“Today is finally the day of my awakening.”

Disaster struck the mankind in year 2020. Unusual things started to happen everywhere. It started with forest fires, earthquakes then tsunamis around the world. Even though destruction was immense but all of it was in the end, natural disaster, which humans could not do anything against. Everything started to calm down in few months but humans failed to understand that it was just the warning from nature for upcoming events which could turn into the curse that would lead humanity to its extinction or the blessing that would make humanity capable of making impossible things possible.

Soon dimensional rifts started to appear all around the world that leads numerous monsters from another world to invade earth with the only single intention in their mind, to destroy all the life that they could land their eyes on. Thousands of people lost their lives wherever these dimensional rift and these bloodthirsty monsters appeared. These monsters which included wolf like beasts, goblins, orcs and other types of monsters were the creatures that humanity had ever seen only in games and movies. World was in chaos for weeks before military forces could control this situation. Areas were sealed where dimensional rifts appeared. Most of the rifts soon closed after the disaster but there were still many rifts that stayed open even after monsters stopped coming out of them.

World soon started to regain its colors and peace but it was still not the end as big towers appeared all around the world in different countries. These giant towers were several kilometers in height which left humanity’s leaders (government leaders) in fear, did nothing but stand tall and still for weeks before countless people around the world received notification about their awakening. Those who received these notifications felt like they had entered the game as they could see their status which presented them with their physical abilities. They felt like heroes that saves the world from stories but this pleasant surprise didn’t last for long as everyone who received this notification disappeared without any trace.

Everyone was summoned someplace where it was filled with monsters and hidden dangers for the test of survival. Those who passed this test came out of towers that had appeared in their countries with skills and powers that normally humans could only fantasize about.

World entered state of chaos once again as many people with bad motives had received these powers too but it didn’t last long because many batches of people received their tests and powers soon. Humanity was lead to another stage of their prosperity with these powers where they could finally protect themselves against monsters whenever they appear on the earth.

Time passed by and soon government created their own department for awakened people so they could keep order in this new world but not all awakened were convinced to being the subordinate of someone with less strength so they formed their own guilds and create their own influence in the world. Humanity continued to develop in these troubled times for so many years before finally gaining peace to live normal life for normal people and power to dominate those rifts that did not disappear and turn them into dungeons to make use of magical resources to create new possibilities for awakened humans who were now known as adventurers.

Everything that went on for so many years had lead to this day…

“Today is finally the day of my awakening.”

“I should head to the association before the time of my awakening. I don’t want to go in there without any type of information.” Mo Fan gets up from his bed while thinking about the awakening test that is going to happen in few hours. Nearly 25% people die during this test so he was nervous.

‘I never thought I will be able to awaken my powers. Usually people get their awakening exams after they reach age of 14. Anyone can get awakened after reaching age 14 and mostly people awaken before reaching age of 18 so I was sure I won’t be able to become adventurer with powers as I am already 19 years old. Even if I get awakened, I won’t have strong powers.’

Mo Fan walks up to the kitchen but finds no one in the kitchen. He was used to see his little sister waiting for him at the dining table with breakfast everyday in the morning but today was not the same. Even though breakfast was prepared for him but his sister was not at home, she had just left a note for him that she would not be at home till afternoon.

“We are not that close but we are still a family. Shouldn’t she at least wish me for today’s test? I could even die in it. I guess there’s no point thinking about it. I should enjoy… possibly… my last meal.” Mo Fan was not in mood for the breakfast but he didn’t want to die because of his silly mistake of not having enough energy to fight whatever he would face in the dungeon.

‘My father and her mother died last year in dimensional rift outbreak. Yes. My father… my biological father and her biological mother… they married each other few months before they both died in that horrible event. They left us two kids all alone in this world. I guess I am not a kid anymore but still, I also have emotions which I could not show to anyone else. Why?... because I have a little sister who I can not show my weakness to. We don’t have any familial bonds but I still wanted to get along with her but my worse personality made her act like a stranger to me during this past year. I was always used to spending money as I pleased; Afterall my dad was a B rank adventurer. Everything changed last year after that incident but my habits did not change which made my little sister become mentally mature when she was supposed to enjoy her life. I wanted to change but I kept saying I would change from tomorrow and now… we are already stranger living under same roof because I was not determined enough. She is 17 years old and will be 18 next month but she acts like she had been through all the things in this world… not in a good way. I promise I will change myself after I pass this test and become an adventurer. I want to see her happy… she had taken care of everything for this past year… maybe this will be my turn to take care of her and finally become someone who she could rely on so she could become the little girl that she should be right now.’

