When I Reincarnated Into A Vengeful Deity
Episode 1
One could only be obedient for so long.
But once they have opened their eyes and be slapped with the harsh reality of this world...
You cannot expect them to stay idle and do nothing.
Believe me when I tell you that I have done my absolute best to be the perfect daughter, sister, student and person, but all the efforts I have exerted have been casted aside.
But no more will that continue to happen. I have not returned to stay by your side as a beautiful, caged bird. I am a phoenix reborn, preparing to destroy those who have wronged me in the “past.”
And this is my story. But first, let us return to the beginning. A story cannot begin without one.
| TWO YEARS AGO, LOVEWOOD VENUE |
Everain
This is unacceptable! How come she is the sole inheritor? She is a bastard, that is what she is! I am the true heir of the Asteria household. That wench must have blackmailed grandfather. Why else would he have chosen her out of all people?
Stepmother
What my daughter says is true. Everain deserves to inherit everything father-in-law has left. Leaving his assets to a child out of wedlock is incredibly humiliating. What will people think of our family then?
Aunt Nearen
Slow down, sweetie pies. You’re giving me a headache. Ugh, I really need a few shots to deal with this. First of all, why are YOU even complaining? The old man’s left me absolutely nothing. Nothing at all! I’m his daughter for God’s sake. What will I do with a hundred million gemstones*?
Gemstones is the currency of the fictitious nation [Ellenoir] this story is set in.
Everain
A hundred million gemstones? Pfft. Maybe you are also a child born out of wedlock.
Aunt Nearen
How dare you, you little-
The voice of my father boomed causing everyone else present to freeze in terror and in fear.
Father
I do not know how this happened either. There must be a mistake... I shall have a word with my lawyer about this matter. I’ve spoken to father a while back, and he promised - he PROMISED that MY name will be in his will. But no, nothing at all. And instead-
He faced me, not a single flicker of warmth or familiarity present in his face.
Father
He puts HER in the will that was rightfully mine since birth. He told me that he will give me everything if I chose to take her in as my daughter, and I have!
Stepmother
You must remain calm. I understand you. I am as furious as you are, but we will talk about this later. For now we have a ball to attend.
One by one everyone exited the room until only I and my half sister remained.
Everain
Tell me, what have you done?
Everith
I swear, I am as clueless as you are in this situation. I have no idea why grandfather had chosen me. He has never spoken to me. It must definitely be a mistake.
Everain
Of course it is. Because if it isn’t-
Everain took a threatening step towards me.
Everain
You will be met with my wrath. And I am telling you, you do not want to see this terrible side of mine.
With one last scornful gaze, she too, left the room.
I collapsed on the floor immediately after.
Everith
Oh, why? Why is this my life? Why does my family hate me with such burning passion? I have done everything they have ever asked yet it seems it only further fuels their hatred.
Everith
If there is a god out there... an all powerful being, please grant me this wish. I wish to be able to start over.
The Maid
My lady, your presence is immediately required in the ball.
Everith
I see. I will be heading there soon.
I gathered myself and headed to the direction of the ballroom.
As I walked to my destination, I noticed a mysterious figure leaning against the wall opposite of the entrance of the ballroom. I couldn’t quite see their face since it was covered by a cloak which was strange considering that a ball is being held and it usually requires formal attire.
As I passed down the person, I felt a chill run down my spine. I shook it off. It was nothing. There is nothing to worry about.
Everith
And... I have arrived.
I only took one step into the ballroom, and the room immediately ceased. All eyes were on me. I held my head up, and walked in.
Lorraine Nabeth
Little Ever, isn’t that your sister? Bring her here. Introduce her to us.
Everain
Absolutely not! Why would I do that? She will only ruin my reputation if anyone sees me next to her.
Lorraine Nabeth
How rude of you. If you won’t do it then I will. Actually, Dane, will you be a dear and ask Older Ever over there to come to us?
Dane Terra
As you wish, Lorraine.
I stood awkwardly in the ballroom, not knowing what to do until a lean woman I recognise as a friend of my sister approached me.
Dane Terra
Greetings, Everith Asteria. Lorraine Nabeth of Castleside would like to meet you. Please follow me.
This is Dane Terra. She is the daughter of a well known botanical establishment. The Lorraine Nabeth she mentioned is from a family that descended from royalty in a nation by the sea.
