Ceo's Maid

Prologue

The fire kept blazing, engulfing the house like it was nothing. The smoke and smell of burnt concrete and wood surrounded the area, making it hard to breathe. The sirens of the emergency vehicles pierced the ears as they tried to calm the fire. Among all the noises and debris, the crying of a young girl was heard. Tears streamed down her face as she held a sacred puppy in her arms, close to her chest as if to protect it. The rescuers had knocked down the door to the room where the little was, her crying had stopped but she sat there, the saviors put out the fire and came to her, "Are you alright, miss?" She didn't respond, it was as if she couldn't hear. One of the man took the puppy from her and she reacted, "N-no...G-give...back-" She couldn't finish as she collapse to the dusted floor.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

The alarm went off, shook Avril out of her bed and onto her floor. She groans and laid there for a few seconds before her face started getting licked by a big fluffball. "King! S-stop!" She laughs as she tries to get away from the golden retriever, "I'm up...I'm up!" She repeated and the dog got off her and sat calmly next to the nightstand and watches her mistress gets up as well and walked to the bathroom, she stood in front of the mirror and stared at her reflection murmuring to herself, "Same nightmare again..." She gets herself freshen up for the day before she and King have breakfast. Once they were done, Avril dressed up into casual clothes and packed up some cookies she got out of the oven. She pets King's head and gave him a treat, "I'll be off now but I'll come early today as well, Guard the house well, my loyal knight!" She said and King barks as a 'yes' Avril giggled and stepped out of the house and locked it before leaving. Before she went further down the street, an old woman waved to her with a smile from her yard where she stood.

"Hello, Mrs. Millers." Avril said with a gentle and warm smile.

"Hello there, gorgeous lady." Mrs. Millers smiles as well as she compliments Avril.

She smiles sheepishly as her cheeks flushed with a light pink. Mrs. Millers giggles at her reaction and walks to her and hands her a Tupperware, "Please dear, give this to your grandma. It's her favorite, Grenadine and Papaya juice. I made it for her this morning, my...how much I miss that old woman. I can't wait for when she'll be back on her feet."

"Yes, me too..." Avril said in a low voice as her smile weakens. She took the juice from Millers' hand and put it in the bag she had packed the food for her grandmother. Before she looks up, she felt a warm hand on her head.

"Oh dear...Don't be sad, Lily wouldn't want to see you like this, she wouldn't like it that her grand-daughter is sad and worry because of her." Avril nodded and gave Millers a warm smile.

"You're right! hehe...Well then I shall take my leave. Goodbye, Mrs. Millers." Avril said while waving at her and starts walking to go meet her favorite person. Mrs. Millers waves back at her.

After half an hour of walking, Avril reached the hospital and greeted the receptionist before making her way to the room where her grandmother was. She knocked on her door and waited for a response but nothing. She tries again and called out to her, " Grandma...?"

"Avril? Come in, honey." Avril lets out a sign of relief and opened the door and entered, a smile on her face. "Hello, granny." Her grandmother smiles and opened her arms for her grand-daughter and she gladly hugged her guardian.

"How are you? Did something happened?" Avril asked her granny.

"If something happened!? The foods here are so infect! Horrible!" She said in a dramatic manner that made Avril giggles at her grandmother's attitude while the latter just smiles. Avril takes a seat on the chair next to the hospital bed and takes out the the cookies and juice she brought for her. " Well, you don't worry anymore. I brought you some fresh cookies and Mrs. Millers made you your favorite Grenadine and Papaya juice!" She hands it to her grandmother and she happily took it and started to eat. "Like we used to bake them, Delicious!" She smiles and continues to dig in. "Yes..." Avril smiles slightly, it hurts her to not be able to spent a lot of times with the dearest person to her.

"Oh, sweetie...don't be sad. Once I'm out of here and had shown those dumb doctors how strong I am. I'm gonna kick their butts for thinking I'm weak!" She said firmly and proudly.

Avril smiles and then once her granny had eaten, she puts the bowl back in her and kept smiling. But her smiles couldn't fool her grandmother, "What's wrong...?"

