to be so he let me accompany him to his work sometimes. So, of course it was not my first time seeing a dead body but that's the catch, it wasn't body at all. It was just a head and a pool of blood. I went there to inspect but was stopped by the cops.

"This is no place for a high school teen for social fame, go away, the barricades are there for some reason."

Just then my father nodded at him as he let me go.

"Father as the main inspector of some cases has its own benefits"

I smiled at the cop and calmly moved towards the head. After a few seconds I stood up and moved towards the pool of blood. It's not possible for so much blood to flow out of just the head, though the blood had almost dried and there were no signs of dragging. I was looking at the surrounding area just then I saw a camera of the house facing this way l moved inside the residence and rang the bell.

A tall man with slender fingers but a good bossy shape opened the door. I looked him head to toe once and asked, may I come in? He asked as he obviously knew about the head beside his home. I said I am Dakota Javier, a detective. Just as he heard my last word he froze.

"Oh! Come in, come in", he stammered and laughed awkwardly but soon gained his composure. I stepped in and asked him "surgeon?". He was a bit shocked and replied," I am a surgeon but how do I know you?".

"The way you calm yourself is admirable and I could think of only three professions, a surgeon, a lawyer and a professional fighter. Though your body is in good shape it is not fit to be a fighter and your house has a little smell of books, it means that you have too many of them. So, I rounded up to a doctor and a lawyer. Then I looked at ur hands they are way calm and ur finger there is a mark of handling with blades and thread the kind of like a surgeon has so I asked u about that", I said.

He was looking at me as if I had already known him for many days. Then he took me to the hall and asked how he could be of my help. Just then the doorbell rang. He apologized and went to open the door. After he left I started observing the home, everything was in order except for a round dent on the wall near the door of another room, one more dent on the floor, a burnt mark on the table, and the melted table cloth. I was waiting for him when a few cops came with the surgeon. They asked Mr. Geoffrey if they can search the house and had a warrant of that. They began searching through his house for anything suspicious. After a few hours, they were done and left the house. I asked Mr. Geoffrey if I can check the footage for a bit. I watched it for sometime but it showed nothing. Just a few people and vehicles passed by then a coated man came and stumbled. He switched on the flashlight and screamed and ran away

"I want a copy of this tape", i asked. He agreed. Then after talking to him for a while I left. I went to my home and played the tape two more times and went to sleep. There was something fishy about the tape and I knew what it was. The other day the same thing happened. Yet another murder on a different alley. Near the house of a surgeon. In almost the same case, only the head was found in a place where a came facing faced from the surgeon's house.

I took the footage from there too and after I came home I rounded all the houses of surgeons city. I guessed what was happening but did not share it with anyone as I had not yet concluded. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence and thrice is a pattern after all. The other day the head was found again but this time it was found near the house of a professor. We knew without a doubt that we were dealing with a serial killer and I wanted to find out if there was anything common in those three cases.

It was the 1st case I got and I wasn't able to crack anything out of it. I couldn't find any relations between the professors and the bodies. Although all the tapes had something in common, it was a worthless clue until now and I knew that I was stuck even before starting.

Then one day the medical reports of the victims came. They all had negative blood groups, the rarest of them all 'AB negative.

The DNA reports (CASE #001)

One day in the lightly lit early morning as the birds chirp welcomed the rising sun still not visible through the horizon with equal passion as the mornings before, I was reliving the cool gentle breeze from the open window and swaying curtains while sitting on the mat, meditating. My concentration broke with the tired knocking on my door.

My father Desmond Javier seemed to have passed another sleepless night as his eyes were screaming off his dilemma. As a cop, who was positioned as the one in charge of the investigation of the serial killings and his team was being questioned by their lazy superiors and the media as annoying as a fly. He excruciatingly shared how his investigation has hit rock bottom.

"A peaceful morning it is, isn't it?", my father exclaimed.

" I know that is not the reason why you visited me this early father. Was there any recent breakthrough?", I asked.

My father smiled wryly as he knew that his son didn't ask that question without noticing his tired expression but because he understood his father pretty well.

"You remember that blood pool and the heads of the victim?", my father asked.

" Of course I do, those were sent for post-mortem, right?", I replied.

"The reports came.", my father said as he continued.

" The DNA reports from the blood pool showed that it had two different blood samples, belonging to two different people"

"One set of the DNA belonged to the victim and the other set of DNA belonged to some unknown man but with the same blood group as that of the victim", my father sighed as he said.

"Do you mean two different people with O negative as their blood group?", I asked.

"Indeed, that seems to be the case"

"So there are three people in the reports or four?"

"Well, one of the blood samples was that of the victims which makes it two, and then the other one was found to be common in both different samples, so that makes it three different humans in the tally"

"And when the DNA report from the third blood sample came, it had that common DNA along with that of the victim too", my father sighed again as he looked up at the ceiling fan and sighed deeply.

"Amusing indeed", I said as I scratched my head in confusion and stretched my body as I raised my hands above my head and arched my back with a deep breath.

"That hits the spot", I whispered to myself with a satisfactory smile.

" So, did anyone check the criminal records of that unknown DNA or try to match it with that of those surgeons and the professor?", I asked.

"Yeah, already done with it."

"It's not like your dad is an amateur and on the contrary, even an amateur would think of that at least"

"So any clues?", I asked.

" Nope, not at all"

"Neither it was a match with those DNA samples from the house owners, nor it did match with any of the past criminal histories from the database", he said.

"So are you saying that there has been an introduction of another piece with unknown origins as a part of this puzzling case as a whole?

"Indeed that seems to be the case", my father sighed.

"Although we have been probably introduced with a clue and we are looking forward to some revelations", my father added.

" It seems that your team has traced some kind of relationship between the house owners i.e. the two surgeons and that professor, right?", I asked.

"Yes, it seems so", my father said.

It's not like we always talk formally like we did this time, but when it's something related to his case or a subject of my interest, we seem to mutually prefer this way of sharing our ideas.

After that, my father told me about his recent breakthroughs in his investigations. I was solely dependent on what cops could find and could only provide my father with a few suggestions as there is only so much a college student can do by himself. Since I cannot get any kind of warrant for my investigations, right?

Till now, I had got my hands on a video clip from the first incident which I got my hands on while I pretended to be a detective. Although, I had already made a copy of the relevant part from that clip the very same day as I already knew that a liar's luck shall not be of any help in the long run. The cops had confiscated that tape the other day as I got a legal warning and my father could not say anything in my backing as even he could not deny that I was in the wrong.

But of course, that did not mean I could not get my hands on new evidence and breakthroughs. As my father supported his son's whims and shared some of them as long as they were not considered confidential.

Well, I had to put up with it for a few more months. After I graduate, I can finally become a trainee consultant under the shadow of an actual detective who happens to be a friend of my father whom he met on one of his homicide investigations. Although, he is on his mission for a while now in another country. He has agreed to take me as a trainee under him and thus I have already been practicing writing my application which I am supposed to submit to him after I graduate to become a trainee consultant officially.

Being an official consultant has its perks even if it means being just a trainee as I can get access to the crime scene under a superior and can collect evidence myself or from the database on my own accord otherwise supposedly confidential.

I opened my drawer and looked at an envelope inside it with a smile reeking with excitement and closed it again while I closed my eyes and sighed with a mild shrug.