Everith
Well, I wouldn’t want to impose...
Dane Terra
You aren’t. Lorraine has formally asked for you. It is best to not keep her waiting.
Everith
Of course, I apologise.
I silently followed behind Dane Terra as she lead me to Lorraine Nabeth and an irritated sister of mine.
Everain
Dane, why have you brought her to us? You are humiliating me!
Dane Terra
Lorraine has asked me to do so. I simply followed her request.
Lorraine Nabeth
Now, now. Stop arguing, you two, especially you, Little Ever. You are beginning to get on my nerves with your babbling. I have no use of you if all you do is complain about your life.
Everain
How dare you? Do you know who I am? I am Everain Asteria! My great-great-grandfather was one of the founding fathers of our nation. My great grandfather, on the other hand had singlehandedly beaten an army of-
Lorraine Nabeth
Shush, you bore. I did not ask for a history lesson about your family. Mine is far more spectacular. And why do you only name the accomplishments of your ancestors? How about you, dear? What have YOU done?
Everain
I... whatever, Lorraine! You will regret this, I’m telling you. You have a chance to apologise to me this instant or else I will ruin you.
Lorraine Nabeth
You? Ruin me? Little Ever, you are going to make me cackle.
Everain
I’ve warned you. Watch out, Lorraine.
And with that, Everain stomped away.
Lorraine Nabeth
Your sister is such a spoiled brat. Don’t you agree, Older Ever?
Everith
She... she’s just misunderstood, that’s all.
Lorraine Nabeth
Riiiight. Anywho, I have heard so much about you? You scored a perfect in the latest Test of Elements* haven’t you? Impressive.
The Test of Elements is a yearly examination required by every student to partake in to examine what role they are best suited for society. Those with higher scores are usually fit for a career in politics and so. Meanwhile, for lower scores it is the opposite.
Everith
I worked hard. That is all I can say.
Lorraine Nabeth
Huh. Would you like a drink? Yeah, you’d like one. Hello, will someone please serve us a glass of bubbly?
Everith
Actually, I’ve never had an alcoholic beverages.
Lorraine Nabeth
Then this will be your first. Dane, why are you so silent? Say something!
Lorraine Nabeth
Seriously? Anyway, why is the champagne taking so long? This service is terrible.
? ? ?
I apologise, ma’am. Rush hour.
I immediately recognised this person. I tried to take a better look, but their head face downwards. The person held a platter of filled champagne glasses in one hand and individually handed it to us.
Lorraine Nabeth
Hmm, how odd.
I stared at the sparkling glass in my hand. For some reason, it made me feel uneasy.
Lorraine Nabeth
Hey, what are you waiting for? Drink up!
I stared at the golden liquid.
Everith
It wouldn’t hurt me, would it?
Everith
Well, you only live once.
I lifted the glass to my lips, and gulped down the bitter liquid.
Everith
That wasn’t too bad.
Lorraine Nabeth
See? Have some more then!
Suddenly, my head felt... empty. I felt empty. No, not empty. Lost. My mouth felt oddly wet...? I reached up, and my fingers were touched by a foamy substance. Before I knew it, I was gurgling on the floor.
Lorraine Nabeth
Oh my god. What is happening? Someone, help her! Do something! Is she... is she dying?
Dane Terra
Breathe in, breathe out, Lorraine.
I impatiently gasped for air. I felt my consciousness slowly fading.
Everith
No... no... not like this...
I too had dreams I wished to accomplish.
Dreams I never will have a chance to turn into reality.
Because my life was forcibly taken away from me.
Fortunately for me, it was THIS life.
I was given another chance at life. And in this life, poison will not be able to bring me down.
I am a deity. And I have returned to this harsh world to take back what was mine - my life.
And no longer will I be meek. No longer am I a fragile girl. Call me a monster if you will. I do not care for I have not come here to play nice.
[AUTHOR’S NOTE: HELLO EVERYONE! This is my first ever chat story. So grateful that you made it this far. This episode is an introductory chapter, to show you how FL’s previous life has ended. Yes, she is quite distant, but that will not be the case in the future! And I am aware that this may be a little bit different from the usual chat stories here, I think? But I do hope you will still give me a chance. If you enjoyed this, please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing! Word count: 1588. Speaking of word count, I plan to shorten future episodes if I can. The minimum will be at least maybe... 700? and maximum is 1500.