"Oh nothing, It's just that I found a job-"

"Oh my! that's a good news!" Lily cut her off as she was so proud that her angel could found a job after days of searching for one. Then she saw that Avril wasn't as excited as she should be. "Shouldn't that be a good news?"

"Yes but... I wouldn't be able to come visit you everyday." Her grandmother chuckles at her words and shook her head slowly, leaving Avril perplex.

"It's alright, honey. I'm fine with it and you also need to look after yourself instead of always worrying about me all the time."

"But grandma-"

"There's no buts." She smiles making Avril smiles genuinely as well.

"Okay, grams"

It was time for Avril to leave the hospital. As she walk out she waves at her grandmother and she waves back, yelling "I'm proud of you!"

Avril always gets out of the hospital with a smile on her face. She had always loved her grandmother since she was a young girl, after all, it was her that raised her into the woman she grew up to be.

'Thank you, grandma. You always make me happy. If only we could find one, you would had a higher chance of living more...oh grandma..'

Avril walks around the city until she stopped in front of a Cafe and decided to enter it as the scent of coffee filled her nostrils. Avril took her order and was going to head out when she bumped into someone and hot coffee fell on the person's suit.

"Oh shit!"

She looked up and when her eyes meet the guy's eyes, she felt daggers being thrown at her, feeling a shiver down her spine, She takes a step back.

"I'm really sorry, I didn't see you here! I didn't meant t-"

"Shut up!" Avril was cut off by him, "NO need to add more, you've done enough."

"Mr. I swear I didn't meant to do that, I didn't see you, I'm sorr-"

"You didn't see me? If you are blind you should not step out alone."

The man in suit rolls his eyes and sigh which pissed Avril off, "Watch your mouth. Not because I didn't say anything meant you could step out of your line. People like you always think you are higher than anyone else but you are nothing than an arrogant bastard." She rolls her eyes too and walks pass him but before she could walk away completely, She threw a handkerchief on his shoulder.

"You can use this to clean the big mess instead of trying to roast people around you."

Avril got out of the Cafe, clearly her mood and day was ruined and it made her mad. 'What a jerk'

She thought as she walks away leaving the man at the Cafe, mad and confused. To him, clearly the little girl didn't know with who she had messed with.

Chapter 1

'Drip! Drop! Drip! Drop!'

Avril thought as she looks outside her window, "It sure has rained yesterday evening, don't you think so too, King?" She turns to her dog and smiles as he responds with a bark. She gave him a quick pet, "It was unpredictable, there was no clouds at all." Avril gets up and stands in front of her full body mirror, "How do I look? Like a real business woman?" King wiggles his tail in agreement and bark again, "Thank you, you look good as well. Wish grandma could see me..."

Avril shakes her negative thought away and smiles, "I won't let anything ruin my day. I'm gonna make this day mine." She nods to herself and grabs her bag that contained important papers and runs out of the door, "Can't be late on my first day."

'Wow...that's big!' Avril thinks as she stands in front of a big building. She was amazed at how the Barexten Building is. The slides door opens so she can makes her way in to the receptionist.

"Hello, Miss. How can I help you?" The girl at the receptionist ask with a welcoming smile on her face, Avril smiled back, "Goodmorning, I'm here for an interview. My name is Avril Dwyer."

"Oh yes. I'm Melissa Brown, Nice to meet you, Avril. How are you?"

"I'm fine. Same to you, Melissa."

They smile at each other before Melissa started, "Before your interview,  would you mind filling those blanks for me?" Her smile was still on her face as she hands some papers to Avril which she took, "Thank you."

Melissa points towards a waiting area where there were some luxury sofa and table, "You can finish them there and come give it to me once you are done. Don't worry, they are easy peasy, not like those in school exams." She laughs slightly and Avril responded with her smile.

She takes a seat and started to write on the papers, they were simple questions indeed.

'Am I single or married? That's sure is a weird one. Well not as weird as the last job I tried to apply to but decided not to because they asked if I was a ****** or not. Man, that shit had ticked me off. How was that useful in job application?'