Thinking about the things his father used to teach him about dungeons and monsters Mo Fan arrived at the adventure’s association of old capital. Entire world was nearly destroyed when these phenomenons started on the earth and most of the cities were completely destroyed so most of the cities had already been renamed after rebuilding them to different names which sounded like some cities from old fantasy games from 2020.

“Excuse me; I am here for the awakening test. My name is Mo Fan.” Mo Fan enquires about the test at reception. After asking about various things Mo Fan arrived at waiting room which was reserved for people who would be participating in awakening test. And unsurprisingly, there were 3 more people in the waiting room. Everyone was waiting for the time they would be summoned by the tower for their awakening.

All three people in the room were well equipped. One of them even had covered themselves with hood to hide identity while Mo Fan was there standing with just his casual clothes which made him look like he was going for a walk in the park.

“I am Hong Xiao, D rank adventurer. I participated in awakening 6 months ago so I will be able to help you as much as I can for this test. Ask anything you want to ask about. Don’t be embarrassed about anything; this test is about life and death.” White- short haired girl walked in the waiting room while telling her name. She looked younger than Mo Fan in age but she was already a D rank adventurer which left Mo Fan in complete surprise. She had long knives on each side of her waist and short throwing knives wrapped on her thighs. She was wearing shorts so Mo Fan could easily count 5 knives were there on her each thigh. Except for the fact that she looked dangerous with those things, she was quite beautiful.

“Wait! You are already D rank in six months? How is that possible?” one of the people spoke at this moment. His question was valid and everyone one of them was curious about this but Hong Xiao was not so pleased by his question. It felt like he doubted her words to her.

“I am not here to talk about myself. If you want to know anything about awakening test then ask. If you don’t want to know anything then just shut your mouth.” Hong Xiao spoke in anger.

“Just a D rank adventurer trying to act cool. Our Zhao family has servants to clean toilets with that strength. Why would we want to know anything about test from you?” Another boy spoke who was standing with the one who spoke earlier.

“Brother Zhao is right. These types of trashes can’t compare to real masters from big families.” Boy from earlier spoke in ridiculing voice as he was also not that happy with Hong Xiao’s response.

“Talk about your family background after getting back alive. You two! Do you want to know anything about the test?” Hong Xiao was indifferent to their ridicule as she was probably not unknown to the arrogance of big families. She turned towards Mo Fan and hooded person next to Mo Fan. That person just shook his head in denial and stayed silent while before Mo Fan could even open his mouth, he was interrupted.

“Where are your equipments? At least take a weapon with you for protection. How are you supposed to defend against the monsters?” Hong Xiao spoke as she was in disbelief that someone appeared for this test without any kind of weapon. Even poor people would at least bring kitchen knife to protect themselves but Mo Fan was here without anything on his body except for his casual clothes.

“Hahahaha! Poor b@stard who can’t even afford a weapon!” boy standing next to the brother Zhao laughed at Mo Fan. This clearly annoyed both Mo Fan and Hong Xiao but both of them had no reply to this. Mo Fan really couldn’t afford any weapon while Hong Xiao could not say anything as Mo Fan was silent himself.

“Take these two knives. This will be a bit useful to you.” Hong Xiao spoke as she gave two of her throwing knives to Mo Fan in pity but those were throwing knives so they were not good for protection in close combat. Both boys kept laughing at Mo Fan and Hong Xiao, while hooded person just shook his head. Hong Xiao was holding her long knife on her waist while contemplating about something.

She had worked hard for past six months to buy these knives. She had been using those knives for just a week so she was not sure if she wanted to let someone borrow them while not knowing if that person could even come back alive. At this moment hooded person suddenly vanished into thin air, followed by two laughing boys. It was time for the awakeninng test.

“Take this knife with you. And come back alive.” Hong Xiao knew there was no more time left so she immediately removed long knife from her waist and threw at Mo Fan.

But before knife could even reach his hand, He vanished. He was already teleported inside the tower for his awakening.