Avril thought remembering how she almost sue that company for asking such personal questions.

Once she was done, Avril went to Melissa and gave her the paper gently. "Thank you, Avril. You can go to corridor right here, take the elevator and press the button to the last floor."

She said and Avril nodded.

She gets into the elevator and touch the 21st floor button and went straight up. There was no one else except her in the elevator, so, it was quick. The doors opened and she was out. In front of her was only one door.

'I guess that my interview is with the main boss of this building, also know as the CEO. They say that he is a cold hearted monster. Jeez...I hope I don't flop this, I don't want to be like that woman who walked out earlier. She was furious and irritated.'

A few minutes before Avril walks up to the CEO office, a woman was rushing out of the building and yelling her frustration out.

"How can he say that I'm not qualified for this job? I'm gonna sue him. Arrogant man." She was saying while she walks away. Avril watches her and started to worry if she could get the job.

'Take a deep breathe in, and exhale' Avril calms herself down and breathes deeply but gently.

Avril takes a deep breathe in and knock three times on the door and waits for a reply but there were none. She tried again and was shocked at how aggressive the response was.

"Come in already!"

This shook Avril and made her more anxious than she was before. She grabs the handle and push the door gently and slowly walk in.

The room was big, on the walls there were shelves that were fixed and full of books and documents. Through the large window, the weather was getting cloudy again, probably another rainstorm for this night as well and in the centre of this luxurious office, was a large desk and behind it was a chair, the back of the chair was facing Avril. Avril gulped the lump in her throat.

"H-hello, sir?"

Avril said as she walks a step forward but stopped when the man raised his hand.

"Stay where you are." The CEO said in a cold voice which sent shivers down Avril's spine. However, the voice was somehow familiar, she have heard it before.

The man's chair turns in a clockwise direction and he was now facing Avril, his cold Hazel eyes staring right through her. Avril was shocked, her jaw dropped when she recognised the person who was in front of her and also  remembered where she had seen him first.

"Well, well...if we don't meet again.."

He smirked at her, his eyes were as if those of a tiger who had trapped his prey. Avril stood there as if she was frozen into a statue and looked at him.

She gulps.

'N-no...no no no. It can't be that!?'

Chapter 2

'N-no...no no no. It can't be that!?'

Avril's eyes were wide opened and jaw dropped as she was confounded, "You!?" He smirked before gaining his aspect, "Please refrain from shouting. I have sensitive ears."

"No no no, I must be having a nightmare! You can't be my boss!?" Avril shouted.

"I just told you to not raise your voice, Insolent woman. I'm afraid I am," He sighs and then thought, 'Well, well, I guess it's time for some revenge.' He stared at her, "Now don't waste my time. Hurry up and take a seat." Avril gulps and sit on one of the chairs that was across the desk  where the boss was.

"Impolite woman! Don't you know that you should ask before sitting?" He scolded her with coldness.

"B-but you said..." Avril stuttered as she tried to defend herself and then thought, 'This guy won't let me off the hook.' She sighed and asked him as polite as she could, trying to avoid being sarcastic, "May I take a seat?"

He smirked and took a file, "Avril Dwyer?" He asked and Avril nodded, he continued, "I'm Aiden Barexten, what made you think you are qualified enough to be here? Just because you've got degrees? Because you are graduate from college? Because you went to one of the best university?" He asked one question after the other, not letting Avril the chance to answer. Avril let him talked, not even trying to reply, he looked at him with fierce eyes while his smirked would not be disappear from this face, "The cat got your tongue?"

Avril shakes her head, determination flashed through her eyes and her lips part when she starts talking, "No, I was waiting for you to finish. Now that you are done, I shall answer your questions, Sir. First of all, I never thought that I was qualified enough, you are the one who made such assumption. Assuming something when you aren't aware of the truth is a big flaw, it could lead to a big defeat, but in a rare case, assumption can lead to good things and the chance of that happening is really low. Indeed, I'm graduated  but to your information, the college I went too was not the best, it was a small one." She looks at him, and he looked slightly surprise that she answered without stuttering like the previous one who came before her did. She continues,

"And I don't think all people need to be graduated to be able to make money, example, the janitor that works here isn't a graduated person-" she was interrupted by Aiden,

"And how do you know that? Are you judging him by his position?" He asked sternly.

Avril shakes her head denying and answered, "No, I saw how he was treated."

Aiden looked slightly confused, "What do you mean?"

Avril nods, "I was walking my way here when..." Avril started telling Aiden what had happened,

"Here do your job and clean our mess, low-life." One of the two women said to the janitor as he just looked down at the mess they made.

"Y-yes ma'am." He replied with a sad tone as he submitted to their evil behaviors, he started cleaning up their mess.

"I think you should learn to show respect towards people who make sure that your workplace is clean and safe." Avril said from behind them.  The women turned and looked her.

"Who might you be?" The same woman asked with a dominating voice as if she own the place.

"I'm Avril Dwyer, I came here for a job interview with Mr. Barexten." She firmly said not backing away as the woman took a step towards her. Avril's eyes looked back the woman with fierce looking eyes.

"With Mr. Barexten?" They both starts giggling like 6 year old bullies that are mocking their victim. Avril shrugs her shoulders at them, "Is there something wrong with that?" She asked as she raised an eyebrow.

The woman laughed and responded, "If there is something wrong?" She repeated the question in a deride way and the other woman said in a sneering tone, "It's better if you take a U-turn, honey." Seeing the confusedness on Avril's face, she continued, "Mr. Barexten is a strict, he only accept people's with high intelligence and who have a status, but looking at you," she giggles before resuming what she had  to say, "You look like you have neither of them."

The first woman takes on, "If you had the interview with Miss Sherry, maybe you could have had a chance, especially with your horrid looking being." They made fun of her and flipped their hair and walked away.  Avril stares at them and thought to herself, 'What was that all of a sudden?'

Avril shrugged her shoulders and looked at the janitor, "Let me give a hand." She said with a warm smile. The janitor smiled back at her and shook his head, "No, it's okay. I'll handle it but you should get going, Mr. Barexten is not a really patient person but he has a good heart, don't listen to them." Avril nodded and turned to go but the janitor stopped her, "Miss.  Avril?" She looked at him, "Yes?" He gave her a sweet smile, "Thank you and all the best."

"Sure!" She returned his smile and walks to her interview.

Avril finishes and looks at Aiden, she then proceeded, "Do you really accept people with high status? 'Cause if you do, I'll gladly take the U-turn." She said with no hesitation. Aiden chuckles and replied her with his cold dark eyes with blue flecks, "If I did so, do you think even those two would have stayed her?" Avril looks at his with confusedness, she tilted his head and made him clear, "Status is nothing to me, and I like the way you think, So you are employed."

"Huh!?" Avril was stunned-shocked, "Won't you read my resume?" She asked him as it was one the most important paper, he answered with another question, "Do you think it's necessary if I already recruit you?" Avril shakes her head and then bow, "Thank you, Sir." She  thanked him, she smiled at him. He got up and turned his back to her as he looked out of the large window, "Take the file on my table, I want you to look at it and find what can be improve. It's an important project. Don't mess it." Avril took the file from the table, "Go to Melissa and tell her to show you where you will be working."

Avril nodded and turns her back to Aiden, "Don't think that I will make it easy for you, I still haven't forgiven your attitude." His statement made Avril stopped in her tracks as she thought, 'It was too big of dream for this bastard to let me off the hook as simply as it is.' Avril smiles, then replied with determination, "You don't need to make it easy, but I'll still overcome the obstacles you will place in my way." Avril made her way out and Aiden smirks to as himself, he then turned and touched a button on the his phone, and the speakers in every floors resonated with his voice, "I want Mr. Seng in my office now." He called for the Janitor in a cold and stern voice.

Aiden sits down on his chair and stares at the door where Avril came and disappear, he still have his smirks on his face as he thinks, 'Looks like things will start getting interesting.'
